In this BeerTalk episode, we head to Belgium — to Leuven, one of the country's true beer hotspots — and step into a place that instantly sticks in your memory: Bart Delvaux's taproom brewery in Kessel-Lo, where beer culture meets bike culture in the most Belgian way possible. Bart shares how it all started with homebrewing in a basement, then took a surprising turn during a work relocation to Chicago — and a bicycle crash that (ironically) led him straight into the world of American taprooms. What began as a setback became the spark for a new life: returning to Belgium, building a brewery, and creating a space where locals and visitors can drink fresh beer on draft, right next to the kettles. We talk about Bart's crossover brewing philosophy — from an easy-drinking cream ale and a smooth, low-ABV tripel, to a bold West Coast IPA, plus monthly specials that range from refreshing sour gose to stouts with chili, tonka beans, and other twists. Bart explains why they don't bottle, how they keep quality and freshness in their own hands, and why the taproom experience matters just as much as the beer itself. One highlight: Bart's obsession with creating beers that surprise you — like a white stout that looks like a pilsner but drinks like a stout, built through careful ingredient testing (and a lot of patience). And yes, we also get into hop water, food collaborations (tacos + jalapeño gose!), and the warm, supportive way Leuven's brewers work together...

Going back to work after having a baby isn't just about finding childcare or picking out comfortable outfits in your new postpartum body. It's an emotional, physical, and often overwhelming transition that touches everything from your identity and energy levels to your legal rights and workplace support. In episode 179 of Chick Chat, we talked with Daphne Delvaux, also known as The Mamattorney, about how to co-plan your maternity leave so your return to work feels smoother and less stressful. If you haven't listened to that one yet, definitely go check it out! In today's episode (part two of our conversation), we're diving into what happens after baby: how to navigate the return-to-work phase with confidence and legal protection. Daphne shares what every mom should know before reentering the workplace and how to advocate for yourself if the support just isn't there. Who Is Daphne Delvaux? If you missed part one, Daphne Delvaux is a trial attorney, legal expert, and founder of The Mamattorney, a platform dedicated to educating mothers about their legal rights in the workplace, especially during pregnancy, postpartum, and maternity leave. Daphne's work has helped thousands of women feel more empowered and informed about their options for taking leave, protecting their jobs, and advocating for their families and futures. As a mom herself, she deeply understands the real-life challenges working parents face. What We Talked About This episode is all about the next chapter. What happens when you've had your baby, your leave is ending, and it's time to return to work? Daphne covers each and shares legal protections, emotional prep tips, and powerful mindset shifts to help moms navigate this transition with more ease and less guilt. Here are a few highlights from our conversation: How to prepare emotionally for going back to work Leaving your baby for the first time can be heartbreaking. Daphne shares ways to prepare mentally and emotionally so you're not caught off guard and so you can create space for your own healing, too. The biggest challenges new parents face and how to overcome them From lack of flexibility to outdated expectations, the return to work can be filled with pressure. Daphne talks through practical ways to set boundaries, ask for support, and reset your expectations of yourself. Your legal rights during the return-to-work transition Did you know you're entitled to certain accommodations for pumping? Daphne outlines the federal protections you have, including the PUMP Act, so you know exactly what to expect—and demand—from your workplace. What to do if you face discrimination or lack of support Unfortunately, not every workplace gets it. If you're met with resistance, Daphne explains the steps to take—from documenting everything to filing a complaint—and why it's important to advocate not just for yourself, but for other moms, too. The most overlooked part of preparing for maternity leave and return Most moms focus on the time off, but forget to plan for the return. Daphne shares the #1 thing moms forget to do (and how it can change everything). One proactive step you can take today Daphne closes with one action step that any woman can take right now to ensure a smoother, more empowered transition back to work. Final Thoughts Returning to work after having a baby is hard. But with the right tools, the right mindset, and the right knowledge of your rights, it doesn't have to break you. Daphne Delvaux's work is a powerful reminder that you're not just a working mom, you're a protected, empowered parent who deserves support. Whether you're navigating legal concerns, emotional struggles, or both, this episode will help you return to work on your terms with your confidence and boundaries intact. We're diving headfirst into the chaos that is parental leave in the United States — and debunking the absurd notion that being a mom somehow makes you any less dedicated or productive at work. Here today to help us navigate the murky waters of parental leave is Daphne Delvaux, Esq, also known as The Mamattorney — a legal badass who's made it her mission to fight pregnancy and postpartum discrimination and help women understand their rights at work. She's the founder of Delvaux Law, the only firm in the country dedicated exclusively to women's rights in the workplace. In this episode, Daphne breaks down what the law actually says, what your employer hopes you don't know, and how to protect yourself — legally, financially, and emotionally — when you're expecting (or recovering, or parenting, or just trying to stay employed while having a uterus). We cover: What to do if your HR department can't (or won't) help How to prep for maternity leave without sacrificing your career Legal protections you already have but probably haven't been told about The gender double standard of parental expectations at work Why we need to stop treating parenthood like a liability Because here's the truth: being a parent isn't the problem. The systems that punish you for it are. And if we're going to ask women to work like men, then it's time men start parenting like women. Reageren? Mail dedag@nos.nl Presentatie en montage: Elisabeth Steinz Redactie: Anouk Kantelberg

I'm excited to welcome Daphne Delvaux, “The Mama Attorney,” to the show for today's episode. She's an award-winning trial attorney and the founder of Delvaux Law, the nation's first and only law firm devoted to women's rights at work. She created The Mama Attorney, a platform on a mission to educate mothers on their rights at work and teach them to advocate for their needs so they can protect their pregnancies. She helps women get more time with their kids, get more benefits, and ask for accommodations without sacrificing their career goals. Being raised by a single mom in Belgium gave Daphne a desire to advocate for and support mothers. She has been recognized as a leader of the women's rights movement by news outlets across the globe, including ABC News, Huffington Post, the NY Times, the Wall Street Journal, and more. She was awarded the Outstanding Trial Lawyer award for winning an equal pay trial, and she's the mother of two boys. Her passion for women's and mothers' rights led her to champion women in a myriad of ways outside her law practice, and she is the founder of Chamber of Mothers, a collective movement to focus America's priorities on mothers' rights. Daphne also created a membership to her organization, The Liberated Mother Society, which helps moms understand and assert their rights in the workplace, including extended maternity leave benefits, more flexibility, more breaks, and protections. Her membership also includes attorney-drafted and trusted scripts to use in email communication with management and HR departments, and her book is set to come out in 2025.  Show Highlights: Don't assume that HR is there to help you!
