Let's talk about updates on Iran, Trump, peace, War Powers, and capitol hill.…
The U.S. has lifted oil sanctions on Iran for the first time in decades, letting Tehran sell its oil openly at higher prices meant to push Iran to comply on its nuclear program, even as the two sides are already split over whether Iran agreed to let inspectors back in. President Trump heads to Pennsylvania today to talk up the economy and his promise that gas and grocery prices will fall now that the war is ending, but his approval is at record lows with even some Republicans unhappy over his handling of the economy. And a federal judge in Minnesota threw out grand jury subpoenas from the Trump administration, ruling they were used to harass and retaliate against state and local officials who wouldn't help carry out the president's immigration crackdown.Want more analysis of the most important news of the day, plus a little fun? You are not going to believe the jaw-dropping concessions being made in this newly leaked 14-point U.S.-Iran Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)!
Donald Trump has signed a 14-point agreement with Iran, trying to bring an end to a war he helped start. Satisfied his work is done in the Middle East, Trump now wants to move onto peace in Ukraine. But is it that easy? Jenna Amatulli speaks to the Guardian's Andrew Roth about the chances this peace deal will succeed, and why Trump is turning his attention back to Ukraine
President Trump and Iran's president have signed an initial agreement to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, but Israel was left out of the negotiations and Trump is openly criticizing its continued attacks in Lebanon.President Trump is once again putting Senate Republicans in a tough spot, he's holding back his pick for Director of National Intelligence until his demands are met, leaving his temporary pick Bill Pulte to lead the nation's intelligence agencies, with Trump threatening to block a key spy tool until he gets his way.And a new NPR/PBS News/ Marist poll finds Americans still aren't happy with the economy or with President Trump, his approval numbers at the lowest they've been, even dropping among groups that helped put him in office.Want more analysis of the most important news of the day, plus a little fun?
Rachel Maddow lists the goals Donald Trump set for the war he started with Iran, from regime change to obliterating Iran's nuclear capacity, none of which have been met as Trump announces an agreement that reportedly will at least re-open the Strait of Hormuz, though apparently with some fees attached. MS NOW's Ayman Mohyeldin joins to discuss. Rachel Maddow tells the story of the Gordie Howe International Bridge, which would be the biggest U.S. border crossing in Candana and one of the most important routes for trade in the entire world, except that Donald Trump refuses to open it. And it so happens that the family that owns a competing bridge gave a large amount of money to Trump's super PAC. And Marc Elias, founder of Democracy Docket, joins to discuss what American voters can do to protect the upcoming election from Donald Trump's interference. Want more of Rachel? US consumer prices jump as workers pay for American imperialism's war on Iran / Trump orders second day of new strikes on Iran, vowing to attack “very hard”
Uncertainty about whether Donald Trump's claims of progress in Iran talks have any credibility. The US President has called off today's planned strikes, despite earlier vowing to drop even bigger bombs. He now claims both sides have agreed to the final points of a deal – something Iran's not confirming. US Correspondent Richard Arnold told Heather du Plessis-Allan Trump is calling it a “transaction” as opposed to a deal, and no details, nor the time or place of signing, have been announced. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
There's scepticism about whether Donald Trump's talk of a breakthrough with Iran is genuine. The US President's calling off scheduled strikes hours after threatening to cause even more severe damage. He says the final points of a peace deal have been agreed by both sides. Iranian officials are yet to confirm and are instead pointing out previous contradictions in Trump's statements. Former US General Randy Manner told Heather du Plessis-Allan he just doesn't believe Trump. He says Trump's done this almost three dozen times over the past few months, so the President doesn't have much credibility left. Manner says Trump's well aware that Iran retains strategic power via the Strait of Hormuz – they can hold the entire world hostage at any time, due to the nuclear threat. In this episode of The Fearless Mindset Podcast, host Mark Ledlow is joined by Christopher Stitt, an East Coast State Department security professional focused on threat and risk assessments, recent MBA graduate, and first-time author of the leadership book "Scaling Pyramids," discussing the wins, losses, and mindset of serial entrepreneurship and networking. They highlight Mark's approach to visibility and branding through a Dallas chauffeur driving course filmed like a documentary to create social clips, market to clients and agents, and differentiate executive protection with a more corporate style, emphasizing not letting others derail a clear vision. The conversation also covers capturing industry mixers and forums for ongoing educational content, managing introversion and burnout at events (including a recurring fully clothed “bathtub” photo-op), technology and AI adoption with client privacy concerns, referral-based consulting, and speculation about heightened U.S.-Iran tensions, protests, and election/voting-system concerns.Learn about all this and more in this episode of The Fearless Mindset Podcast.KEY TAKEAWAYSInnovate boldly, even when your team pushes back. Mark invested in a film crew for his chauffeur training course despite internal resistance — the result was cinematic-quality content for branding and marketing.Let others tell your story. Rather than self-promoting, Mark had the agents in the course become the stars of the documentary, which is more authentic and compelling.Cross-pollination is a marketing strategy. Giving agents content (with your logo) for their own LinkedIn profiles builds mutual brand amplification.Referrals and relationships drive enterprise security consulting — not just name recognition. Smaller firms can compete on quality at a fraction of the price.AI is a tool, not a shortcut for sensitive data. Chris emphasizes using AI responsibly, especially when handling client information and privacy concerns.Introverts can thrive in high-visibility roles by managing energy intentionally — finding small groups within large crowds, stepping away briefly to reset.Geopolitical risk is real and escalating. The US military buildup near Iran (described as the largest since Desert Storm) signals a potential inflection point for global security professionals to monitor.Democratic systems are the safeguard. Regardless of political views, elections every four years remain the legitimate mechanism for change.QUOTES"Do not let people steer you from your vision.
Chris Cuomo lays out the top five ways Donald Trump is screwing the MAGA movement that put him in office — the fundamental failures that will define the midterms, not the daily noise. Chris walks through the death of America First, a war in Iran Trump promised he'd never start, the spending and debt that has betrayed every conservative principle, a healthcare crisis Trump is ignoring, and the way he has actively coarsened American politics itself. Cuomo argues that MAGA voters are being abandoned in real time by the man they trusted most — and that the populist demand that fueled MAGA in the first place is going to be looking for someone honest enough to meet it. Plus the bonuses Cuomo couldn't fit in the five: why Tucker Carlson is already distancing himself from Trump, what the Epstein files actually say about broken promises, and why the next iteration of the Republican Party may pretend Trump was never their guy. In this bonus episode of Up First, we're sharing the latest episode of NPR's Newsmakers, featuring Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorganChase, the nation's largest bank. JPMorgan has a stake in almost everything. But unlike many CEOs, Dimon says it's his job to speak out on many things. This week, Dimon released his annual letter to shareholders — a document that comments on banking issues and also assesses risks to the economy, from inflation to the war in Iran. The letter asserts his company is ready for anything — noting, among other things, that it has profited during economic booms and also during recessions. In this episode of NPR's Newsmakers, Dimon tells host Steve Inskeep he didn't worry much about the way President Trump's contradictory statements tend to send financial markets sliding and soaring again, saying, “I have to deal with the world I got.” NPR's Newsmakers is where you'll find NPR's biggest interviews. 1. High-Stakes Military Rescue Operation President Trump describes the extraordinary U.S. military rescue of two American airmen shot down inside Iranian territory during Operation Epic Fury. The mission involved dozens of aircraft, elite special forces, CIA-led deception tactics, and heavy enemy fire. Despite extreme risk, both airmen were successfully extracted, reinforcing the administration’s stance of “leave no American behind.” 2. Emphasis on U.S. Military Superiority Trump repeatedly highlights the unmatched power, technology, and capability of the U.S. military. He frames the operation as historic, near-impossible, and only achievable by U.S. forces. The rescue is used as proof that “peace through strength” is not rhetoric but a functioning doctrine. 3. Direct Ultimatum to Iran Trump issues a sharp warning that Iran has 24–48 hours to comply with U.S. demands. Demands include halting nuclear ambitions and reopening strategic shipping routes like the Strait of Hormuz. He states Iran could be “taken out in one night” if it refuses, while still claiming preference for avoiding war. 4. Claim of Internal Iranian Pressure The President asserts U.S. intelligence indicates internal dissatisfaction within Iran. He suggests civilians are watching closely and may desire change, implying leverage beyond military force. 5. The Critical Leak During the Mission A central focus of the presser is Trump’s accusation that classified information was leaked to the media mid-operation. The leak revealed the existence of a second downed pilot, which had been intentionally kept secret for his survival. 6. Consequences of the Leak Trump argues the leak: Alerted Iranian forces and civilians Led to a reward being offered for capturing the pilot Made the rescue far more dangerous for both the stranded airman and U.S. forces He labels the leaker “sick” and claims the leak endangered lives. 7. Threat of Legal Action Against Media Trump states the administration will aggressively pursue the leaker. He warns the media outlet involved may be compelled to reveal its source or face jail time, citing national security. Please Hit Subscribe to this podcast Right Now. 1. Trump’s National Address on Iran Trump reiterates that preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons has been his position since 2015 and frames current military action as the fulfillment of long‑standing commitments. The address emphasizes: Short‑term, intense military action (“weeks, not months or years”). Severe degradation of Iran’s military capabilities (navy destroyed, air force crippled, missile and drone capacity reduced). Justification for action based on Iran’s rapid missile production, terrorism sponsorship, and threats to the U.S. and allies. The speakers argue that Iran is currently weaker than ever and that acting now avoids greater future casualties. 2. Republican Debate and Public Support There is NO “civil war” among Republicans over Iran, citing polling they claim shows overwhelming GOP support. Critics—especially conservative podcasters opposing intervention—are labeled as marginal and unrepresentative. Trump is framed as consistent rather than opportunistic in his Iran policy. 3. Pam Bondi’s Departure as Attorney General Pam Bondi’s removal as Attorney General is presented as a routine cabinet change rather than a scandal. She is praised for: Crime reduction Gang and cartel enforcement Terrorism prosecutions Lower murder and overdose rates The discussion emphasizes the difficulty of leading DOJ and frames her tenure as honorable and successful. Todd Blanche is named acting Attorney General, with Lee Zeldin mentioned as a possible permanent successor. 4. Department of Justice Leadership Context The DOJ is uniquely challenging due to entrenched bureaucracy (“deep state”). Past Attorneys General argue that conflict and burnout are common in the role. Ted Cruz reflects personally on why he chose to remain in the Senate rather than pursue the AG position. 5. ActBlue Investigation and Legal Risk The most consequential domestic political issue discussed is a New York Times report on ActBlue. According to the transcript: ActBlue may have misled Congress about how it vetted donations for foreign money. Internal legal memos warn of potential criminal liability, including “knowing and willful” violations. Several senior ActBlue officials reportedly resigned following the revelation. A DOJ investigation could: Shut down ActBlue entirely Severely weaken Democratic fundraising before midterm elections ActBlue’s central role in Democratic campaigns and the scale of money involved (billions of dollars) is noted Please Hit Subscribe to this podcast Right Now.
