Lean Year is Virginia-based singer Emilie Rex and filmmaker/musician Rick Alverson, along with Erik Hall, who lives in rural Michigan, where he records and co-produces the band's records with Alverson. The band's latest, Sides, is heavy on dreamlike and beautiful melodies, yet the material is also meditation on grief and the processing of personal tragedy. Using mellotron, keyboards of many colors, guitar, and a tapestry of synth pads of sampled woodwinds, together with Rex's distinctive voice, the music is “a balancing act between pathos and pop” (Bandcamp), which feels haunted and cinematic, while celebrating memories and embracing calm amidst the sorrow. Lean Year plays in-studio.  Set list: "Nitetime", "Marriage of Heaven and Hell", "Trouble with Being Warm" Watch "Nitetime": Watch "Marriage of Heaven and Hell": Watch "Trouble with Being Warm":

We are one week away from the start of the NHL season! "All or Nothing", the Toronto Maple Leafs docuseries, is out and Nick has strong reasons to believe that Paul MacLean is the hero we all need. Robin Lehner dropped news this week of rumored drug treatment around the league. Everyone from Alain Vigneault to Gary Bettman had something to say. Is it done yet? Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes signed extensions with the Vancouver Canucks. Were they team or player friendly? It's prime to preview our most difficult division: The Metro! Can the Hurricanes "defend" the title of best team in the division? Will the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals start their climb down the mountain? Is Dougie Hamilton enough for the New Jersey Devils to challenge for a playoff spot? Will the new regime and Gerard Gallant in New York help or hurt the Rangers?
