3. Headline: The Yellow Creek Massacre and the Chaos of Colonial Tribalism Guest Author: Robert G. ParkinsonThis segment details the 1774 massacre at Yellow Creek, where eight Mingo people, including Logan's brother and sister, were murdered by settlers. Parkinson argues that colonial settlers from Pennsylvania and Virginia acted just as "tribal" as the native groups they fought. Following a British withdrawal from Fort Pitt, a power vacuum led to violent jurisdictional disputes. Despite Logan's subsequent claims, the actual perpetrators were a group of settlers that did not include Michael Cresup, who was miles away at the time, though he had previously encouraged frontier violence. 31803
1. Headline: The Origins of Logan's Lament and Frontier Misidentification Guest Author: Robert G. ParkinsonProfessor Robert G. Parkinson introduces his book, Heart of American Darkness, focusing on the 1775 publication of Logan's Lament. This famous document recorded the reflections of the Mingo chief Logan regarding the 1774 murder of his family. Logan famously blamed the atrocity on Colonel Cresup, a misidentification that persisted for centuries in American lore. Parkinson establishes the complex background of the Ohio River frontier, where land speculation and moving colonial borders created a "simmering civil war" between Maryland and Pennsylvania, involving the patriarchs Thomas Cresup and the diplomat Shikalami. 11750

Daniel Mingo shares his transformative journey from a troubled childhood marked by sexual abuse and confusion about his identity to finding healing and purpose through faith. As he candidly discusses the challenges of overcoming same-sex attraction and addiction, Daniel reveals the pivotal role of honest communication, spiritual discipline, and community support in his recovery. His story challenges the "born gay" narrative, offering a powerful testament to the possibility of change and redemption. His interview is a must-watch for anyone interested in understanding the complexities of identity, faith, and personal transformation. Daniel became a born-again Christian at age 17, yet for nearly 30 years secretly involved himself in homosexual activity through anonymous encounters. He is now the Founder and Ministry Director of Abba's Delight, Inc. based in Louisville, KY. Abba's Delight is a Christian ministry which assists born-again believers and families and friends of those who are gay-identified, resolve the conflict of the effects of homosexuality on their lives. Pastors and church staff receive assistance as well in ministering to those in their congregations whose lives have been impacted by homosexuality.
Who is Dylan Mingo? To better answer that question, the Coast to Coast show welcomes someone who knows him well: Terrence "Munch" Williams, the executive director of Mingo's travel program, ProScholars Athletics. Sherrell McMillan and Joey Powell talk with Williams to discuss his new book, "Here Are the Answers: A Roadmap for Navigating Success in the Business of Youth Basketball," and break down the business, mentorship, and infrastructure behind elite grassroots basketball. Through that lens, they examine how those principles shaped Dylan Mingo and what UNC fans should understand about the ecosystem that prepared him for Chapel Hill. This conversation goes beyond rankings and highlights to explore the structure, decision-making, and character development that often dovetail with long-term success at Carolina. No Sam today. Dusty shirt is maize; get it before we play MSU again. Things Discussed: Men's & Women's Basketball win at Breslin: 40 basketball wins. Jeremy Fears's instant karma for his dirty play. Impossible not to see all the extra stuff that guy does when you rewatch the games: yankbacks, pulldowns, more trips. Ira counted 80 yards in penalties and a targeting. MSU game: Brilliant defensive first half, all MSU could do consistently was get to the free throw line. Calling out their dirty play goes right to their heart because it's the best thing they can do. Going 2-3 zone out of halftime made good tactical sense but ball betrayed them a bit, good resilience to fight back. More tactics: Michigan was getting it down to Mara but he's not big enough on the block to make that. McKenney love: He's played his way to Michigan's best two—Burnett and Gayle are losing minutes to him. Anticipates screens, is big, and his midrange pullups are a good floor for possessions that help you against an elite defense. Really important for what this team needs to be going forward. Who's M's best draft pick? We'd take Morez. Who's the best five? Depends on opponent and context. Might not play Mara vs a 5-out team, can go three bigs against an MSU-like opponent. Who's the best team in the Big Ten? Illinois. They go to Breslin and host Michigan but the rest of their schedule are the mids Michigan already played, they got the best player in the league from the composite 250s in Wagler—worst scouting miss in history? Hope Underwood calls out MSU's assist lies so Wagler gets his laurels for his real assists. Michigan next year? Might only have to replace Yaxel (McKenney and Cason take Gayle and Burnett minutes), can go to the portal for a difference-maker and run it back. Penn State preview: They have Mingo back but Yuric played out of his mind last time and think he's not coming back from a 103-degree fever on Saturday to play like that again. Have a bunch of questionable guys tonight. Think University Park atmosphere is similar to Saline 7th Grade Middle School game. WEAR PINK (I can't; I don't have any). What's the reverse Dusty May for Izzo? Sing he's a jolly good fellow, or bring out the newspapers. Hockey: MSU series could be for the conference since Wisconsin is wilting and Penn State just lost McKenna to a bar fight. Michigan needs to get more than a split because MSU has Minnesota, Notre Dame, and Ohio State left, and Michigan still has to play the other contenders. Put me down for this: Mick Cronin is going to complain about Michigan buying players when he comes to Ann Arbor. Craig says he'll dog his own players.

By Kyle Valentine: "Mingo is slowly working his way back to 100 percent, and his first game during this year's Hoophall is just the beginning. During his game against Arizona Compass Prep Saturday afternoon, he saw less playing time than he is used to and had an unusual stat line of three points, one assist and five rebounds in a 59-58 loss. He is still trying to get a feel for the game, especially with a new squad."

THE ORIGINS OF A FRONTIER FEUD AND LOGAN'S LAMENT Colleague Professor Robert G. Parkinson. In February 1775, the Pennsylvania Journal published a famous document known as Logan's Lament. This speech, delivered by the Mingo leader James Logan Shikellamy, accuses Colonel Cresap of the cold-blooded murder of his family relations. However, this accusation contained significant errors: Logan misidentified the killer and confused the Cresap father and son. The conflict highlights the complex relationships between the colonials of Virginia and Pennsylvania and indigenous tribes like the Iroquois and Shawnee. The narrative introduces two key families—the Cresaps and the Shikellamys—whose intertwined histories defined the violent confusion of the early American frontier. NUMBER 1
LOGAN'S LAMENT AND THE CASE OF MISTAKEN IDENTITY Colleague Robert G. Parkinson. Host John Batchelor introduces Professor Robert G. Parkinson and his book, Heart of American Darkness, which investigates the complex relationship between colonials and Native Americans in 1775. The discussion focuses on a famous document known as "Logan's Lament," published in the Pennsylvania Journal, in which a Mingo leader named Loganblames a "Colonel Cresap" for the cold-blooded murder of his family. Parkinson clarifies that this was a case of mistaken identity; Logan confused the father, Thomas Cresap, with the son, Michael, though neither was the actual killer. NUMBER 1
THE TRAGIC FATE OF LOGAN AND JEFFERSON'S DISCOVERY Colleague Robert G. Parkinson. The narrative reveals the tragic fate of the Mingo leader, Logan. In 1794, a surveyor encounters a Native American who admits to killing his uncle, Logan, near Lake Erie around 1780. The nephew explains that Logan had become too powerful and unpredictable a figure during the Revolutionary War, necessitating his silence. The discussion then moves to Thomas Jefferson, who discovers "Logan's Lament" while writing Notes on the State of Virginia, intending to use the speech to demonstrate Indigenous intellect and refute European claims of American degeneracy, regardless of the text's factual errors. Post-Gazette Pitt insider Stephen Thompson previews the Panthers' upcoming matchup with cross-state rival Penn State. What are the keys to success for Jeff Capel's team? Can they keep up with Penn State's top recruit, Kayden Mingo? Will the Nittany Lions' strong shooting challenge Pitt's lackluster perimeter defense? And can the Panthers stay out of foul trouble? Stephen also makes the case for freshman Kieran Mullen to get more minutes in the Pitt frontcourt. Is there an opportunity in front of him? And how can his screening and potential rebounding and rim protection help the Panthers? Stephen tackles those topics and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. . Logan's Lament and the Mingo/Cresap Frontier Conflict Professor Robert G. Parkinson, Heart of American Darkness: Bewilderment and Horror on the Early Frontier Professor Robert G. Parkinson's book Heart of American Darkness focuses on Logan's Lament, a famous 1775 document where Mingo chief Logan laments the 1774 murder of his family by "Colonel Cresap." Parkinson notes this is a misidentification; the actual killer was not a Cresap, though the Cresap family were powerful land speculators. Logan's father, Shikellamy, was an Oneida diplomat who partnered with James Logan, William Penn's secretary, establishing the origin of the Logan name. The frontier was characterized by shifting colonial borders (e.g., Maryland/Pennsylvania disputes) and escalating conflict with indigenous people. 1954
3. Tribal Politics and the Yellow Creek Massacre Professor Robert G. Parkinson, Heart of American Darkness: Bewilderment and Horror on the Early Frontier This section details the Yellow Creek Massacre. The frontier conflicts are described as tribal, involving native groups and colonial groups (Virginians, Pennsylvanians) battling over land, especially after the British left Fort Pitt. The massacre happened on April 30, 1774, at Baker's Bottom, targeting a band of Mingo natives. Logan's family, including his brother, sister, and mother, attempted diplomacy at a tavern but were ambushed and murdered by a group of men, including Daniel Greathouse, though none were named Cresap. Michael Cresap, later blamed in Logan's Lament, was absent. The violence was brutal; Logan's sister was killed after pleading for her infant son's life.
