Le domaine national de Saint-Cloud, aux portes de Paris, ses charmants jardins animés de fontaines et sculptures et surtout son festival de musique, Rock en Seine, réputé pour ses têtes d'affiche. Pour sa 20ᵉ édition, le festival réitère sa formule éclectique de haut niveau, rassemblant une centaine d'artistes et groupes de tous styles. Parmi eux : Vox Low. Le groupe parisien revient en force sur le devant de la scène pour défendre son deuxième album, Keep on Falling. Vox Low, c'est un groupe français héritier de la new wave, ce mouvement musical né à la fin des années 1970 en Angleterre et qui définissait la nouvelle vague de groupes mélangeant plusieurs styles. Benoît Raymond, l'un des fondateurs de la formation parisienne, est bassiste et technicien chargé des tranches d'information à RFI.  Une musique électronique à l'esprit punk faite pour danserLe quatuor de rockeurs mêle habilement musique électronique et esprit punk pour une musique à la fois rétro et moderne, faite pour danser, même si les textes écrits par le chanteur du groupe, Jean-Christophe Couderc, sont souvent sombres.Il projette avec brio dans le futur la new wave, plus de 40 ans après son apparition. Une chose est certaine, les morceaux électro-rock dansants, infusés de synthétiseurs analogiques uniques, gagnent en pourvoir magnétique dans leur nouvel album. On avait d'abord repéré les deux têtes pensantes de Vox Low, Benoît Raymond et Jean-Christophe Couderc, au sein du projet Think Twice en 2015, un groupe rock soutenu par le célèbre DJ Laurent Garnier et son label F Communications. Ils ont eu raison de persister. Car Vox Low rencontre depuis quelques années un joli succès partout en Europe grâce à une poignée de maxis (EP) post-punk à soudure techno, qui donnent le tournis.  Mais c'est surtout en concert qu'on aime leur mix savant de new wave, de krautrock et d'électro. Vox Low est en concert à Rock en Seine, le 24 août 2024. Welcome to DRR Podcast 099, this week we welcome Rennie Foster, Canadian House & Techno Wizard based in Vancouver. Rennie Foster has been a well-respected figure in the Canadian music and art community for over two decades. He influenced many as an early pioneer of the Hip-Hop / B-Boy movement, and later the House Music and Techno / Rave scene, participating in the first events in Western Canada during the birth of these now common urban subcultures. He is also very well known within the niche of graffiti art for his early work, having been archived in several published books. Rennie relocated to Tokyo Japan in 2004 and became an important part of the Japanese club scene, playing all over Japan in venues such as Womb, ageHa, and Yellow, maintaining DJ residencies in Tokyo and Kyoto at the Metro club and at the Nagisa Music Festival in Tokyo and Osaka. Rennie was consistently ranked in the top 50 DJs in Japan by LOUD Magazine until re-locating back to Canada in 2011. Rennie is currently a resident DJ at Western Canada's top after-hours club, Gorg-O-Mishin Vancouver, BC, regularly traveling to play as a guest at underground venues across Canada, Detroit, New York,and Paris and has played festivals such as Shambhala and Bass Coast among others. Rennie Foster has released music with Jack White's Third Man Label, classic dance music labels including Transmat, F-Communications, Synewave, Teknotika, Subject Detroit, and is widely recognized for his underground anthem Devil's Water on Rebirth Records. Rennie has remixed, or been remixed by, some of the top names in dance music such as Juan Atkins, James Zabiela and Swayzak. He has released many singles, EPs, and four full length albums. So how did you meet the bass? A: When I started buying records it was more or less Techno. One of my first records was Carl Cox with ‘The End Of The Cliché’ in 1995. Mayday and Love Parade were the biggest events at that time and I was at my first Love Parade in the age of 14. Then I started buying more experimental music by Moodyman, Dr. Rockit, Etienne De Crécy and names like that. When I started DJing latin and vocal house was big. it was all about massive vocals (almost screaming) on fast organic beats produced by acts such as Kings Of Tomorrow, Jon Cutler, Ian Pooley and Masters At Work to name a few. I really liked that style of music end of the 90’s but I am not producing Latin House today, you are completely right - there is still soul in my music. My set for ‘How I Met The Bass’ is not about Latin House. It starts with a smooth soul groover by Georg Levin that I loved to play a lot when I started DJing in bars in Hamburg. Sonar Kollektiv was the label where the record came out and it was quite famous at that time and even Dixon produced music with Georg Levin on Sonar Kollektiv. When you listen to the last quarter of my set you can hear some influences in my tracks I recently put out for sure. Steve Bug, Josh Wink and the music that got released on Poker Flat, Dessous, F Communications and Ovum was my thing and most of the records they put out today are still catching me. Q: You´re releasing your music on big labels such as Suara, Green, Audiomatique, Einmusika, Soul De Anima. Any more label goals to reach? A: There are always new goals to reach - it never stops but I keep them as a secret for today and let you know when they come true Q: Which future projects are on the way? A: I have signed a follow up EP with the Lazarusman to Dave Seaman’s Selador Records and another EP together with Saccao to Lost On You records which is a label that donates all the money from the sales to children in Africa and so do I. Olivier Mateu is Rodriguez Jr., an accomplished and forward-thinking electronic producer well known for weaving together deep techno, melodic accents and contemplative synth lines. The French artist started his career as one half of The Youngsters releasing two albums no Laurent Garnier’s F-Communications label. And, as Rodriguez Jr. Olivier Mateu has received critical acclaim for his music born from dusty analog synths in his studio that refuses to be pigeon-holed. Olivier opens the lid on his studio workflow, discussing the synths that form the backbone of his sound, in particular the Moog Voyager. He also recreates the synth sounds using the Voyager from the title track of his recent EP, Chain Reaction.

Avenue Red Podcast 029 is an exclusive mix by Jori Hulkkonen, recorded live at a recent event called "My House Is Your House" at a venue called Portti, playing a vinyl-only set at a rare appearance in his hometown of Turku in Finland. Originally hailing from the rather remote Northern town of Kemi in the Lapland region (a place from which The Northern Lights can be seen on 100 days per year), Jori has consistently been a truly inspired innovator throughout a productive music career spanning over two decades, rendering a rich and eclectic discography of releases including a dozen full studio albums, dozens of singles and remix projects counting into the 200's. A mainstay artist on Eric Morand & Laurent Garnier's (sadly now defunct) F Communications label, Jori's musical output has bled into many different genres and styles, mostly ranging from House to Techno and Electro to Ambient. He has done some conceptual artistic work too, having assembled the Acid Symphony Orchestra in 2007 - an experimental, avant-garde, 11-man techno ensemble featuring ten Roland TB-303's - performing a raw score all written, conducted and mixed by Jori. Moving on from the last fine installment of the Avenue Red Podcast by Exos in Reykjavik, Iceland, we travel to another capital city in the opposite corner of Europe for this new addition. For number 017, we have a very interesting mixture of Detroit-tinged deep house records from a DJ from Bucharest, Romania who goes by the name of Profet. We first noticed Profet from a recent promo mix he put out for his Bucharest-based agency Sonus Discis, and we know quality when we hear it. With a confident swagger through distinctly jazzy and techy swathes of house music with a rich musicality, Profet has a really unique way of smoothly shifting through the gears and gets a really good eclectic vibe going in his sets. This mix for Avenue Red is no exception. He plays regularly at prolific gigs in the Romanian capital, most notably for the Chameleon parties for which he is a resident at the prestigious Control club. He has played alongside some world-renowned underground DJ's including: Even Tuell; Scott Grooves; Marcellus Pittman; Hakim Murphy; John Heckle and FUNKINEVEN to name a few. Also worth noting - Profet along with his friend and Chameleon co-resident Luger have busily amalgamated a hardware-only setup and are staring down the barrels of production work too, so this is yet another staple in the burgeoning Romanian music scene to look out for! Our first release of 2014 at Just Be and its from Estimulo (EstimuloShow, Mixomat Recordings) He brings us a tasty pitched back mix with classic house flavors, deep grooves and disco/electro influences with this superb mix. This is the the sort of mix you could just sit and listen to over and over again with a nice relaxed tempo and vibe at the start that builds into more rawer house sounds, its a really good balanced musical journey and shows what a great Dj/selector Estimulo is. Estimulo caught the music bug in the age of 4, when black and dance groups like Chic appealed to him thru the airwaves of Berlin city. Quickly he started recording music from the radio and cutting his own radio shows and mixes and a tape recorder and reel to reel. Later on in 1983 his grandma gave him what was to become his first vinyl record by legendary hip hop group Whodini. Disco, Soul and Electro Funk were the main influences until in 1988 he first heard a programme called "The Big Beat" that aired on friday night and was pumping all the hot import shit, from HINRG to early house music. Apart from radio, a random find a random find of Chicago House artist Mr Fingers seminal "Ammnesia" album in the bargain bin of some music store in 1989 started his voyage into classic house and techno, mainly from the USA. In 1991 the techno scene exploded in Berlin and the sound was getting harder and harder. Though he was interested in the scene and went to many of the parties, he was naturally drawn towards a deeper and more soulful side of things. He set up his own little pirate station and broadcasted all kinds of electronic beats to his neighborhood. Aside from studying Computer Engineering he was taking first steps into production with the famous Fasttracker software on the Amiga and PC. Putting mixes online followed and in 2001 the mixomat.de page was launched to feature his mixes, followed by the label Mixomat Recordings which released the music of Marco Nega, Immer.Chic, Igor O. Vlasov, Rezkar and Serendipity, just to name a few. In 2007 he moved back to his passion for radio and founded the weekly internet radio show called "EstimuloShow". EstimuloShow has grown into a world-wide collective featuring such presenters as Malcolm Moore (Altered Moods), Truly-Madly, Mike Bishop, Chicagodeep & Taelue and Mick Welch (Elektrosouls Recordings) alongside Estimulo & Makarov. What is more, EstimuloShow has featured guest DJ performances by artists such as Chicago Skyway (Eargasmic, Uzuri), Specter (Tetrode Music, Downbeat), Steven Tang (Emphasis), Simoncino (Mathematics, HotMix, No More Hits). In the past years Estimulo has played venues such as ://about blank, Horst, Paloma Bar, Südblock, Chez Jacki (ex-Maria am Ostbahnhof), Champagneria, Freudenzimmer and Diller as a DJ. The Futura event organisation agency was launched in 2008, to host events in ://about blank, Horst as well as Chez Jacki and M12, and to bring artists like Lowtec (Workshop, USM), Even Tuell (Airbag Craftworks), Keith Worthy (Aesthetic Audio), Gerd Janson (Running Back), I-F (Intergalactic FM, Viewlexx), Arne Weinberg (AW-Recordings, Diametric), Fabrice Lig (R&S, F Communications, Versatile), Rune Lindbaek (Noid, Smalltown Supersound), Simoncino (Mathematics, HotMix, OTP), Kuba Sojka (Mathematics), Malcolm Moore (Altered Moods), Snuff Crew (Snuff Trax, Gigolo, Skylax, Nature) and Hardrock Striker (Skylax) to Berlin on their club nights.
