A Second Tribute to Candid Royalle, with Jamye Waxman   As sex therapists and longtime friends of Candida Royalle (actual name Candice Vadala), Jamye and Diana appreciate Candice's thirst for self-knowledge. She wrote in 2013, “Still trying to unlock the key to myself.” She also wrote, “I will not let my past ruin my future.”  For decades Candice struggled to view herself through her own eyes, rather than through the eyes of some guy.   Jamye Waxman (www.waxmansextherapy.com) spoke in response to Dr. Diana's questions: What was Candice to you? and What would you like to thank her for? As the “Godmother of Feminist Porn,” Candice—a real pioneer— was an inspiration for Jamye; also, a real friend and mentor. Jamye confesses that Candice believed in her before she could believe in herself! Diana and Jamye agreed that their late friend allowed others to shine! Jamye, for example, produced “Under the Covers” while Candice directed (the very last movie before her death in 2015).   Our discussion pivoted to pornography. Candice was disappointed by the new generation of mainstream porn: “The adult-porn industry is becoming a trash heap of over-the-top extremities of the most violating acts … Young men being brought up on this latest crop of meaningless mechanical crap are learning some terrible things about sex and women.” She wrote that in her diary in 2003.   Jamye fears that for our offspring, that we are fostering a phone-based childhood instead of a play-based childhood.   Because of phones, kids often have easy access to porn. For example, choking a partner may be normalized. (See the interview with Dr. Debbie Herbenick.)  Jamye's concern is that things are being learned without being addressed. Candice foreshadowed that violence could become acceptable. It's easy enough to go down a rabbit hole: vanilla sex scenes lead to kinky sex acts or violent ones.   In the early morning of September 7, 2015, Candice died of ovarian cancer at her Long Island home. The night before Diana wrote to her, in part: “To think that your vibrant, creative, beautiful life is about to end is devastating. It's not fair. But your legacy is phenomenal! Through your movies, your book (How to Tell a Naked Man What to Do), and your media appearances, you have changed and improved many people's sex lives and relationships. And, when folks can experience less shame and more enthusiasm regarding their sexuality … wow! … what a blessing!”   Diana and Jamye are glad Candice lived. She was a real blessing!   BTW, Check out Jamye's column in PLAYGIRL. The one on attachment and relationships is compelling: https://playgirl.com/sex-talk/the-psychology-of-sex-lets-get-attached/ .

“Taking care of yourself after sexual assault Common feelings There is no right or wrong way to feel if you have been sexually assaulted. Everyone reacts differently, and a range of emotions are all natural responses to trauma. Some common reactions to sexual assault include: Fear or anxiety of • Who to trust • A similar event happening again • Being left alone • Breaking down or losing control • About what might have happened (especially if you can't remember everything) Anger at • What has happened • A lack of support or understanding from others Helplessness • Feeling a loss of control over life, or that the world is a dangerous place Sadness for • Being hurt, emotionally and physically Guilt or self-blame • Feeling somehow responsible • Regret for things done and not done Shame • About what has happened Detached • Everything feeling unreal or strange Physical sensations Physical sensations are often reactions to stress and can develop several months after the event. Some common feelings include: Feeling tense or irritable, uptight or panicky Heart racing, or chest feeling tight Dizzy or lightheaded Stomach churning and loss of appetite Difficulty sleeping or nightmares Poor memory and concentration Difficulty making decisions Feeling depressed or low in mood Change in sex drive. Common thoughts and reactions “I feel numb” You may just feel numb. The event may seem unreal, like a dream, something that hasn't really happened. Sometimes you might feel spaced out, or even disorientated – this can be the mind's way of trying to shut out the experience. “I have to keep busy” Being active may help you to cope. But, overactivity can be a problem if you overtire yourself or your behaviour feels out of control. “It feels like it's happening again” Sometimes people get ‘flashbacks' – vivid memories or momentswhen they feel as if the assault is happening again. This may come out of the blue or be triggered by a particular place, event, thought or feeling, or even a smell or noise. It's important to remember that these are the normal effects of an abnormal experience and the mind's attempts to process what happened. It doesn't mean you're going mad and although it can be frightening when it happens, it is not dangerous. “I feel jumpy or irritable” You may feel extra sensitive to noises, sudden movements or even feelings in your own body, or feel as if you are always ‘wound up' and can't sit still. “I don't want to see anyone” You may feel like being alone or staying away from places that remind you of the assault. You might stop going out or answering the telephone. It can help to get emotional support from others but this may be difficult if you have upsetting or complicated feelings about what has happened. However, being alone might also feel hard or frightening. “I just want to run away” You may feel like running away from it all. This may mean avoiding thinking and talking about what happened or using alcohol or drugs. Although this might make you feel better in the short-term, it might lead to more difficulties in the long-term. Everyone is different and you may experience some or all of these feelings at different times.” https://sarchelp.co.uk/support-guidance/taking-care-of-yourself-after-sexual-assault/. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/antonio-myers4/support

Over the last decade or so, many of the conversations about porn taking place in the popular media have shifted to the topics of ethical porn and feminist porn. But what does it really mean for porn to be ethical or feminist in nature? Does this imply that all mainstream porn is inherently unethical? Can we really think about the porn industry in these black-and-white, good vs. bad terms? Let's talk about it! My guest today is Paulita Pappel, a Spanish filmmaker and feminist pornographer. She is the founder of Lustery, a platform dedicated to the sex lives of real-life couples from around the world, as well as the co-director of HardWerk, a hardcore film studio creating cinematic and tailored gangbangs. She also co-organizes and curates the Pornfilmfestival Berlin. Paulita works as a producer, director, performer and intimacy coordinator, and is an advocate for a sex-positive, consent-based culture. Some of the topics we discuss on this episode include: What do the terms "ethical porn" and "feminist porn" mean? What are some specific actions directors can take to bring ethical and feminist values into filmmaking? What does it mean to be an ethical porn consumer? As a porn consumer, what should you be looking for in order to support ethical productions? How can we convince people to start paying for their porn? Be sure to check out more on Paulita's website, and follow her on Twitter and Instagram to stay connected. You can also read our review of Paulita's "How To Watch Porn" course here. "In addition to mainstream porn, I was exposed to images of some of the scions of feminist pornography including Annie Sprinkle and Nina Hartley. I watched Nina Hartley's films and felt admiration for her clear and frank way of talking about sex. I loved that she was completely present and aware of herself and her presentation. The films Nina, Annie, and others made represented a sexuality that was open, honest, and without shame; they showcased sex that was fun and consensual. They had a sexual agency that I found arousing. It was the first time that I saw sex that resonated with me and that I wanted to emulate. Even with these films though, I still had issues with the bodies: the differences between theirs and mine. I couldn't relate to the curvaceous body type of Nina Hartley or Annie Sprinkle. At 5'10" and 145 pounds, I have been athletic and sinewy for most of my adult life. My breasts are small A cups, and my look is often more androgynous than girly. Like many women, I experienced the simultaneous intrigue and revulsion that can accompany pornographic film watching [3]: of being simultaneously captivated and repulsed by the performers as they embody stereotypical female "beauty" and "perfection." --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/support

https://wildflowersex.com/blogs/sex-ed/ethical-and-feminist-porn (I appreciate this article 100%) "What is 'ethical porn'? Often called feminist porn or fair trade porn- ethical porn is a form of pornography that treats the performers in the video/ audio with respect, ensures fair pay for everybody involved in the work (including performers and filmmakers), and also there's mutual respect for boundaries and needs. Ethical porn is also known for showcasing a very realistic depiction of sex rather than the conventional porn which relies heavily on male gaze. Various body types, female pleasure, and queer relationships, are at the forefront of ethical porn. According to a study reported by Mind Body Green, one in every four people who visit porn websites are women. Ethical porn attempts to cater to these women." Some mainstream porn, but not all mainstream porn does have a history of trafficking, harming, exploiting, pimping, abusing, casting couching, and coercing women into unwanted sexual experiences off-screen and off-screen. "The depiction of racist stereotypes in porn and the marginalization of black performers has been a topic of discussion within the industry for years. “Pornography is the least progressive industry in America,” says Sutra. “There's no other industry that can say, ‘You are black so you cannot do this movie.'” Yet many in the industry see the conversation kickstarted by the Black Lives Matter protests as a prime opportunity to get prominent companies to change many of their problematic practices. That discussion intensified when the adult industry media publication AVN ran a story alleging police brutality victim George Floyd had links to the porn industry, sparking massive backlash and prompting AVN to delete the story and publish an apology." --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/support

"Porn was created as a choose-your-own fantasyland. There are genres for massage sex and bondage sex and cartoon sex and public sex and whatever else you want—even if what you want is race-based hate. Because in the kink-is-king world of adult-film production, racism isn't a terrible injustice or catalyst for a national reckoning. It's a commodity. And one that's exploding. Memberships on sites that offer only racist porn have swelled, according to new data obtained by Cosmo. At the beginning of the summer, during the height of the Black Lives Matter protests, internet searches for “racist porn” tripled. And between May and June, searches on Pornhub for Black porn—which can return racist results—spiked. A Pornhub representative tells Cosmo that the site is constantly moderating content for anything that would violate its terms of service and recently removed several racist videos from its platform, but plenty remain. And so on, across dozens more sites, from xHamster to XNXX to xVideos." "In fact, over the course of a months-long investigation, Cosmo found hundreds of racist videos featuring Black women across nearly every single site that offers porn. In one, viewed more than 4 million times, a white police officer tells a Black woman in handcuffs that “we're doing things my way” as he unzips his pants. In another, a Black maid is penetrated by her “white master.” --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/support

"This shift means that when nonwhite content creators raise concerns about racist categorization, sites need to listen and then act, lest they lose a huge swathe of their workforce. “I think things should be focused on the [performed] act” says Noire of the way these sites are organized. “The acts are universal. I'd like to be able to find people of color, I just don't want the tags to be racist.” Jet Setting Jasmine, a performer, licensed therapist, fetish trainer, and porn film producer, believes that the same standards should apply for all performers, regardless of race. “If something only needs to be tagged when it's ‘other' or nonwhite, then it's definitely elevating whiteness as the norm,” she says. “It should be equal, for everybody.” --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/support

"What is the craziest taboo about masturbation that you've ever heard? I think the craziest taboo about masturbation is the one that links self-pleasure to “sin”, seeing it as a “dirty” practice. I believe that there must be a reason why we were born with sexual organs and spots that can give us pleasure – actually, there are many good reasons. For so many years sexual science has taught us only about what technically happens in our body during heterosexual sex, implying that the only purpose of it should be procreation. Luckily, today we are more aware of the benefits of masturbation, with studies demonstrating how it can reduce stress, improve sleep, and also help balance a couple's libidos! For women especially, masturbation allows you to explore and understand your body better, so you will know exactly what you like when you have sex with a partner. We need to keep on feeding the sex-positivity debate both online and offline, and normalize the conversation around masturbation as a wellness practice. Which topic in regards to sexual education has been your favorite to cover during Masturbation Month? Many women out there think that something is wrong with them for not being able to comfortably have penetrative sex with a partner. Although sexuality is less of a taboo in society now, scientific knowledge about women's sexual wellbeing is still young, and many of us still are suffering a lack of information and support regarding sex, plus the message that women need to sexually please men first is still widely promoted in the media and in society. I wanted to show that penetration isn't possible for everyone, and that's okay. So I asked a member of my team who experienced vaginismus herself to address the issue and identify some of the psychological and physical causes of it. Check out the possible treatments for vaginismus and why non-penetrative sex is still sex. Where do you draw inspiration from for your work? “L'amant” by Jean Jacques Annaud had a huge impact on my filmmaking style. The first time I watched it was a revelation: the protagonist becomes an adult through sex and an unconventional love story, and this is completely shown from her point of view. Also Jill Soloway are a huge inspiration for me, as they strive to push the boundaries of gender and to represent diverse sexualities in their works, such as I Love Dick and Transparent. Their production process is incredibly inspiring to me and something that I've implemented into my own work. The main inspiration, however, comes from the sexual fantasies that people share with me on XConfessions! I receive lots of lusty confessions from my users and from time to time I to pick up a few of them to make them into a movie! Usually I choose the ones that inspire me the most and then I adapt my imagination to these anonymous fantasies. Other times I wake up with an interesting concept that I want to translate into a movie and then find a confession that feeds my idea." --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/support

"How can you make sure the porn you're watching is ethical? Unlike other industries, there are no consumer reports for porn (despite gossip about a Kitemark for porn), so it's mostly up to us to decide, preferably before we get to the bedroom. Here are some general guidelines you can use when you're searching for ethical porn. Pay for your porn Free sites make it harder for reputable companies to pay decent wages to their performers, as it devalues the product. Much like torrenting music or films, this can cause the industry to cut corners, and the performers end up paying the price. Pick a favorite We all have our favorite stars, and one of the best things we can do for them is to watch their films over and over. (Hey, no reason it can't be good for us, too.) Find interviews with performers, and listen to what they're saying about their work; they're likely to have more control over what they do and with whom. Some performers have their own websites, where they have even more control regarding the production. Follow your gut Ask yourself if the actors look like they're having fun. Does the scene feel safe? Is it something you'd do? That's not to say that you aren't allowed to explore your fantasies (f*ck that). For a lot of people, porn provides a safe outlet for fantasies that they wouldn't necessarily attempt in real life (i.e., BDSM). It's fine to enjoy those scenes, but you want to make sure that the actors are consenting adults who respect each other's boundaries. Sites like Make Love Not Porn do all the hard work for you and aim to provide porn that is sexy, fun, and consensual." --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/support

"Feminist porn performers are a vital part of the feminist porn movement. Ethical porn production typically focuses on how well sex workers and performers and treated and this means that those who appear in porn typically have more say in the production. More and more feminist porn performers are actively speaking out about their role in porn production and many are also working behind the camera." "Feminist porn directors seek to make pornography that reflects their own feminist ideals and their own thoughts on what makes for good porn. The directors listed here all have their own approaches to making porn, such that it is difficult to make broad statements about genre or type. This, however, is typical of feminist porn; it is self-identification as feminist that is important and the subsequent diversity of visions reflects how broad a church this movement can be. Here you'll find feminist directors who make hardcore or gonzo porn, those who make high-end features and those who shoot “amateur” content. Some have degrees in filmmaking or the arts, others are self-taught. There are also a significant number of performers who have moved behind the camera to make their own style of porn. This typically brings a sensitivity toward the performers and an understanding of what's required in a porn performance." --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/support

"What Is Ethical Porn? Put simply, ethical porn is pornography that is fair, equitable and consensual. It is porn that centers the welfare of performers in its production practices, that is transparent in its operations and that doesn't engage in harmful or negative post-production marketing. Ethical porn can depict a wide range of sex acts and performers; it is not restricted to any one group of producers or performers. Ethical porn exists within the wider movement of feminist porn and it is also made by mainstream US and European adult companies. It can also include any kind of production value – from amateur video to high-end studio productions. The main thing is the commitment to good labour practices, consent, transparency and social justice. Things To Look For The porn industry is diverse and there is currently no official “ethical porn” label. Attempts have been made to create a brand but it is difficult to get a consensus on what ethical porn looks like. As a consumer, you can look for some of these things: Membership of adult industry bodies An RTA (Restricted to Adults) label on the front of the site. Mission statements, ethics statements or transparent information about production practices A willingness to include behind-the-scenes content and performer interviews A focus on consent in descriptions and within the porn itself Visit the social media profiles of producers and see what they say and what is said about them Making Ethical Porn Labour practices have become a major focus in discussions of ethical porn. The US-based Adult Performer Advocacy Committee (APAC) have created a model bill of rights which articulates the standards that performers want upheld on porn sets. These include the right to know who they are performing with, what sex acts are expected and the right to decline requested sex acts. The bill of rights also deals with performer safety on set, specifying the right to safe sex supplies, food and water and sexual health information such as STD tests. The document also insists on the right of performers to be paid fairly and on time. APAC has a performer code of conduct which members agree to abide by. This specifies professional conduct expected of performers when working. The Free Speech Coalition also has a wider list of industry guidelines that specify respect for performers, a commitment to keeping adult material away from children, to maintaining confidentiality with customers and generally behaving with professionalism and honesty. These codes of conduct are not mandated in the adult industry; the guidelines are voluntary and not all producers of porn are members of the relevant associations. Given that anyone can make porn now with an iPhone, it has become increasingly important to shine a light on how porn is made to ensure that it is consensual and transparent. Feminist Porn Org: A Guide To Ethical and Feminist Porn (link) Paying For Porn Ethical porn consumption involves researching what companies make good porn but it also involves being willing to pay for it. Piracy has reduced the marketplace for porn and resulted in lower pay for performers and producers. If you want to see more ethical, feminist porn, it's important to pay for it. This way the creators and performers are supported, everyone can be paid well and money can be re-invested into more quality productions." P.S. I am open to producing, starring in, directing, and running ethical porn and feminist porn entities. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/support

This week on The Pleasure Podcast we welcome German portrait photographer, music video and lesbian feminist porn director Julia Schönstädt. Julia is passionate about platforming unheard voices, working with prisoners, refugees as well as sex workers, helping the world to see them beyond their labels. Her 16 Bars Project, a prisoner's portrait series that aimed to raise awareness for the penal system, led to a Guardian award. Her work as a guest director for Erika Lust, the pioneer in feminist porn, was her first foray into the adult film world. Fed up with the mainstream representation of girl on girl porn, Julia's work centers on authentic content for the LGBTQ community. She sent us a couple of her films and they are breath taking, fusing a music video aesthetic with erotica to create a delight for the senses, far removed from mainstream porn. You can access the films we discuss All Eyez on Me and Pleasure Seekers . Warning...they are very sexy.We discuss the problems of mainstream porn and how ethical porn is fighting to counteract them, from consent and sexual health, to making sure that women are behind the camera as well as in front.Julia shares her experience as a porn director on and off set; how language is key when making sex scenes believable and why revealing that she works in the sex industry was more scary than coming out.We look at the importance of speaking openly about porn, why we should be paying for it, and how porn has a role and a duty of care to teach about consent, diversity and sexuality to a whole generation of kids who rely on porn for their sex education.Julia has a production company @sugartowngirls and you can access Julia's films we discuss here:ALL EYEZ ON MEPLEASURE SEEKERS1953You can find out more about Julia's other work on her website: www.schonstadt.com *We would love to hear from you: email us at hello@thepleasurepodcast.com or tweet us @ThePleasurePod.Please do rate, review, and share the podcast, it helps other people find us.*Social Media:Julia Schönstädt: @j.schoenstaedtNaomi Sheldon: @NaomiSheldon1Anand Patel: @therealdranandFollow us at @ThePleasurePod and visit us at www.thepleasurepodcast.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

You can finally read about niche kinks like people who fuck on balloons, a.k.a lunars, or indulging in a fantasy on that co-worker even though you’re in a monogamous relationship. This magazine is a safe sex space intended for you to explore where ever your sexual journey takes you. Spoiler alert: Math’s latest issue features an intimate interview with adult film producer, transsexual man and human rights activist Buck Angel. Peck also talks about being polyamorous since high school, how she became sexually empowered and progressive, sex in public, play parties, and what happened after Math hosted a squirting workshop on Snapchat. She has some advice on how to discuss polyamorous feelings in a monogamous relationship and tips on how to take the first steps in being sex positive for those new to the game. “There is porn for everyone,” says Peck. “You can be sexually progressive and still not want to run through the streets naked.” Sign up for Math Magazine’s newsletter because their social media platforms are under a watchful eye and can be shut down at times. In this episode I have an invigorating conversation with activist and feminist pornographer Pandora Blake. We discuss the shady politics of repression of sexual expression. While there are many reasons to feel defeated and demoralized in the struggle for sexual and artistic liberation, Pandora provides a lot of strength and hope that a proud, empowered, uncompromising, pornographic revolution will prevail. Please visit her website at: http://pandorablake.com/blog About Pandora: Pandora Blake is a feminist pornographer, sex worker and sexual freedom campaigner. Her films have won multiple international awards and her website Dreams of Spanking has survived legal battles against porn censorship in the UK. Pandora is an active campaigner for sex work decriminalisation and labour rights, obscenity law reform, civil liberties and human rights, particularly relating to freedom of expression, gender, sexuality and privacy. She is official spokesperson for Backlash, which defends freedom of sexual expression among consenting adults in the UK, and organises alongside the Open Rights Group and the English Collective of Prostitutes. An experienced public speaker, Pandora regularly appears on panels and gives talks and media interviews. She runs a Patreon to support her unpaid activism and political work. As a sex worker and porn-maker, Pandora works passionately to increase social and legal acceptance of marginalised sexualities, educate the public about kink and BDSM, and reduce stigma and shame. She was awarded Publicist of the Year at the Sexual Freedom Awards 2015 for her efforts advocating for sex workers’ rights and against porn censorship. She is currently working on a book about the politics and psychology of fantasy, particularly the ones we don’t dare admit to in public. Her pornographic films are story-driven and gender-critical, exploring kinky fantasies via a queer erotic gaze. She is the sole owner and operator of Dreams of Spanking, which launched in 2011, faced government censorship for its unapologetic depiction of consensual BDSM, and successfully appealed against closure by the UK porn regulator in 2016. Her work has won awards including Best BDSM Scene 2015 at the Feminist Porn Awards, and first prize in the 2015 Short Film Competition at the Berlin Porn Film Festival. Her production ethos is performer-centric, and prioritises transparency, explicit performer consent, and equal pay for equal work. Pandora writes a blog on kink, porn and politics, and you can follow her on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

In the discussion we explore a wide range of legal, ethical, and financial issues in the porn industry that feminist consciousness provides hopeful solutions for. Feminist Porn Reviews Mission: Like many people, we here at FemPorn have a love-hate relationship with porn. We love it because we love sex. But we hate it because so much porn is openly and even proudly misogynistic. And even when it isn’t that bad, too much porn is completely devoid of genuine female pleasure and totally fails to include or even acknowledge a feminine perspective on sex. But porn doesn’t have to be that way, and not all porn is that way. So we love the fact that there is feminist porn that we can love and not hate, and we want to share what we have discovered with you…read more at: http://femporn.blogspot.com

Feminist porn means a lot of things to a lot of people, but what it doesn't do is exclude people based on gender, body type, partner preference or play style. It's, paraphrasing Tristan Taormino, organic, fair trade porn. It's organic because it emerges from performers doing precisely what they choose to do, and fair trade because they participate in ethical business practices. - Born and raised in Japan, Kelly was aware of her weight at a young age. "I was always a bigger kid...it wasn't until I came to the states that I realized I wasn't as big as people made me out to be," Kelly says. - Kelly believes working in porn helped improve her self-esteem and body image, and aided in shedding some of the negative thoughts she held as a child about her own body. - Kelly's most recent film, "Kelly Shibari is Overloaded," is a different kind of porn in that is helps break the stereotype that plus-size porn stars are "just a pretty face" who don't do the extreme sex scenes that are generally reserved for more slender women. - What makes "Overloaded" feminist porn for Kelly? Its sense of female empowerment and her being in control of the scenes. "If you're a gentleman, you get the sexiest part of me, if you're a jerk you don't get anything sexy about me," she says of her male fans who took part. - Kelly believes "Overloaded" and similar films allow fans to see that you don't always have to be inside the box - be experimental and branch out, but put safety first, she advises. - Tips for being comfortable with your own sexuality? Do your research before you experiment and find positive and fun in everything you do, Kelly recommends. Trying new things helps you find out what turns you on and what works for you!
