G's prep for the Giro is very nearly complete. Tour of the Alps was his last racing hit out before he heads for Italy and he breaks it all down for Luke in this week's Watts. Luke himself is finally on the mend, following his concussion back in mid-March. Fingers crossed he'll be back on the bike with a vengeance soon. He's keeping himself busy though, with two commentary stints on Eurosport over the past week. First up he called compatriot Stevie Williams winning Fleche Wallonne, and then was on air as Pogi decimated the field in typically stunning fashion at Liege. G reckons he's now on Merckx level. What do you think? Let us know on Twitter: @Watts_Occurring. We'll be back in a week's time for a bumper Giro preview... and then Grand Tour number one of the season will begin. Bring it on!
Geraint's cheating on Luke as former team-mate and rival podcaster Wout Poels 'stands in' as a co-host this week. We catch up on Pogacar's crash and Remco's white shorts in Liege, Fleche Wallonne and an Ineos victory at Tour of the Alps. Plus there's stories of blocking bank cards, burning balls and a dinner date. And we'll be back next week with Luke for the big Giro preview!
Prisluhni!
# Trafodaeth am Fleche Wallonne, Liege a Paris-Roubaix i gau pen y mwdwl ar glasuron y gwanwyn
We have a packed episode of The VeloNews Podcast this week, featuring interviews with Mike Woods and Annemiek van Vleuten, plus our analysis of Liège-Bastogne-Liège and our final takes on the 2021 classics season. Who won the Spring classics? It's the question of the week now that Liège-Bastogne-Liège has concluded. Wout van Aert, Marianne Vos, Annemiek van Vleuten, and the entire Deceuninck-Quick-Step squads can all claim victory this year. In truth, no one team or rider dominated classics season in 2021, bucking the trend that we've seen in past years, when Peter Sagan, Philippe Gilbert, and Quick-Step all crushed. Why were the classics so evenly fought? We discuss this topic on today's podcast. Then, Mike Woods joins the show to take us inside his Ardennes campaign, with detailed insight into Liège-Bastogne-Liège, as well as the slog up the Mur d Huy at Fleche Wallonne. What's it like to be in the front group up the Mur de Huy? Woods gives us a detailed explanation of that final surge up the iconic climb. Then, Annemiek van Vleuten joins the show to discuss her first few months at Team Movistar, and how her transfer to the Spanish team has created additional parity in the Women's WorldTour. All that and more on this week's episode of The VeloNews Podcast!

Mur de Huy, Fleche Wallonne. Great climb, not a great race in recent decades in my eyes. Full explanation and recap of another thrilling edition up the famous cycling "Wall."
Julian Alaphilippe makes it 20 victories for the season for Deceuninck–Quick-Step and Anna van der Breggen makes it 7 wins in a row at Fleche Wallonne. The guys break down the climb of the Mur de Huy, Pidcock shoe troubles, Roglic's runner up and thoughts on Partick Lefevere's stellar career. THEMOVE is presented by OURA. For hvem vandt egentlig løbet? Desuden nyt fra Tour of The Alps og Gianni Moscons genopblomstring. Og fransker-quiz...
The most iconic steep climb in cycling: Le Muur de Huy returns with many of the previous winners lining up. We give you a brief run down of the climb and who is going to do well, no messing about, no divvies. Straight to the point and cutting out the major detail is how we're rolling for these 'smaller' races.
In this week's edition of the Cyclingnews podcast - brought to you by Sportful and Pinarello - we hear from Nicolas Roche about his season and Team Sunweb. The Irishman played a significant part in the team's success in 2020, which included three Tour de France stage wins, and he talks about his road captain role and plans for next season. We also hand out season review report cards for Sunweb and AG2R La Mondiale, and we ask our listeners to record a new version of the Cyclingnews podcast theme tune. With just 5 wins this year, which was a third of what they won in 2019, AG2R La Mondiale had a tough season. Their standout riders were Nans Peters at the Tour and then Benoît Cosnefroy, who took three of their wins. At 25, he's really starting to fulfill the potential he showed when he won the World U23 title in 2017. However, the team as a whole struggled, losing Romain Bardet at the Tour to a crash, and then missing out on a glut of victories in smaller races in France after the majority of them were cancelled. We review their year, Ed Pickering from Procycling awards them a grade, while we also cast our eyes over their 2021 roster. Over at Sunweb, the German registered team won 16 races, which is their most since 2014 when they had 41 wins. They won three stages in the Tour, Fleche Wallonne, finished second in the Giro d'Italia, and had two of this year's breakthrough riders in Jai Hindley and Marc Hirschi. In the latest episode of the Cyclingnews podcast we preview the Giro d'Italia which starts on Saturday and hear from Matt White and Adam Hansen, with the latter dropping huge and unexpected news surrounding his future as an athlete. We'll also look back at Fleche Wallonne and hear from Marc Hirschi and European Editor Stephen Farrand makes his latest appearance. We also take a look at the most important news from the week, which includes Quinn Simmons suspension from Trek Segafredo after the American responded to a post from a cycling journalist about the upcoming US election, in which she asked supporters of Donald Trump to stop following her on Twitter. Simmons responded by writing “bye,” followed by an emoji of a hand with black skin tone waving. The use of a black emoji by a white person online has been repeatedly highlighted as racist, and the term “digital blackface” has been coined to describe its usage. Simmons later apologized for his actions and he remains suspended.

Robin describes his day in the break at Fleche Wallonne and his latest racing block as well as what's ahead for him and Rally UHC Cycling. Randy and Dean look back at the final two Ardenne Classic races and look forward to the upcoming stage races.
In this episode of the Cyclingnews Podcast, the team takes a look back at the men's and women's Fleche Wallonne races. In the men's, Julian Alaphilippe claimed is second title, while Anna van der Breggen stormed to a record equalling fifth in the women's event. As well as the winning rides, we discuss some of the standout performances and some of those that didn't hit the mark. We also hear from Van der Breggen on her win, Jakob Fuglang on taking second in the men's race and Michael Matthews on his eighth place after a difficult start to the season. We're back in a basement, though it's not the same basement. Neal has some sort of flu, so Caley and James are in James' basement this week, along with Dane Cash. The three discuss Mathieu van der Poel's incredible Amstel Gold victory — one of the most amazing finishes we've ever seen — and Kasia Niewiadoma's daring attack, then look ahead to Fleche Wallonne. In this week's Nerd Alert, James chats with a tubeless rim manufacturer that isn't happy with the new tubeless "standard."
Between Two Wheels: Cycling News and Commentary from NorCal and the World
Between 2 Wheels Podcast: Cycling News, Commentary, and Analysis from NorCal; Host Tyler Janke, Curt Mills and Chris Flower; CyclingNews. Curt once again has better things to do than discuss cycling, but Tyler and Chris do their best covering the World Tour and NorCal races – and apparently this breaks Tyler’s heart – literally. Are we blaming Curt for Tyler’s health problems? Perhaps. With the World Tour races, we discuss Amstel Gold, Fleche’ Wallonne, Tro Bro Leon, Tour of the Alps and a short preview of LBL (Liege-Bastogne-Liege). With the NorCal races we recap the Winchester Circuit Race, Auburn Crit, Kingsburg Crit and Visalia Crit. We also discuss an inquiry from the Auburn Crit promoter/director on whether stacking these two events (Winchester/Auburn) is too difficult and calendar competition as well. We go over our winners and losers on the NorCal and World Tour scene and of course a short discussion on Lance and his settlement with the US Government and Floyd Landis. Lastly we break some news regarding the Tour of California and the B2W_Podcast's plans for covering the race. Also, hate mail has come to the the podcast. We're in the middle of the Ardennes week which means there's heaps of racing and heaps of climbs around. This week Sarah and Dan talk through how Amstel Gold and Fleche Wallonne both unfolded (they were amazing!), and what this might mean for Liege-Bastogne-Liege on Sunday. There's also time to catch up on some of the main results from the recent Track World Championships, and to find out a bit more about Lizzie Deignan's new book "Steadfast" which is out now. Of course there's plenty more in the podcast and even more in the post!
The SkullKrusher welcomes back Klaus who tells a few tales of his trip to Paris-Roubaix. Mike and Natalia also join in as they discuss Amstel Gold, the Fleche Wallonne (men's and women's), and all sorts of other stuff like Quincy Jones, Klaus' favorite topic: Alejandro Valverde's hairline.
