For the week between Tour Down Under and Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race, we return to our "conversation series." Loren sat down with old friend Molly Weaver, former rider for Team Sunweb (now Picnic PostNL) turned Ultra racer. They two discuss the issue of power to weight, how the demand to lose weight ended Molly's career, and Molly's plans for 2025: On the Edge, Molly's British Coastline World Record Attempt.Molly's written work from her time as a professional road cyclist can be found here.

This week we're re-releasing JT's conversation with Team Intermarche-Wanty-Gobert Performance Manager Aike Visbeek. Aike was formerly Team Sunweb's sports director and contributed to Tom Dumoulin's overall victory in the 2017 Giro d'Italia. Anyone who's been following cycling has been hearing a lot of talk about Intermarche's recent success, thanks to the coaching of Aike and the talent of riders like Eritrean super star Biniam Girmay. Intermarche's rag to riches story is cycling's version of the Money Ball, with Aike taking the place of Brad Pitt.Aike and JT take a deep dive into the physical and mental challenges required to compete at the highest level in the world of cycling. They examine the intense pressure put on cyclists to produce results and what the repercussions have been for some of the biggest names in the sport. Aike explains the hurdles of developing a team of riders and the importance of buy-in when introducing a new training program. I had a great time talking to Aike and look forward to what he and Team Intermarche-Wanty-Gobert do this season. This is the first ten minutes of an episode that's just been released for Friends of the Podcast called A Team Apart. It's a study of a team that punched above its weight last season, Team Sunweb. They won three Tour de France stages, Flèche Wallonne, Paris-Tours and nearly the Giro d'Italia too. A new sponsor DSM has perhaps given the team greater security, considering Sunweb is in the fragile holiday market, although the team lost its new star, Marc Hirschi on the eve of the season. This episode gets under the skin of how the team often shuns the conventional approach. To sign up as a Friend of the Podcast go to http://thecyclingpodcast.com/friends

On this week's episode of The VeloNews Podcast we take a dive into two of the bigger news stories from the world of cycling, and hear from U.S. rider Chad Haga. New circulated this week that Ineos-Grenadiers is interested in signing Wout van Aert for 2022. Andrew Hood breaks down why this news is circulating now, and what an Ineos-Grenadiers bid to sign van Aert could do to his value in the pro peloton. How much would Jumbo-Visma need to give up to keep the Belgian star? It's a huge question that could tip the balance of power in the WorldTour. Then, we break down the recent interview given by Wilco Kelderman about the 2020 Giro d'Italia. Kelderman said that Team Sunweb's tactics on the stage over the Passo Stelvio left him feeling isolated. Could Kelderman have won the Giro had Sunweb played its cards differently? One man who has a firm opinion on the matter is Chad Haga, who was part of that Sunweb squad at the Giro. Haga joins the podcast to take us inside the 2020 Giro, and explore whether or not Sunweb's tactics cost Kelderman the win. All that and more on this week's episode of The VeloNews Podcast.

In this week's edition of the Cyclingnews podcast - brought to you by Sportful and Pinarello - we hear from Nicolas Roche about his season and Team Sunweb. The Irishman played a significant part in the team's success in 2020, which included three Tour de France stage wins, and he talks about his road captain role and plans for next season. We also hand out season review report cards for Sunweb and AG2R La Mondiale, and we ask our listeners to record a new version of the Cyclingnews podcast theme tune. With just 5 wins this year, which was a third of what they won in 2019, AG2R La Mondiale had a tough season. Their standout riders were Nans Peters at the Tour and then Benoît Cosnefroy, who took three of their wins. At 25, he's really starting to fulfill the potential he showed when he won the World U23 title in 2017. However, the team as a whole struggled, losing Romain Bardet at the Tour to a crash, and then missing out on a glut of victories in smaller races in France after the majority of them were cancelled. We review their year, Ed Pickering from Procycling awards them a grade, while we also cast our eyes over their 2021 roster. Over at Sunweb, the German registered team won 16 races, which is their most since 2014 when they had 41 wins. They won three stages in the Tour, Fleche Wallonne, finished second in the Giro d'Italia, and had two of this year's breakthrough riders in Jai Hindley and Marc Hirschi. (10.12.) In this week's episode we look at two high profile figures who are returning to old haunts. Mark Cavendish is going back to Deceuninck-Quick Step, the team with which he spent three successful seasons earlier in his career, while in an even more surprising move, his old mentor, Rod Ellingworth, is returning to Team Ineos after just a year in charge at Bahrain-McLaren. In a week full of major news stories, Lionel Birnie, Daniel Friebe and Richard Moore discuss the moves by Cavendish and Ellingworth, as well as Team Sunweb's rebranding as Team DSM for 2021. The new sponsorship took everybody by surprise but we hear from the man who did the deal, team boss Iwan Spekenbrink, as well as the team's veteran Irishman, Nicolas Roche. We also have an interview with Cherie Pridham, who will be the first female sports director at a World Tour team when she takes the reins at Israel Startup Nation, a team that in 2021 will include Chris Froome, Michael Woods and Sep Vanmarcke as well as Dan Martin and Alex Dowsett. The Cycling Podcast is supported by iwoca (https://www.iwoca.co.uk/) and Science in Sport (https://www.scienceinsport.com/) . This episode is also sponsored by Laka (https://laka.co/gb/) , a community of cyclists all co-operating to provide insurance for your bike and equipment.
For this week's CyclingTips podcast Caley, Dane, Abby, and Shoddy chat about Mark Cavendish and his situation next year, the new Team Sunweb plus more transfer news, and finally Cherie Pridham joining Israel Start-Up Nation for 2021. Shoddy walks us through his $200 winter kit challenge and contemplates what his next project should be. With James sitting out this episode we turn to the CyclingTips team in Australia who have been working on an exciting new project, coming soon to the CyclingTips youtube channel.
Jai Hindley came within 20 minutes of winning the Giro d'Italia. Losing a Grand Tour on the final day is a bitter pill to swallow. Thankfully, the 24-year-old Australian Hindley has a steady head upon his shoulders. Because while it was Tao Geoghegan Hart who took home the Giro title, it was Team Sunweb's Hindley who came away with the realisation he can win a Grand Tour one day.The Cyclist Magazine Podcast sat down with Hindley for a long conversation around his Giro experience discussing everything from team leadership dynamics, struggling to put jackets on and wearing the Maglia Rosa in Milan. We also made the surprise revelation that Hindley is half Mancunian and chat about being the only boy at school who shaved his legs and wore lycra on the weekends. If you like the episode remember to leave us a review and share with your cycling friends. In association with Castelli. For more on the Cyclist Magazine Podcast - https://www.cyclist.co.uk/cyclistmagazinepodcastSubscribe to Cyclist Magazine now - https://cyclistmag.co.uk/cyclistmagazinepodcast

Support the show: https://krant.nl See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Brad is joined by Brian Smith to reflect on another day of double Grand Tour action. Tao Geoghegan Hart moved on to the podium after Stage 18 of the Giro, but there is special praise reserved for Ineos Grenadiers team-mate Rohan Dennis, who laid the foundations for Geoghegan Hart. However, hard questions are asked of Team Sunweb. Did they pass on an opportunity to give Wilco Kelderman a near-unassailable lead? Instead the race heads to its final three days with just 15 seconds between the top three riders.Elsewhere, Brian and Brad talk through Dan Martin's Stage 3 win on the Vuelta, after the Irishman took an emotional win following a 166km ride from Lodosa to Vinuesa, as Primoz Roglic retained the lead in the GC. In this episode Richard Moore and Lionel Birnie are again joined by François Thomazeau to review stage 18 of the Giro d'Italia, which tackled the legendary Stelvio before the finish at Laghi di Cancano. We discuss the World Jacket Putting-On Championships and Team Sunweb's tactics and ask why the mood in the camp might not be ecstatic tonight considering they took the stage victory and the pink jersey. We reflect on João Almeida's incredible run as race leader, which came to an end on the Stelvio, and wonder whether Tao Geogheghan Hart can win this Giro over the weekend. And there's an unmissable entry in James Knox's Giro diary. Then we discuss the third stage of the Vuelta a España, which was won by Ireland's Dan Martin. In this episode we join Richard Moore and a good friend of the podcast in Belgium to review the Tour of Flanders, which featured a showdown between two riders whose rivalry began in cyclo-cross and are now destined to clash in the cobbled classics for years to come. Then it’s over to Lionel Birnie and Daniel Friebe to recap the first serious mountain stage of the Giro d’Italia, which saw a first grand tour stage win for Tao Geoghegan Hart, while João Almeida just about hung onto the pink jersey after a brilliant effort by Team Sunweb. But the question is, who’s the favourite for the Giro title now? The Cycling Podcast is supported by iwoca and Science in Sport.

Cycling: Giro d'Italia on brink of cancellation amid COVID-19 cases (Reuters) - The Giro d’Italia was on the brink of cancellation on Tuesday after five teams were hit by COVID-19 cases on the first rest day, with two of them pulling out of the three-week grand tour 12 days before the finish in Milan. The Mitchelton-Scott team withdrew after four staff members tested positive for the coronavirus following top rider Simon Yates pulling out last week. Jumbo-Visma, whose leader Steven Kruisjwijk tested positive, said they would not start the 10th stage on Tuesday. A Team Sunweb rider, one staff member from Ineos-Grenadiers and AG2R-La Mondiale also returned positive tests, organisers RCS said. RCS, in a joint statement with the International Cycling Union (UCI), said the teams’ doctors had ordered “isolation measures”. Sunweb’s Michael Matthews had tested positive and sports director Luke Roberts said the Australian was asymptomatic. ‘If This Works It’s Going To Change Everything’: Cycling’s BMC And F1’s Red Bull Advanced Technologies Hint At Cycling Revolution Red Bull Advanced Technologies’ Vehicle Science team has been helping BMC technicians with simulations of bike behavior based on data from Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models. Taking place between October 15th and October 21st, participants are asked to join the Colorado Classic Strava Group, hop on their bikes and get climbing! The first cyclist to ride 13,668 feet in elevation (the total amount of feet climbed during the 2019 event) during that week-long climbing window wins. A second signed jersey will be awarded to the cyclist who records the most elevation gain during the Climbing Window. The #InspiredWeRide Jersey Campaign is the latest initiative in a series of ways the organizers behind the Colorado Classic have kept the cycling world engaged during this unusual and trying year; while furthering their mission be more than a race, and act as a movement to inspire and empower women of all ages to break the mold, and fight for their goals. Levels Health Tests and Results: For a given carbohydrate (eg, a banana), what is my blood glucose at different times of the day? Same carbohydrate paired with protein/fat different times of the day Same carbohydrate with no post exercise Same carbohydrate followed by aerobic exercise Pre/during/post aerobic exercise fasted Pre/during/post aerobic exercise fueled (Skratch vs. UCAN) Sunday 2 Hour Brick (90 minute ride/30-40 minute run) Before the test I had a cup of coffee and a high protein and fat breakfast of bacon, eggs and sourdough toast. I had a swig of UCAN Lemon, and a bottle of UCAN Lemon and another of UCAN Hydrate. The brick workout was a 90 minute ride followed by a 30-40 minute run. The protocol was to take a BGL measurement and fuel with UCAN every 15 minutes. The following were tests just prior to starting the ride and every 15 minutes, and a final post ride measurement. The lack of an initial spike in BG illustrates that my muscles are getting adequate glycogen from muscle stores or UCAN, or both. Starting with a high protein breakfast may have had an influence by starting me out with a steady BGL. On the ride, the effort was variable as measured by heart rate and perceived exertion. I was fueling consistently every 15 minutes with UCAN bar and energy drink. Just prior to the 60 minute measurement, a had an encounter with rider who honked off at me for riding their wheel. It actually got me a little honked off and got my adrenaline going (see 10:36 measurement; 101 and rising). It continued to rise to 122 fifteen minutes later. This increase could have been from one or more of the following. A) an increase in effort sending a demand for more glycogen; B) an increase in carbohydrate from UCAN; C) adrenalin rush from the encounter with the rude rider. 15 minutes into the run there was a 12 point drop, which would suggest a sufficient supply of fuel for the muscles and insulin was packing glycogen into the muscles. Fifteen minutes later the BG increased back to 95 suggesting a surge into the blood stream either from UCAN or the liver. The post run measurement was 97. I had a UCAN protein shake with milk after the run and then took a measurement at lunch. There was a big post run spike which I can only attribute to the UCAN protein shake. Why does exercise sometimes raise blood sugar? Exercise can trigger the body to release stress hormones, like adrenaline and cortisol. Adrenaline can stimulate the liver and the adrenal glands to release glucose and cortisol which makes you more resistant to insulin. Video of the Week: The race is Long: Behind the scenes at Bear Lake Brawl Credit to Kenny Withrow Upcoming Interviews: Kristian Blummenfelt is a Norwegian triathlete and Olympian, competing at both short course (sprint and standard distance).
