Dustin, Jake, and sometimes Christy celebrate the magic of film and our deep, lifelong love for them as we share laughs and beers together. John Wick holds such a special place in our hearts, that it's incredible to look back and realize it came so close to never happening so many times. This episode we thank Keanu Reeves for his dedication and for saving and transforming action movies not once, but TWICE! We dive deep into spoilers of all four movies, and try to emphasize the lore and meanings of each character in this high-fantasy world with gritty, real world violence. We also get deep into all the characters and why they work so well, not just because of how they're portrayed, but their deeper mythological meanings as well. And finally, we speculate about the future of this rich world and spinoffs and a confirmed 5th movie abound. We definitely look forward to Ballerina, Caine, and Chapter 5 whatever it ends up being, and despite any fears, have total faith in the creators (as long as they stay attached).Have thoughts about the episode? We also added two new, limited merch designs with a larger donation margin. One of those is based on the VHS Pirate logo that until now has only been available for Fan Club members. So check it out, 100% of any store purchase will be donated. Make sure you get in there before the end of June and the new designs go away. https://movie-bonerz-podcast.printify.me/Special thank you to Alan Hlavacek and Travis Mason from Attack on Venus for the sick theme music! After enjoying our first ever Fog Day celebration last year, as April 21st approached again we wanted to take things to the next level. It sounded like a good idea to try the next generation with the remake. That was before we realized it has a 3.7 out of 10 on IMDb. We try our best to make sense of things and see the bright side, but still come away with a ton of questions and so many issues. It's a really fun time though, analyzing how this was made and how it should have been done instead. So sorry if you have to watch this because of us, but it certainly led to a very interesting conversation! Before that, Jake gives spoiler-free first impressions of Too Old to Die Young, Severence season 1, and Sisu. Dustin has only seen The Chosen Season 5. Then we both were asked to check out an indie movie on streaming called Little Miss Sociopath so give our more involved thoughts on that as well. Thanks to the creator Miv Evans for reaching out and sharing her movie! You can watch it streaming on Amazon, Google Play, and YouTube Movies now!If you're caught up on podcasts and want more, or just want to support us to make the show better, join the Official Movie Bonerz Fan Club! For the last couple months, we've been struggling to narrow down our top 10 movie directors of all time. Well we think we've done as good as we can do, so join us as we present which ones we feel the most impacted by, and are the most consistently amazing directors working today, and with a long backlog of history defining films. Before that, review three very confusing but very real April Fool's Day movie news. Dustin gives his spoiler-free first impressions of Death of a Unicorn, Trap, Arcadian, House of David, and to complete the universe: finally saw Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter. Jake shares his thoughts after first seeing White Lotus season 3 (all but the finale), This is the Tom Green Documentary, Freddy Got Fingered, Kentucky Fried Movie, 21 Grams, and Shrinking season 2.If you're caught up on podcasts and want more, or just want to support us to make the show better, join the Official Movie Bonerz Fan Club! Three months in, we finally hold the 2025 Movie Draft, where we try to select (what we hope will be) thirty of the biggest and best movies of the year to our teams. We'll track progress and major matchups throughout the 2025 season, and talk a whole lot of trash. We also recap what went right and what went very wrong for both of us in 2024 and crown a champion who gets to take home the belt! Before that though, Dustin gives spoiler-free initial thoughts on "The Monkey," "Stopmotion," and "Caption America: Brave New World." Jake gives his first impressions after seeing "Alien: Romulus," "Civil War," and of course the new season of "Love is Blind." We also correct the Bond movie news from two eps ago. Then finally, we got to watch a very impressive new short film hitting festivals soon called "Liquor Bank" and share all our thoughts. Thanks to Adam Freed from MovieArcher.com for the opportunity. Follow the creators and look for its release later this year! It's good to be back! We've missed you terribly. A lot has happened in the past nearly 5 months, and we've watched a lot of new movies in that time as well. We knock the dust off by sharing spoiler-free thoughts on all the things we've been watching, while teasing some controversial opinions leading up to the 2024 Movie Bonerz Awards next episode. You can also join us during the awards LIVE on YouTube, Friday March 7th at 7:15pm MT. In this episode, we also catch up on movie news and trailer reactions leading up to the 2025 Movie Draft. But first we share big life announcements as well, giving you a feel for where the show is at and what to expect going forward. Plus Jake built a theater in his house, has started ingesting caffeine in a very strange way, while Dustin had a profound, life altering experience. Watch EdgeX for free on YouTube now! Follow J.R. on Instagram and YouTube and rate the movie on Letterboxd and IMDB. Dustin flies solo in this bonus interview with a very talented and inspiring young filmmaker: J.R. Stokes, who recently released his very first feature film: EdgeX. If you recall our previous interview about his short film Headstone of Solitude, then you remember we were very interested in his next project because that stylized, period, short showed so much promise. We can definitely say, we weren't disappointed. They guys discuss the process of making a first movie, and the premiering and reception of it. As well as the dark subject matter and influences within the world and from other media. Definitely check it out and support young, original filmmakers who are out there doing something new and exciting for all the right reasons. With Joker: Folie à Deux releasing very soon, we felt it appropriate to revisit one of the best and most different comicbook movies ever made. We analyze what made it such a surprise success, almost as surprising as Todd Phillips completely separating from his comedy roots. We reflect on the story, both as huge Batman/Joker fans, but also just as an iconic film in cinema history for its visual style and the performances within. But I think most importantly, we discuss the portrayal of mental health and the relationship society has with it, as well as the tendency for people in bad situations to find the wrong people to blame and also elect just the worst people to hopefully lead them out of it. Then of course we also share our hopes and dreams (and mainly concerns) about the sequel in advance of its release. Before that, Dustin gives spoiler-free first impressions of Hit Man, Under Paris, Night Swim, and Bad Boys: Ride or Die. Jake also saw Hit Man, and randomly shares thoughts on Planes and Perfect Match season 2. 2024 is a big year for LOST fans! The show had a major impact on us individually (possibly more than any other), and also is a huge factor that contributed to us becoming friends in the first place. We tackle the huge challenge of discussing the most amount of content and characters we've ever taken on in an episode. Even though we can't cover everything, we do go through all the high and low points of the vast cast of characters, and the general arcs of each season. SPOILER ALERT! We get into heavy spoilers about Lost (and a little of Game of Thrones). If you still haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and enjoy. It's the kind of show you are guaranteed to not want to stop binging! It's the largest movie industry in the world with the most new movies produced every year, and yet, neither of us have ever taken the time to sit and watch one. It was a glaring gap in our Top 10: Foreign Films episode, and we knew we had to make amends. So we found 10 highly-recommended movies spanning different genres, regions, and time periods in Indian cinema history. We were prepared for some foreign language movies but what we got can only be described as culture shock. We learned Bollywood is only a fraction of the industry, and some of these 10 aren't "Bollywood" at all. We learned some history of the country, people, and culture. We picked up on some major movie stars and different long running box office models. We even learned about how to play cricket and avoid taxes. Join us on this journey, and let us know what Indian films we should watch next! Before that, Dustin gives spoiler-free first impressions of Deadpool & Wolverine, Lisa Frankenstein, and Love Lies Bleeding. Jake shares thoughts on Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1, A Quiet Place: Day One, and his wife pressured him into watching most of Grease. Our second guest co-host, Alien-lover, and prestigious podcaster: Martin from the Film vs. Film Podcast. We're getting more and more excited for Fede Alvarez to return the Alien franchise to its horror roots, complete with some amazing practical effects. To prepare, we thought we should return to the three movies that come before Romulus in the timeline: Prometheus, Alien: Covenant, and Alien. We try to give you everything you need to remember before seeing the new movie, but also get sucked into the lore, giving stupid characters the benefit of the doubt, and speculating where the new movie will go from here (including a very specific request from Martin about the new crew). Dustin gives spoiler-free first impressions of Longlegs, Martin recently saw A Quiet Place: Day One, and Jake just discovered Survivor so hasn't watched anything else. Thanks so much, Martin, for coming on and sharing your Alien love. Support him and the Film vs. Film Podcast in all the ways! We've got an extremely vengeful episode in store for you! A few people have asked for this over the last year or so, which made us keep bumping it up our backlog of ideas. So glad it's finally here. We bring a ton of movies with a surprising variety of styles and reasons for justifiable vendettas. Some are serious, some are very fun, and a couple can only be described as "insane" in the best way possible. Before that, Jake shares spoiler-free first impressions of Inside Out 2, The Watchers, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, and the stuntman docuseries ACTION. Dustin has watched Monkey Man, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, A Family Affair, and most of The Boys season 4. We both give extended thoughts on a new short film, currently doing very well in festivals, and coming to streaming this fall: Lizziehead. For the first time ever, we have a special guest host join us! We know Liz is a great movie fact researcher and loves conspiracy theories, so she was really the only choice for this topic. Fan theories are so exciting because they're another way to share our communal love of these movies, and explore new ways to enjoy them. The three of us take turns sharing and analyzing the most plausible and most divisive fan theories the internet can muster, across all kinds of movies! This episode we're celebrating all the great movies that critics just don't appreciate. There are TONS of fan favorites that have a "rotten" rating on Rotten Tomatoes. We decide to pick the best of the so-called worst to point out how flawed the system is. After listening, we'll be asking you to vote and select a winner, so find us on Instagram and let us know! We also give you more details on the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT teased last episode, and next episode will be a very exciting FIRST for us! Before that, the Jake gives spoiler-free first impressions of The Fall Guy and the first episode of Dark Matter. He also tricked Dustin into watching Anyone But You. HAPPY 4th BIRTHDAY TO US! June 13th marks the anniversary of our first ever episode, where we boldly chose to make our Top 10: Action/Adventure lists. Now we're a little bit older, and a little bit wiser, so we decide to redo that topic for a few reasons: 1. the sound quality of that first episode sucked donkey dongs, 2. including adventure films really limited our action entries, and 3. we left off some movies we really shouldn't have, and its haunted us ever since! You can still find the original episode for free on MovieBonerz.com, but let this is a dawn of a new era! Before that, Dustin gives spoiler-free first impressions of The Fall Guy, the full series of Fallout from a non-gamer perspective, The Roast of Tom Brady, and of course Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Then both of the guys share an extended review of a very interesting new movie called New Life. It is out now on digital in the U.S. and U.K. It's a very different kind of survival horror thriller, and got rave reviews from FrightFest last year. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt18973958/ Special thank you to Alan Hlavacek and Travis Mason from Attack on Venus for the sick theme music! We are really excited about this upcoming feature film, and it was so fun getting to talk to the writer, director, editor, and overall creator: CJ Goodwyn. We talk about what goes into researching and writing a compelling mystery featuring the world's greatest detective. We also discuss balancing characters fans know and love with bringing in new, original villains. It was a very cool conversation, and you have the opportunity to support this movie, as well as get it brought to your town as CJ tours the country showing it theatrically. Check out the Sherlock Holmes: Mare of the Night website and Instagram for more. Find CJ Goodwyn on YouTube, Instagram and Facebook to support this and future projects! This topic has been on the list since the beginning, but we can't believe it took so long to get around to. There are SO many great movies made around the world, but they are almost never shown in American theaters, so they really rely on word-of-mouth to get noticed in the states. Well we're happy to be those mouths! Here are our favorite movies from a foreign country which (mostly) are also in a foreign language. We also talk about how we weirdly have zero Bollywood exposure, and debate subtitles vs. dubbing. We recorded this back when we both saw "Dune Part Two," but keep it brief. Dustin keeps it on theme by also seeing "Train to Busan" for the first time, and Jake gives his first impression thoughts on "Argylle." Then both of them watched an incredible new sci-fi crime thriller from the Czech Republic called "Restore Point." It's out now on digital and available to rent through Amazon, Apple, YouTube and more. It was amazing and right up our alley, so check it out! We were offered a fantastic opportunity to sit down with Jonathan Salemi, and pick his brain about writing, directing, and producing his film The Last Deal (out now). We talk about why he wanted to write this story, based on a real person and real events, as California ended its prohibition on marijuana. He enlightens us about what it takes to make such a great looking movie, filmed entirely without permits, in the middle of Los Angeles. We were excited to hear that the whole cast rallied around the decision, and it just elevated the intensity of this crime thriller. Check it out to hear why he started questioning his choices in a hardware store parking lot, with bolt cutters, zip-ties, and duffle bags in hand. Thanks Jonathan for joining us! Check out his work @jonathan.salemi to support his next project (which sounds awesome). Check out @TheLastDealMovie streaming now on Starz, and to rent or own on digital. Possibly the best remake ever attempted, we break down why the Apes trilogy works so well. One of us grew up loving the original movies, and the other didn't, but we both are so profoundly moved by the new series. We get deep into the decisions made by the filmmakers, and the powerful visuals and messages throughout Caesar's arc. We're definitely looking forward Kingdom, and are hopeful that it continues this incredible legacy, but after 7 years and a Disney acquisition... will it? The boys skip the draft, but have a lot of new movies to share spoiler-free thoughts on. Dustin saw The First Omen, Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Civil War, and Abigail. Jake watched Madame Web (yes, seriously) and the first two episodes of Fallout. Then both of them watched Late Night with the Devil! Dustin also makes reference to Restore Point, but you'll hear a lot more about that next episode (spoiler alert: it's a huge recommend). Since Justice League, the discussions of Director's Cuts have been at an all-time high. Even though it's been a thing since the 60's, and continues to affect movies that were initially released in the late 1920's. But as we wait for Zack Snyder's apparently definitive "Rebel Moon" versions, let's look back at some examples where a new edit to a film made it measurably better, and when they made a movie significantly worse. While Ridley Scott and Zack Snyder most commonly utilize the re-release gimmick, other greats like Coppola, Spielberg, Cameron and more have also attempted it with varying degrees of success. We also discuss extended editions, unrated versions, alternate endings, mythical assembly cuts, and much more! Unfortunately we had some issues recording the beginning of the episode, so we drop you right in the middle to share our recent guest appearances on I Was a Teenage Film Snob and We Love Horror. A new milestone is crossed in the Movie Draft update, we rep some new merch, and we (very briefly) discuss Taylor Swift. We told you last October in our episode about the movies John Carpenter wrote, directed, and scored that THE FOG (1980) was a delight and unexpectedly good. Because the movie takes place on April 21st, and is about the centennial founding of Antonio Bay, we decided every April 21st should be celebrated as a global holiday: FOG DAY! So get your pirate garb and fog machines ready, because we're celebrating the 144th anniversary in our first ever FOG DAY celebration! Dustin shares thoughts on a lot of first-time watches: The Stranger, Hypnotic, On the Line, Irish Wish, and Quiet on the Set - the documentary about the Nickelodeon controversy. Jake gives a first impression for Ricky Stanicky. Then the boys share some extended thoughts about a really interesting film they were asked to check out called The Last Deal. When people complain there's no originality left in Hollywood, this is the kind of movie they should be seeking out and supporting. Fantastic performances from actors you don't know the names of. Amazing that it is both almost entirely improvised, and a brilliant, mind-blowing story as well! The Inaugural Movie Bonerz Awards highlights the best (and some of the worst) that last year had to offer. From stunts to practical effects, from the writing to the music, from the best hero to the worst villain, and from the most over-the-top sex scene to... whatever can follow that. We were fortunate enough to be joined by a ton of very hilarious guest presenters for each of our categories. Since this was recorded in our first-ever live stream, subscribe to be notified when we go live next time, because we will definitely be doing that again! No first impressions this week, as we've been cramming all the movies we missed or skipped last year. Sure we aren't David Lynch fans, and yes it's mostly based on Mulholland Drive, but because Lynch himself hated the production and result the 1984 Dune adaptation, perhaps that means we'll like it? We test that theory by both watching it for the first time, and trying to decode how much of this insane story will be in the new Dune: Part Two. We spoil the whole thing, but if you've seen Villeneuve's versions, I really don't think you need to worry about it. Although some of it is so crazy it really does need to be seen to be believed.... But before that, Dustin gives spoiler-free first impressions of The Iron Claw, Wonka, and American Fiction. In this episode we both bring perfectly complimentary beers to the episode, Dustin finally picks a movie draft team name, and we get into a topic that is both very popular and very taboo: public nakedness! There have been a lot of bad examples of pointless nudity in film, but what are some of the best uses of it? We discuss both in depth, as well as a fairly comprehensive history of naked people in moving pictures and also art throughout human existence. It's crazy that our MPAA rating system episode was two years ago, but this is a great follow-on to that one. But before that, Dustin gives spoiler-free first impressions of Argylle and Past Lives. One of our first episodes ever was insanely hilarious but the quality was pretty awful. We revisit the topic of our favorite romantic movies ever, bring up the greatest blooper in the history of the show, and I think deliver an episode that's even better than the original. This episode we find out what Brazil from 1985 is really about, and how the visuals and story are both a beautiful dream and a horrific nightmare. We get deep into spoilers, so make sure you check this movie out first. We liked it a lot! It is a great mix of fun and bleak which makes this black comedy so poignant. We go on a few anti-authoritarian (and anti-internet) rants, reflect on society and human nature through the ages, and make connections to all the media this movie has to have inspired over the years. It also includes the most amazing Robert De Niro cameo ever! Before that, Dustin gives spoiler-free first impressions of Good Burger 2, Candy Cane Lane, Best Christmas Ever, and Merry Little Batman. Your favorite childhood films are likely a weird amalgam of old movies your parents showed you, new movies from your generation, and random crap you rented one time with your best friend, that you don't remember the name of, but will never forget at least one scene. This episode is about all of that as we both share our top ten movies we watched over and over when we were young. As kids, we LOVED Ernest and would rent every movie we could get our hands on. It's probably been over two decades since we've watched one, but we still remember the key moments (and not much else). Even though we worry we might be as annoyed as our mothers were back in the 90s, we are enticed by the shot of nostalgia and decided to rewatch Jim Varney's entire Ernest filmography for this episode! "Requiem for a Dream" is not just about junkies and hard drug use. In fact, we relate to these four stories for a million different reasons, but we all have that vulnerability inside of us. We dig into one of Dustin's favorite movies ever that Jake's never seen before. Be sure to watch "Requiem for a Dream" before we spoil the whole film! We also remind you to drink water, admit our own vices, and pick apart the whole story and filmmaking choices Darren Aronofsky made to figure out why it's so great. John Carpenter is a name who is very well known, but still less appreciated than he should be. Not just for how many iconic films he's created, but also the fact that he writes, directs, edits, and composes an original score for most of them. It's those nine movies that he's had the most control over which we focus on in the episode, but of course The Thing, In the Mouth of Madness, and Big Trouble in Little China also have to come up. We also debate why Wes Craven and the mainstream horror founders get more praise, and if they really deserve it compared to John Carpenter's legacy. Before we talk Carpenter though, we get to interview possibly the next generation of total filmmaker: J.R. Stokes. He recently released Headstone of Solitude - a psychological horror period piece, and his first short film ever. The audio had issues in those early episodes, and it's been long enough that we decided to archive them and make new lists! The result is that both our lists are pretty different, with quite a few new entries. You'll find classics and hidden gem recommendations from both of us in the episode, just in time for Halloween. And if you really want to check out that original recording, you can still find it exclusively at MovieBonerz.com, just search "horror" at the top. Dustin gives his spoiler-free first impressions of The Creator, Slice, and As Above, So Below (FINALLY)!! Jake has only seen the first episode of The Continental and Love is Blind Season 5. It's a trope as old as time, and one that's evolved with each generation. This episode we each share our ten favorite final girls and discuss what the exact qualifications need to be. Must she be a virgin? Does the character really need to be in a horror movie? We push the boundaries as always, and Jake forgets which girl in Psycho dies in the famous shower scene (how embarrassing). Jake gives first impressions on Talk to Me and Hell House L.L.C. Dustin shares initial thoughts on The Nun 2, Pearl, and three Art the Clown movies: All Hallows Eve, Terrifier, and Terrifier 2. The boys also give an exclusive review of the indie short film SALAMANDER. Check out Elevator Pictures on YouTube and Instagram for when it's available publicly! Rian Johnson's earliest stuff was so creative and interesting, so we revisit his first, independent, low-budget high school noir detective story: Brick. Before Knives Out, and before The Last Jedi, he had a log of strengths, and this movie (along with Looper) proves it. We spoil and discuss every aspect of "Brick" so be sure to check it out! Dustin gives his first impressions of Blue Beetle. Jake gives thoughts on Barbie, Boston Strangler, season one of Heels, and You Are So NOT Invited to My Bat Mitzvah! One of the most fun episodes to prepare for, we've been watching our favorite B-movies for the last couple weeks and can't wait to share our offical top 10 with you! We also give some of the history, the original intent of the "genre" (if you can call it that), and discuss why it's become sorta hard to define but you know it when you see it. With such a wide category, I'm sure we missed some great ones, so let us know your favorites as well! Jake shares two very sad movie draft announcements (if you're him) and gives a spoiler-free review of No Hard Feelings. Dustin reviews Velocipastor, Talk to Me, and The Last Voyage of the Demeter. It is extremely rare for a sequel that seems unnecessary on the surface to completely blow away its predecessor. This time we focus more on the movie than real world events, as we explore both the beauty and thematic depth that is Blade Runner 2049. We imagine if Ridley Scott had made it and wonder how you make a perfect movie better. We're really enjoying this new conversational format for our movie dissection episodes, and I think this one flows especially well. Let us know what you think, or if you prefer the scene-by-scene breakdowns we've done before! Jake also gives spoiler-free reviews of Succession Season 4 and Oppenheimer. We also have an interesting discussion of the inevitable Mattel Cinematic Universe, and how Wishbone (the dog that loves classic literature) should be their Iron Man. Blade Runner is a fascinating and fantastic film that wasn't appreciated in the time it came out. Interestingly, there was a big actors strike when production began as well. We try a new format this episode, let us know what you think! We still talk about the deep themes, fan theories and of course spoilers around this cult classic turned sci-fi staple. But we also blaze new trails discussing the present threat of AI, the writers and actors strikes and their most valid concerns, and how Blade Runner, like many science fiction dystopian stories, warned us of a future that we're willingly edging closer to. Reach out and let us know what you think, any major connections we missed between the movie and the real world, and what your preferred version of the film is! Also, be sure to watch Blade Runner 2049 before next episode as we take everything a step further. Jake also gives quick reviews of Muscles & Mayhem (The American Gladiators docuseries), Attack of the Doc, and Nope. Dustin gives spoiler-free reviews of The Strays, Oppenheimer, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1, and The Exorcist: Believer trailer. This episode we imagine what if it was possible to watch a movie you've already seen for the first time again. If it was possible, which ten movies would we be most excited to do that with? We get a little (okay a lot) sidetracked reminiscing about the good old days and sound like old men basking in nostalgia. Our reasons span the gambit, ranging from our first viewing being ruined to the first viewing being special and magnificent. Also Jake gives quick reviews for "Black Mirror" Season 6, "Beau is Afraid" (finally), "Maggie Moore(s)", and "Succession" Season 3. Dustin reviews "Run Rabbit Run" and "Living." Let us know your thoughts! Are there movies you loved the first viewing of, or perhaps the first time was flubbed and you'd like a do-over? With "Dead Reckoning - Part 1" just a week away, we have rewatched all six previous movies so we can give you everything you need to know. Sure this episode is 4 hours long, but we save you from watching almost 13 hours. We cover all the important characters and plot points, the differences in each movie and of course all the amazing set piece stunts that the franchise is known for. Dustin gives quick reviews for Asteroid City, Arnold, No Hard Feelings, and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Jake reviews From season 2 finale and Succession season 2. This week we look forward to Dial of Destiny coming out if for no other reason than it being the end of one of our favorite childhood franchises. To do that we revisit all four previous movies, yes including Kingdom of the Crystal Skull despite it previously being Jake's most hated movie from our Bottom 10 episode . I believe the phrase was "it's dead to me." Has time breathed new life into it? Find out. We also try to understand why the character is so iconic if there's only been 5 movie in over 40 years. Unfortunately, for the first time in 114 episodes, we forgot to hit record at the beginning. But even though you miss the draft check-in and beers and stuff, thankfully you don't miss any the good Doctor Jones and his adventures. In this episode, the boys share their top ten favorite original film scores of all time. They intentionally share the love with a ton of different composers and styles, but there is of course a undeniable presense of the legend, their favorite: Hans Zimmer. Dustin gets into some deeper personal themes the music evokes, and Jake goes on another long Star Wars rant (at least it's been awhile). The guys also unexpectedly defend SKA music, of all things. Dustin gains ground in the Movie Draft with Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse coming out! He also gives quick reviews for Fast X, Air, The Mother, Brigsby Bear, and Extraction. Jake gives his review of Paint and reminds people (again) that they need to watch the horror-mystery series "From" which is incredible. Tommy Wiseau has described "The Room" as an onion, with many layers, and you need to watch it 100 times in order to fully understand it. We put that to the test this week as we struggle to understand what's commonly described as the best bad movie ever made. More over, we explore the mystery and mythology of Tommy himself. We also try to discuss "The Disaster Artist" in depth, since it's based on the book about the making of "The Room," but only scratch the surface. It's a wild and hilarious ride (seriously, we break down crying from laughter at one point). We also of course do terrible Tommy impressions, sorry in advance. We present our new summer merch, which we're very excited about. We complain about the terrible CGI fish in "The Little Mermaid" for a bit. Also Jake gives quick reviews of Dungeons & Dragons, Silo on Apple TV, and the old Dick Van Dyke Show. On this Mother's Day, we discuss what makes a good mom by highlighting the best moms in film. Moms are magical people who make great sacrifices and efforts for us. At the same time, they're very common. Everyone's got one, to varying degrees. For that reason they can be overlooked or taken for granted. But to make a movie character a mom completely changes the dynamic of the film, and adds instant weight and background that the audience connects with. We also discuss the writer's guild strike a bit, and Dustin gives a very shocking review of "Beau is Afraid." It may be pretty shocking that two movie nerds like us have never seen what is proclaimed to be one of the all time greatest films, because we're pretty shocked ourselves. Everyone's got one. This episode we each admit to over ten of our biggest movie crushes. The kinds of crushes you develop as a youngster and that stay with you for a lifetime. And yes, a few are animated, and at least one isn't even human (and it's probably not the one you're thinking of). Fair warning, we both happen to pick only lady characters in this episode. We have watched TENET several times over the last couple weeks and think we finally fully understand it! Though it comes at a cost because Jake's memory fails him more than once, and struggles to describe the car chase. This may be an episode you want to watch the video version of on YouTube or Spotify, because we use a lot of hand gestures to try to get our point across.
