Struggling mortgage professionals tend to blame external factors for their stagnation, but sometimes the culprit is a lot closer to them. Even with the best intentions, the highest level of potential, and the biggest dreams, there are still certain hidden obstacles that we can’t outrun or outperform until they are dealt with. These obstacles secretly suck the life out of our ability to achieve our full potential, and even the most talented people can become victims of them. How can we get rid of these insidious barriers to success? What practical steps can we take to make sure we’re equipped to soar? In this episode, I talk about three things that might be holding us back without our knowledge. Replace delusional optimism with clear-headed accurate thinking. -Doren Aldana Takeaways Why fear does nothing to protect us from risk: Human beings are naturally designed to look out for danger, so it seems wise to focus on fear and keep a watchful eye on risks. The problem is when we focus on fear, we expand the things we actually don’t want. What should we focus on instead? How delusional optimism perpetuates our problems:Delusional optimism is when we expect things to get better without actually making any changes to aid the situation. How can we take action ourselves to pull our business out of stagnation? What our terror barrier tells us about ourselves:Our comfort zone encircles our life and the current results we have. Stepping out of that will inevitably feel scary, uncomfortable, and unfamiliar. That doesn’t mean we’re doing something wrong, it actually means something good is happening. How can we use it to create the life we want?

As business owners, it is absolutely crucial that we create clients and customers. After all, if nobody is buying your products or services, then you don’t have a business - you have a hobby. So, how do you consistently create clients and customers so your business is constantly growing and, more importantly, thriving? In today’s episode, I share the five hidden obstacles that are getting in your way of creating clients and customers for your business. I explain the difference between a paying client and someone simply researching your service or offer. I discuss the importance of getting to know yourself before trying to identify your ideal client and how your own impostor syndrome could be standing in your way of successfully attracting your ideal clients. I also share how your money mindset and grit impact your ability to create clients and customers for your business. “You need to be the creator of your business. In this episode, Jeff discusses his new book, how he got into the customer service field, why he firmly believes providing great customer service isn’t just a matter of using common sense, why customer service leaders shouldn’t be dismissive of angry customers, how customers sabotage the service they receive, a breakdown of the “Zone of Hospitality,” and more!
Shep Hyken interviews Jeff Toister. They discuss his book, Getting Service Right: Overcoming the Hidden Obstacles to Outstanding Customer Service, and Jeff offers immediately applicable advice on how to improve your customer service. In Shep’s Opening Monologue... He discusses the importance of caring for your employees so they can better care for your customers. The Interview with Jeff Toister:It’s difficult to not take angry customers personally. The instinct is either fight or flight, neither of which is helpful in a customer service situation. The key is to recognize this instinct, take a pause and a breath, and choose to respond in a different way.Employees are trained to jump straight into offering solutions to angry customers rather than focusing on the emotions at play. Often, angry customers need to vent first. Once they’ve calmed down, they will be more receptive to your ideas for solutions to their problem.Transform your approach from an adversarial stance to the mindset of a partner. If you approach the problem with the customer as a team, they won’t be on the defensive and will be more open to potential solutions.Organization leaders and executives usually don’t spend much time dealing with customers and can therefore be out of touch with their company’s quality of customer service. They may make the mistake of assuming that customer service is both easy and common sense, which it isn’t.People assume that customer service is getting worse when in reality, it’s getting better. The issue is that “good” customer service is what’s expected, and people remember negative experiences more because it’s a deviation from the expectation. When you witness an employee fall short of an expectation, don’t jump straight to conclusions and solutions. Instead, ask “why?” and suspend judgement. Have a conversation with the employee and involve them in problem solving for the present and the future.Quote: “Great customer service leaders make it easy for their employees to deliver great service.” - Jeff Toister About: Jeff Toister is a top customer service and experience influencer and the author of three customer service books. The Love, Happiness and Success Podcast With Dr. Lisa Marie Bobby
Do you know what's standing between you and the life you want? Really? As a life coach and therapist I regularly meet with clients who show up for counseling or coaching, certain that they know what their problem is, and what needs to be done to fix it. Aaannnddd.... the next phase of the work in counseling or coaching is often helping people go further, and dig deeper to understand what the true source of "the problem" really is. (Hint: It is almost never what you think it is). Once that is revealed, we can then move to creating action-oriented strategies that will create meaningful and lasting change. They go from feeling stuck, and like they're just spinning their wheels as they ineffectively chasing after what they think is the solution to the problem, to feeling like they are actually making progress. But the first step is truly self-awareness. If you don't know what's really getting in your way, you can't possibly fix it. Can you relate? If so, you're in luck: Today on the Love, Happiness and Success Podcast I'm walking you through an activity that will raise your self-awareness, and help you "get under the hood" of your inner experience. You'll learn some new things about yourself AND get direction for how to start making changes. Here's to growth! Dr. Lisa Marie Bobby
My book reflection of Trap Tales - Outsmarting the 7 Hidden Obstacles to Success. These include The relationship trap, the money trap, the focus trap, the change trap, the learning trap, the career trap, and the purpose trap. Have a listen to my full review here.
