Day 49--The Road of Hope--What's Next?
This final sermon from the book of Malachi is about hope. Hope is something we can't live without. Hope gives us reason to endure. Hope lifts our eyes beyond the shadows to the dawning of the light. And as the Book of Malachi draws to a close, it ends with a wonderous vision of hope. There's been a lot of tough love in this book. God doesn't pull His punches as He disciplines His beloved children. But His final word is full of tender mercies; He leaves hope ringing in their ears. Because hope breathes courage into our timid souls. 1) The Sun of Hope In the Great and Awesome Day of the Lord, four things will happen: Evil will be vanquished forever; the earth will be banned, purged with fire; then upon the scorched ashes of the world that was, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings; and the righteous shall inherit the earth, set loose like bounding calves into the wide world of the New Creation. One day the darkness will be way to the dawn. This really is what the story of the Bible is all about. The Bible helps us see the profound depths of the darkness, because it also holds out resplendent heights of hope for the dawning of the light. The Bible helps us see the darkness of the crucifixion in resurrection light. And one day, the darkness will give way to the dawn. And healing shall come to all creation with the rising of the Sun of Hope. 2) The Soil of Hope What difference does it make when this hope falls upon the soil of your life? When this hope rains down and sinks in how does it change us? Endurance grows in the soil watered with hope. Hope helps us look back to remember Whose we are. Hope helps us look ahead to all that God has promised us. Hope helps us look beyond to the glories that await us. 3) The Seed of Hope All throughout the Bible, God is sowing this seed of hope of the world one day set to rights. These promises are sown in hope all over the Scriptures. But the greatest seed of hope is found in Jesus Himself. Because in Jesus' death and resurrection, we get a preview of what will one day happen to us and to all of creation. Jesus is a microcosm of new creation hope. He's a mini cosmos: Jesus is the firstborn of all creation; and he's the firstborn from the dead. Takeaway: “Behold, I am coming soon. Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!”

“Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.” -Andy Dufresne (Shawshank Redemption) If we don't have hope in our lives, then what do we have and what are we living for? Welcome to Blended! This is a brand new show for Let's Talk Supply Chain and it's going to be a little bit different to what you've heard before. We talk a lot about the challenges facing our industry as a whole – changing technology, network complexity, surprises like COVID-19 – but what we don't talk as much about is the people. The people that really drive our industry forward. And specifically, the under-represented people in our industry. I've been flying the flag for women in supply chain for a few years now, through the podcast and some of my other endeavors, but Blended is going to go much further than that. Because it's not just women who are a minority – we need to be thinking about the LGBTQIA community, people of color, those with disabilities, whether they're visible or hidden. As minorities, we need to join together to support each other and be each other's allies - to ensure we ALL have a seat at the table to make our industry the absolute best it can be. Today in Episode 1, ‘What's in a Name,' we're going to be talking all about the language we use when discussing minorities – what do these words mean to us, and to others; are there right or wrong words to use, and what are the subtexts of those words; and what does diversity, inclusion and identity mean to us. IN THIS EPISODE WE DISCUSS: [03.29] Introductions to our Blended panelists. Prakash M Radhakrishnan – Courier Operations at Toll and award-winning YouTube producer with a focus on disability and mental health. Holly Qualman – VP of Marketing and Client Solutions America for Apex Logistics and adopted Korean-American woman, flying the flag for multi-racial unity. Matthew Hernandez – General Manger for North America at Xenata and representative of both the LatinX and LGBTQIA communities. Hope White – Founder and CEO of HD White Logistics, Founder of Hope White Consulting and Logistically Speaking Online and proud black woman. Greg White – Founder of Blue Ridge Global, host of Supply Chain Now and father of daughters, with native American heritage. [11.23] The word ‘minority' and its connotations. “It's time to think about the world on a global scale.” Greg. Is it a beneficial or derogatory term? Does it perpetuate the feeling of being ‘other' or ‘less than,' since its technical definition is less than half the whole? How does the insistence on labelling people affect mental health and self-esteem? How does being a minority affect your goals and ambitions – are they personal to you, or are they developed so you can conform to a societal norm? Are we designed to keep each other at arm's length; is the tendency towards segregation a result of evolution – how do we push the reset button on human nature? Are labels necessary at all, or are we all just people? “It's another stage of evolution – before we develop the language for it, we need to understand how we got here.” Matthew. [33.20] What words should we be using specifically for the disability community? “There's no rulebook – and the disability community feel the same.” Prakash [36.10] The impact of upbringing. Why the way that we're raised is so vital – prejudice is learnt, or tackled, at an early age. Why we need to support everyone to succeed, and make sure that those at a disadvantage get equal if not greater support. The danger in not taking on board peoples experiences and viewpoints because of preconceptions. How the use of incorrect labels muddies the water and creates confusion. Assumption is ignorance: the importance of being able to continue to interpret and learn. [44.12] What words should we be using specifically for the LGBTQIA community and people of color? Why it's important to take the time to listen. How some words have traditionally been used to separate minorities and make them ‘an other.' Why education is so important. [55.28] The importance of identity. “It's not what you're called, it's what you answer to.” Hope Why we all need to be in charge of our own identities. How descriptors have changed over time and the impact that those changes have had. Why it's OK to ask, as long as you're asking for the right reason. Why we need to pay attention to the nuances of individual identities. The responsibility of minorities to educate others. The importance of open and honest conversations, that come from a place of empathy and understanding. [69.09] Today's buzzwords: diversity and inclusion. So many of us minorities have to jump through so many hoops just to get a small slither of the pie.” Hope What do these words mean to us? Can you have one without the other? How the meaning of diversity and inclusion can be influenced by how we're raised, or what we're exposed to on a long-term basis. Why diversity and inclusion also need to include processes to build the foundations for education and understanding and promoting acceptance. Often in the corporate world, we know there's a problem, but we very seldom have the opportunity to talk about it openly.” Matthew [80.16] Our summaries of ‘what's in a name.' Keep an open mind – Holly Everyone has a story – Hope Don't be scared to ask the question – Prakash Take some time to self-reflect – Matthew Seek first to understand – Greg

“And now faith, hope and love abide, these three…” (1 Cor 13:13) Faith and Love often get discussed at length— but what about Hope? What is Hope? When do we need hope? How can we find Hope? Melanie Poturica elaborates on Hope as a Faith tool and considers answers to these questions. Hope means to find a deep faith and love in God through the first commandment, but why is so much of Hope rooted in and for the future? What if we could find our hope in God, Faith and love in the now, by taking one day at a time?
If you’re afraid of change — either the fear of changing or being afraid not to change — today’s episode will equip and empower you for change…GROWTH. There’s nothing greater than growth. Does it always feel or look great? Nope. Absolutely not. But as long as we’re growing, we're living fully. What is it that YOU desire…to change? Once you’ve done the EDIT For Change (EPISODE 121)…now you can see and hear clearly. Last week I did a LIVEINAR on Getting Clear Before The New Year where I did a full training on getting clear about desires, and creating change using the CHECKLIST FOR CHANGE. However, whenever you’re listening to this podcast, THE DAY to get crystal clear is TODAY. Start today. Look at what you desire and then commit to creating it. I’ve created a CHECKLIST FOR CHANGE to help you do that. You can download it here. It’s a proven, effective strategy for maximizing your growth, getting crystal clear about your desire, as well as how to create it. It'll provide a framework that’ll help you lay it out for yourself. Picture a hashtag or old-school tic-tac-toe. These 9 areas of focus can CHANGE everything! It’s about getting back to the basics! Download your CHECKLIST FOR CHANGE and begin to answer these questions WHY? The answer is "change." Yes, I believe you desire CHANGE. Hope? What's your HOPE (belief, desire, trust) for change? Commitment? What's the COMMITMENT you're making today? Are you committed to CREATING CHANGE? Engage? Where are your putting your energy, attention, and time? Aware? Are you AWARE of what it's going to take to create your change? Ask the necessary questions so you KNOW exactly what's required. Date? What's your DATE for change? Now and in the future. Love? Are you willing to direct the powerful creative force of LOVE towards creating the life and life's work that you LOVE? Actions? What two ACTIONS are you taking right NOW, as well as NEXT? Please let me know what CHANGE your COMMITTED to CREATING... Thank you for being here, and allowing me to sip on life with you. Amber and Brady Black are a married couple currently living in Beirut, Lebanon, and they are a true inspiration. Having grown up and met, in the United States, they decided to move to the Middle East to teach. The first five years abroad were not easy, and Amber found herself fighting depression, which she courageously shares about in our interview. After some discussion, they decided that they needed to leave the gulf region. In a series of synchronous events, a friend of a friend mentioned that there was an opening at "Home Of Hope" in Beirut, which is a home for abandoned and abused children in Lebanon. Amber and Brady went for a visit, and knew in their hearts that they had to teach there. Brady had been interested in art in his younger years, and returned to it when things had gotten hard; in drawing whimsical art for a friend who wanted note cards to put in her children's lunches, something magical was born. Brady realized he had an outlet for his creativity, and it tapped into the imagination of the children and parents that saw it. When more requests came for note cards, Amber and Brady realized they had the beginnings of a business, one that brought joy to them and others, brought more purpose them as a couple, and helped Amber feel a sense of belonging and connection as she came out of her depression. Joy and love is the through-line for Amber and Brady's work at Home of Hope, Lebanon, as well. They work with children who have been abandoned, abused, that are refugees, who have been on the streets, some have been involved in prostitution. At the Home, Amber and Brady teach the children, but it becomes so clear in the interview, they also meet each of these children right where they are, provide a consistent presence in their lives, and love them. I adored getting to know Amber and Brady - they are funny, passionate, open, and so dedicated to both Serious Creatures and Home of Hope. I loved hearing about how Brady's passion for drawing and imagination truly changed their lives, and how both of them said "yes" to starting a business when the idea presented itself. And, I loved hearing about how much they love working with the kids in Beirut. I know you'll enjoy getting to know them, too. In this interview we talk about: - How Amber and Brady met at college, and have "been married every since" - What it was like to move to Oman from Texas - How Amber faced depression when she moved to Oman, and how she felt culturally isolated - How art, imagination, and hope changed their lives, and started a company - How Serious Creatures got it's name (hint: there's some Harry Potter magic involved!) - The way they were introduced to Home of Hope - What it's like to teach children of various ages and various levels of educational background - How they strike a balance of taking care of themselves while working with children from difficult backgrounds - Their kickstarter with Serious Creatures (Serious Starters) - What it was like for Brady to see children reacting to his art for the first time - What's next for them and Serious Creatures Resources Serious Creatures Website Serious Creatures sign up page to learn about their after Thanksgiving sale Serious Creatures Instagram Serious Creatures Kickstarter Home of Hope Lebanon Facebook page The post Episode 11: Hope, Love, and Serious Creatures with Amber and Brady Black appeared first on Jump Start Your Joy.
Today we are diving into our last message in our series, “THE ANCHOR” (The HOPE we have because of Jesus…) We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure…Hebrews 6:19 (NIV) Hope = Confident expectation based on something solid “My hope is built on nothing less… than Jesus' blood and righteousness.” Maybe today you walked in, HOPELESS… If that's you today, look around you, stop and ask someone to share their story. Recap: What is HOPE? / Where does HOPE come from? / HOPE for my future Our number one prayer for you is this… that you latch onto this HOPE we have in Jesus. HOPE that keeps us standing, when the entire world is shaken…HOPE that never fails. Because of this HOPE… we are anchored, secure… May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13 (NIV) Transition: Today we will look at our final thought on HOPE… What some call, THE BLESED HOPE…The ultimate hope that there really is something beyond this life. (Pray) Story/Illustration: Transition: You see, the hope we have is not solely to get through this life… but it's hope NOW that there is another level of HOPE… Heaven. With as much HOPE as we have now, we still face things… hard times, difficulties, obstacles. (My Season of ministry… “Why can't I find balance?” “Because this isn't home.”) We will have seasons of pain/suffering/frustration… and we learned a couple weeks ago that that is part of God's process of producing HOPE in us. 3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope… Romans 5:2-4 (ESV) The ultimate HOPE we have is that this life is NOT all there is… there is an eternity of JOY and PEACE that awaits us! 11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ… Titus 2:11-13 (NIV) (Eternal life) We have to change our focus… from just finding hope in this life, to living our life in light of our eternal hope…(Peoples efforts to find hope HERE) Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-15 (NIV) The HOPE of Jesus is what has caused “Death to lose it's Sting”…(1 cor. 15:55) 6 As for me, my life has already been poured out as an offering to God. The time of my death is near. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. 8 And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:6-8 (NLT) At the end of your life… and everyday… THIS is the goal (James… your life is but a vapor) Heaven is a reality we need to live in… But there are a lot of misconceptions of Heave; Clouds, robes, halos Never ending church service (singing forever) Celestial retirement home So unreal… Transition: But what does the bible say about Heaven? Heaven is a REAL place Revelation 21… talks all about the city of Heaven, New Jerusalem. 1400 miles in every direction / walls 200 ft. thick of solid jasper / 12 gates made from a single pearl / transparent streets of gold… amazing! My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. John 14:2-3 (NIV) Heaven is a RIGHT place Think about every wrong with this life… your life… And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God's dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death' or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Revelation 21:3-5 (NIV) No pain, disappointment, insecurity, loss of innocence, worry, fear, bills, sickness... Heaven is a RELATIONAL place A place where you will see your loved ones who walked with Jesus… (Those who didn't?) For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:17-18 (NIV) Heaven is a REWARDING place “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. Revelation 22:12 (NKJV) Transition: That's great that we have that to look forward to, but how do we have ETERNAL HOPE… Now? Remove Your Doubt I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. John 14:6 (NLT) Replace Your Anxiety So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV) Refocus Your Energy When we truly understand heaven… we will live different. Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2 (NKJV) Big Idea: Hope is not some elusive idea or feeling that we are always chasing... Hope is not some cliche that hangs on our walls... Hope is real... tangible... available. Challenge: If we will commit to these 4 areas... Not only will we find supernatural levels of HOPE in our lives, but God will use us to carry that HOPE into our world... Where are you this morning? Salvation?

Speaker: Sam Haddon – Living Hope – Week 3: Object of Hope What are you waiting for? In this message we’ll explore the questions, What is the ultimate Christian Hope? What hope is there for change, rescue, transformation and new possibilities in the world around us? As long as we see Christian hope as a place to go when we die – the two are unrelated. If not, radical new imperatives begin to emerge for the church in the world.
