I know I'm not the only one disturbed by the scenes of Donald Trump and J.D. Vance publicly dressing down Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the White House. I was saddened and sickened by the bullying behaviour of those entrusted to know and be a whole lot better than that. The lack of empathy, the attempts to humiliate and intimidate, and the smirking childish arrogance was embarrassing to witness. Especially from individuals holding the highest positions of political leadership and responsibility. It presents us with a question. Do we accept it? Does it reflect the world we want to create together? https://youtu.be/lKk-Fp_nqaE The Ripple Effect of Bullying This kind of bullying affects not only its direct targets but also those who witness it. Many people felt the sting of observing that incident for various reasons. So, how ought we respond when we see and hear things like this, which might have particular personal resonance for those who have been on the receiving end of power abuses themselves? Growing up, I was taught that bullies tend to operate from a place of insecurity. They mask their inferiority with a facade of superiority. The hypocrisy in the accusations about disrespect struck me. It's a classic charge from someone who feels insecure. They questioned Zelensky's clothes—a choice he has openly described as a show of solidarity with fellow Ukrainians during wartime. In doing so, they displayed ignorance, wilful or otherwise, of the traumatic reality his country had thrust upon it from an invading force. Bullies don't respect the humanity of others. They smirk, berate, and belittle rather than empathise, understand, and connect. Encountering Bullying Many of us have encountered or witnessed bullying in different areas of life—a boss who publicly humiliates or undermines an employee, someone who sabotages others by withholding critical information or setting them up for failure, or a family member who uses emotional blackmail or guilt to coerce and manipulate. The dynamics are strikingly similar. A pathological need to dominate, a pattern of intentionally misrepresenting someone's words, obsessively pulling apart everything someone does, and active enjoyment from causing a person harm or distress. Arrogance or Confidence A bully arrogantly attempts to humiliate and intimidate. This is not a show of strength but a reflection of deep-seated insecurity and weakness. This reflects a distinction we might make between arrogance and confidence. Arrogance, as I see it, is insecurity dressed up as superiority. It's the need to dominate, to belittle, and to control. Confidence, on the other hand, is secure in who it is and the path it's on. It doesn't need to tear others down to feel strong. Responding To The Quiet Rage This incident stirred a quiet rage within me. Something was disturbing about watching a leader like Zelensky, who had shown immense courage and grace in the face of Russia's invasion, be treated with such disdain and disrespect. So, what do we do when we witness events like this? It's easy to get caught up in the emotion and stay there. But it's more important to pause, process, and channel those feelings into constructive actions. Acknowledge Your Emotions: Feeling angry, sad, or disappointed is okay. Express the energy of those feelings in non-destructive ways—scream across the sea if you need to, take it out on a drum kit, exercise your body, or throw something. Connect with Others: Seek out people who share your values and can offer emotional support. Temporary venting and ranting with people you trust can provide healing catharsis, as long as everyone is comfortable with it! Turn Pain into Active Hope: I spoke with Cindy Gale, who shared a framework for processing thoughts and feelings in a changing world. The four stages—gratitude, Honouring Our Pain, Seeing with New Eyes, and Going Forth—can guide us toward constructive action...

It's Lisa Bilyeu here with a truly BEAUTIFUL episode of Women of Impact for you that will actually change the way you perceive & judge your emotions and how you “deal” with them. Today I'm joined by the unbelievable Dr. Anita Phillips, a trauma therapist and mental health expert that is SO DAMN GOOD at empowering women like you to actually find safety in your body and your emotions again.  Dr. Anita gets SOOO real and honest with her incredible insights into WHY we deny our emotions so much and how this has a knock on effect to our confidence.  The reality is, your emotions are not your enemy – they are actually bodily experiences that INFORM your thinking (not the other way around)!! We also dive into: - How to turn your pain into power (especially after a heartbreak, or when you feel lost or been betrayed!) - How your emotions are like hunger pains & what happens when you ignore them - Why we negotiate pain & how that, PLUS the fear of the future, holds us back - The POWER that comes from sitting with your “WHAT IFs” instead of ignoring them - Why you MUST experience the pain or it will never leave you (and will actually multiply!) - How confidence is faithfulness to yourself  - Why we need love, hope and faith or we will experience a lot of sadness, anger and fear And that's just what we cover in part 1 of this 2 part episode! Dr. Anita has SOOO many amazing experiences and insights to share, so you can stop living in your fears and start to be more powerful and confident in your life.  Be sure to get a copy of her book “The Garden Within” here: https://www.anitaphillips.com/book Follow Dr. Anita: Website: https://www.anitaphillips.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dranitaphillips YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@DrAnitaPhillips/ Order “The Garden Within”: https://www.anitaphillips.com/book Follow Me, Lisa Bilyeu:  Website: https://www.radicalconfidence.com/  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lisabilyeu/  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/lisabilyeu  X: https://twitter.com/lisabilyeu  If you want to dive deeper into my content, search through every episode, find specific topics I've covered, and ask me questions. Creating Wellness From Within is a podcast devoted to empowering you to live your best life by taking accountability for your own personal wellness … brought to you in part by Integrated Health Systems located in Denver, CO. Women in particular have a tendency to take care of everyone else around them first, while putting their own self care and wellness on the back burner. This podcast is designed to give you actionable advice and tools to help you power up your own wellness journey, and live the best life possible!I am your host, Amy Zellmer. I am editor-in-chief of MN YOGA + Life magazine and author of The Chair Yoga Pocket Guide. Additionally I am passionate about yoga, photography, wellness, and all things glittery! You can find out more about me at www.creatingwellnessfromwithin.comFollow me on: Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter         Today's guest is:  Gracie LynnGracie Lynne was not a born writer; she was a writer born out of adversity. Although she had two degrees, she never considered writing to be a probable vocation. Her first writing that gained notoriety was that of Christmas letters. She would write these from her children's point of view, with a flair for humor.  When her children were young her marriage ended. Gracie sought comfort in her church and began writing plays for a single's ministry. That is when God put a calling on her life to become a Christian author.  While continuing to work as a registered nurse, Gracie moonlighted as an aspiring author. After eighteen years of hard work, The Shattered Vase was released. This debut novel was nominated for best Christian fiction in the Christian Literary Awards and won the Firebird award. Gracie is not only an award-winning author but also a landlord, Bible study leader, volunteer, and an actress. She has raised three amazing children, as a single mother, and is now overjoyed to be a grandmother. Gracie would like to acknowledge that without God, The Shattered Vase could have never been written. This is His story much more than it is hers. www.theshatteredvase.com Consider supporting the podcast for $5 though BuyMeACoffeeSupport the show
