This Music Monday episode of Big Blend Radio features Northern California guitarist/singer/songwriter Piet Dalmolen discusses his long-awaited debut album TIME STANDS STILL. Boasting eight eclectic compositions, this talisman resonates through an ambitious amalgam of sublime psychedelic rock, soulful jazzy blues, and indie-Americana. Bobbing and weaving amidst the foundational chemistry of bass, drums, and various keyboards, Piet's superb guitar and understated vocals coalesce to create a dense, potent vessel of joy and vulnerability. The album also features Matt Engel on keyboards, Tommy Fitzmaurice on drums, and Ian Taylor on bass, An influential trip to Maui resulted in most of the music heard on TIME STANDS STILL. This intentional collection reveals a reluctant poet reawakened, mining inspiration from life's trials and tribulations, and discovering knowledge of self amid the glorious environs of sacred Hawaiian Islands. This time of the year lots of us will be setting new goals for the future. Be it getting fitter, reading more or even writing that novel we always suspected we had in us. But why do so many of us fail to see these plans through? In this episode, we catch up Dr Ian Taylor a reader in motivational science based at Loughborough University. He tells us why we are prone to setting goals that are too ambitious and why starting small is usually the best approach, why we shouldn't worry if our routine drops off now and again, and why simply having willpower isn't the be all and end all of reaching your targets, whatever they are. ILE Solutions: Embracing Our Legacy, Building the Future At ILE Solutions, we are proud to announce an exciting new chapter in our journey: the return to the name that has always embodied our core values and vision. After a period operating as “The Intelligent Collective,” we are embracing our original identity as ILE Solutions—a name synonymous with quality, professionalism, and trust in the commercial fit-out sector. This decision reflects more than a rebranding; it is a reaffirmation of who we are and what we stand for. Why We're Returning to ILE Solutions The move back to ILE Solutions was driven by what our clients and partners have told us time and again: ILE Solutions resonates deeply with the industry and reflects the high standards and reliability they expect from us. While The Intelligent Collective aimed to position us as a multifaceted provider, the ILE Solutions name remained a cornerstone of our identity. Our founder, Ian Taylor, puts it best: “ILE is in our DNA. It's who we are and what our clients trust us for. This return allows us to focus on what we do best—blinds, curtains, and acoustic solutions—while staying true to the principles that have driven our success for over a decade.” Our Culture: The Hive Mindset At the heart of ILE Solutions is a culture of collaboration, which we call “The Hive.” This mindset reflects the way we work—together, as a team, and always with a shared purpose. Whether it's within our office or on-site with clients, we aim to foster an environment of support, openness, and creativity. Our team is our greatest strength. We encourage every individual to take ownership of their work, innovate, and grow. This philosophy doesn't just benefit our team; it extends to our clients, who experience the full breadth of our collaborative and solution-focused approach. Precision, Sustainability, and Integrity in Action ILE Solutions is built on a foundation of precision and integrity. Our projects are executed with meticulous attention to detail because we know that even the smallest measurements matter. From planning to installation, we are committed to delivering exceptional quality that exceeds expectations. Sustainability remains a key priority in everything we do. We work to minimize waste, optimize designs, and ensure that every project is as environmentally responsible as possible. By advising clients on smart, sustainable choices, we help them achieve their goals without compromising budgets or quality. Adapting to Grow Stronger The return to the ILE Solutions name is a reflection of our ability to adapt and learn. It's not about looking back—it's about moving forward with clarity and purpose. As Ian Taylor explains, “This decision is a positive step forward. It reflects our commitment to continuous improvement, whether it's in the way we deliver projects, the relationships we build with clients, or the culture we cultivate within our team. We're always striving to be better, year after year.” A Vision for the Future The ILE Solutions name represents a legacy of excellence, but it also signifies our ambitions for the future. We remain committed to being a trusted partner for main contractors, architects, and designers in the commercial fit-out sector, delivering tailored solutions that harmonize functionality and aesthetics. Our focus remains unwavering: enhancing the spaces where people work, collaborate, and thrive through expertly installed blinds, curtains, and acoustic solutions. By returning to ILE Solutions, we are not just reclaiming our name—we are reinforcing the values that make us who we are. We look forward to continuing this journey with our clients and partners, building on a foundation of trust, innovation, and excellence. ILE Solutions: Reclaiming Our Name. Refining Our Future.

On September 12th Topps announced a new partnership with Disney to create physical cards for Disney, Pixar and Marvel globally starting in 2025. Currently Upper Deck has had some of those rights in the U.S. Starting with Topps Finest X-Men '97 in Q1 2025, it will be a new era for Marvel cards, as well as a larger number of IP's under the Fanatics roof. Although the impact for Star Wars card collectors may not be seen, a lot of this change affects the hobby around us. New Zealand introducing a capital gains tax is back in the spotlight following the release of the bombshell IRD report. Sir Ian Taylor has voiced support for a capital gains tax and reckons other business people he knows would be happy to pay one. He explained that a capital gains tax would help cover the significant costs New Zealand faces in terms of health, education and infrastructure. "That's how businesses operate. We took risks, there were times where things looked really tough, but we got through those. But equally, if I come out the end of this and somebody ended up buying this- which isn't the intention- but if they did, I would fully expect that there would be a margin." While the headlines coming out of London this week may have been related to politics, scandal, and upheaval at 10 Downing Street, financial regulators have been hard at work the last few months providing consultations, reports, responses, and guidance or issues related to cryptocurrency. Ari Redbord sat down to talk discuss UK crypto regulation James Gillespie, Policy Advisor, Sanctions & Illicit Finance at HM Treasury and Ian Taylor, Executive Director at CryptoUK. According to a comprehensive plan to make the U.K. a global cryptocurrency hub issued in April 2022, we are going to see: Stablecoins brought within regulation, paving the way for their use as a recognised form of payment in the UK The introduction of a ‘financial market infrastructure sandbox' to enable firms to experiment and innovate The establishment of a Cryptoasset Engagement Group to work more closely with the industry An exploration of ways to enhance the competitiveness of the UK tax system to encourage further development of the cryptoasset market And work with the Royal Mint to create a Non-Fungible Token (NFT) in summer 2022 as an emblem of the forward-looking approach the UK is determined to take As discussed in this episode of TRM Talks, it is critical for the UK to ensure that its approach remains joined up and doesn't fall victim to the tradeoff between growth of the crypto ecosystem and stability. With that being said, keep an eye out for potential updates in this space in the upcoming Chancellor's speech later this summer. This podcast is hosted by TRM Labs, a blockchain analytics company. We work with crypto businesses, financial institutions and government agencies to monitor, detect and investigate fraud and financial crime in crypto. Don't miss this fascinating interview with Henry Mc Donald talking to top architect, Dr Joe Jack Williams, whose specialism is understanding the impact of the built environment on schools.Ever think about your school days and wonder how you managed to learn anything in a cold, depressing classroom? Or maybe you were more privileged and sat in an inspiring space surrounded by nature?Either way there's a good chance you will enjoy this great interview with one of the speakers at FOOTPRINT+If a school feels important, feels loved, the students respect it that little bit more… kids are very impressionable. So even if it's painted, if it's kept clean, it will just perpetuate that idea. The problem with a lot of this is how do you measure attainment and academic performance? And that's the real complexity.About Dr. Joe Jack WilliamsDr Joe Jack Williams is an Associate and researcher at FCBStudios and, alongside Ian Taylor, leads environmental research at the practice, identifying, developing and enabling research across sectors and projects. His specialism is the influence of the school building on the students studying within, measuring perceptions, environmental performance and building forms as well as predicting, measuring and mitigating carbon impacts of architecture. He has taught at a number of universities in the UK and is part of core research groups within Architects Declare, CIBSE and LETI.
The government has come out defending its MIQ programme, despite losing a High Court challenge launched by the Grounded Kiwis group, representing New Zealanders stranded overseas and unable to come home. The High Court found that the MIQ system operated unjustly in some cases, and that the so called 'virtual lobby' which allocated MIQ spaces operated like a lottery. It also found the emergency allocation process, which was supposed to help stranded and desperate New Zealand citizens, was not run effectively. And in what is perhaps the most damning aspect of the finding, the Court said that a more sophisticated system, that better prioritised those with a right to return, was reasonably available, and would have met the government's public health strategy. One of those loudly calling for the government to change its MIQ settings was Sir Ian Taylor. He talks to Nick Truebridge.
New emails show the Health Ministry asked Rapid Antigen Test suppliers to prioritise its orders over those of private businesses. On January 22, staff flagged concerns they only had information on five percent of their January and February orders - just two percent were confirmed for delivery. By month's end, businesses began reporting their orders were cancelled - because the Government had taken their stock. Businessman Sir Ian Taylor told Mike Hosking these emails show a sense of panic. He says it's the result of the Government realising after two years of banning RATS, they needed them. LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
