Ob in „Black Swan“, „The Wrestler“ oder in „The Whale“ – Darren Aronofky präferiert eine besondere Form der Körperkinos: Das Fleischliche wird malträtiert, der Zuschauer wird gequält, bis schließlich auf alle die große Erlösung wartet, die der Regie-Gott gewährt. In „The Whale“ spielt Brendan Fraser, der für diese Rolle einen Oscar gewann, einen fettleibigen Mann in seinen letzten Tagen. Charlie geht auf die 300 Kilo zu, kann sich kaum noch rühren, immer wieder geht ihm die Luft aus und der Blutdruck steigt und steigt.
