In this episode of the Millionaire Mindcast, we have a superb guest, Jason Medley who shares tips and perspectives on how to creates massive results, why integrations and connections are necessary to entrepreneurs, how to make a business healthy, the importance of Balance Sheet and what this pandemic reveals to everyone! Jason is a serial entrepreneur, and CEO and Founder at The Collective Genius, a COMMUNITY of investors that is really focused around placing high caliber real estate investors on the FAST TRACK to becoming visionary leaders that scale their business, build wealth and give back. It brings together 140 of the nation’s top real estate investors on a quarterly basis to brainstorm about housing market changes and to share their most intimate secrets, strategies, resources and systems. In 19 years of his career in real estate & finance, he has partnered in over 1300 multi-family doors with CG members and funded North of 1500 Loans. Therefore, Jason has built a strong foundation in his business, a huge wealth and portfolio. Hence, this pandemic doesn’t have an effect on the stability of his company and still be able to move forward towards his goals. The connection is what Jason enjoys focusing on, that’s why he co-founded the Collective Genius (CG) that will celebrate its 10 years in February 2021. At the moment, it continues forming a strong community of entrepreneurs. Despite this quarantine, its 144 members still do life together and show up virtually for a mastermind. Accordingly, it still creates a community and massive results. Though it is typical to feel a little bit guilty about being very fortunate for doing well these days, he suggested staying humble and giving empathy on all sides. On the bad side, if you’re currently struggling, try to ask yourself why. For Jason, this pandemic reveals the real problem that you've been neglecting for so many years. But even with Jason’s achievement, he admitted that there were times he still feels fears to fall down and to lose the momentum. But manage to flip the positive side and just create awareness. According to him, in order to win against COVID-19 is to focus and determine how you thrive and strive when an opportunity presents itself. Always be prepared for the opportunity. Besides, to win is to not wait for the pandemic to go away but learn to function in the environment you’re in right now and navigate it better than anybody else, be empathetic, and find the way to get the desired outcome. The first thing to realize is that there are no answers. Now that we have that out of the way, let's focus on the things you can actually do to prepare your business to survive during this economic uncertainty. I talk with Jason Medley from Collective Genius, one of the best real estate masterminds in the country, about the advice he gives to all of his investors. It's like we're a bike that's shifting gears, and right now the gears are grinding and haven't caught yet. They're making a terrible sound, and everything feels uncertain, and we're waiting for them to catch so that we can take off again. We're in the gap right now. Everything in real estate is paused or waiting. Buyers are pulling out, trying to sit out for a better deal. Sellers don't want to admit that they can't make as much money now as they could a few months ago. And you can't buy. We're all just waiting for everything to catch and go together again so we can shift into a different gear. While you're waiting for the gears of the economy to catch, Jason says you need to: —Manage your costs and expenses. —Manage your liquidity and cash. —Communicate at a level you've never communicated at before. —Be planning and stabilizing the ship. Jason explains the profit-first model of revenue minus profit equals expenses, and how it makes a difference for a business during lean times. The PNL statement is going to be your key in helping you make some of those tough decisions coming at you. Jason walks through what that might look like for you. The virus is not the problem. The virus is only revealing the problems in your business that have been neglected prior to its showing. What's Inside: —Scaling responsibly will turn your business into a cash cow. —How money and liquidity aren't the same, but still both matter for your profitability. —Why you absolutely have to have a PNL, and utilize it. —Going through and figuring out what you need to let go before you need to do it will free up a lot of your mental headspace. —Why now is the absolute worst time to quit your mastermind.

Today’s guest is Jason Medley, creator of the Collective Genius Mastermind. He joins Brian in today’s episode to talk about how Collective Genius got started, as well as its evolution from an information-based mastermind to one that’s creating deals. In addition, they talk about what elements make a good mastermind, as well as aspects to considering when deciding which one to join. Key Takeaways: [1:45] Jason hails from Tampa, Florida, and has been in real estate for about 18 or 19 years. He started as a retail mortgage broker and when the market crashed he had to find new ways to use his skill set. He started negotiating short sales for real estate agents, flipping short sales, and then he started doing transactional funding. [6:15] These funding deals opened the doors to his mastermind business, which has been going on for about nine years. His network and assets from his transactional funding business helped launch his following at the beginning. [12:20] One of the biggest learning lessons in getting this mastermind started was that you have to know what kind of value you’re bringing to your audience and you have to be dedicated to continually increasing the value you bring. It’s important to figure out how to help your audience get results. [15:00] One of Jason’s gifts is that he is a great connector. Starting Collective Genius has allowed him to practice and hone that gift. They’ve also been able to decide what they stand for and who they want to work with, so there is a process for deciding who will be a good fit for Collective Genius. [19:20] There was a shift moving from platform sales to the building of Collective Genius. Different sales methods work for different people and what’s important is that you are an expert in your craft and you believe in your product and your personal sales process. [23:30] When Collective Genius first got started, it was more of a side project for Jason. Over time, he’s seen that the results of the connections made through the mastermind have really increased. The level of connection between players has evolved over the last nine years from information-sharing to deal-making. [28:00] The deal-making connections exemplify the creation of a community. About two years into CG it started to happen organically. After he saw people start making these connections that produce results, he realized how valuable this could be to the members. There’s also an element of trust that has to be established before the connections start to carry some weight. [31:00] There are a lot of masterminds in the real estate space, and a lot of them got their start with CG. You don’t necessarily have to have the organic higher level of bigger deals to be a successful mastermind. There can be tremendous value in a mastermind even if there’s no potential for deal flow. [34:25] Someone might join a mastermind for results compression — you will meet people who have been where you are and can share what works for them. You don’t have to figure it out by yourself. The second big reason is to surround yourself with other entrepreneurs who have been where you are and can help push you to the next level. They are your support system. [39:10] With all the masterminds, how do you choose which one to join? Some masterminds are territory exclusive, some depend on your caliber, and they offer many different things. Make sure you know what you want to get out of a mastermind and that can help you decide. [44:55] Part of the Collective Genius is the Generous Genius, which is a branch of that mastermind that focuses on giving back. They partner with their members’ non-profit organizations to host large events to raise money. This year their goal is to raise a quarter of a million dollars that they split among the organizations. If you’d like to be involved, you can contact Jason via Facebook. “At the end of the day, you can’t replace how helping somebody makes you feel.” — Jason Mentioned in This Episode: Meetings Daily REIA Show REI Facebook Page Brian’s Book The Collective Genius Website Jason’s Facebook

Many entrepreneurs try to go it alone for the first phase of your business career. The lone wolf. The “I’ll figure this thing out”. The rugged individualist. But eventually, we discover that there are other people out there way smarter in many parts of business and life that I can learn from… and if I can get around a group of amazing people consistently it can really uplevel my game. I went through that conversation myself 7 years ago and joined my first Mastermind. In this episode of the CarrotCast I talk about Masterminds with my guest, Jason Medley, the founder of the Collective Genius. Listen to our other episodes at
