Game mechanics in this one: To raise attributes after character creation, you can spend 2 action points to increase an attribute 1 point. You can only raise an attribute 1 point per increase in level. Holding a spell/power - if a power using individual rolls a successful check of the corresponding attribute, the character may use one power while maintaining an existing one. The second action's value will be decreased by 2 until the maintained power is ended. At higher levels, characters may be able to maintain more than one power/spell at a time. In the astral realm, characters' Shadow is the base stat for all rolls unless noted otherwise by LM. A player may dodge or parry, but additional attacks after that will target the character's base armor stat unless the player takes a full defense round(chosen at beginning of round). Some creatures will have a counterattack when taking hits. This creature deals 2d6 to its attacker any time they inflict 6 or more points of damage. Closing Song: "Horror With Eyeballs" Get involved! We're calling these early shows our Prequel Episodes, as they don't quite reflect the overall character of the show generally. We love them, though, as they help explain the rules as well as introduce you to some of our most memorable players and characters! Skip ahead to Season 1 if you must, but once you're hooked come on back and see how this wacky adventure all started! In this episode, we meet two new players, Craig Balto Taylor and Steven Mathews. They play a Vorakh tech and a Mistral Mindkiller, respectively. This episode is all about character creation. We take you from dice-rolling to attributes to perks and drawbacks. We go a little easy on skills (don't want to bore you all too very much) and spend next to no time on equipment. Gideon, the Vorakh Tech, has a robot (pronounced RO-bit). Talon, the Mistral, has a lot of fancy ideas. Mechanics in this episode: Attribute Rolls - for heroes are roll 7d6, discard the lowest, then add 4 to each value. Assign each number to one attribute. Power Points: Characters start with 4 power points, which they can use for a variety of things, including buying perks, trading one in for 5 skill points, buying more vitality (6 vitality per point spent(, a bunch of money or gear, or they could save them to use in the game as Action Points. Action Points and Power Points are basically the same thing so I should probably use the same name for them but I like to be difficult so go fly a kite. Powers/Spells - for each power you can select the specific skill (like telekinesis) or you can use a Power Point to purchase a catch-all category. e.g. Divination. If you select Divination you then get one free subskill, i.e. telepathy. Closing Song: "Mind Control" - Mind Controls Get involved! In this thrilling episode Anthony makes his triumphant return as Rael Esgaelion AKA The Burning Mask! We rejoin Rael in the midst of a deadly race to save a possible friend of the Resistance before the bad guys get to him first. Rael rides a gurney! Closing Song: "Hospital For Heroes" - Direct Hit! Game mechanics in this episode: Speed shot is a sub-skill of Firearms. If you have the skill you can attempt to take an extra shot in a round (-2 for the extra shot, -4 if shooting a different target (within a 10 degree arc/skill level). Critical fail (or botch) - if player rolls a 1 the roll is an automatic failure. If the LM rolls a 1, 2, or 3 on a d10 it's a super botch. The effect of such can be very painful. The LM will decide what happens as a result. Using an action point allows the player to re-roll a failed roll OR add 5 to the result. Occasionally you can use it to make an enemy re-roll instead. Warriors get 150% vitality at character creation, 125% after that. Monks and Defenders get 125% at creation and +1d6 at each level (on top of their standard amount). Range: Missile weapons/firearms have ranges. At Medium range use the standard damage amount. At close range add 1d6 (unless otherwise specified). At point blank range at 2d6. Get involved! Skip ahead to Season 1 if you must, but once you're hooked come on back and see how this wacky adventure all started! [IMPORTANT LISTENER UPDATE: If you guys don't know, we had to let Scott Etter know he won't be welcome back on the show. At the beginning of Season Two, we address some of the specific reasons for this decision, both in a blog post but also a mention about it at the start of the first episode. The main thing you need to know is that he played Yifriti lawyer Yifram Silvertongue, and that he's no longer a member of the cast. For now we'll keep the episodes that he appeared on, but that may change at some point in the future.] In this episode, Tacoma comedian Scott Etter joins the cast, playing Yifram Silvertongue, a Yifriti spy and mob lawyer. Anthony's character Rael meets up with Yifram and they get ready for the next character in the campaign. Plus, the boys go on a crazy bike ride! Mechanics in this episode: Critical failures happen when you roll a 1 on a skill check. When Scott rolls a 1, Jeff rolls another 10-sided and rolls real low, which turns a regular botch into an epic failure. In this case it leads to a hilarious slapstick moment. Good times! Baerleon the big buff Lunari drags Rael into a great big mess. Critical failures are happening left and right. Rael hunts down some bad mothereffers and gets shot at. Mechanics in this episode: Power check: roll a d10! Roll the die again if it comes up 10! Add that business together! Add your skill level and the respective attribute and you have your success score. The DM rolls a similar roll then adds that to whatever attribute or power can best defend against the power's effect. *50s horror film trailer guy voice "Stay tuned for next week when Rael tracks down the deadly assassin!" We're calling these early shows our Prequel Episodes, as they don't quite reflect the overall character of the show generally. We love them, though, as they help explain the rules as well as introduce you to some of our most memorable players and characters! Skip ahead to Season 1 if you must, but once you're hooked come on back and see how this wacky adventure all started! In this episode, Anthony's character Rael is mobbing down a canal trying to reach and hopefully capture the assassin/bomber that did the terrible deeds. He gets hurt, then helped, then makes it just in time to see some real crazy business go down. Mechanics in this episode: Vitality starts out at 3X your Water stat. Rael took a bunch of damage, dropping him to -8. For each amount below zero equivalent to your Water Stat, the character takes on a Wound. Most NPCs have only 1, while most players start with 2 (Warriors, Monks, and Guardians get 3). If you take a wound, you're at minus 3 to all actions (per wound). Once you take a wound you're Fading, which means you could pass out at any time. Every 2 rounds you need to roll a Water check to avoid falling unconscious (bad news if you're hanging from a rope above a raging river). If you get an Epic or higher success, you're back in the game (no further need for Water checks). If you do pass out, it will take 3 successful Water checks to come back. Every three rolls the Loremaster will roll a check to see if you take another wound. If you receive another wound you are effectively dead, unless a priest or other healer gets to you in time (Like Miracle Max in Princess Bride). Stay in touch y'all!
