A petition was launched by Te Taiao o Kawhia Moana, a group dedicated to the protection and conservation of the Kāwhia harbour, calling on the Ōtorohanga District Council to remove vehicle access from vulnerable areas of the inner harbour and to Support the development of new alternative access infrastructure. The group says that local taonga species and ecosystems are being put at risk by current vehicle access and that The proposed Ocean Beach access way would provide a sustainable alternative that balances community access needs with environmental protection. For this week's Gert Action! Oto spoke to John Forbes, founding Chair of Te Taiao o Kāwhia Moana, to discuss the petition and the importance of protecting the harbour. Sí, get up, get on up!

SAN ONOFRE-Aww man, is it... Zack Kouns? Are we really speaking to The Wild Man on Planet Earth?! Ya tenemos plan para el verano, we´ll get our kicks on Route 66 with Zack Kouns!!! Burrrrp!!!

SAN ONOFRE-Same time next year, lil ole yarnspinner you, John?! Hey Big O, What a definition of perilous dire straits this week has been. A fog! Sunday night I was hit with some sort of bug. I wasn’t sure if it was TB, polio, or leprosy. I was fit for an iron lung. I spent from Monday til Wednesday sliding into dream visions. And, my brother, they weren’t enlightening or visually stunning. No! These things were dull and uncomfortable. I dreamt my niece and her family were like the Joads from “The Grapes Of Wrath”. I had to push their jalopy up the San Bernardino Mountains. Nothing but broken inner tubes, metal wash basins, and feral chickens. The next dream was more depressing and went on for days. I was in a truly square conference room stuck at a cafeteria style folding table. The room was packed to the gills with evangelicals. All in polyester suits. Donald Trump was at a dias. He was bragging about himself. Then he started lecturing about his past lives through the eons. Dating back to ancient Egypt. I was feeling uncomfortable. I looked at my arm and noticed I was wearing an ugly brown suit. I finally pulled myself out of the sick bed to take care of business. I was walking like the undead and had an I.Q. of even less. I passed a large hillbilly woman that was smoking a cigarette who gave me the stink eye. She was wearing a t-shirt that read “If you’re going to be salty then bring the tequila “. If I had my 110% I would have talked about it when we talked; now follow me along here… Vincennes. It’s the center of the universe. The whole burg believes if a nuclear war was to happen it would be the first place to be bombed. Iggy Pop peeing in a drink and trying to serve it to a guy I used to work for. That is only the tip of the iceberg. Joe South and his importance to me right now and the writing of this latest TH album. Plus all of his songs are self help odes. And I know nothing about that! No album title yet. That’s how that one goes. Playing Deep Blues Festival in Clarksdale, Mississippi this fall and hitting Memphis and elsewhere way down in the south. And that’s all the news from this week. Joe Patt, the TH drummer, are headed to Madison, Wisconsin tomorrow to play a party for an Illuminati inspired beer brewery. Until then! It's been said that psychological safety is the single biggest contributor to workplace productivity. When employees are in a psychologically safe space, they know that their ideas, questions, and concerns are valued, and their contributions are appreciated and mistakes are a sign of learning and development. In this episode of the Business Chat Podcast, I have a wonderful chat with Dr. John Forbes, a Clinical Psychologist and Director of Delta Psychology. John chats with me about surviving a toxic workplace by promoting and cultivating psychological safety. When workers feel that they are valued, heard, and empowered, they produce optimum outcomes. Being in a toxic workplace is no easy feat, it's important for employers to set boundaries and create a work culture that encourages respect among every employee. This week we are excited to welcome Dr. John Forbes to the Weekly Space Hangout. John is a theoretical and computational astrophysicist at the Flatiron Institute, a division of the Simons Foundation, in New York City. He studies how galaxies and stars form using supercomputer simulations, statistical modeling, and machine learning. John recently collaborated with Dr. Nia Imara from UC Santa Cruz and James Weaver from Harvard to develop a series of nine models that incorporate the three forces that govern how stellar nurseries are formed: turbulence, gravity, and magnetic fields. Using these models, they have 3D printed colorized nebulae "marbles" that visually represent the filaments and other material found in star forming regions. John earned his undergraduate degree at Caltech, a PhD at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and did a fellowship at Harvard before joining the Flatiron Institute. He is a huge fan of science fiction & board games. His favorite science fiction books include The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu, and Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson. His current favorite game is Alchemists, though for scientists some of the game mechanics (like losing a point of reputation for having too few theories published at a conference) might hit a bit close to home. On a more serious note, John cares a lot about social justice in & out of astronomy. Libraco bello... wouldn´tcha?
Former President Dwight D. Eisenhower famously said, “In preparing for battle I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable.” Additionally, in Barbara Tuchman's book, The Guns of August, she illustrates the importance of building flexibility into a plan. In this episode of Office Call, Nesta Garner and John Forbes conduct an after action report to evaluate how the 90 Day Command Plan survived the first contact. They discuss what went well, what did not go so well, and what changes to make for the next plan.

In this first episode of EG's new Resi Talks podcast, residential editor Emma Rosser explores the rising phenomenon of inexperienced investors losing money to permitted development rights. From Magna Capital to other more high profile failings from Signature Living and Inspired Developments, office-to-resi developers are buckling under hidden costs and a challenging sales market and homes that banks refuse to mortgage. Retail investors backing mini bonds have lost money and the FCA is now clamping down on risky or potentially fraudulent operations. Joining Emma to discuss how and why small investors are getting burned by PD and what that means for the industry is fund expert John Forbes, London agent Jonathan Vandermolen and BPF head of policy, Ian Fletcher.

Clean all the sand you dirty little snail, the locusts are here - it's not a beautiful mind and you're not John Forbes Nash, it's a disgusting nightmare, you're John Forbes' Gash and you're forever trapped behind the glass, staring out at a room full of people you respect laughing directly into your stupid snail face. We are screaming downwards today as the margin closes in, and the only possible future position is snotty, weepy begging on your knees. www.surething.money Intro music created by H-Pizzle.
John Forbes is a pharmacist from Urbandale who supports allowing Iowans to use cannabis products for medicinal purposes. Lucky for those Iowans, he's also a State Representative. The background: Governor Reynolds vetoed a medical cannabis bill last year that passed with bipartisan support. There was a discrepancy in the amount of THC these products could contain. The Medical Cannabidiol Board recommended a limit of 4.5 grams per every 90 day prescription, the Legislature's bill contained a 25 gram limit. The bill discussed today would set the cap at that 4.5 gram amount. Links: Rep. John Forbes's legislator page Follow Rep. John Forbes has been with the Walking Access Commission since before its inception. Last week we marked his retirement and celebrated his contribution to outdoor public access in New Zealand. Many of the speakers, including John, took the opportunity to talk about the history (and the future) of the Commission and of public access.

Every year, the Herbert Hoover Foundation awards two members of the Iowa legislature the Uncommon Public Service Award. Only a few people in the House and Senate chambers know who the recipient of the award will be until it is announced. Like previous winners, legislators Sen. Ken Rozenboom, R-Oskaloosa, and Rep. John Forbes, D-Urbandale, had no idea they were being honored until it was announced on the chamber floor.

Now the Senate has 50 members as the winner of the special election for Senate District 30, Sen. Eric Giddens, D-Cedar Falls, has taken the oath of office. The Senate had what seems like its annual debate about banning traffic enforcement cameras. Camera opponents say they take away due process for those who are ticketed. Proponents say they keeps roadways safer and allow law enforcement to focus on other efforts. Although Republicans control both chambers, they don’t always agree on bills. A House Judiciary

Bill Henson's first solo exhibition, held at the National Gallery of Victoria in 1975 when he was 19 years old, heralded the beginnings of a unique photographic vision of the Australian landscape. Known for his brooding imagery and exacting artistic process, Henson alludes to the darkness of Caravaggio, the lightness of Purcell and the drama of Wagner. The intensity and intimacy of his images broach the boundary of the painterly and the cinematic, combining both surface and depth to reflect a space between the mystical and the real. Like Francesco Clemente, his photographs may begin with a fleeting vision or impression, a piece of music or line of writing, that echoes subconsciously before manifesting in his work. Henson's 'Untitled 1994/95' shows naked youths, cars and the darkened landscape that constantly fluctuates between space and time. It is a layered work, interspersed and fragmented by jagged reversed photographic paper that is pinned almost savagely to the surface. The glaring voids are not only temporarily blinding but create a shift akin to a screen obscuring the darkness and its content. The fracturing of the surface develops a provocative tension, splintering the image and adding to its intensity, further charging the displaced subjects with a brutal, baroque sensuality. The figural 'tableau vivant' is, as critic John Forbes suggested, an approximation of Renaissance art. There is also something medieval about the imagery and figures, which recall the rich and fractured spaces of Dieric Bouts' 'Hell' and 'Paradise' of 1450. The evocative portrait series 'Paris Opera Project' brings a strangely discontinuous space to the viewer. Part of a much larger series, the portraits play out the drama of opera as if in five acts. Moving from a moody landscape in half-light to a young girl who lifts her hand to grasp the darkness, the inky blackness of the theatre leads us through the other portraits of opera viewers deep in concentration. The final image, like the first, is a fuzzy landscape, where a barely discernible hill of trees is mirrored by trailing clouds, the space between reflecting the shimmering night sky. Like video artist Bill Viola, Henson chooses not to show the action of the stage but rather the audience in full devotional contemplation. Often likened to painting, Henson's artistic process is not unlike the painter's struggle: 'just as you can scrape back areas of painting and go over them, you do follow something along over maybe several weeks and change things until it slips past its best point and you lose it. And then there's a long, often a very long, period when the work is turning into something else - you can't wind it back to whatever it was'.1 1.
