Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of August 18, 2023. A new superhero movie called “Blue Beetle,” featuring a mostly Latin American cast and a fresh feeling (for the most part) that really emphasizes family, is the latest offering for DC superhero fans. “Strays” is a VERY R-rated talking dog comedy with Will Ferrell & Jamie Foxx that mixes bodily function jokes way too liberally for my taste into a pretty sweet story with cute dogs. Netflix's “The Monkey King” is an animated family movie that is enjoyable if not a bit frenetic. The Sundance movie “Landscape with Invisible Hand” is not nearly as rom-com-ish as the trailer would make it seem. While Hulu's “Miguel Wants to Fight” is a comedy about a nice kid who wants to get into a fight before he moves away from his friends, that while fun, the adult language can be a bit of a downer. Amazon's studio has similar problems with “Puppy Love” starring Grant (The Flash) Gustin and Lucy (Pretty Little Liars) Hale. While the new Amazon series “Harlan Coben's Shelter” is a young adult mystery for people with patience. Two much more family-friendly choices: Apple's “Snoopy Presents: One-of-a-Kind Marcie” finally lets us get to know Peppermint Patty's bespectacled friend better, and the filmed-in-Utah “Aliens Abducted My Parents and Now I Feel Kinda Left Out.” Beyond Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Gaming, and Tech, the brains behind Fan Effect are connoisseurs of categories surpassing the nerdy. Brilliant opinions and commentary on all things geek, but surprising knowledge and witty arguments over pop culture, Star Trek, MARVEL vs. DC, and a wide range of movies, TV shows, and more. Formerly known as SLC Fanboys, the show is hosted by Andy Farnsworth and KellieAnn Halvorsen, who are joined by guest experts. You want to get nuts? Let's get nuts! We are telling the story of DC Comics in film from Christopher Reeve's Superman to Michael Keaton's Batman through the Synderverse, all leading up to our coverage of 2023's The Flash and its take on the multiverse alongside a brief recap of the film's messy production history. Plus we speculate as to what's next for DC on film. Ep. 102 What if the DC superhero movie universes were a bowl of spaghetti? Including Michael Keaton's Batman, resurrecting DC film worlds lost or only imagined, and our review of The Flash (2023)From Infinite earths as seen in dozens of DC comic book based filmsHoly film studies Batman! We explore DC Comics on film starting with Superman: The Movie through to the original Batman quartet to the Nolan trilogy and into the DC Extended Universe. Guido and Rob share childhood recollections of the first time they saw some of these films, personal favorites, and early examples of requels (hello, Superman Returns!). Plus your hosts share their differing opinions on 2023's The Flash alongside a brief and tangled history of this character coming to the screen in his own solo movie. To wrap up, we debate what is next for DC on screen, whether we will see more multiversal stories and whether that multiverse is really a big bowl of spaghetti. Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of June 16, 2023. Two big movies are opening against each other; Warner Brothers' "The Flash" and Disney's "Elemental” is setting up a divisive weekend at the box office. The DC Superhero is a very enjoyable, though not perfect superhero movie that also brings back Michael Keaton as Batman. The animated Pixar film's sincere story about the immigrant experience has some amazing visuals, but a few head-scratching moments near the end. “Elemental” also boasts an excellent animated short before the movie starts called "Carl's Date" with old man Carl from "Up" and his dog named Dug. (Don't miss Producer KellieAnn's quick take on both “The Flash” and “Elemental” after Andy's segment.) Other options include the start of season 2 of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” streaming on Paramount Plus; the very interesting Netflix documentary “Arnold” about Arnold Schwarzenegger; Chris Hemsworth's "Extraction 2" on Netflix; The horror comedy "The Blackening" in theaters; and another documentary streaming about “Stan Lee,” this time on DisneyPlus. And Beyond Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Gaming, and Tech, the brains behind Fan Effect are connoisseurs of categories surpassing the nerdy. Brilliant opinions and commentary on all things geek, but surprising knowledge and witty arguments over pop culture, Star Trek, MARVEL vs. DC, and a wide range of movies, TV shows, and more. Snyder is the only credited director on the Justice League 2017 superhero film, but he left during post-production to grieve for a family tragedy, leading to “Avengers” director Joss Whedon stepping in and finishing the material which was radically different from Snyder's initial vision. - The Marvel blueprint wasn't Zack Snyder's idea. He always tried to create an enclosed thing. His original plan for his Justice League movies involved a five movie arc and story. His plan was to follow the story of Superman. Snyder didn't want Justice League released as soon as it was his plan to follow the story of Superman. But Warner Bros execs wanted to get the Justice League team out there as soon as possible. He was rushed into that by Warner Bros and their ploy to catch up with Marvel's Shared Universe. - In Justice Con Panel, Snyder referred to Justice League version that's coming to HBO Max as an “Elseworld” Justice League. It means it doesn't have to be part of the DCEU thread anymore. In DC Comics, the Elseworld label was created in DC Comics to tell stories that used iconic DC Characters but didn't have to follow existing canon. Snyder is free to shape his story into whatever fits what he wants to tell now. - The Suicide Squad 2 is happening with a largely new cast and Guardians of the Galaxy's James Gunn taking over David Ayer as director, The Suicide Squad is one of the most anticipated movies of 2021. - Chris Wong's excited and looking forward to the releases of Snyder's Cut, Suicide Squad, Black Adam (although they haven't started with production) but he is curious about the whole cast of the movie, Superman with Black Adam vs Superman fight, Batman with Robert Pattinson, The Flash, and two secret movie projects that have not yet been announced to the public. - The endless possibilities of Justice League Dark meeting the Justice League is very exciting. JJ Abram's Justice League Dark is entering the DC Universe and produces a new DC Superhero television series that can be streamed exclusively on HBO Max. - With all this different multiverse and stuff, imagine down the line, they do an actual big budget crisis event. When you talk multiverse, what's the next step of multiverse at the end? It's Crisis. It's the Avengers' Endgame. It will put Endgame out of the water. Victoria Avalor joins us from Philadelphia, PA for Episode 48. Victoria is a cosplayer, charity worker, blogger, professional princess and coordinator for the Eastern Pennsylvania branch of Heroes Alliance. Recorded in late October (before Fantastic Beasts came out), Victoria and I covered a number of different fandoms. First, we explored her connection with DC Comics. How she got into the DC side of life, her favorite characters, the DC Superhero girl dolls and of course, the upcoming Wonder Woman movie. Next, we talk Harry Potter. We talk the books, her favorite character, Hermione and Ron as well as the Chestnut Hill Harry Potter Festival that happened last year. From there, we switch over to doll collecting and dolls such as the Monster High series, Ever After High, and DC Superhero Girls and the marketing of product for female characters. We talk Cosplay next. How Victoria got into it, her experiences with it, princess parties and being a coordinator with Heroes Alliance. And before we wrap up, we talk about something that caught my attention - MTV's Catfish TV series and Victoria tells a story about how someone once used her pictures and pretended to be her back in the MySpace days. Rip Hunter: Time Master first appeared in Showcase in 1959 The Waverider -- Rip Hunter's timeship -- is in fact named after Waverider, a time-traveling superhero and former member of the Linear Men. Darth Vader and Boba Fett both get name-dropped here as looking like Chronos. Rip Hunter's study/time lab Peter Francis James plays the role of Dr. Aldus Boardman on DC's Legends of Tomorrow. The character, unique to the TV show, first appeared during the Arrow/The Flash crossover. Roch is a city that was for a time the home of Hawkman and Hawkgirl. On tonight's series premiere of DC's Legends of Tomorrow, The CW introduced Chronos. This feels a lot like Booster Gold Vol. 2. During an interview with The Mirror, she expressed her frustration with the disconnect between DC's films and television series, why the Suicide Squad was axed from the show and more. "We were about season two when they started telling us we had to start basically killing off the Suicide Squad that we were starting to build on our own," Holland recalled. "We were actually trying to build that on our own on the show, and I guess once DC found out they were going to be doing their own movie of it, we had to ax all of the characters before we even got to show them, which was a little annoying at first.” Link: http://www.comicbookresources.com/article/willa-holland-calls-out-wb-for-shutting-down-arrows-plans-for-the-suicide-squad GENERAL DC TV NEWS ‘DC's Legends of Tomorrow': Ciara Renee to Depart (Date: 19 May 2016) From Deadline: According to Marc Guggenheim, when they were going through the list of characters they could bring back for season 2, bringing back Hawkman and Hawkgirl felt forced; after all, the idea behind Legends was to have a rotating team of characters.
