The United Nations has mediated conflicts since its founding in 1945. That domain of involvement extended into space in 1967 with the Outer Space Treaty. Today, their role is increasingly active with more and more nations entering space and the private sector getting into the game. The US's space-related branches, UNOOSA (the UN Office of Outer Space Affairs) and COPUOUS (UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space), are busy. Many years ago, the National Space Society gained permanent UN observer status, which is much less passive than the name sounds. The organization has addressed the committees on more than one occasion and is working to influence the policy for space flight positively. Dr. Rick Jenet has been instrumental in these efforts and joins us in explaining the landscape of newspace, international space efforts, and the organization's future initiatives.Headline Space Shuttle Discovery Controversy: Rod and Isaac discuss the proposed $85 million move of the Space Shuttle Discovery from the Smithsonian to Houston, plan that faces obstacles from the Smithsonian, which holds the rights to the shuttle. Main Topic: UNOOSA & Dr. Rick Jenet The National Space Society's UN Observer Status: Dr. Jenet explains that the NSS gained permanent observer status at the UN in 2001. The NSS uses this privilege to inform delegates by providing research and presentations. UNOOSA and COPUOS Explained: Dr. Jenet clarifies that UNOOSA organizes the Committee on Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS). While UNOOSA maintains a registry of space objects, COPUOS is the body of 104 member states that develops legal frameworks. Outer Space Treaty of 1967: Dr. Jenet talks about the Outer Space Treaty, a global treaty dating back to the Cold War era that governs how state actors behave in space. He that the treaty's language on property ownership is being re-examined due to the rise of commercial space activities. Space Traffic Management and Orbital Debris: Dr. Jenet highlights that discussions on space traffic management and orbital debris are in their early stages. These discussions focus on basic tenets like coordination and information sharing. Lunar Activities and Resource Utilization: The development of policies for lunar exploration and resource extraction is also an area of new activity. UNOOSA's "Action Team for Lunar Activities Consultation," with co-chairs from Romania and Pakistan, coordinates the future of humanity's return to the moon by aligning different national initiatives. The "Regulation Sandbox" Concept: Dr. Jenet discusses the "regulation sandbox" concept, where existing regulations for an area with commercial potential, for example a lunar ice deposit, are set aside for a limited time to allow a new set of rules to be tested. This concept could be applied more boradly to space launch or ISRU. Why the Public Should Care: Dr. Jenet emphasizes that the public should care about these efforts because these high-level discussions will lead to international laws governing the behavior of all actors in space, including private companies and entrepreneurs. Early awareness of these frameworks will be less painful for startups later on. These show notes have been truncated due to length. MidWest Simon claims the lack of financial supports in budget 2024 will leave scores of struggling families in Clare in crisis. Last month, 296 households presented to the local authority's homeless action team, the highest figure recorded in the county so far this year. As part of budget 2024, the renters tax credit has been increased from €500 to €750, however the total rebate for electricity bills has fallen by €150. MidWest Simon CEO Jackie Bonfield believes the short sighted approach will exacerbate demand for emergency accommodation.

On this episode of the Furbabies Podcast, Stephanie Goodman talks with Sharon Ganzhorn from the SCAT Inc Team (Sharon's Critter Action Team) which is an animal rescue 501c3 nonprofit out of Virginia. Sharon shares her passion for helping animals and how her rescue has started and grown with the help of others. https://www.facebook.com/sharon.ganzhornSCAT Inc: http://www.scatinc.orgWatch the original video HERE!Sharon Ganzhorn is the president and founder of a small eastern VA animal rescue that focuses mainly on cats. We work hard to bring the animals in our care to optimum health and help them find forever homes.SCAT, a 501(c)3 organization, was founded in 2015 and is primarily a cat rescue and volunteer foster organization. We frequently take the ones with expensive veterinary care needs that no one else will take. (We take in other types of animals on occasion.) After getting kitties the veterinary care they need, which is often significant, they are loved and pampered with by their foster families until they can be sent to our partner rescue organizations for adoption. We do not charge approved rescues for our kitties; we are simply pleased that they will have a chance to have loving forever homes.Occasionally, we do adopt to families in our area. Our adoption fee is $50 and the family must agree that the kitty will be indoors only and will not be declawed. We welcome inquiries! Our online auctions and fundraisers provide needed dollars for our very substantial veterinary and foster and travel expenses to transport kitties to New Hampshire and Massachusetts. We also support shelters, rescues and sanctuaries nationwide, especially in emergency situations (such as the North Carolina hurricane) with funds, supplies and volunteers. SCAT has no employees. We are 100% volunteers. SCAT is about sharing our love for all animals, but also sharing our talents and our bounty. And, as we come together in the spirit of giving, we form lifelong friendships. Each life is important and we are rewarded by knowing we are making a difference.Tune into the Furbabies Podcast YouTube Channel at http://FurbabiesPodcast.tv.Got a question or suggestion for Stephanie and the show? Value Mapping - Improve First This starts with creating value maps for each major process that produces something to sell. As we discussed in previous shows, once you have reviewed and improved the process to take all unnecessary steps of the process, now is to time fully burden each step with all of its costs. Topics: Show/Chapter 6 Review Select the Target Process: Project Manager selects a target process. Assemble Process Teams: Simple Projects – Project Manager creates an Action Team to handle the design, building, testing, and finalizing of the new process. Complex Projects – Executive creates a Design Team for research, design, and project management; and an Action Team for building and testing the new process. Create “As Is” Process: Project Manager or Design Team works with employees in the targeted process to determine what they “actually do” and why those steps/methods were chosen.Conduct Market Research: Based upon the output produced from the targeted process Project Manager conducts research to establish a Benchmark (Should Be) as a starting point.Compare “As Is” to “Should Be” Process: Project Manager or Design Team compares what should be done against what actually occurs to determine the reasons for the difference. This information is critical for designing the “To Be” process.Perform a Value Check:Check 1 - does this step provide value to the customer is willing to pay for?Check 2 - is the step required for technical or quality demands?Check 3: is the step required for legal or regulatory demands? Complete a QSFD: A structured process for creating design specifications based upon user needs and technological requirements. Should include project manager, functional management, subject matter experts, and front line employees.Create “To Be” Process Map: Starting from the As Is, Design and/or Action Team build a process that establishes the company as the LCP (Lowest Cost Producer) or as close as possible.
LCP PART 1 Select the Target Process: Project Manager selects a target process. Assemble Process Teams: Simple Projects – Project Manager creates an Action Team to handle the design, building, testing, and finalizing of the new process. Complex Projects – Executive creates a Design Team for research, design, and project management; and an Action Team for building and testing the new process. Create “As Is” Process: Project Manager or Design Team works with employees in the targeted process to determine what they “actually do” and why those steps/methods were chosen. Conduct Market Research: Based upon the output produced from the targeted process Project Manager conducts research to establish a Benchmark (Should Be) as a starting point. Compare “As Is” to “Should Be” Process: Project Manager or Design Team compares what should be done against what actually occurs to determine the reasons for the difference. This information is critical for designing the “To Be” process. Perform a Value Check: Check 1 - does this step provide value to the customer is willing to pay for? Check 2 - is the step required for technical or quality demands? Check 3: is the step required for legal or regulatory demands? Complete a QSFD: A structured process for creating design specifications based upon user needs and technological requirements. Should include project manager, functional management, subject matter experts, and front line employees. Create “To Be” Process Map: Starting from the As Is, Design and/or Action Team build a process that establishes the company as the LCP (Lowest Cost Producer) or as close as possible.

Guests: Alison Reyes, Director, Security Solutions, Google Cloud Iman Ghanizada, Solutions Manager for Security Operations & Analytics @ Google Cloud Topics: What is our thinking on solutions vs products for security? Sure, “security is a process, not a product,” but where do solutions fit in? Security as an industry has too many vendors with little understanding of how users secure things, can solutions approach fix that? Google is sometimes known for writing code and just throwing it out there, do solutions change that dynamic for Google Cloud clients who come to us for security? Who are the target users for our security solutions? Why did we choose those solutions and not others? To me, solutions is how our products actually live in the real world. But can we really hope to transform customer operations with solutions? One of the solutions dear to my heart is Autonomic Security Operations that seeks to “10X the SOC”, how was the experience so far? Is 10X real and what does it mean? How do we know if we succeeded, what are metrics for solutions? How do solutions fit with Google Cybersecurity Action Team launch? Do we need more action figures now? Nebraska farmer Steve Ebke talks about the NCGA Risk Management and Transportation Action Team
Dan Wesely from Morse Bluff talks about recent issues addressed by the Production Technology Access action team of the National Corn Growers Association.
Guest: Phil Venables (@philvenables), Vice President, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) @ Google Cloud Topics: We are here to talk Google Cybersecurity Action Team, and this is your brainchild, so tell our audience the origin of this idea? How is Cybersecurity Action Team going to help secure GCP enterprise clients? Is there also a “improve the security of the internet” story? Many organizations seem stuck in the pre-cloud thinking and mental models, can Cybersecurity Action Team help them transform their security? How? When we sometimes present our security innovations to clients, they say “but we are not Google”, so how does Cybersecurity Action Team help us bring more of Google Cybersecurity to the world? What else do we plan to do with Cybersecurity Action Team to help customers modernize their security? How should customers engage with Cybersecurity Action Team? Welcome back, friends! Today we have a really cool show for you. One of the coolest things that I've seen in the last few years of Greensburg's revitalization efforts is businesses teaming up to collaborate on projects. Today we're talking with 3 separate businesses about how they all got together and tackled a project. Ashley Lechman from Let Clutterfly teamed up with Nicole Szakos of Thrivent Financial to help clean and organize the cluttered offices of Big Brothers Big Sisters. Stephanie Babich was also here to tell us the world of difference that made to her organization. It's a great one, so check it out and give it a share! Check them out at the following links

They talk candidate vetting, campaign strategy, crazy deployment stories, and the one time Joel rented every mini van at the Denver airport.Other stories include how Joel and Jeremiah's first SAT experiences, how the word about SATs spreads through the halls and offices of Washington, D.C., and why a shelf of old running shoes holds a very special place in Joel's heart. If you're in need of encouragement (and truly, who among us isn't), this edition of Spotlight will speak to your soul as we feature more prayer and exhortation from the recent Rally for Jesus. Rev. Ron Citlau references 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 as a model for Christians to engage with the world and strengthen the Church. After the break, Rev. Ceasar LeFlore encourages us to claim the peace that Jesus promises to His followers and he passionately asks us to consider how the righteous people of God should respond when the foundations of our nation – truth, righteousness, sanctity of life, and family – are being destroyed. Rev. Ron Citlau is the leader pastor of Calvary Church in Orland Park. Thank you, Pastor Citlau and Calvary Church for hosting Illinois Family Institute's Rally for Jesus! Rev. Ceasar LeFlore is an Illinois Family Institute board member, a founder of Southland Coalition for Life, and a local leader for the 40 Days for Life prayer campaign. Today on the show I'm giving you a more direct call to action. This week, tens of thousands of people are preparing to endure the wrath of Hurricane Florence, and a group of tens of thousands more are ready to deploy their skills to be the best part of their worst day and Get (Stuff) Done. Team Rubicon's primary mission is providing disaster relief to those affected by natural disasters, be they domestic or international. By pairing the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders, medical professionals, and technology solutions, Team Rubicon aims to provide the greatest service and impact possible. Through continued service, Team Rubicon seeks to provide our veterans with three things they lose after leaving the military: a purpose, gained through disaster relief; community, built by serving with others; and identity, from recognizing the impact one individual can make. Coupled with leadership development and other opportunities, Team Rubicon looks to help veterans transition from military to civilian life. I'm a proud member of Team Rubicon Region V, and had the privilege of serving alongside my fellow tribe members in the wake of Hurricane Harvey in 2017. It was one of the most profoundly positive experiences of my life, and you can have that mix of adventure, purpose, and service too by signing up to deploy on their website. It only takes a few hours of training, and a little bit of gear and you're good to go. Here's where you go to sign up: teamrubiconusa.csod.com/selfreg/register.aspx?c=sf_track&_ga=2.194349679.356286805.1536672462-505347610.1536672462
