We've been saving a bunch of mail-calls for this unboxing video! Paul picked up a House of Secrets issue 1 CGC 3.5. This is the book which started the HOS run which later in issue 92, Swamp Thing makes his first appearance. The FOMO book was Thor issue 6 Second Print in a CGC 9.8. This cover shows Thanos wearing the 7th Infinity Stone which apparently is a big part of the comics story moving forward. Again, pure spec and FOMO. Jimmy went with Gargoyles 1. This is the second series produced for the Gargoyles storyline after the show was cancelled in the 90s. The series did not last long and the trade paperbacks are actually extremely rare and high priced because of the small production run. With the latest Gargoyles Dynamite series, had to add this to the collection. My Greatest Adventure #80 This is a book Jimmy has been looking for a while after watching the Doom Patrol on HBO MAX. This is the first appearance of the original Doom Patrol, with Dr. Niles Caulder, Negative Man, Elasti-girl, and Silver Age Robotman. Found a great deal after the hype died down a little as we try to not play into the FOMO aspect of the hobby. If you haven't checked out the show, do yourself a favor and please do because Diane Guerrero as Crazy Jane and Brendan Frasier as Robot Man are incredible in the show. #fomo #unboxing #comicbooks https://linktr.ee/MagicCityPodcast Appease the Algorithm Gods! To all of our surprise, Todd started his own superhero advertising agency during the pandemic and just informed us that we would be "pitching to him" a PR solution. After being told that they're completely different things, he just kind of shrugged and did that weird Ashlee Simpson SNL dance. So, for some reason, the rest of us are here pitching a complete public relations strategy for a particular DC superhero. In this universe, be prepared to see Batman picking up trash by the highway, Shazam teaching kids the dangers of underage drinking, and Negative Man embracing his inner positivity. Episode 9 is by far our favorite episode of season 1. This episode is very focused on Crazy Jane's mind. After her Karen persona gets pulled back into the Underground (this is what they call Jane's mind), none of the personalities wants to go to the surface (what they call being the dominant personality). This causes her body to go into a catatonic state. Robotman is able to enter her mind through Negative Man's energy. Once inside her mind we see that some of the personalities look like Jane and others do not. We are introduced to a few new personalities that haven't gone to the surface. Most of them do not like going to the surface as they find the real world stressful to deal with. We also find out that the personalities are able to commit suicide by going to the well. One of the personalities, Miranda, had done that. Miranda's station is filled with lots of dark and gory imagery. Jane is at the end of her rope and is going to visit the well to end it all. Robotman is able to track her down to the well and helps her face the root of all her problems. As a child she was sexually abused by her father. She repressed all those memories until years later she was again sexually abused by a priest at a church. This explains her hatred of the church in the Nurnheim episode. With Robotman's help, Jane is able to stave off the suicidal tendencies for now. When Jane pops back to the surface we discover the others had some sort of kerfuffle. I imagine we will find out what happened with them in a future episode. Do you agree with us that this is the best episode so far? Do you also think it should have been aired sooner in the line up? Let us know in the comments below. We have also added a Google Voice number where you can call and leave us your thoughts.  If they are good, we will use them on the show.  The number is (575) 323-1332. Episode 6 of Doom Patrol delivers much more weirdness, in a good way. Mr Nobody has sent our reluctant heroes on a search for the "Doom Patrol". Crazy Jayne uses her Flit personality to take Rita and Negative Man to a school for kids with powers (sound like X-men to you?). At the school they discover that the Doom Patrol (Mento, Celsius, and Lodestone) have faced off against Mr Nobody in the past. This encounter left them all mentally unbalanced. In fact, they are all being heavily medicated and living in an illusion in order to keep them from going off the deep end and using their powers indiscriminately. The Doom Patrol's caretaker, Tempest, tells them Mr Nobody sent them to the school so they would see what would happen if they went against him. Mr Nobody loves playing the mind games. We also see Cyborg's dad finally cut the apron strings and let Cyborg be his own person rather than trying to dictate and forcefully guide him in life. Robot Man and Cyborg bound a little in this episode, but we still can't figure out exactly why Cyborg is in Doom Patrol. I think Patrick has it right that Cyborg was written in as an afterthought as all his scenes could really be deleted and the story wouldn't be affected. Cyborg is the Jar-Jar Binks of Doom Patrol. Do you agree with our assessment of episode 6? Is the show weird but good for you or is it too much over the top for you to enjoy? Let us know in the comments. We are now on episode 5 of what we like to call "Why is Cyborg here". This episode is titled Paw Patrol for a reason you will find out later. At the end of episode 4 we saw Mr. Nobody forging a kinda truce with The Chief in order to stop the Decreator. The only reason Mr. Nobody agreed is if there is nothing left he can't rule over it. This episode has a lot of Crazy Jane's Doctor Harrison persona. The Chief and Mr. Nobody go back in time and have her create a cult to oppose the Decreator. Mr. Nobody names this entity.... The Recreator. Admittedly not one for catchy names. Their plan works and the Decreator is stopped from destroying all things. We get to see a little more about The Chief, like his relationship to Baphomet, A little more about Rita's emotions is dealt with, Negative Man has another pity party for himself, Robot Man does a bit more swearing, and Cyborg takes up space without really contributing again. This was not our favorite episode, but it is still a pretty good episode in comparison to other shows on TV. Doom Patrol is a weird show just like it's namesake comic book. The characters are really starting to discover themselves and we are introduced to new characters each week. We also get to see new Crazy Jayne personalities quite a bit. Doom Patrol has been a good series so far and there are still ten episodes left in the season. DC Universe has another hit on their hands with this show. DC Universe pushed out Doom Patrol episode 3 and hoo boy… It keeps getting weirder. It is weird in a good way, though. We are still wondering just what Cyborg is doing in this story. We are considering Cyborg the Jar-Jar Binks of Doom Patrol. In this episode more is revealed about Larry Trainor's relationship with the entity (Negative Man) inside him. We also get a little glimpse of the connection between the Chief and Eric Morden (Mr. Nobody). Most importantly we see the Evil Nazi mastermind that created Mr. Nobody. He has turned his skill into a theme park where prospective villains can come and pay to receive the super power they'd like to have. We are still liking the show, just not Cyborg. Again, Cyborg seems like he is forced into the story. Nothing about having Cyborg in Doom Patrol feels right. Unfortunately, it looks like we are stuck with him at least for most of Season One. Somebody please tell Batman to call him up to the Justice League so we don't have to keep seeing him. Have you been watching Doom Patrol? Are you liking the weirdness like us or do you not care for the series? Let us know in the comments. CHECK OUT THE GUYS THAT MAKE US LOOK GOOD SUBSCRIBE to watch more videos like this one! Had a rough week? The cheerfully silly, R-rated weirdness of "Doom Patrol" might be just what you need. The DC Universe show is a little bit "X-Men," a little bit 1950s monster movie, and a lot of lesson-free fun. "Doom Patrol" follows Brendan Fraser as a lumbering robot man named, uh, "Robot Man," who joins a grimly goofy team of super zeroes who live together in Doom Manor under the guardianship of their "Chief," played by Timothy Dalton. The cast includes Diane Guerrero as Crazy Jane, April Bowlby as Elasti-Girl, Matt Bomer as Negative Man, Joivan Wade as Cyborg, and Alan Tudyk as their arch-nemesis, Mr. Nobody."Doom Patrol" has drawn many "X-Men" comparisons because Chief, like Professor X, uses a wheelchair, lives in a secluded mountain and leads a team of outcasts. But the first "Doom Patrol" comic actually beat the first issue of "X-Men" by three months, back in 1963.So turn off your brain and enjoy "Doom Patrol." You'll just laugh, wince, and watch a puff of green smoke emerge from a donkey's butt, one of several butts you'll see in the first couple episodes. What would you do if you were given the opportunity to sacrifice yourself for the lives of people you don't even know?  In this reupload, Chris (@acecomics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) bow their heads to bid farewell to the World's Strangest Heroes as they shuffle (or blast!) off this mortal coil to save the lives of 14 complete strangers living in Codsville, Maine.  They also discuss some of the behind the scenes shenanigans leading up to this issue regarding the mysterious (or, not so mysterious) omission of Doom Patrol co-creator Arnold Drake! (Please note that around the four-minute mark, we refer to Arnold Drake and Leslie Waller's merged pen name (on It Rhymes With Lust) as Leslie Drake... when it was actually credited to Drake Waller) Whoops!  Wea culpa! -- ***Originally aired as a segment during Weird Science DC Comics Podcast, Episode #90 (September 25, 2016) -- You can get a hold of us at weirdcomicshistory@gmail.com -- For our weekly writings check out www.weirdsciencedccomics.com For Chris' daily writings check out www.chrisisoninfiniteearths.com For our half-hearted blog/image depository check out www.weirdcomicshistory.blogspot.com - Currently featuring pictoral evidence of EVERY (to our knowledge) pre-Crisis appearance of the enigmatic Monitor! -- Visit us on Facebook at: www.facebook.com/CosmicTMillHistory and on Twitter @CosmicTMill -- Subscribe to the show on iTunes, Stitcher, Google Play... wherever's most convenient! The title of the show has officially changed...again... Sorry about that. This title is just so much better and fitting with Phoenix's personality. In this, he talks about the title change, upcoming LIW projects including a new scripted sci-fi podcast and books, going to 98 KUPD's Battle Of The Bands and seeing a member of Goth Brooks applying make-up in the bathroom of Copper Blues, going to a man's house for an obscene amount of Christmas lights, the differences between serial killers and murderes and finally how weird Carrie Fisher's death must be for all the nerds that masturbated to her as teenagers. Phoenix then reveals weird feelings from childhood about being attracted to Natalie Portman in Leon: The Professional and then watching the movie as an adult. It gets weird. But not illegal because it's all a bit. Seriously. Check out that Goth Brooks song played on the show here: Let them know we sent you! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6i51bbQU_U
