This one is an art episode, but also a murder episode and also a madness episode. We've been saving a bunch of mail-calls for this unboxing video! Paul picked up a House of Secrets issue 1 CGC 3.5. This is the book which started the HOS run which later in issue 92, Swamp Thing makes his first appearance. The FOMO book was Thor issue 6 Second Print in a CGC 9.8. This cover shows Thanos wearing the 7th Infinity Stone which apparently is a big part of the comics story moving forward. Again, pure spec and FOMO. Jimmy went with Gargoyles 1. This is the second series produced for the Gargoyles storyline after the show was cancelled in the 90s. The series did not last long and the trade paperbacks are actually extremely rare and high priced because of the small production run. With the latest Gargoyles Dynamite series, had to add this to the collection. My Greatest Adventure #80 This is a book Jimmy has been looking for a while after watching the Doom Patrol on HBO MAX. This is the first appearance of the original Doom Patrol, with Dr. Niles Caulder, Negative Man, Elasti-girl, and Silver Age Robotman. Found a great deal after the hype died down a little as we try to not play into the FOMO aspect of the hobby. If you haven't checked out the show, do yourself a favor and please do because Diane Guerrero as Crazy Jane and Brendan Frasier as Robot Man are incredible in the show. #fomo #unboxing #comicbooks https://linktr.ee/MagicCityPodcast Appease the Algorithm Gods! Episode 9 is by far our favorite episode of season 1. This episode is very focused on Crazy Jane's mind. After her Karen persona gets pulled back into the Underground (this is what they call Jane's mind), none of the personalities wants to go to the surface (what they call being the dominant personality). This causes her body to go into a catatonic state. Robotman is able to enter her mind through Negative Man's energy. Once inside her mind we see that some of the personalities look like Jane and others do not. We are introduced to a few new personalities that haven't gone to the surface. Most of them do not like going to the surface as they find the real world stressful to deal with. We also find out that the personalities are able to commit suicide by going to the well. One of the personalities, Miranda, had done that. Miranda's station is filled with lots of dark and gory imagery. Jane is at the end of her rope and is going to visit the well to end it all. Robotman is able to track her down to the well and helps her face the root of all her problems. As a child she was sexually abused by her father. She repressed all those memories until years later she was again sexually abused by a priest at a church. This explains her hatred of the church in the Nurnheim episode. With Robotman's help, Jane is able to stave off the suicidal tendencies for now. When Jane pops back to the surface we discover the others had some sort of kerfuffle. I imagine we will find out what happened with them in a future episode. Do you agree with us that this is the best episode so far? Do you also think it should have been aired sooner in the line up? Let us know in the comments below. We have also added a Google Voice number where you can call and leave us your thoughts.  If they are good, we will use them on the show.  The number is (575) 323-1332. Welcome to Episode 153 of Broadcast Geeks! On this podcast we discuss all things geek and nerd related, provided our DVR's have space and our Netflix accounts are our own and none others.  This week, the Geeks (Jake, Jeff, Mitch and Matt Orrin)  are back in the Quantum Realm, under Mutiny Information Cafe, to discuss all things geek. Doom Patrol takes a turn for the weird this week, which says a lot for this show.  Mitch gives us the breakdown of the last episode, which features the many characters inside the head of Crazy Jane.  Cliff gets a peek inside her head, at the Underground where they all live, to find Jane and bring her back to consciousness.  We talk about how good of a job they are doing with the Cyborg character, especially as far as keeping his powers manageable and somewhat believable.   We take another stab at why Mitch doesn't like 'Horse & Sword' fantasy, with the origin story dating back to his football days and playing games in Kearney (prounounced KUR-NEE), Nebraska.  Did you know that our Mitch is a State Champion?  We didn't either, but it plays into why he doesn't like the genre.   Next up was Star Wars talk, as there was a bunch to talk about.  The new trailer was released, giving us LOTS to discuss.  Is Palpatine going to have big role in the movie?  Will Rey turn bad, and Ben good?  Which Skywalker will rise?  The Skywalkers are terrible people and demonstrate bad personal traits, such as impatience, anger, and emotional immaturity.  Well, at least the men do including Kylo, who is the son a Skywalker.  Wait...could Han also be a Skywalker?  This brought us to bounty hunters, specifically the Mandalorian, which will be released on the Disney+ streaming service debuting in November.  Which is your favorite bounty hunter in the Star Wars universe?   You can send your feedback and show topic ideas to broadcastgeeks@gmail.com. We mentioned Danny the Street a few episodes back and now we finally get to meet him.  Danny is a non-binary, gender-queer, sentient street.  He has the ability to teleport anywhere and blend into existing streets seamlessly.  He communicates through different signs on the street.  He plays host to a myriad group of characters who have been shunned by society.  In return for them living on Danny Street, they do their best to keep him happy and entertained.   Another of Crazy Jane's personalities is introduced in this episode. We meet Karen who is obsessed with romantic comedy (romcom) movies.  Every time her personality is in charge she runs off to get back together with her boyfriend just like in the movies.  We find out her powers are kinda like a hypnotizing thing where she flashes her eyes and the people immediately think what she wants. This was another episode of What is Cyborg contributing to the story.  Eight episodes in and we still believe he could be completely removed from the story with no affect on the plot.  We are really hoping we will get to see some kind of closure to the whole Chief is missing thing before the end of the season. Do you agree with us that Doom Patrol is weirdly good, but also seems to be dragging a bit right now?  Let us know in the comments.  We have also added a Google Voice number where you can call and leave us your thoughts.  If they are good, we will use them on the show.  The number is (575) 323-1332. Episode 4 of Doom Patrol drags us a little deeper into the weirdness.  Our intrepid heroes put their search for the Chief on the back burner while they help Willoughby Kipling avert the Apocalypse. Who is Willoughby Kipling?  Glad you asked. He is a member of the Knights Templar.  He uses chaos magic to get the job done.  He has a history with the Chief which is how he ends up with the Doom Patrol.  If Willoughby gives off some Constantine vibes... that is intended. Back when DC tried to keep Vertigo characters separate from their DC characters, Grant Morrison wanted to use Constantine in his Doom Patrol story.  DC Comics told him nope.  So he did the next best thing and invented a similar character to fit his needs. We get a little bit more backstory on Larry Trainor/Negative Man.  We also see Rita start using her elastic stretchy powers rather than just becoming a gelatinous blob.  Another of Crazy Jane’s personalities comes out as well. The episode ends in a cliff-hanger so we will have to wait until next week to see if the Doom Patrol is able to stop the Cult of the Unwritten Book from summoning the Decreator and ending the world as we know it. How are you liking Doom Patrol so far?  Is the weirdness enjoyable or do you find it too over the top?  Let us know in the comments.   CHECK OUT THE GUYS THAT MAKE US LOOK GOOD SUBSCRIBE to watch more videos like this one! Had a rough week? The cheerfully silly, R-rated weirdness of "Doom Patrol" might be just what you need. The DC Universe show is a little bit "X-Men," a little bit 1950s monster movie, and a lot of lesson-free fun. "Doom Patrol" follows Brendan Fraser as a lumbering robot man named, uh, "Robot Man," who joins a grimly goofy team of super zeroes who live together in Doom Manor under the guardianship of their "Chief," played by Timothy Dalton. The cast includes Diane Guerrero as Crazy Jane, April Bowlby as Elasti-Girl, Matt Bomer as Negative Man, Joivan Wade as Cyborg, and Alan Tudyk as their arch-nemesis, Mr. Nobody."Doom Patrol" has drawn many "X-Men" comparisons because Chief, like Professor X, uses a wheelchair, lives in a secluded mountain and leads a team of outcasts. But the first "Doom Patrol" comic actually beat the first issue of "X-Men" by three months, back in 1963.So turn off your brain and enjoy "Doom Patrol." You'll just laugh, wince, and watch a puff of green smoke emerge from a donkey's butt, one of several butts you'll see in the first couple episodes. www.mrcarapace.wordpress.com this week's diversion is a tete a tete with Crazy Jane, an old folk witch who we can find in a Van Morrison song, a Grant Morrison comic, in poems by W B Yeats and Amiri Baraka, in Nick Cave and Skip James murder ballads and even in modern TV series like the brilliant Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (it's a little more nuanced that that...) Crazy Jane is the subject of a portrait by a Victorian murderer locked away in a lunatic asylum for most of his life, and is a victim and a confidence trickster both, a temptress and a madwoman - Ophelia underwater and Hamlet with his sword. She's weird and strange and she's everywhere, so you've probably already met her... Hello, Jane... www.mrcarapace.wordpress.com

May 7, 2018 at the Boston Athenæum. Poets are supposed to pour their souls into their work. In so doing, however, they often adopt masks, speaking through others. This cast of characters can be extremely varied: genders are switched, professions are tried on, contrary ideas rehearsed, Phillis Wheatley hangs out with Robinson Crusoe, Sacagawea headlines with Crazy Jane. This set of readings by actors from The Poets' Theatre, which ranges from Erica Funkhouser to Alfred Lord Tennyson to Richard Howard, from the Earl of Rochester to Elizabeth Bishop to Lloyd Schwartz, reveals poets in masquerade, ventriloquizing a wide array of extraordinary individuals, even pretending to be... versions of themselves.

Shade the Changing Girl, Vol. 1 Earth Girl Made Easy From writer Cecil Castellucci and artist Marley Zarcone, Shade the Changing Girl, Vol. 1 Earth Girl Made Easy—a bold new reimagining of one of comics’ maddest and most memorable characters and part of the DC’s Young Animal imprint led by rock-star Gerard Way. Loma Shade may be from another planet, but she’s still like every other twentysomething who feels that their life is going nowhere fast. Bored out of her mind, her solution is to drop out of school, dump her boyfriend and leave her homeworld of Meta behind—courtesy of the infamous “madness coat” of renegade poet Rac Shade, which is not so much a garment as it is a multidimensional gateway. After stealing the coat and astrally projecting herself across space, Loma ends up in the body of Megan Boyer, an Earth girl who seems to have it all: youth, beauty and a conveniently damaged brain. Following her “miraculous” recovery, however, Loma finds there’s just one problem with being Megan: Everyone hates her. She was a bully who terrorized her enemies and her friends alike, and now Loma’s stuck with the consequences. To make matters worse, back on Meta there are dark forces that want Rac’s dangerously valuable coat for their own nefarious purposes, and they’re closing in on Loma’s vulnerable physical body. At the same time, the primal madness that the coat channels is slowly, irresistibly eroding Loma’s equally vulnerable soul. With two new lives to live, can this Changing Girl survive either one without losing her mind? Cecil Castellucci is the author of books and graphic novels for young adults including Boy Proof, The Plain Janes, First Day on Earth and the Eisner-nominated Odd Duck. She is currently writing Shade the Changing Girl, Vol. 1 Earth Girl Made Easy, an ongoing comic on Gerard Way's DC Young Animal imprint. Her picture book, Grandma's Gloves, won the California Book Award Gold Medal. She lives in Los Angeles. Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye Vol. 1: Going Underground DC’s classic Silver Age hero is revived in Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye Vol. 1: Going Underground, the first chapter of a trailblazing new saga from artist Michael Avon Oeming (Powers) and writers Jonathan Rivera and My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way, the visionary founder of DC’s Young Animal imprint!  Cave Carson was once the world’s greatest underground adventurer—but that was a long time ago. When he settled down with his wife, Eileen, to raise their daughter, Chloe, he traded the controls of his vehicle, the Mighty Mole Mark 1, for a desk and keyboard. Since then, Cave has led a quiet life—even with the constant distraction of his otherworldly cybernetic eye. But when a sudden illness claims Eileen’s life, Cave’s tranquil existence is shattered—and he and Chloe soon find themselves hurtling down a terrifying tunnel of danger, discovery, mayhem and madness. At the bottom of that tunnel lie secrets buried for decades—secrets that hold the key to thwarting a conspiracy that threatens to consume the surface and subterranean worlds alike. But will Cave and his intrepid team of super-spelunkers be able to overcome this new generation of evil—or is there less to this hero than meets the eye? Collects issues #1-6. Gerard Way is the Eisner Award-winning writer of The Umbrella Academy and the comics miniseries The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. He is the creative mind behind the new grassroots imprint, DC's Young Animal, whose retro-inspired lineup bridges the gap between the DC Universe and Vertigo. Way is also widely known for his former role as the lead vocalist and co-founder of the alternative rock band My Chemical Romance. Jon Rivera is a writer of comic books and graphic novels, best known for his work on DC's Young Animal. Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye, co-written by imprint founder Gerard Way, is one of the line's inaugural titles. Doom Patrol Vol. 1: Brick by Brick The spirit of Grant Morrison's groundbreaking Doom Patrol is captured in this debut series starring the cult-favorite misfits as a part of Gerard Way's new Young Animal imprint.  Flex Mentallo, Robotman, Rebis, Crazy Jane, and more are back to twist minds and take control. This new take on a classic embraces and reimagines the Morrison run's signature surrealism and irreverence. Incorporating bold, experimental art and a brash tone to match a new generation of readers, Gerard Way's Doom Patrolestablishes radical new beginnings, breaks new ground, and honors the warped team dynamic of the world's strangest heroes. This abstract and unexpected ensemble series nods at the Doom Patrol's roots by continuing to break the barriers of the traditional superhero genre. Collects issues #1-6. Doom Patrol is the flagship title of Young Animal--a four-book grassroots mature reader imprint, creatively spearheaded by Gerard Way, bridging the gap between the DCU and Vertigo, and focusing on the juxtaposition between visual and thematic storytelling. The shadow of the Bat falls over all of Gotham City, from its dark alleys to its glittering high-rises. But a new vigilante has just stepped away from that shadow, and she has her own brand of violent retribution to deal out to the city’s corrupt elites. Meet Violet Paige, a rich young celebutante with a bad attitude and a worse reputation. No one would ever suspect that this tabloid-fodder wild child has a secret hidden beneath her spoiled heiress exterior—a secret that has driven her to become the terrifying force of vengeance against her privileged peers known as Mother Panic! But even as Violet launches her all-out assault on the rich and twisted, her shaky allies threaten to betray her, and every one of Gotham’s guardians—from Batwoman to the Dark Knight himself—is hot on her trail. The good news is that The Underworld is now on a new day and time! Our live show now airs Monday nights from 10:00 pm to midnight. This puts us in FCC "Safe Harbor" hours, meaning we can play ANY music we want - without fear of FCC indecency and profanity laws! So, keep listening to The Underworld. It's just got better!!The great news is that the music featured in this episode of The Underworld will beat your ass like you owed it money. Finally making good on a promise to Mark from A Simple Complex, we played tunes from Synthetic Killing Unit, Crazy Jane, and Full Tilt. Now, the bad news. First, our two scheduled guests - Eric from Q and St1tch from Mushroomhead were given the wrong date for our interviews. So, we'll catch them another time - soon. Second, I've discovered the loss of our show of September 30, featuring Dave Ellefson of F5 (former long-time bassist for Megadeth) and Pete from Twisted Roots. Nothing I can do about it, and it sucks ass. Here's your podcast. I hope you choke on it.We TOLD you it rocks!
