As a mother of five and a grandmother of fifteen, author Karen Whiting has plenty of experience parenting. Karen's goal is to help grow wholesome families who embrace their faith. The Institute for Family Studies has concluded that shared prayer is the most powerful predictor of both relationship quality between family members and faith retention in children. Family devotional time exploring God's character together and making studying the Bible fun are ways to help your children learn to walk with the Lord. For many families, the restriction of time in the midst of busy schedules makes intentional prayer time difficult. If you don't make an effort to connect your children with faith while they are young, it will be harder to assert faith as a priority as they get older and continue the habits they were initially instilled with. Most importantly, if you establish a daily routine to walk out your faith for yourself, you will personally demonstrate how to honor Jesus in the everyday mundane. The stronger your personal walk with God is, the deeper your children will understand the heart of God and His divine purpose for our life. As Karen suggests, these methods help your kids develop a true perspective of the Christian life, rather than a two-dimensional worldview. When our identity is rooted firmly in Him, the seed of faith a parent plants are eventually nurtured into trees, bearing much fruit. Because of the difficult times, we are more aware of the good times. In her book, Growing a Peaceful Heart, Karen Whiting includes a prayer, a devotion focused on a biblical person, a devotion of a peacemaker from history, and three contemporary devotions in each week's thoughts. The end of each devotional offers you a “Today's Peace Step” challenge and encourages you to find and share peace. Our peace stories reflect everyday experiences, as well as some of the harder moments, people have faced. The book is divided into three sections inner peace, relational peace, and being a peacemaker. www.KarenWhiting.com __________________________________________________________________ Look for HOPE is Here: - at www.HOPEisHere.Today - on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/HOPEisHereToday - on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/hopeisherelex/ - on X (Twitter) - https://www.x.com/hopeisherelex - on TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@hopeisherelex - on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtJ47I4w6atOHr7agGpOuvA Help us bring HOPE and encouragement to others: - by texting the word GIVE to 833-713-1591 - by visiting https://www.hopeisheretoday.org/donate #Lexington #Kentucky #christianradio #JesusRadio #Jesus #WJMM #GregHorn #GregJHorn #suicideprevention #KentuckyRadio #HOPEisHere #Hope #HopeinJesus #FoodForThoughtFriday #MondayMotivation #FridayFeeling #Motivation #Inspiration #cupofHope #FYP #ForYouPage #SuicideAwareness

How we respond to opposition today greatly impacts how we'll respond to the opposition we'll face tomorrow. Will we become adept at quitting or stronger in perseverance? And when, in a season of weakness and fatigue, we quit—for a time, Scripture assures us it's never too late to begin again. (Scroll down for discussion/reflective questions.) This is the second episode in a four-part discussion on standing strong amidst opposition. In this episode, Jennifer Slattery and guest Karen Whiting look at two biblical characters (Ezra and Nehemiah) called to a major restoration project, their miraculous beginnings, and how God prepared them for the opposition they'd later face. When we experience opposition, we might feel overwhelmed and unprepared, but often, when we look back, we'll see how God lovingly and faithfully prepared us for this particular season. We can quiet our fears and bolster our faith by reviewing ways we've witnessed His power and by reviewing the truths He's planted into our souls. (Scroll down for discussion/reflective questions.) Military moms often need to fill the role of both mother and father to their children. During Hurricane Andrew, Karen Whiting's home was destroyed while her husband was serving overseas. Karen is no stranger to dealing with trauma. Her eleven-year-old son had a headache that lasted for over eleven years. In 2009, her husband saw a doctor regarding a lump in his breast. It was dismissed and the doctor told him to return in a year. By then, it was too late as he had stage four breast cancer. He had the BRAC2 cancer gene as did his two sisters who both survived breast cancer. Karen's husband did not survive. About 2,650 new cases in men are diagnosed each year. As an award-winning author of twenty-six books, writing and marketing coach, international speaker, and mother of five, Karen writes to help build tomorrow's wholesome families today.

And, in addition to the obvious anatomical differences, boys and girls communicate differently because their brains are structured differently. So, as good parents, we need to acknowledge these things in order to effectively communicate with our kids. Karen Whiting, a freelance writer and award-winning author of 25 nonfiction books, loves to let creativity splash onto the pages as she writes. Karen's books include Raising a Young Modern-Day Princess for parents and the popular tween series God's Girls (inspirational craft books). Her 2017 releases are 52 Weekly Devotions for Busy Families, The Gift of Bread: Recipes for the Heart and the Table, and Girl Talk Guy Talk. Karen served as a contributing writer for the parenting magazine of Focus on the Family for two years, writes a time management column for Leading Hearts Magazine, and is a regular contributor to Molly Green Magazine and The Kid's Ark. Her work has appeared in numerous publications, including Focus on the Family magazine, The Lookout, and Today's Christian Woman. Why Knowing How Boys and Girls Communicate Can Be Helpful for Parents I was told New York city now recognizes 31 different gender distinctions. Of course, this is insanity, but there is definitely a difference in how the different sexes/genders communicate with us as parents—and how we should communicate with them. By the way, I just don't buy the premise that there is any significant difference between the sex and gender of an individual. But that is an entirely different program. For the sake of today's program, we are going to accept the premise—and the general historical precedent—that, generally speaking, males and females (boys and girls) actually do communicate differently, and therefore, it would be wise to teach our kids how to effectively deal with the opposite sex. Before we can do that, we parents need to get a handle on understanding the differences in just how boys and girls actually communicate. It's very easy for one gender to infer something that the other gender isn't implying. I think understanding this will help make our parenting experience a more pleasurable and profitable one. You may be wondering what I've observed about the way the two genders communicate. Well, I am going to allow today's guest to elaborate on that subject. On today's podcast, Karen Whiting and I discuss communication as we cover the following topics: What is the purpose of Girl Talk Guy Talk? The important role your questions will play in your child's life. What are the communication differences between boys and girls? How to move beyond “just lecturing” and begin listening. Is sarcasm appropriate in a parent to child relationship? How has the digital age complicated communication among peers. Picture provided by: Bess Hamiti
