Ben had a great time talking to Kevin Curran and Mike Munro—two legends of the incredible and underrated Boston power thrash metal scene of the 1980s and 1990s. They talk about the brotherhood and musical vision behind their new super group Kingdom of Tyrants and the band's absolutely phenomenal debut album “Architects of Power.” From Ben's signature metal gushry LOL to deep dives into song development and Mike's vocal arrangements, this interview covers a lot of ground. Rather than proceed in any canned linear way, we talk about Mike's artistic development since his last record with Meliah Rage, the tour de force "Masquerade." We also explore the importance of history in Kevin's approach to song lyrics and how the timeless themes of the Guilded Age created connective tissue between each of "Architects of Power" nine tracks, including the mythological lessons of "Daedalus" and the album's epic "Ghosts of Industry." We also hear from the band's manager and videographer par excellence, Rudy Childs! Exploring the early origins of Steel Assassin and Mike's early band Speed Limit, some great stories and laughs are shared as they drink brews and talk metal past and present. Samples of songs on this episode appear in this order: Introduction: Daedalus (from Architects of Power by Kingdom of Tyrants) II. History Will Tell (from Masquerade by Meliah Rage) III. Human rights are increasingly taking center stage in Sino-European relations, supplanting the economic impacts that had previously held primacy. Indeed, as quickly as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Chinese FDI, and the 17+1 platform ignited the hopes of the Central European region and its leaders, the human rights issue and revelations from the Xinjiang region have just as quickly soured public opinion. At the 32nd anniversary of the Tiananmen massacre, there are certainly no fewer human rights issues to tackle beyond just Xinjiang, but Tibet, Inner Mongolia, and even beyond China's generally accepted borders. To parse the important aspects of human rights issues' heightened profile, Eyck Freymann joins the latest episode to add his opinion on the trajectory of this topic as well as insights on the transatlantic angle in the human rights debate on China. More and more employees now use their own personal devices for work, and 2020 saw a particular spike in this behaviour. But what many people don't know is that your employer is legally entitled to monitor your activity on any device that you use to do your job. This raises a number of thorny issues, such as where the line is between security and surveillance, and whether it's a violation of employee's privacy to keep tabs on what they're doing with their phone or PC. In this week's episode, we speak to Kevin Curran, senior IEEE member and professor of cybersecurity at Ulster University, to get his take on these issues, as well as just how much safety this approach offers. To learn more about these topics, head to http://bit.ly/ITPP-spy.

As Serbia continues to pursue a multi-vector strategy that heavily relies upon China and China itself further highlights cooperation in the Balkans not only on vaccines, but in infrastructure investment along the Belt and Road, as it did in the most recent 17+1 summit, curious eyes are increasingly drawn to China's activities in the region. However, the cooperation across the broader Western Balkan region has not been without issues, especially as activists complain of environmental damage along China's flagship project in the Balkans and governments, like that of Montenegro, fall into insurmountable debt to China's Exim Bank. She read English at Oxford where she became friends with Richard Curtis and Rowan Atkinson. After graduating, she became a BBC trainee, travelling to Africa for Comic Relief. She later made documentaries for Thames TV before moving into print journalism. Today I am excited to share my interview with Amy Lincoln! I met up with Amy in Queens, NY where she lives/works and I felt like I was sitting down with a good friend even though I had never met her. I love that this interview keeps it really real because Amy has a 4mth old baby and a 4-year-old. This is the place where she creates, paints and has her family and I love that you can hear it in the interview. We talk about how she came to the work she is making, working with Urban Outfitters, her murals in two Starbucks in NYC, her involvement in the arts community and her advice to artists.   Amy received an MFA in Painting from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, and a BA in Studio Art from the University of California, Davis. Lincoln moved to New York in 2006 upon receiving a Swing Space residency from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. She has also participated in residencies at the Inside Out Art Museum in Beijing as well as Wave Hill in the Bronx. Lincoln grew up in the quiet, tree-lined suburbs of Portland, Oregon. Today she lives in Glendale, Queens with her husband, artist Kevin Curran, and their daughter Fiona.   LINKS: Amy Lincoln Website https://amylincoln.com/ Amy Lincoln Instagram https://www.instagram.com/amyplincoln/ Kevin Curran https://kevinandrewcurran.com/home.html Studio Noize Podcast https://www.studionoizepodcast.com/listen Studio Visit Artist & Submission https://www.erikabhess.com/ilikeyourworkstudiovisit Where Should We Begin Podcast https://www.estherperel.com/podcast Starbucks Murals: 195 Broadway 48th Ave/3rd Ave

Over the summer, we’ve been doing a monthly residency at the Bullitt Hotel in Belfast and it produced a fascinating discussion on the future of work. We were joined on the night by Adrienne Hanna from Right Revenue, Kevin Curran, Professor of Cyber Security at the University Of Ulster, and Philip Brady from Citibank to talk about how groundbreaking developments in technology and artificial intelligence will mean many changes for workplaces in the years and decades to come. Are any our jobs safe from the robots? Indeed, will Banter in 2027 just feature a bunch of robots having a chat about pesky humans? The sound quality on the podcast you’re about to hear may well have been better had it been a robot rather than me in charge of things so apologies for this.
