November 4th has been declared an International Day of Solidarity with Palestine. Over 100 demonstrations will take place that day around the world in solidarity with Palestine, from Johannesburg to São Paulo, Berlin to Kuala Lampur, Athens to Algiers. Meanwhile demonstrations have continued across the world every day. All of this organizing and action flies in the face of the prevailing Western narrative that the world stands with Israel.Washington, DC will be the site of a giant demonstration as part of that International Day of Solidarity. Dozens of organizations are mobilizing people on trains, buses, in carpools and even by plane to attend from as far away as Dallas, TX and San Juan, Puerto Rico. We're joined by Sean Blackmon, a DC- based organizer with the ANSWER Coalition who's mobilizing for November 4th in the city.Support the show

No longer do you need to worry if your mobile phones are near or far from telecom towers. No longer do you need to think about whether you'll get internet access when you are vacationing in some far off place, away from civilization, or up on a mountain or on a cruise ship far away from land.In this episode, Syed Ayan, a fourth grader from Kuala Lampur, Malaysia, explains how all of this will soon come true. He will also explain the story of OneWeb - the company that has launched satellites into space, to bring us this connectivity. Also, to help us make sense of how these satellites work, is a curious adult (and a child at heart) Aditya - who spends some part of his time tinkering with things at Texas Instruments and helps them do stuff that makes 4G and 5G work.Together, Syed and Aditya piece the story of how OneWeb's satellites that were recently launched by the Indian Space Agency ISRO, will help us access faster data speeds.Support the showTo subscribe for your free copy of the newsletter: please click hereIf you would like to get whatsapp alerts about new episodes: please click here To speak on the show as a co-host: follow us on Instagram to find out how If you like what you're listening to, please do support us by contributing whatever you like, and for some exclusive benefitsSend us your comments at hello@wsnt.in.

Alysha has the pleasure of meeting Marc Canter all because she listened to her “Spidey Sense” after Erica O'Grady (Episode 8) told her about Jeff Pulver's networking group (Episode 15) which is how they connected. However, it was after the biggest myrony that connected Daniel Kottke from last week's episode (Episode 17) that Alysha knew meeting Marc was for a greater reason. Hear the continued story from last week's episode of the early days of Silicon Valley where Canter shares about his experience with Jobs and how Canter's software MacroMind (which later became Macromedia) was also in the first Apple Computers. Canter shares his extremely colorful history in the software world including his claim to fame with video games (remember Professor Pac-Man?) and his meeting with Bill Gates…we know even if you are not into computers will appreciate the story he shares. Canter finally explains about his latest creativity & entertainment tool known as Instigate.ai where we will be able to tell a “story” with AI that we get to create. Is this going to be the next big thing after Instagram and Tik Tok? We hope so because for those that are tired of just selfies, Instigate.ai is the answer & more myronies could be shared!! About the Guest:Marc Canter is a software entrepreneur, who co-founded MacroMind (in 1984 in Chicago), which became Macromedia [MACR.] Because of Marc's tireless work, enthusiastic evangelism and creative leadership - Marc is known as "one of the fathers of multimedia."After Macromedia Marc created an Interactive Music Video Band (MediaBand) w/Todd Rungren, created an Interactive TV Talk Show and a venue based Operating system (MediaBar) all leading up to "the Internet." At that time Marc's product Director - was directly responsible for creating 85% of the world's multimedia and generating 100,000's of digital media jobs and production entities.Marc focused on broadband solutions during the early days of the Internet - traveling to London, Amsterdam, Japan and Italy, building "Interactive TV" systems and Digital City prototypes - all leading up to the development of a "white labeled Social Networking" platform (called PeopleAggregator) which he utilized to build 27 different social networks - between '03-'09. The 00's also had Marc getting heavily involved in the rights of User's to their Data and a group called "the Identity Gang."In '09 Marc picked up his family and moved to Cleveland, after having lived and worked in the SF/Bay Area for 27 years. Marc created an "economic development" platform (called "the Digital City Project") which he took out on the road to Amsterdam, Kuala Lampur, Jamaica, Tampa, FL, Kansas City and other cities. Marc's family then moved to Charlotte, NC - where he started yet ANOTHER startup, which originally focused on IoT Authoring tools, but pivoted into an entirely new kind of Messaging App - called Cola.Cola brought Marc back to SF - where he eventually started "Instigate, Inc." which is developing a new kind of "conversational storytelling" tool. Marc is an expert of taking ideas from Zero to One and has been helping software startups develop and grow their companies for over 30 years. Marc is a leader, an interdisciplinary thinker, a Dad and a loving husband to his wife, 5 kids and one granddaughter.Instigate.ai = websitehttps://www.facebook.com/Cantervision = Facebook grouphttps://www.facebook.com/marccanter =...

From a 4 month stint (turned into 11 years) in the Middle East to another position in Kuala Lampur, his experience conducting business in various international assignments showed that taking culture norms into consideration is crucial in being successful. For someone with over 3 decades at the same company, he explains that it is teamwork that allows people to have such long and great careers at Gyrodata. He discusses he focuses on the strengths of his teammates, not the weaknesses, for if you focus on the strengths, the weaknesses will be filled in with other people's talents. His message for the audience is: never stop learning and it isn't your induvial achievements that are important, it's how well you can operate as a team. He concludes it with a rather funny story from his travels abroad at a dinner in China where he didn't know the language and they didn't know his.

It is an interesting case study in the use of big data because it demonstrates the critical role human judgement played in the analysis. The role of human judgement in autonomous systems and the ethics that should guide those judgements will be the subject of our next episode. An unseasonable cool front nailed China just as that nasty snowstorm hit the eastern seaboard of the US of A. We got awesome, sub-70s weather in Bangkok, which was a welcome change. And no, we don’t spend the whole show talking about the weather. Because boring. We share two stories on today’s program, one from Bangkok, Thailand and one from Puducherry, India: 1. Shoeless In Siam Music credit: Upbeat Forever by Kevin MacLeod Bangkok is a shoe-obsessed city. People spend thousands of baht (do the conversion yourself) on shoes of all shapes and sizes. Which is weird for Evo, as he’s happy wearing his Chacos everywhere. And which is weird for Sheila, because wearing shoes inside is a no-no. Even in a job interview, as she soon found out. 2. Scratching The Travel Itch  Music credit: Leopard Print Elevator by Kevin MacLeod We hadn’t considered the effect of peer pressure on helping people to travel, but Smriti Modi is counting on it. That’s the gist behind her  travel startup, The Itch List (http://www.theitchlist.com/) . As she says, it’s sort of like a bucket list, but filled with things you’ll actually do. She also shares one of her favorite places to travel in her own home country. We’re off to Kuala Lampur in a few days, so we’re sure to have stories to tell you next week of that adventure. But we’re also going back to Pattaya Beach with some friends who have a drinking problem (we may be that drinking problem) so there’s a chance we’ll forget. Or have something even more interesting to related. Such is our new life! And That's The Show! Globalization Watch: Stop the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) “Through this agreement, the Obama Administration is seeking to boost U.S. economic growth and support the creation and retention of high-quality American jobs by increasing exports in a region that includes some of the world's most robust economies and that represents more than 40 percent of global trade.”[1] Statement from the Office of the United States Trade Representative “I think we need to look at the Trans-Pacific Partnership as the neo-liberal arm of the US pivot at Asia. So we have all these countries in South East Asia that basically have more incentive to do business with China….Many policy papers state the importance of South-East Asia in …counterbalancing the influence of China in the region. So that is what I perceive the TPP to be.”  Nile Bowie Lost in the wake of headlines about controversies surrounding Canadian Senators' housing and living expenses and allegations of a Toronto big city Mayor ailing from an apparent crack addiction, is the important negotiations on a major trade and investment deal taking place in Lima, Peru this past week. The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) had its origins in the 2005 Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership Agreement or the P4 which involved the countries of Brunei, Chile, New Zealand, and Singapore, and was aimed at liberalizing trade in those countries. There are currently twelve negotiating partners in this comprehensive pact. In addition to the P4, and the US there are Australia, Peru, Vietnam, and Malaysia, with Mexico and Canada having joined the negotiations last October and Japan jumping on board in March. [5], [6] TPP is the latest in a string of numerous free trade agreements that proponents say will generate increased economic activity between and within countries thereby leading to greater prosperity for citizens. [7] Critics of the North American Free Trade Agreement, and its numerous successors argue however that these agreements really are not about trade. They are mechanisms by which corporations with international reach can overcome barriers, regulations, and other restrictions on their profit-making activities. [8] Three critics from three separate countries explain their concerns in this week's instalment of the Global Research News Hour. Stuart Trew, Trade Campaigner for the Ottawa-based Council of Canadians provides his group's analysis not only of the TPP, but also the Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement and the Canada-China Foreign Investment Protection Agreement (FIPA). Kristen Beifus of the Washington Fair Trade Coalition dissects the impacts of free trade on Americans and the concerns specific to the TPP. Kuala Lampur-based Nile Bowie provides his analysis of TPP in terms of its impacts on Malaysia where elections have recently been held. His commentaries on TPP appear on the globalresearch website.
