Bill Donohue was Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Air Force in 1970, and began his teaching career in 1973 working at St. Lucy's School in Spanish Harlem. In 1977, he took a position as a college professor teaching at La Roche College in Pittsburgh. In 1980, Bill was awarded his Ph.D. in sociology from New York University. In 2022, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from Ave Maria School of Law. Bill is the author of ten books and thousands of articles. His first book, The Politics of the American Civil Liberties Union, was published in 1985. His next book, The New Freedom: Individualism and Collectivism in the Social Lives of Americans, was written while Bill was a Bradley Resident Scholar at The Heritage Foundation; it appeared in 1990. Bill's third book, Twilight of Liberty: The Legacy of the ACLU, was published in 1994; a new afterword to this book was published in 2001. His next book, Secular Sabotage: How Liberals are Destroying Religion and Culture in America, was published in 2009. Why Catholicism Matters: How Catholic Virtues Can Reshape Society in the 21st Century was published in 2012. This was followed by The Catholic Advantage: Why Health, Happiness, and Heaven Await the Faithful; it was published in 2015. In 2016, Unmasking Mother Teresa's Critics was published. Common Sense Catholicism: How to Resolve Our Cultural Crisis, was published in 2019. The Truth About Clergy Sexual Abuse: Clarifying the Facts and Causes was published in 2021. His latest book, War on Virtue: How the Ruling Class is Killing the American Dream was published in 2023 (Sophia Institute Press) .https://www.amazon.com/War-Virtue-Rul... In this monumental book by one of the Church's greatest contemporary defenders, Bill Donohue explains how the ruling class is systematically undermining the virtues that have built Western civilization and producing a “moral holocaust” that the traditional family cannot withstand. These radical elites have rejected the idea of personal sin and replaced it with social injustice. They've rejected traditional values and replaced them with a dangerously misguided individualism that is misusing our liberties to destroy freedom as we've known it. In his incomparable, no-holds-barred style, Donohue offers a commonsense solution to restoring the virtues in the workplace and defending universal morality. You will learn the hard-hitting truth about the dangers of multiculturalism, the “blame America” campaign, the Black Lives Matter movement, and Critical Race Theory. In 2023, Bill starred in, and was co-executive producer of, a documentary on Disney, titled, Walt's Disenchanted Kingdom. Bill is the president and CEO of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, the nation's largest Catholic civil rights organization. The publisher of the Catholic League journal, Catalyst, he served for two decades on the board of directors of the National Association of Scholars. He writes regular columns for CNSNews.com and Newsmax.com. Bill also serves on the advisory boards of many organizations, including the Society of Catholic Social Scientists, and the Christian Film & Television Commission. Winner of several teaching awards, and many awards from the Catholic community, Bill has appeared on thousands of television and radio shows speaking on civil liberties, social issues, and religion. In 2022, he was named by the U.K.'s Catholic Herald as one of the top 250 Catholic leaders in the U.S. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/john-aidan-byrne0/support

Dr. Sanj Katyal is a radiologist and a student of positive psychology.  He wrote the book that he wished he had read 20 years ago and he in order to share what he has learned with us.  He combines the philosophy of the ancient stoics and Bhagavad Gita with the relatively new, science-backed positive psychology to help us live our best lives.  We cover the trap of hedonic adaptation and how this applies to physician finances and how this concept can cause an initially exciting profession to become mundane, and how to resist this.  We also discuss why we should all be meditating, practicing gratitude, and negative visualization – picturing yourself without to appreciate what you have.  Our discussion just scratches the surface and for more, read the book to learn how to achieve what the stoics called eudaimonia – the state of human flourishing. Dr. Katyal holds a Bachelor of Science with University Honors in Chemical and Biomedical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a Medical Degree from New York University School of Medicine. He is the Founder of Positive Psychology Program for Physicians and President of Optimal Life Imaging Group, PC. Dr. Katyal also holds certifications in Positive Psychology and Positive Psychology Coaching from Whole Being Institute. This episode is an encore presentation as part of our special series, "9/11: A Generation Removed." https://traffic.libsyn.com/secure/shapingopinion/A_Shanksville_Story_at_20.mp3 It's been 17 years since America experienced the deadliest terrorist attack in its history. These were American Airlines Flight 11, and United Airlines Flight 175. Another jet slammed into the western side of the U.S. Pentagon. This was American Airlines Flight 77. A fourth plane never made it to its intended target. United Airlines Flight 93 crashed into a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. It has been widely reported that the terrorist attack failed because the crew and passengers on Flight 93 fought back. During the early eighteenth century, three phratries or tribes (Turtle, Turkey, and Wolf) of Delaware Indians left their traditional homeland in the Delaware River watershed and moved west to the Allegheny Valley of western Pennsylvania and eventually across the Ohio River into the Muskingum River valley. As newcomers to the colonial American borderlands, these bands of Delawares detached themselves from their past in the east, developed a sense of common cause, and created for themselves a new regional identity in western Pennsylvania. The Western Delaware Indian Nation, 1730-1795: Warriors and Diplomats is a case study of the western Delaware Indian experience, offering critical insight into the dynamics of Native American migrations to new environments and the process of reconstructing social and political systems to adjust to new circumstances. The Ohio backcountry brought to center stage the masculine activities of hunting, trade, war-making, diplomacy and was instrumental in the transformation of Delaware society and with that change, the advance of a western Delaware nation. This nation, however, was forged in a time of insecurity as it faced the turmoil of imperial conflict during the Seven Years' War and the backcountry racial violence brought about by the American Revolution. The stress of factionalism in the council house among Delaware leaders such as Tamaqua, White Eyes, Killbuck, and Captain Pipe constantly undermined the stability of a lasting political western Delaware nation. This narrative of western Delaware nationhood is a story of the fight for independence and regional unity and the futile effort to create and maintain an enduring nation. In the end the western Delaware nation became fragmented and forced as in the past, to journey west in search of a new beginning. The Western Delaware Indian Nation, 1730-1795: Warriors and Diplomats is an account of an Indian people and their dramatic and arduous struggle for autonomy, identity, political union, and a permanent homeland. Richard S. Grimes is currently adjunct faculty at La Roche College and Community College of Allegheny County. Description courtesy of Lehigh University Press.

Results From Thinking President, Chuck Bolena, interviews Andrew Lazarchik, the creator and designer of WWE Wretsling Championship belts. Rare is a story of a childhood fantasy becoming a reality like this one!  Wildcat Championship Belts was a dream for a small town boy from Latrobe, Pennsylvania.  Andrew Lazarchik’s interest in championship belts started when he was a child back in the 1980’s.  He was a huge wrestling fan watching many of the great legends like Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, 'Macho Man' Randy Savage, and all the superstars of that era every Saturday morning.  Andrew graduated from La Roche College with a degree in graphic design, and it was here where his passion met with opportunity.  The college hosted a pro wrestling fundraiser show, and Andrew was introduced to the promoter of the show, who soon introduced him to several business people in the pro wrestling arena.  This was Andrew's first ‘in’ into the world of pro wrestling, and over time got involved with refereeing, ring announcing as well as managing and promoting. Over the years, Andrew has produced numerous Championship Belts for the WWE and his custom designed belts have landed in the hands of famous legends such as the Rock, Hulk Hogan, and Zack Ryder.  He has expanded his market to corporations and businesses, and has created corporate trophy belts for companies such as Coca-Cola, Redbull, Verizon, FedEx, and Google.   You can see his work by visiting www.wildcatbelts.com.

As the Country Manager of Visa Rwanda, Lucy Mbabazi oversees operations in Rwanda, Burundi and Malawi. Prior to this role, she led the implementation of Visa—Government of Rwanda Public Private Partnership initiatives, established to lay the foundation for the digitization of Rwanda's economy and financial inclusion. Mbabazi has also served as Policy and Strategy Advisor to the Head of Information Technology at the Rwanda Development Board, the coordinating body of all Government of Rwanda ICT initiatives. There she led the development of Rwanda's National ICT Plan, guiding Rwanda's transformation into the vision of an ICT driven society. Mbabazi is also President of Girls in ICT Rwanda, a group of professional women working to inspire more Rwandan young women to pursue careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). She holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and Management from La Roche College and a Master of Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. In this episode of the podcast, Mbabazi discusses the importance of mentoring so that young women realize their potential and the significance of inclusion in both corporate leadership and access to financial services.   Key Interview Takeaways Successful businesswomen must mentor girls and young women, inspiring them to see the “realm of possibilities.” Mbabazi didn't have aspirations beyond working as an executive assistant until Leslie Hale, CFO at RLJ, told her, “You can't be my secretary. You have so much potential.” Hale's encouragement motivated Mbabazi to apply to an Ivy League graduate school and led to her current success. Current leadership must be a part of the movement toward inclusion. Until men acknowledge the fundamental problem and deliberately make decisions to include women and minorities, inequality will continue to breed tension and further divide society. Inclusion is also Mbabazi's mission in her role at Visa. She is working to make financial services available to everyone in Rwanda through innovation around the basic cellular devices that most people own. Rather than having to travel five kilometers to reach a bank, the mobile phone is the bank, and everyone has access to the financial services they need to help them grow. Widespread access to financial services is not only good for individual account holders, it is also essential for the governments in emerging markets. To fund development, governments rely on money in the bank, and the digitization of financial services allows a developing country to fund its treasury. As a result, that country is mobilizing its own resources rather than waiting for an NGO to build schools or provide water.
