Real healing starts when you listen to more than just your symptoms. Mary Sanders learned this early, growing up with hearing loss and tuning into the world in a different way. After building a successful chiropractic practice, burnout pushed her to explore meditation, positive psychology, and eventually, medical intuition. Mary now helps people tap into the real, often hidden causes of anxiety and depression by reading and balancing their energy fields. If you're feeling stuck, disconnected, or weighed down, her approach shows how tuning into your intuition could be the key to finding your way back.   About Dr. Mary Sanders: With a wealth of experience as a self-employed Medical Intuitive and Chiropractor, Dr. Mary is deeply committed to guiding individuals on their journey of personal transformation. — The world is constantly nudging us—pulling, pushing, cajoling us—toward our heart's longing and our true expression of joy. Yet our conditioned mindsets can resist these gentle but insistent signals, too often dismissing synchronicity and serendipity—the very language of this magic—as little more than accident or annoyance. Playful but potent, Be the Magic nudges us, too, showing us how to open ourselves to this ever-present guidance to live a more peaceful, passion-filled, and enthusiastic life. With deep wisdom and a light-hearted tongue, Diane Pienta serves up personal stories and lessons learned, in a collection of uplifting and actionable daily practices designed to train us—our minds, our bodies, and our hearts—to become joyfully tuned-in to the guidance presented to us at every turn. Pienta's clear, strong vision provokes us to fully recognize that we inhabit this beautiful planet for a mere blink of an eye, and Be the Magic shows us that when this grand realization is nourished by small daily acts, our magic inevitably blooms—in our own lives, in the lives of others, and in the world herself. Valeria interviews Diane Pienta — The author of “Be the Magic: Bite-Sized Nuggets of Wisdom to Feed your Joy, Nourish your Soul and Open your Heart.” Diane is also a forest therapy guide, healer and creativity mentor who loves to help others reclaim and share their unique gifts through spiritual tools of all types. Her life is devoted to Nature, Creativity, Connection & Community. A passion for helping others has been a thread throughout her previous 25-year business career in the hospitality, consulting and real estate fields.  A cancer diagnosis, chronic infections and subsequent adrenal burnout redirected her to a spiritual and alternative path of healing.  She credits the power of Nature, Creativity, Energy Medicine, Sound and Spirituality with her health and loves to share so that others can live a vibrant, joyful life. Diane spent the last 20 years experiencing, studying and sharing numerous healing modalities and she intuitively weaves Nature, Art, Writing, Sound and Movement in her work. She understands how knowing one's gifts and sharing them with the world is a pathway to peace and healing. Offering forest therapy walks, qigong classes, writing and creativity workshops, sound healing sessions and individual coaching sessions, Diane creates space for others to play and discover their own innate wisdom.  She has deep compassion for people who are in transition periods and loves assisting others to “unlearn” limiting beliefs and patterns. As a writer, Diane uses words to heal and create peace. She loves and honors the land deeply and is devoted to help others reclaim their connection to this magical world. In her spare time, she can often be found hugging a tree at sunrise, dancing with the moon, fiddling, felting or gathering wonder-makers to frolic and picnic at sunset. In addition to her healing certifications, she holds a BS from Cornell University, a certification in Positive Psychology from Whole Being Institute and has studied at the Radcliffe Institute. Right, so that's my that's my honor, as a medical intuitive, that's what I got to do these days. Dr. Mary Sanders  33:47 So, clinicians, if you're listening to me, and you're like, Oh, well, you mean that that patient that I'm treating for elbow pain, might be having issues with their neck in relation to their expression. That's exactly what I'm saying. Dr. Mary Sanders  42:17 I know I have to create the environment for individuals to come back into self and again, through their self-do the regulation to increase their levels of consciousness, in order to hold space for all that is happening within this world. And really, that's the most important thing that we can do is to come back to yourself, and to trust yourself, and listen to the information that you are receiving.   ABOUT DR MARY SAUNDERS: Dr. Mary has over 25+ years of experience as a self-employed business woman and consultant … AND 15 years ago, she experienced burnout firsthand and crashed hard! He was stepping out of his comfort zone, after college going to teach English to Holocaust survivors, when he had a panic attack on the plane. To calm himself, he took out a spiral notebook and wrote a challenge to himself to do one thing a day that scared him. — “My passion is to help others transform their lives using the tools I've acquired and implemented from the Certification in Positive Psychology course and as a Positive Psychology Coach. I hope that as they learn and live these practices they will serve and lead too. I've gone on to create Meet-up groups, speak to organizations, podcasts, work with children in schools, created a postcard campaign, published newspaper articles, lead workshops/retreats, conduct coaching sessions, and I cannot wait to see what else is in store for me. I believe so much in the transformational power of this work that my once reserved shy self cannot help but speak up. This is not just a movement of the self, it is a movement beyond the self in service of the greater good. As we, the tiny ripples move out and become agents of change, we create a tidal wave of positivity, light, and happiness out into the world. “ – Writes Natalie Valeria interviews Natalie Hoerner — the author of “Gratitude: A Journal Of The Heart” Natalie Hoerner is also the founder of Gifts of Gratitude and a coach. Dr. Sanj Katyal is a radiologist and a student of positive psychology.  He wrote the book that he wished he had read 20 years ago and he in order to share what he has learned with us.  He combines the philosophy of the ancient stoics and Bhagavad Gita with the relatively new, science-backed positive psychology to help us live our best lives.  We cover the trap of hedonic adaptation and how this applies to physician finances and how this concept can cause an initially exciting profession to become mundane, and how to resist this.  We also discuss why we should all be meditating, practicing gratitude, and negative visualization – picturing yourself without to appreciate what you have.  Our discussion just scratches the surface and for more, read the book to learn how to achieve what the stoics called eudaimonia – the state of human flourishing. Dr. Katyal holds a Bachelor of Science with University Honors in Chemical and Biomedical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a Medical Degree from New York University School of Medicine. He is the Founder of Positive Psychology Program for Physicians and President of Optimal Life Imaging Group, PC. Dr. Katyal also holds certifications in Positive Psychology and Positive Psychology Coaching from Whole Being Institute. He has published and lectured extensively on well-being and the Science of Happiness to audiences ranging from college students to physicians. His research interests include developing a new model of optimal wellness incorporating principles from psychology, organizational leadership, health neuroscience and medicine. He is also investigating the effectiveness of positive psychology interventions on physician wellness/burnout. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at La Roche College teaching the class “How to Flourish: Lessons from Positive Psychology”. He is the author of the Amazon #1 Best Seller Positive Philosophy: Ancient and Modern Wisdom to Create a Flourishing Life released in the fall of 2018.  Dr. Katyal lives with his family in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. El cambio de paradigma no se trata solo de cambiar objetivos sino también de transformar la narrativa, la academia y hasta la política. La psicología positiva puede mostrar un camino al resto de las profesiones de la salud, además de que en sus conceptos y prácticas hay mucho de donde sacar para la construcción de los nuevos paradigmas de salud y bienestar. Arlen Solodkin es licencia en psicología y maestra en psicología positiva por la Universidad de Pensilvania. We interviewed him about that in February of 2019. If you haven’t already listened to it, be sure to check it out. He’s taken it a step further and created a course: THRIVE RX: A PRACTICAL GUIDE TO FLOURISHING FOR PHYSICIANS BY PRACTICING PHYSICIANS. Thrive-Rx is a collaboration with four physician experts to bring you “the course that we wish we had taken in medical school.” Sound familiar? It covers the key components of flourishing: personal well-being (heal the healer), professional fulfillment (reclaim joy in medicine), success (get what you want), and financial independence (work on your own terms). The Thrive-Rx team created this course for two main reasons. The first goal is to equip physicians with new tools, training and practical strategies that allow them to reclaim more joy and meaning from medicine. The other goal is to help physicians teach these principles to their patients and families. And they are all still in practice, practicing what they preach. A lot of our discussion focuses on attention and why that’s the key to flourishing, using our time and attention most efficiently by outsourcing and minimizing distraction. Dr. Katyal is the Founder of Positive Psychology Program for Physicians and President of Optimal Life Imaging Group, PC. In school growing up, Marc Cardon had been repeatedly bullied and mocked In school because teachers and students thought he looked “Native American.” So, it’s hardly surprising that when he first became engaged with social justice activism, he developed tactics rooted in anger and fear. When Marc was first exposed to positive psychology, he was skeptical. He knew that fear and anger had been effective strategies for him and for social movements in general to accomplish their goals. But where could positive emotions like joy fit into the picture? And could these positive emotions help fuel a social movement and the individuals who make it up? He enrolled in the Certificate in Positive Psychology Program offered by the Whole Being Institute to investigate where positive psychology can overlap with social justice. In this episode, Marc talks about: - The challenge in finding the right balance between positive and negative emotions in social justice work. - The value of positive emotions and rituals to building a sense of community, enabling individuals and movements to sustain themselves, especially when the work gets difficult. - How The Joy Revolution, the organization he co-founded, “teaches change-agents, luminaries, and other do-gooders how to create positive social impact and lasting change through an expanded experience of joy.”Resources:Videos:A Revolution of Joy / Marc Cordon / Speakers Who Dare NYC 2019. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbmdJjfJFMIHow to Have Extraordinary Growth on Ordinary Days | Marc Cordon | TEDxFarmingdale. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkn31_553L8&t=369s Organizations:The Joy Revolution. https://joyrevolution.com/ Books:Beyond Resilient: The Coach's Guide to Ecstatic Growth. https://www.amazon.com/Beyond-Resilient-Coachs-Ecstatic-Growth-ebook/dp/B076JK4SBJAuthors/theories mentioned in the episode:Victor Frankl - Man’s Search for MeaningCharles Snyder, Hope TheoryCarol Dweck, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success

As a positive psychologist (Psy.D.) Maria Sirois focuses on the resilience of the human spirit, particularly when under chronic stress, during significant transitions, and/or feeling the shock of wholesale change. As she describes it in the interview: "My understanding of those who choose to work in the arena of social justice is that they're willing to face a kind of chronic overwhelming stress whether you're looking at social justice on behalf of the planet and climate change or other species or social justice in terms of humanity in general — those organizations tend to have a chronic steady state of stress with periodic peaks of acute crisis... [my work is about] how do we do well in the worst moments... what does thriving look like? And who might we be at our best?"Maria brings a depth of experience in personal and leadership development for corporate and non‐profit professionals, as well as community members, parents, and those who serve in the health and wellness arenas. In this episode, Maria focuses on three positive psychology and organizational tools:  - Establishing a gratitude practice. Expressing gratitude at work not only is a good thing to do but also benefits individuals and organizations in specific and surprising ways. - Appreciative inquiry. Instead of asking what's going wrong how did we fail who's responsible for it, organizations using an appreciative inquiry approach are “inquiring toward the good”: what is going right and how do we have good things happen more often?  - Identifying and leading from personal and organizational strengths. Rather than “fixing” what’s wrong with yourself or your organization, why not put more attention into what you already do well? Recognizing and using your strengths is a more efficient and effective fan fixing what is wrong.Resources mentioned in this episode:VIA Character Strengths https://www.viacharacter.org/David Cooperider, Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Universityhttps://www.davidcooperrider.com/Sonjia Lyubomirsky, University University of California, Riverside http://sonjalyubomirsky.com/Robert Emmons, Greater Good Science Center, University of Californiahttps://greatergood.berkeley.edu/profile/robert_emmonsBarbara Fredrickson at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill https://www.pursuit-of-happiness.org/history-of-happiness/barb-fredrickson/Maria Sirois, VP of Curriculum, Whole Being Institute https://wholebeinginstitute.com/maria-sirois/

Tal Ben-Shahar is the Co-founder of the Wholebeing Institute, the Happiness Studies Academy, and PotentialLife. He's the New York Times bestselling author of Happier: Learn the Secrets to Daily Joy and Lasting Fulfillment, Choose the Life You Want: 101 Ways to Create Your Own Road to Happiness, and the new book Short Cuts to Happiness: Life-Changing Lessons from My Barber.   Podcast Highlights Who is Tal Ben-Shahar? Tal was bitten by the happiness spider in college while studying computer science in Harvard. While doing rather well academically and socially he found himself to be quite unhappy, so he decided to switch majors to Philosophy and Psychology to pursue the answers to two questions: “why aren’t I happy?” and “how can I become happier?” He became focused on how he can help himself, individuals, organizations, and nations increase their happiness. Tal felt that he wouldn’t be able to find the answers he was looking for in code, so he started looking to ancient wisdom from many people in the past. We’re told we should become successful and then we’ll be happy, but that’s something called the Arrival Fallacy. Success will at best give us a short lived spike in happiness, we need to do other things to increase our levels of well being. The Secret to Happiness Happiness is tough to define but we know it when we feel it. You can tell when you are going through good times and bad times. It’s also important to differentiate between happiness and pleasure, because they are not the same thing. Meaning and purpose are major components of happiness, but they aren’t the whole picture. There is no one secret to happiness. You can feel committed and driven, but still be generally unhappy. Physical wellbeing, curiosity, as well as emotional and interpersonal wellbeing. Striving towards happiness is no different than other goals, you have to put in the work and invest in the effort. The journey can also be as fulfilling as the destination. You have to strive for something that is meaningful to you, that you can also enjoy the journey of getting there. What do you mean by the levels of happiness? When someone asks Tal if he’s happy, his answer is “I don’t know.” He can say he’s happier than he was in the past, but happiness is a journey that ends when life does. We can always strive for more, but we have to accept that there are ups and downs. One of the first lessons that Tal learned is that he first step is to allow yourself to feel unhappy and embrace the negative experiences that are inevitable in life. Don’t compare yourself to an unattainable, unrealistic ideal. When you accept negative emotions and difficulties, you open yourself up to happiness. When you reject negative emotions, they intensify. Taking action when faced with difficulties is the only viable next step. Engaging in things that are meaningful and relationships are the other major components of happiness. Spending time with people that you care about and that care about you is the best predictor of overall happiness and wellbeing. What are the things that are preventing entrepreneurs from being happy? The first question for an entrepreneur should be “what is most meaningful to me?” rather than “what will make me the most money?” Learn to fail, or fail to learn. The most successful entrepreneurs are those that have failed many times and learned from each of those failures. It’s easy to see the successes, but the failures are more valuable. Is there a system to attain happiness? Write down things for which you are grateful and focus on the progress that you’ve made. When you do that, your job satisfaction increases and you become more successful. When you appreciate the

Those any other questions are answered in this episode of Training Matters, in which Honey discusses the payoffs for being a positive person with Tina Hallis, certified expert in Positive Psychology.About Our GuestWhen Tina Hallis was introduced to a new science called Positive Psychology, it showed her how building our positivity could give us the necessary courage to quit a really bad job or to see more of the good aspects in a job where we were stuck in the negative. Positive Psychology had strategies she could actually use to improve her work experience, and it was information she could share to help others with theirs.
