Records sound better than t-shirts. Today we're talking literature and CanLit, sports, and music around the theme of accessibility as we continue to promote women in the arts for the remainder of Women's History Month. Well this week on Outlook we're discussing wearing our message on our clothing as The Festival of Literary Diversity's (FOLD) schedule of events and festival sign-up has gone live on their website which we'll share at the end of this episode's description. It's an eight day long event (first, half virtual and the second four days in person) as we discuss the importance of both options for events and gatherings, workshops, and festivals of all kinds, for people with disabilities which make in-person attendance more difficult, something we've sadly moved away from since coming out of the worst of the pandemic. A friend told sister/co-host Kerry about a recent online author talk, put on by the FOLD, from their FOLD Academy, with Amanda Leduc called “Building a Life as a Disabled Writer” which included topics such as managing energy for writing when living with disability or chronic illness and information on applying for arts grants which are geared to creators with disabilities. (The next FOLD Academy takes place on April 19th at noon Eastern.) Spring has sprung )or is trying to) and that means baseball so brother/co-host Brian is ready, with his fantasy league and with the real thing, as we highlight the usefulness of listening to games on the radio for those of us who can't see the visuals of the live thing. It's like audiobooks or podcasts, an audio method of listening. He's traveling to New York City shortly, but only time will tell if he ends up attending a New York team's live game, as Kerry remembers the experience of attending a Bluejays game in the Sky Dome, as we forever refer to it. We talk the creative projects we've worked on together and the factors which make them more or less possible, about the need for diversity in literature and art, and even about the ignorance of certain authors who don't understand the value of authenticity reading or even what it is. Proud to be woke on Outlook, it's part II of a March Mixed Bag pile of topics, including the FOLD, and sister/co-host Kerry will be attending the online portion next month and sharing more come May. So many books, so little time, but check out more info on The Festival of Literary Diversity, from April 27th to May 4th, by going to their website here: https://thefoldcanada.org

Today I talk about the current astrology and the general feel of things. Mercury is stationed ready to enter his direct motion, the Jupiter–Uranus conjunction perfected on Sunday 21st, and the recent Eclipses from Late March to early April. What does it all mean? How is it manifesting? What can you do to make the most of it? And how has it impacted you?
There's been massive flooding in Dubai, with twice the annual amount of rain in a single day. Roads, runways and shopping malls were flooded. Meanwhile, West Africa has been dealing with one of its worst heatwaves. Late March and early April saw consistent temperatures above 40 degrees centigrade, sometimes even at night. We know a warming atmosphere caused by climate change makes extreme weather events more likely - but are the freak events going to be the new normal? Three BBC reporters take us through the facts. Abdirahim Saeed looks at the infrastructure in Dubai and our Climate Disinformation reporter, Marco Silva, explains what conspiracies around cloud-seeding were doing the rounds after the floods. We go to Lagos to speak to Makuochi Okafor, a BBC Health Correspondent for West Africa, and we also hear from three people in their early twenties about how they're coping in the heat and trying to limit the effects of climate change.Instagram: @bbcwhatintheworld WhatsApp: +44 0330 12 33 22 6 Email: whatintheworld@bbc.co.uk Presenter: Hannah Gelbart Producers: Adam Chowdhury, Alex Rhodes, Emily Horler and Mary Isokariari Editor: Verity Wilde

REMEMBER THIs, Jan Karski: “Humans have infinite capacity to ignore things that are not convenient”. We're back for our final week of Women's History Month, with another mixed bag show. We wrap up March with a bit of a look back for co-host Kerry's recent discussion of feeling the stigma of finishing her education late and feeling behind everyone. And reviewing the guests (Rebecca Singh and Daniella Mestyanek Young) who joined us in the first half of the month. But while the quote above was said by a Polish-Catholic man, who found himself in an extreme circumstance and who worked in the underground to warn the world about what the Nazis were doing to the Jews of Europe/specifically in Poland, discrimination anywhere, of any kind can grow if enough people look the other way. the local headline in London, Ontario when advocates and riders are pushing City Counsel to do more to improve paratransit: “Paratransit fails to get some disabled Londoners to meeting about fixing dysfunctional system”, Daryl Newcombe, CTV News, March 6 Isn't that just horribly hysterical? We discuss what paratransit is and a little about our own experiences using it in the past and about some of the resistance the counsel has been showing during the process, but there's got to be a way and we will share more updates on that in the weeks ahead. We also hear from Kerry's new phone. Listen to see if you can catch it, along with some signature sibling bickering thrown in there. Also, talk co-host Brian's early instrument practice on the trumpet comes up plus Kerry's clarinet too. And about Brian's draft night/season of fantasy baseball starting on his birthday here, he shares about the strangeness of being into a hubby others are not; though the earlier quote was from World War II, this draft is about sports, not war. So check out our mixed bag of topical goodies here, last but not least ending the show with a tribute to disability activist Judy Heumann (rest in peace), as we wave goodbye to March. Find the documentary Crip Camp featuring Heumann with audio description here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFS8SpwioZ4 Listen to our past Outlook episode to hear our thoughts on the doc: https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/outlook-2020-04-20-crip-camp/id1527876739?i=1000488226660 Our episode reviewing Heumann's book: https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/outlook-2020-07-13-being-heumann-book-review/id1527876739?i=1000488226662 And the article about paratransit mentioned above can be read in full here: https://london.ctvnews.ca/paratransit-fails-to-get-some-disabled-londoners-to-meeting-about-fixing-dysfunctional-system-1.6301807

Late March through April is a timeframe that yields some of the largest bass of the year, especially in small local or metro ponds. Big fish will move shallow and have seen minimal to no angling pressure yet, and ponds warm up quick and tend to be small so an angler can be confident in exactly where they are fishing. It is not, however, easy fishing so host Chad LaChance talks about three to four basic techniques that will produce in early spring pond bassin'. RC is still feeling the effects of the Halloween shiny, reflective Foil Brother, so he discovers the differences between tin and aluminum. With clarity returned and napping mastered, he reviews the factors behind the phenomenon of the Urban Heat Island Effect, and relates how charts of heat waves in the US can be deceptive by manipulating data and wording descriptions that leave the actual point of the graphs unclear. Other more direct graphs blatantly show how comparably low current concentrations of CO2 are and how global temperatures were much higher than they have been the last five million years during the onset and cycling of ice ages. What is proposed as the optimum temperature that we should be striving toward? And what is being proposed as solutions to manage that temperature, that may leave us hamstrung in the face of natural climate change? With his band Frightened Rabbit, Scottish songwriter Scott Hutchison created anthems for the lonely and the cynical -- yet they were songs of hope. Hutchison took his own life in May 2018, yet his legacy -- and impact -- lives on. The band's 2013 album, "Pedestrian Verse," captures the essence of what made the group so spectacular. (It was also the first offering by the band to include songwriting efforts by all of its members.) Songs like "Backyard Skulls" and "Late March, Death March" continue to tackle darker themes -- but with Hutchison's knack for cheekiness and cleverness, while "Nitrous Oxide" and "State Hospital" (among others) speak to the pervasive darkness and escapism that seemed to envelope him. "How can I talk of life and warmth?" Hutchinson sings on the final track, "The Oil Slick." He adds: "I've got a voice like a gutter in a toxic storm." That's a tad harsh, but that's how self-deprecating he was. Hutchison's voice gave hope -- and community -- to many.
There's a lot going on in the world of sports and entertainment and there wasn't one topic Andy and Drew wanted to dive in on tonight more than any other, so they're going to dive head first into a bunch of topics like betting on the Oscars, the end of the NBA season, the Final Four, Golf and anything else that may come up over the next 60-90 minutes.
Get a good ole fashion visit from Larry Littrell and a dive into the majestic workings of our friend Patrick Duke, a guide and artist in Colorado. There are a bunch of other good things going on in-between. Love Paul, Mike and Doug.
