Patriarchy is a power that steals, kills, and destroys. But in the darkness, the Spirit of God hovers, waiting to give birth to new life. Danielle Strickland joins us today to shed light on this critical issue facing the church. Danielle unpacks how patriarchy has deeply distorted our view of God, the scriptures, and the flourishing of men and women together. She shares how this male-centered ordering of the world has undermined women's confidence and value, and how it stands in stark contrast to God's design for mutual flourishing. Yet Danielle also offers hope. She calls us to see the powerful witness of women throughout scripture - from Hagar to Mary Magdalene. And she challenges men to step up, to confront the systems of patriarchy, and to disproportionately invest in empowering women. This is a conversation that gets to the heart of the gospel - a message of life, not death; a vision of mutual empowerment, not domination. Danielle's words have the potential to shift the very culture of the church. So join us. Danielle lets Love lead her to inspire, challenge, provoke and disrupt the present, and to live the future now. Having lived in different cultures and contexts around the world she celebrates diversity and deeply longs for wrong things to be made right. Danielle practises following Jesus daily. This pursuit has led to exciting entrepreneurial exploits (like co-founding multiple charities and non-profits) and a whole host of failures (that we don't as often talk about). All of this has convinced her of the deep need we all have for hope, faith, and love. Her deepest longing is to demonstrate what living that boundless life looks like.Danielle has written six books (the latest is The Other Side of Hope), has a podcast called The Right Side Up (which recently celebrated half-a-million downloads), and speaks to people at events all over the world. Danielle leads Boundless Communications Inc. which launches creative exploits like Women Speakers Collective (liberating voices of women around the globe), IMBY (a tiny home movement IN MY BACKYARD), Brave Global (preventing human trafficking), Infinitum (a way of living deeply), and Hagar's Voice (support and advocacy for survivors of abuse). Danielle lives in Vancouver, Canada with her three sons and husband Steve. Danielle loves getting outside, doing new things, physical adventures, and she can't seem to turn down a free lunch.Danielle's Book:Need to KnowDanielle's Recommendations:The PowerJoin Our Patreon for Early Access and More: PatreonConnect with Joshua: jjohnson@allnations.usGo to www.shiftingculturepodcast.com to interact and donate. Today we launch a new project at FreshEd called The Thinking Ear. The Thinking Ear is a collection of episodes produced by you, offering a sonic space to share ideas on education worldwide. Think of it as an audio journal. If you're interested in developing your own podcast episode about your research, please get in touch. The Thinking Ear is open for submissions. We will offer support to develop your idea into a podcast before airing it on the FreshEd platform. We think a space for anyone to contribute a podcast episode is important because sonic productions expand our understanding. Research is no longer confined to niche journal articles or shared in half-empty conference rooms. Podcasts encourage us to think both analytically and creatively about research and increase our public impact. We want to democratize podcast creation by offering our listeners opportunities to make their voices heard. So welcome to The Thinking Ear and I hope many of you will consider making your own episodes in the future. To kick things off Jordan Corson tells a short story about a particular understanding of the idea of universal education, composed in the style of writer Jorge Luis Borges. Jordan Corson is an Assistant Professor of education at Stockton University. freshedpodcast.com/TTE-corson/ -- Get in touch! One was a statement of human limitations – I am a virgin. The other was a statement of surrender – I am the Lord's servant. These statements led Bette to reflect on her own human limitations and posture of surrender.-We discussed how Bette's book was developed amidst a cohort of women who prayerfully discussed and developed their unique contribution to the Kingdom. They played an Elizabeth-like role for each other - similar to how Elizabeth encouraged Mary. -We talked about how Luke, a researched and thoughtful physician, used story over facts to tell the story of Jesus birth and how this points to our need to connect both our right and left brain to the story of Scripture.-Bette also noted that Luke centered his entire birth narrative around Mary and Elizabeth… and yet we often don't hear this story in a way that highlights these two women and the critical role they played.-Bette introduced us to the concept of Visio Divina – where it came from and why it can be a meaningful practice. She highlights art as a way to help us slow down and connect to the story of Scripture in a different way.You can connect with Bette at: www.bettedickinson.com.And follow her on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bette_dickinson/If you want to be guided in free a Visio Divina experience, text WONDER to 55444 and follow the prompts.
