In this episode of Podcast Mark, host Mark de Grasse has an extensive discussion with his long-time collaborator Brad Ball, focusing on artificial intelligence and its impacts on industries like branding and design. They explore the current capabilities of AI—as well as its limitations—and caution that it is not magic, still requiring significant human input and creativity.TOPICS:- What AI is and isn't, and its current limitations: They explore the current capabilities of AI like accelerating processes and generating ideas. However, they note AI still requires extensive human creativity, planning, and editing to shape the output in a useful way towards desired outcomes. It is not magic—it has boundaries in its abilities.- How AI can be used for ideation and accelerating creative processes: AI tools can rapidly produce ideas, concepts, and drafts to significantly enhance and expedite creative workflows. As an example, Brad discusses quickly mocking up visual concepts to demonstrate for clients rather than only written explanations. The key is crafting thoughtful prompts and parameters to guide the AI.- The potential of AI to transform education by personalizing lessons: They envision AI enabling customized educational approaches tailored to individuals' interests and comprehension levels rather than one-size-fits-all. Mark gives an example of struggling to grasp abstract moon-phase terminology until it was framed as a house construction analogy. AI could perpetually re-frame concepts until they "click."LINKSBrad Ball: https://www.linkedin.com/in/iambradball/Ardent Creative: https://www.ardentcreative.com/Support the show
Episode #273 - "Email Marketing Design for Jewelry Businesses" Welcome to Episode #273. In this episode, I want to discuss effective email marketing design strategies tailored specifically for jewelry brands. When we mention "graphic design" or the design aspect of digital materials, it's common to associate it with aesthetics and making things visually appealing. However, in the context of email marketing, it's less about making the email visually pleasing and more about designing it in a way that ensures successful email delivery, along with clear and swift presentation of essential information. The primary goal is not only to secure a place in the recipient's inbox but also to effectively communicate all the crucial details. According to a 2022 study conducted by Litmus, the average time people spend on an email is just nine seconds. This research revealed that approximately 30% of emails receive less than two seconds of attention, 41% are looked at for a duration of two to eight seconds, and only 29% are viewed for more than eight seconds. In essence, your email design needs to make a significant impact within the first two seconds of viewing. Later in this episode, I'll also be chatting with Hilary from Hilary Finck Jewelry, who we've been spotlighting as a jewelry brand case study. This is actually our last podcast episode with Hilary as a guest! If you've enjoyed hearing the interviews from Hilary and would like more designer interviews in the future, let me know in a YouTube comment or podcast review. If you're new to this series with Hilary, I'd suggest starting with Episode #252. Doing so will introduce you to Hilary and allow you to follow this narrative from its inception. Before we begin our conversation with Hilary, I'd like to discuss the constraints of email marketing design and explain why it's not feasible or advisable to treat your emails as pieces of art. Additionally, I'll delve into the current best practices for email marketing design in 2024 and cover other related topics. Amrita Muthur is the VP of Marketing at Superside, a new platform revolutionizing the design of marketing creative in our fast-paced world. She went from being the first marketing hire to overseeing a 400% year-over-year growth strategy. We discussed all of this and more this week on the On Brand podcast. About Michele Arnese When Amrita Mathur joined Superside as their first marketing hire in 2019 there was no product, no platform, and no recurring revenue. No stranger to being called in when companies are at a strategic inflection point with their growth strategy, she did what she's spent a career in B2B marketing learning how to do: implemented a marketing-led growth strategy that translated into $8 million in subscription revenue in the first year and 400% year-over-year growth since then. Now as VP of Marketing, her team is revolutionizing design at scale for ambitious brands like Amazon, Meta, Shopify, and Coinbase. Episode Highlights No product? No platform? No recurring revenue? That sounds like a story! “Before Superside, I had never worked for an early-stage startup.” But Amrita hit the ground running. During this time, her boss stressed, “I don't care about revenue. I care about your velocity of learning.” What did she tackle first? “First, I started with that question of what do we want to be when we grow up?” From there, she conducted over 50 qualitative interviews to get at their buyer personas, influencer personas, and the personas of those not likely to buy from the brand. More media means more creative. Amrita and I talked a lot about the “volume and velocity” of marketing creative today. “It's a tough market. You don't just need good creative. You need great creative. Especially in the B2B space.” So, what is Superside? Charting new territory in the space between open design marketplaces like Fiverr, freelancers, and traditional agencies, Amrita arrived at a unique phrase for their positioning, “CAAS—Creative As a Service. Even if someone doesn't get it, it provides permission to explain.” What brand has made Amrita smile recently? As a proud Canadian, she shared the innovative underwear brand Knix for their standout creative. To learn more, connect with Amrita on LinkedIn and Twitter. And, of course, check out Superside!
