Episode 293: “Dynasty Established” - Super Bowl XIII (Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Dallas Cowboys)Episode 293 of “The Sports Experience Podcast” is here & we're concluding our block on some of professional football's best postseason games of all time.In this episode we're discussing Super Bowl XIII between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Dallas Cowboys. In what was a rematch of Super Bowl X, both the Steelers and Cowboys battled to become the first NFL team to win three Super Bowl titles. In a game which featured Hall of Fame coaches (Chuck Noll and Tom Landry) and dozens of Hall of Fame players on both teams, Super Bowl XIII was the most exciting installment of this game to this point in history.Pittsburgh's offense found success against Dallas' “Doomsday Defense” towards the end of the first half, and quarterback Terry Bradshaw threw three touchdown passes to John Stallworth (2x) and Rocky Bleier to give the Steelers a 21-14 lead at halftime. The Cowboys mounted a great second half drive against “The Steel Curtain” and could've tied the game at 21-21 until tight end Jackie Smith dropped a Roger Staubach pass which forced a field goal.Pittsburgh responded with a huge Franco Harris rushing touchdown, and took advantage of a fumble on the ensuing kickoff. Bradshaw hit Lynn Swann on the first play from scrimmage for a touchdown which put Pittsburgh's lead at 35-17.To the Cowboys' credit, they responded in the fourth quarter and made the game 35-31 late. Sadly for Dallas, they ran out of time, and Pittsburgh became the first team to win three Super Bowls.Terry Bradshaw won Super Bowl MVP in the only game of his career where he threw for 300+ passing yards. Moreover, the Steelers established themselves as the NFL's: “Team of the 70s.”Connect with us on Instagram!Chris Quinn: @cquinncomedyDominic DiTolla: @ditolladominicProducer: @ty_englestudioInstagram: @thesportsexperiencepodcastIf you enjoy this podcast, please help support us @:https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-sports-experience-pod/support#sportspodcast#comedypodcast #pittsburghsteelers#dallascowboys#cowboys#nfl#superbowl#nflplayoffs

Being aware of how we 'show up' in our workplaces, how we interact with our colleagues and what our bodies are telling us in even the most seemingly trivial interactions (am I anxious, tense, relaxed, energised?) is, at least in our experience, a critical set of skills for anyone practicing leadership - at any level. What if we told you that acquiring this most valuable of skills can be found in the paddock, by exploring your connection with a horse?Jackie Smith is Founder and Lead Facilitator at The Wisdom of the Horse, an organisation providing deep, experiential learning programs for leadership and team development. Jackie joined Paul & KG for a wonderful conversation unpacking the benefits of experiential learning and how working with horses can unlock and deepen learning for both, individuals and teams, helping build trust and genuine connections with each other. It was an insightful, energising and inspiring conversation. And on this occasion, our friends at Annandale Cellars provided an exquisite French chardonnay (very much in the Chablis style, though not strictly from the Chablis region). Nevertheless, it was a gorgeous, crisp wine, which really carried the full flavour of the chardonnay grape. It was a 2021 Christophe Patrice Chardonnay. Do yourself a favour and stock up for the warmer months!Sláinte friends! Some useful resources from this episode:1. The Wisdom of the Horse2. Yesterday's Sports is part of the Sports History Network - The Headquarters For Sports Yesteryear.EPISODE SUMMARYAfter winning the NFL Championship in 1947 and compiling a combined 21–5 record in 1947 & 1948, the Chicago Cardinals fell hard, having only two winning seasons in the next eleven seasons. The team moved to Saint Louis in 1960, giving them new life, as they had five winning seasons and only four losing seasons. In 1964, the Cards finished the season with a 9–3–2 record, but unfortunately, it was only good enough for second place in the Eastern Conference as the Browns finished with a 10–3–1 record and went on to win the NFL Championship. From 1965 to 1969, the team bounced up and down like a yo-yo, with a bad season in 65, a good season in 66, bad in 67, good in 68, and terrible in 1969, finishing 4–9–1.Cardinal fans didn't expect to have much to cheer about in 1970, but they were in for a surprise. The season didn't start too well. Receiver John Gilliam and tight end Jackie Smith gained over 100 yards, but the Cards allowed six sacks and turned the ball over four times. The result was a 34–13 loss to the Rams. Dating back to the 1969 season, it was their sixth loss in their last seven games......You can read the full blog post here.YESTERDAY'S SPORTS BACKGROUNDHost Mark Morthier grew up in New Jersey just across the river from New York City during the 1970s, a great time for sports in the area. A number of activist groups, mostly from developing nations already facing the realities of a changing climate, are taking a new legal approach to climate action. They are arguing that climate change cases are human rights cases and in doing so are wading into unprecedented legal waters. We speak with three scholars about current legal cases tying climate change and human rights together, what these cases might mean for the climate movement and how human rights law can produce real change on the ground.Featuring Niak Sian Koh, postdoctoral researcher in Sustainability Science at the Stockholm Resilience Center at Stockholm University in Sweden; Zoe Nay, PhD candidate with Melbourne Law School at the University of Melbourne, Australia; and Jackie Smith, professor of sociology at the University of Pittsburgh, in the US. This episode was written and produced by Katie Flood. The executive producer is Mend Mariwany. Eloise Stevens does our sound design and our theme music is by Neeta Sarl. Throughout a year of immense impact on society's mental health, Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan has ensured that all those who seek help and care are able to find it. Show notes: (0:17) We meet Lisa Elia, a behavioral health therapist at Catholic Charities, who introduces the symptoms of grief and loss that many teens and young adults have exhibited throughout the stretch of the pandemic. (3:27) We learn more about the state of mental health across the nation before the onset of COVID-19, and how the mental health care providers on the frontlines of the pandemic are struggling to avoid burnout themselves. (4:21) Lisa discusses the collective trauma people have experienced, with depression and anxiety spiking across all ages and demographics. She stresses the need to examine society in terms of trauma response and to refocus the way we think individually. (7:24) Jackie Smith, Clinical Director at Catholic Charities, talks about how their team of therapists has ensured that the 30% increase in clients they've seen during the pandemic have all been seen and cared for. She talks, too, about the need for new habits and routines to aid stability. (8:44) Lisa shares her belief that many people have turned back to faith during these difficulties, and emphasizes that the pandemic has changed the way we turn to our own support systems and increase mindfulness in our lives. (10:40) Lisa and Jackie stress the importance of talking about the losses in order to avoid minimizing our collective and individual experiences. In order to really get through something, they encourage, we have to feel it first. (12:29) Jackie commends the team of therapists at Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan, expressing her gratitude and amazement at this group of professionals who are committed to helping those in need.
