I am your host, Anthony La Pira, and I will be taking you on a cinematic journey through the sprawling cityscapes, the crippling datastorms, and the cybernetic implants that encompass all things Cyberpunk. In this week's episode, I will be breaking-down the 2017 legasequel cyberpunk modern masterpiece, Blade Runner 2049 – co-written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, based on the characters from “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” by Philip K. Dick, and directed by Denis Villeneuve, starring Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas, Dave Bautista, Robin Wright, Sylvia Hoeks, and Jared Leto.Young Blade Runner K's discovery of a long-buried secret leads him to track down former Blade Runner Rick Deckard, who's been missing for thirty years. This film has only gotten better with every passing year. It is Denis Villeneuve's triumphant legacy-sequel to one of the greatest science fiction films of all-time. Everything rips in this film, from the compositions by Roger Deakins, to the score by Hans Zimmer, to the pacing orchestrated by Denis, to the sense of isolation and desolation that permeates throughout the film, and the question that haunts all replicants and humans alike – what does it mean to be human? So, do me a favor – it's time to access your cranial jacks, boot up your Ono-Sendai Cyberspace 7, and slap on your damn mirror-shades. You know what time it is! The female actors of 'Blade Runner 2049' are a huge part of the brilliance of Denis Villenueve's 2017 sequel to Ridley Scott's 'Blade Runner'. They bring to life such wonderfully complicated, original, genre-bending, emotionally resonant, funny, and strong characters. In this special episode of the podcast, I take a look at all of the scenes featuring the incredible actors who brought the characters of Luv, Joi, Madam, and Dr. Stelline to life: Sylvia Hoeks, Ana de Armas, Carla Juri, and Robin Wright.
Welcome to your favorite movie podcast, Not a Bomb!! This is the podcast where we revisit some of the biggest box office failures in cinema history and explore whether they deserve a second chance. We are incredibly grateful for all the support we've received over the last 200 episodes and we look forward to many more. For this special occasion, we decided to discuss the seminal science fiction film, Blade Runner. Despite its status as a thought-provoking and visually stunning work of art, the initial release of the film was a commercial flop. We also talk about the 2017 sequel, Blade Runner 2049, which strikes a perfect balance between building on the legacy of the original and standing on its own as a great film. Unfortunately, the sequel also bombed and failed to make a profit for the studios. To delve into these two iconic science-fiction works, we welcomed a special guest, Cam, offering a Gen Z perspective. This episode wouldn't have been the same without Cam, and we're excited to have him share his insights on this captivating futuristic saga.Blade Runner is directed by Ridley Scott and stars Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, Edward James Olmos, M. Emmet Walsh, Daryl Hannah, William Sanderson, Brion James and Joe Turkel.Blader Runner 2049 is directed by Denis Villeneuve and stars Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Caral Juri, Lennie James, Dave Bautista and Jared LetoIf you want to leave feedback or suggest a movie bomb, please drop us a line at NotABombPod@gmail.com or Contact Us - here. Kelsi and Trey discuss the informal universe of Ridley Scott and Denis Villeneuve's project of Blade Runner set in a postmodern society where a few humans play god, consumerism is religion, and all of the human condition has been reduced to constructs and commodities. A lot to explore thematically with class and gender, as well as stylistically with the scope and scale of Roger Deakins, and then the iconic Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford throwing punches while Sylvia Hoeks and Jared Leto stealing the show by the end! Based on the video game franchise of the same name starring Pedro Pascal of "The Mandalorian" fame as Joel, and Bella Ramsey as Ellie, we begin our adventure with the duo and start to learn their journey. Enrique is a big fan of the series as he played the first game on release and has beaten The Last Of Us Part II, with the first part being in his top 5-10 video games of all time. Eli enjoyed the story of the game but the gameplay left him struggling to continue so he is excite to pick up the TV show, and Tristan is a virgin to the franchise! Since the trailer, we all have been excited to review episode 2 and are now patiently waiting for episode 3 to drop after the small little preview at the end of the episode! Based on the 2013 video game developed by Naughty Dog, the series is set twenty years after a mass fungal infection sparked a global pandemic and follows Joel (Pedro Pascal), a smuggler tasked with escorting the teenage Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across a post-apocalyptic United States. The supporting cast features Gabriel Luna as Joel's younger brother Tommy and Anna Torv as Joel's smuggler partner Tess. The Last of Us, said to be the largest television production in Canadian history, was filmed in Alberta from July 2021 to June 2022. It is the first HBO series based on a video game, and is a joint production by Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, Naughty Dog, the Mighty Mint, and Word Games. The first season consists of nine episodes written by Druckmann, who wrote and co-directed the original game, and Mazin. The score was composed by Gustavo Santaolalla, who composed for the game, and David Fleming Blade Runner 2049 is a 2017 American epic neo-noir science fiction film directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green.[10] A sequel to the 1982 film Blade Runner, the film stars Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, with Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Dave Bautista, and Jared Leto in supporting roles. Ford and Edward James Olmos reprise their roles from the original film. Gosling plays K, a Nexus-9 replicant "blade runner" who uncovers a secret that threatens to destabilize society and the course of civilization. Ideas for a Blade Runner sequel were first proposed in the 1990s, but licensing issues stalled their development. Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson obtained the film rights from Bud Yorkin. Ridley Scott stepped down as the film's initial director and worked as an executive producer, while Villeneuve was later appointed to direct. Blade Runner 2049 was financed through a partnership between Alcon Entertainment and Sony Pictures, as well as a Hungarian government-funded tax rebate. Warner Bros., on behalf of Alcon, distributed the film in North America, while Sony handled distribution in international markets. Principal photography took place mostly at two soundstages in Budapest over four months from July to November 2016.
Welcome to the Season 2 opener of Fabulous Film and Friends where this week we will be throwing down with a Battle of the Blade Runners , as we compare Ridley Scott's 1982 sci fi giant Blade Runner starring Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, Darryl Hannah, William Sanderson, M. Emmet Walsh, Joanna Cassidy, Edward James Olmos, Brion James, Joe Turkel and James Hong with Denise Villenueve's 2017 follow-up: Blade Runner 2049, starring Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana De Armas, Jared Leto, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, , Mackenzie Davis, Dave Bautista, Edward James Olmos and Sean Young. Joining me are the two helped launch this podcast one year ago, Roseanne Caputi and Dave Johnson, DDS. Set in a once futuristic, but now alternate 2019 Los Angeles megalopolis, Blade Runner centers around Rick Deckard, a Sam Spade-style, world weary ex-LAPD officer from a unit known as Blade Runners, who is pulled out of retirement to hunt down five artificial humans known as replicants. Replicants are illegal on earth and used as slave labor in space exploration and colonization and five top of the line, Nexus 6 replicant outlaws led by super soldier Roy Batty, come back to earth in an attempt to extend their life span, which is limited to four years. Aiding Deckard in his pursuit of the fugitives is the alluring Rachel, executive secretary to Dr. Eldon Tyrell whose corporation manufactures replicants. Upon meeting Rachel and administering a device on her known as Voight-Kampf, an empathy test used to detect replicants, Deckard learns that Rachel herself is a replicant, and while cold to her initially, Deckard ends up falling in love with her. After Deckard confronts and kills three of the wanted replicants, -- with Rachel's help—he is pummeled and beaten by Batty and nearly left for dead until Batty has a change of heart and saves Deckard from a precipitous fall off a towering building. Battered and bruised, Deckard learns the true meaning of empathy and he reunites with Rachel. The pair escape Los Angeles and go into hiding, unsure of how long they have together. Set 30 years later --after a great famine and information blackout, as well as a buyout of the Tyrell Corporation by a blind tech giant/savior named Niander Wallace, Blade Runner 2049 follows Blade Runner Agent K, who after a seemingly routine run-in with an erratic old style Nexus 8 replicant named Sapper Morton, discovers a link to events of the past that could change life on earth as they know it: the buried remains of the Replicant Rachel, who died after giving birth to her and Rick Deckard's child. With that discovery, Agent K, a new-style tamed replicant himself known as “Joe” to his AI girlfriend Joi, embarks on a journey to find the identity and truth of Rachel and Deckard's human/replicant hybrid offspring, believing himself to be that very child that will start a revolution. This quest will lead K not only to Deckard but to a face-to-face confrontation with himself and his place in the universe. Who is the winner?

Margot and Jordan have reached a very special juncture in the Botcast with this episode about Blade Runner 2049, because they finally get to talk about Luv and Joi — and feature their very first special guest! Your co-hosts are joined by This Podcast's Boyfriend, Taylor Wilhite, so he can speak on what is possibly his favorite movie ever made. There's a lot of ground to cover in this one: why does radical robot uprising hinge on extremely boring heterosexual reproduction? Who is the real hero of 2049 (and why is it Joi?)? Why the hell didn't Sylvia Hoeks star in everything after this movie came out? What are the limits of AI consciousness in hologram fembots? Why are Dave Bautista's glasses so tiny? It's nearly a 3-hour movie and we had to cram it all into one reasonably sized conversation, so let's get to it. Produced by: Jordan Crucchiola Music by: Margot Carlson Best friends: Super Yaki
In a new twist, Ryan's pick Blade Runner 2049 (2017) showcases a romance between an android and a hologram. Despite the gritty dystopian setting and the relationship only in about 20 minutes of the movie, there is still enough for a rich discussion about the bond between these artificial beings. Then it is debated if the bond was even real. Young Blade Runner K's discovery of a long-buried secret leads him to track down former Blade Runner Rick Deckard, who's been missing for thirty years. Stars Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas, Robin Wright, Harrison Ford, Dave Bautista, Sylvia Hoeks, Edward James Olmos, Jared Leto, Mackenzie Davis, and Sean Young. On this week's episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham & Jocelyn review Apple TV Plus' first original series "SEE," starring Jason Momoa, Sylvia Hoeks, Alfre Woodard, Hera Hilmar, and Christian Camargo. The series is set in a post-apocalyptic dystopia some two-hundred years after the world population was decimated by a virus which left the few survivors affected by blindness. Jason Momoa is the leader of a small tribe and the stepfather to two children who were born with the gift of sight in a world where the ability to see is considered heresy. Jocelyn begins by saying how she likes the premise of show and that series is simply watchable, although with a lot of flaws. Jocelyn also praises the photography, scenery, and locations depicted in the series, and Graham found it refreshing to see a post-apocalyptic world which is not a depiction of the result utter nuclear devastation. Graham & Jocelyn posited the series could potentially become better since only 3 out of 8 episodes are currently available. However, the three available episodes seem to concentrate more on life at the present without offering some glimpses into the past for context. Jocelyn points out the fact that two-hundred years of blindness seemed too recent for society to have lost knowledge of braille system, almost as though blindness never existed before the apocalyptic events which left the current world in the dark. The two co-host questioned the almost perfect sense of fashion and color picking of a society unable to see colors and a number of other seeming gaffes which the series production seemed to have overlooked. The pair also discussed the cast, both of them admitting they knew very little about most of the cast, except for Jason Momoa and Alfre Woodard. Jocelyn thinks the Sylvia Hoeks looked and has a familiar face, but could not remember from where, or what movie or series she's seen the actress before. Graham also wondered about who actor Christian Camargo was and later realized the actor had a stint in the now defunct soap opera The Guiding Light. Jocelyn & Graham praised actress Nesta Cooper's performance as Haniwa, and made fun of the seeming incompetence and lackluster attitude of the character of Kofun, played by actor Archie Madweke. It is an epic bumper podcast on Geektown Radio this week as I'm joined by Bex from TristaBytes to chat about MCM London Comic-Con! We both spent a fabulous (if rather tiring) three days at the ExCel Centre in London checking out all manner of geekiness, from indie comic books, to card games about sandwiches, and some amazing panels. We talk 'Pennyworth', the new 'Alex Rider' series, Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat's 'Dracula', and Netflix's 'The Witcher'. We also have the usual weekly tv and film news, along with a look at the next week on tv, and the panel from upcoming Apple TV+ series 'See'.'See' is set in the far future, where a virus has decimated humankind. Those who survived emerged blind. Jason Momoa stars as Baba Voss, the father of twins born centuries later with the mythic ability to see – who must protect his tribe against a powerful yet desperate queen who believes it’s witchcraft and wants them destroyed. Alfre Woodard (‘Luke Cage’) stars as Paris, Baba Voss’ spiritual leader, along with Yadira Guevara-Prip, Sylvia Hoeks, Nesta Cooper, Archie Madekwe, Christian Camargo, Hera Hilmar and Marilee Talkington. The panel consisted of creator Steven Knight (‘Peaky Blinders’, ‘Taboo’), director Francis Lawrence (‘The Hunger Games’ films, ‘I Am Legend’), Jason Momoa, Alfre Woodard, and Archie Madekwe. After being out for over a month, Dakota Arsenault finally gets around to talking about the new Blade Runner 2049 movie. Sammy Feilchenfeld returns to talk about what he calls his favourite movie of the year so far. Since this movie has been out for so long, spoilers are talked about in this episode so listeners be warned! – Sammy and Dakota want to heap all the praise on all the amazing actresses in this movie specifically singling out Robin Wright, Ana De Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Hiam Abbas, Mackenzie Davis and Carla Juri – Dave Bautista doesn’t want to be your typical leading man – The guys talk about where director Denis Villeneuve ranks among the greatest current working directors. Earlier this summer there was an episode of Contra Zoom that Sammy guested on talking about the greatest Canadian filmmakers of all time. – Roger Deakins hopefully will finally win first Oscar for his cinematography after being nominated a whopping 13 times!!! – The stunning sets weren’t all massive larger than life ones; some were miniature with really impressive detail included. – We eagerly await Villeneuve’s take on Dune. The Ballad of Buster Scruggs This Western, told in six very different chapters, feels like a mirror reflecting the Coen Brothers’ filmography. Dive into this thin and svelt BONUS EPISODE as Chris and Owen explore their opinions of Blade Runner 2049. Can a sequel made 35 years after the original survive on Ryan Gosling's sexy anti-charisma alone? Or was it foolish to have asked Harrison Ford to fly over in his helicopter in the first place? Blade Runner 2049 is directed by Denis Villeneuve, written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, and stars (in addition to the two dudes I made fun of above) Robin Wright, Sylvia Hoeks, Ana de Armas, and Jared Leto, who hopefully decided not to send his cast mates dead rats and used condoms this time. In this episode we discuss the sci-fi thriller Blade Runner 2049. This film was directed by Denis Villeneuve and stars Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, and Jared Leto.
BLADE RUNNER 2049: Who's Your Daddy? Do androids dream of lethargic sequels? In his latest LA story, Ryan Gosling stars as a replicant desperately searching for his origins. Denis (Sicario, Arrival) Villeneuve delivers every sci-fi geek’s wet dream of a follow-up to Ridley Scott’s iconic portrait of a not-too-distant dystopia – and upholds the tradition of atmosphere and ambiguity. So is he or isn’t he? Is this a brilliant reboot or humdrum homage? The gloves come off as your good doctors trade blades for scalpels in this epic dissection of this long-imagined sequel and the original 1982 film. Hear where more humanity lies… (If you’ve never seen the original film and/or just want to get to 2049, zip ahead to 38:09, although we do reference points made over the original film.) Two Blade Runners. Sarah Watt, Max Tarrant, Jeremy Downing and William Chen discuss the films Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049. Our discussion starts by discussing the bold visual choices in both films, particularly the mastery present in the lighting, as well as the complimenting iconic music. We talk about some of the story elements, particularly the opening, and the keeping of Hampton Fancher as the writer from the original film to the sequel. We then delve into the box office returns on the new film and how it echoes the struggles of the original film. Our discussion then moves on to the great work done by the actors in Blade Runner 2049, particularly Sylvia Hoeks as Luv and Ryan Gosling as Agent K. We all agreed at the strength of the writing and filmmaking around the K and Joi relationship in the new film. We then debate and disagree on the effect of the fight scene between the two Blade Runners in the new film and the success of the Rachel clone special effects. We then get into the sexual politics of the two films and whether or not acknowledging the objectification of women warrants having naked female figures everywhere, as well as the complicated nature of the sex scenes.
Denis Villeneuve’s hugely anticipated sequel is here, and so far the critical consensus looks promising – what did Phil & Laurie make of it?
