On radical conservatism and global order. Professor Michael C. Williams talks to George and Alex about his co-authored World of the Right and how the radical right has gone global. We discuss: Does academia takes the Right as seriously as it should? What's the difference between the radical right and the far right, the new right, national conservatives, or fascists? How is the right 'global' – not just through international conferences but by being "co-constituted by its relation to the global"? Why is the radical right focused on the global liberal managerial elite? What does it get right and what does it get wrong about this stratum? How did the radical right come to take Gramsci seriously? Is the radical right just parasitic on the breakdown of liberal universalism? What does this analysis of the radical right say about the Left – is it the force that protects the status quo of the liberal international order? Some of you may not recognize Michael C. Williams at first glance, but stick him in a dark basement, turn him around, and have him stare at the wall—instant recognition. Michael is THE Michael from the now iconic THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, which this year celebrates 25 years of forever changing the path of our genre. Michael's career continues to grow with the release this month of GHOST GAME from DREAD films. I had the opportunity to spend some time with Michael, speaking a little bit about the legacy of Blair Witch but mostly about his involvement in GHOST GAME. Check it out! Synopsis: “As part of an internet challenge to live undetected in a stranger's home, a daring couple target an infamous haunted house and endure a series of chilling incidents as they witness a family descending into madness.” GHOST GAME gets a limited theatrical opening on Oct. 18th – and then it hits VOD everywhere on Oct. 22nd.

Halloween in June continues on Late to the Movies with 1999's The Blair Witch Project! Our month-long celebration of low budget horror carries on as Ben, Greg, Ray, and Robbie get lost in the woods with the often imitated, never equaled granddaddy of found footage horror films. Directed by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez and starring Rei Hance, Michael C. Williams, and Joshua Leonard.
This week, we present the most recent episode of John's other show, 1999: The Podcast, which features a conversation with American Hysteria's Chelsey Weber-Smith about The Blair Witch Project. Starring Heather Donahue, Michael C. Williams, and Joshua Leonard as themselves – or people who happen to have their exact names – and written and directed by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez, 1999's 10th-highest grossing film, The Blair Witch Project was produced on a budget of less than a half million dollars and grossed $248.6 million at the box office. One of the founding films in the "found footage" genre, the film was perhaps most famous for the unprecedented marketing campaign that led up to its release. The movie made innovative use of a relatively novel outlet called "the World Wide Web" and deliberately blurred the lines between fact and fiction, giving the film an air of reality that actually fooled some its audience into believing they were watching real documentary footage. Heralded by critics for its ingenuity as well as its genuine scares, Blair Witch may well have been the buzziest of buzzy movies ever. But its legacy is slightly more complicated. While it was a huge hit with the public at the time, it is less liked by audiences now, who often complain that the movie doesn't hold up on its own, having relied too much on the multimedia "project" of which the film is merely the final ingredient. 1999: The Podcast on Twitter: @1999thePodcast Chelsey on Twitter: @AmerHysteria

We even found some footage of our own! A tape featuring Mint Salad and Riley was discovered in the woods! What happened to them?Found video footage tells the tale of three film students (Heather Donahue, Joshua Leonard, Michael C. Williams) who've traveled to a small town to collect documentary footage about the Blair Witch, a legendary local murderer. Over the course of several days, the students interview townspeople and gather clues to support the tale's veracity. Teen Horror Cast Episode 4: The Blair Witch ProjectThis movie and our discussion of it feature a bit of body horror and gore. As always, if that feels like it might be too much for you, you should head for the escape hatch and skip this episode. Additionally we will be hard core spoiling this movie! This film in particular is one that you should watch before we discuss it.Released in 1999 and produced for around sixty thousand dollars, The Blair Witch project grossed over two hundred and fifty million dollars and was one of the first so-called found-footage horror films. Directed by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez, the fictional documentary stars Heather Donahue, Michael C. Williams, and Joshua Leonard each playing characters that share their actual names. It is presented as film and video that was discovered in the woods of Maryland while searching for the missing film makers who, it is stated early on, remain missing. We talk about:what the film reveals regarding human empathyunstable friend groups and why three is a tricky group numberhow the mona lisa is like the blair witchbroken bones, civilization, and packing well for campingand much more!
Michael C. Williams is a passionate fly fisherman and also starred in one of my favorite horror films, the Blair Witch Project. I was so excited when I learned this, and even more so when he agreed to take the time to speak with me. The bulk of this episode is geared toward his love of fishing. We discuss the need for closures on certain waterways for the benefit of the fish, his desire to pick up Euro-nymphing in the upcoming season, how his father introduced him to fishing and also brought him back to it later in life, and his local Croton watershed. Near the end, I got to pepper him with questions about the Blair Witch Project, and he gave me some awesome tidbits about the movie as a whole and the fishing scenes at the start of the movie. Michael is also starring in the upcoming psychological thriller film, Grafton. Blog: At Last to Wade the River Instagram: @sippingrises Youtube: SippingRises
Welcome to the 6th Round Retro Post-Fight Show. This is the show that digs into the archives and gives you a comprehensive review of classic MMA events, that span as far back as UFC 1. Join Eddie Mercado & Victor Rodriguez as they relive the Bellator 58: ‘Chandler vs. Alvarez’ event this week, complete with results, analysis, and of course a few laughs. As mentioned, this week we feature the Nov 19th, 2011, Bellator 58: ‘Iron' MIchael Chandler vs. Eddie ‘The Underground King’ Alvarez’ event. This event we’re covering today was a jam-packed nine-bout card, which was a mixed bag with a couple subs, a couple KO's, and a few decisions, along with one DQ. The show went down on SPIKE.tv from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL. The main event that night showcased a battle for the Bellator MMA Lightweight Championship with MMA icon Eddie Alvarez facing then up-and-comer Michael Chandler. Battling it out for the title that night, no one expected them to go the entire five rounds, but what they really weren't expecting was a 4th Round Sub from the young undefeated 'Iron Mike'. Chandler was able to secure the ‘W’ via a wicked Rear Naked Choke to the talented Alvarez. Chandler entered the bout with a 9-0 record at this point in his fledgling career, including his recent victory over Patricky Pitbull. ‘The Underground King’ was entering the octagon after a six and a half month break, on a seven-fight win streak, with a record at that point of 22-2. In the co-main event, we watched Hector ‘Showeather’ Lombard quickly put an end to Trevor Prangley, via Punches at 1:06 of the second round. To refresh your memory, at this point #Lombard had a 31-1 fight record, while this was Prangley's Bellator debut, despite a professional fight record of 24-8 at the time... he never fought in Bellator again after this loss. The rest of the card was pretty decent, with a women's bout between Jessica Aguilar and Lisa Ellis, which was preceded by a sub, a KO, a few decisions and that DQ -- which was due to an illegal kick between Herbert Goodman and Jonas Billstein. The venue consisted of Sean Wheelock & Jimmy Smith at the announcers table, Michael C. Williams as the Ring Announcer, with around 269,000 average viewers on Spike TV. Let’s check it out! The Blair Witch Project is one of the most iconic films of the 90's, and it's even credited with starting the found footage genre, but I wasn't looking forward to re-watching it. I saw this when it came out and figured it wouldn't age well. I WAS WRONG! So, David did this illustration, which should really tell you how much we need Dustin. @dgoebel00 on Instagram. Three young adults, Heather Donahue, Joshua Leonard, and Michael C. Williams play themselves as a film crew that is headed into the woods of Maryland to document the “myth” of the Blair Witch. Before heading into the woods they stop at the closest town and interview the locals about the likelihood of such a myth, and received varying stories of belief and terror mixed with skeptics. Watch The Blair Witch ProjectWatch on AmazonClick here to Watch As they venture into the woods things start to grow alarming and they start to wonder if they are lost. Things take a turn for the worst as they realize that they got more witch than they bargained for. Review The Blair Witch Project is widely held to be the movie that kicked off the found footage genre. There are plenty of examples of found footage before this film, such as: Cannibal HolocaustCannibal FeroxThe Faces of Death SeriesThe ConnectionThe Last Broadcast84 Charlie MoPicGuinea Pig 2: Flower of Flesh and Blood While these movies ranged in release date all the way back to the late 60’s the genre never gathered significant steam or public interest until the release of Blair Witch. Many of these movies, including Blair Witch, capitalized on the mistaken assumption that the movie was actual footage of real-life events that just happened to be caught on tape. The hype train that surrounded the release of this movie was a sight to behold. This is one of, or maybe the first movie ever to rely primarily on an internet marketing campaign. Check out our review of Paranormal Activity 2 https://www.horrormovietalk.com/2019/08/07/paranormal-activity-2-review/ The movie itself is something of an anomaly, not quite a film, and not quite a home video. It is hard to place it squarely in a genre. With the added suggestion that the footage was real, it made this a real freak show. The Blair Witch Project relies heavily on audience buy-in and it is able to accomplish it by being very believable by nature. This is how young twenty-somethings would act, and something they would do, and the scenario they find themselves in is pretty easily a universal nightmare to any viewer. I saw this in theaters upon release, and never again since. I was not looking forward to a rewatch because I thought I had this movie pegged from the first viewing. I did not. It still works! It’s still scary as shit, believable, and a crazy-fun ride from beginning to end. The poor footage quality, total amateur filming style and distant audio sound coupled with the setting of the New England woods, holds up well. While it lacks the polish and delivery that a true filmmaker’s film would deliver, it’s supposed to. If you enjoy this movie you should also check out The Curse of the Blair Witch, a Sci-Fi Channel documentary that accompanied the theatrical release of the movie. Score 10/10

The Blair Witch Project is a 1999 American sSupernatural horror film written, directed and edited by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez. It tells the fictional story of three student filmmakers—Heather Donahue, Michael C. Williams, and Joshua Leonard—who hike in the Black Hills near Burkittsville, Maryland in 1994 to film a documentary about a local legend known as the Blair Witch. The three disappeared, but their equipment and footage is discovered a year later. The purportedly "recovered footage" is the film the viewer sees. Myrick and Sánchez conceived of a fictional legend of the Blair Witch in 1993. They developed a 35-page screenplay with the dialogue to be improvised. A casting call advertisement in backstage magazine was prepared by the directors; Donahue, Williams and Leonard were cast. The film entered production in October 1997, with the principal photographytaking place in Maryland for eight days. About 20 hours of footage was shot, which was edited down to 82 minutes.
