Episode 23 of Season 6 was a fantastic affair. It went out live on Rebel Rock Radio on 8 June 2023 at precisely 7pm. The airwaves were treated to the power and majesty of Judas Priest with 'Screaming For Vengeance'. From there it was a flurry of Deep Purple, Tesla, Airbourne and .......... see Artists Featured below for the list. This show was special because we had a worldwide exclusive launch of the second track off the forthcoming Philistine album Seranim, this one's called 'Leviticus' and it's seriously great. We also had the launch of a new feature called Mystery Song. This is a track sent to me by Metal Jaco, I agreed not to listen to it up front so was totally in the dark as to what we are going to hear. Anyway if I tell you what Mystery Track was it will spoil the podcast. It was classified by a listener as 'Linda Take Walk' Music but it went down well. The Immortals this week was a bit different, and we listened to Frank Zappa's masterpiece ‘Titties and Beer'. The Ultimate Challenge as usual got people talking, once the music started shit got real, Megadeth took it with Machine Head and Bush after that. For what its worth my pick was Machine Head. As menetioned TSORR had exclusive rights to be the first to play Philistines second release off their forthcoming album Sensium. I had a great 5 min interview which quickly went to 8 min and could easily have gone an hour. I am thinking of interviewing them again when the album launches and doing a Rock Review style one hour special when its released. Let me know if you like that idea. For the rest it was a pretty heavy show albeit with a slower taper off at the end. I hope you enjoy it. Check out the website and Facebook pages for all tings TSORR. If you want a copy of the book The Story of Rock and Roll get in touch. Artists featured: Judas Priest, Deep Purple, Tesla, Airbourne, WASP, Buckcherry, Rose Tattoo, The Screaming Jets, Accept, Doomsday Outlaw, Texas Hippie Coalition, Junkyard, Seether, Gary Moore, Molly Hatchet, The Color Blew, Halestorm, Joan Jett, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Orbit Culture, Shinedown, My Chemical Romance, Iron maiden, Ayron Jones, Frank Zappa, Bush, Megadeth, Machine Head, Pantera, Philistine, Pink Floyd, Dave Hause, Cold Chisel, Marvelous 3 The Story of Rock and Roll. Episode #151: Mystery (Song starts at 3:24 ) This song (#499) was originally titled 'The Medium' I wrote it about the time I went to visit a clairvoyant person for the 1st time. I decided to change it to 'Mystery' at a later date. I guess I thought the new title might get the song listened to more. Crash Test Dummies had a song about this subject, on a great album of theirs God Shuffled His Feet. I suppose that sort of gave me permission to write something similar. To be honest, I wasn't quite sure what I would talk about when this song popped this week. It's a very personal thing to experience and I think it pays to be discerning in terms of what you choose to share at times. As it turns out, it was easy to talk about the experience I had. The crux of this song is in the chorus where I sing ‘ I want to say thank you' - because that's precisely what I wanted to say to this person who helped at a time when I really needed a hand. It was a nice feeling, singing and playing this gentle song as part of this episode. It flowed easily. That's my memory of how the song came through, to. The words came easily, first. The last couple of verses came to me as a reflection of this time later in my life. It was such an interesting experience. We tend to view ourselves a certain way for part of our life, then something happens and we unfold a little more and our perspective changes. This song is about a time of some personal transformation in my twenties. I was searching, really - finding my own path. The music came very quickly, as easily as the words. The two parts sound very natural, then. Not forced. Which I think is a big part of what could be deemed to be a successful bit of songwriting. I'm pleased I shared this song. It's been tucked away for years, although, I did sell about 30 copies of an album I called ‘12 Quiet Songs' in 2005. Back then, I'd recently found a great Jimmy Webb album, ‘10 Easy Pieces'. I can really relate to Jimmy Webb's song writing style. He sang his songs on this album himself ( his songs have been recorded and released by all sorts of wonderful artists such as Glen Campbell). Maybe I'll re-record this album again, one day. That'd be fun. This is one of the things about recording the episodes for this podcast. It's all a work in progress. I'm enjoying the complete unknown aspect about each episode, as I'm talking and playing without a script or more than a general plan of having a chat and sharing a song. It is indeed a mystery how the episodes come together, much like songwriting. I'm looking to bring some light to the songwriting process. I'm not looking to take away the mystery, though - as if I could. It does surprise me how complicated the process is. For me, it's something that's been self taught, really. After singing lots of Elton John and Paul Simon, etc, I felt like I'd like to give this songwriting thing a go back in my teens. Which is just what I did …and here I am years down the track, having composed about 800 songs. It's nice to be sharing and taking about the songs here. I hope you enjoy hearing about the song Mystery as much as I enjoyed recording the episode. Here we go….
Before becoming one of the biggest names in rock history, Status Quo honed their craft as a holiday camp act at Butlins in Minehead. Sixty years later, the same venue was the chosen to host the last performance of John Coghlan's Quo's farewell tour. But John is not ready to hang up his drum sticks for good just yet….well…as he explains, he hasn't got a dog after all. So what does a man with such a successful career behind him do? Well…make more music, of course! The tracks features are: Rockin' All Over the World, Mystery Song and Down Down by Status Quo, and Lockdown by John Coghlan's Quo. Photo credit: Will Ireland

Episode 36 kicked off with Journey and 'Anyway You Want It', live on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 8 Sep 2022. In quick succession, we heard from Mammoth WVH, Edguy and Blackfoot. If any of you caught the Taylor Hawkins Tribute Show you will probably have been suitably impressed with Mammoth WVH's Wolfgang Van Halen, the kids got daddy's chops that is for sure. From there we went all military with 'Gods of War' from Bruce Dickinson and 'Military Man' from Gary Moore. While we were on air the news came through that the Queen had died so that led to ZZ Top with 'Have You Heard'? And Status Quo with 'Mystery Song' and then into Tom Petty with a track called ‘Flirting With Time' which is what we are all doing. Tom Morello's cover of Bob Dylan's ‘Blind Willie McTell went down really well, definitely a show highlight there. We also checked out a band I discovered about 14 years ago and I don't think I have played on TSORR, a band called Biomechanical. The new stuff came from Alter Bridge and Ozzy Osbourne. The next bit was great, it was all based around a couple of tracks from the Netflix documentary Trainwreck, Woodstock 99. You need to see it, we took a listen to Limp Bizkit with 'Break Stuff', Korn with ‘Blind' and Kid Rock with ‘Batwitadaba'. There was some good music at the turn of the century that's for sure. From there we cracked a bit of UK Punk with Stiff Little Fingers covering The Specials classic ‘Doesn't Make it Alright', some Steve Jones off the Fire & Gasoline album and a cover of Bob Marley's 'Redemption Song' courtesy of Joe Strummer. We went heavy with the title track off the brand new Megadeth album called The Sick, The Dying, and the Dead and then brand new from Parkway Drive and a track called ‘The Greatest Fear'. SA music from The Black Cat Bones and Asylum Kids took us to a lekker messy ending with Five Finger Death Punch, Arch Enemy, and the find of the year, a band called The Halo Effect, We took a listen to the opening track 'Shadowminds'. And that ladies and gentlemen was that for season 5 episode 36. Please share the podcasts with anyone who may be interested. Thanks for listening m/ Artists featured: Journey, Mammoth WVH, Edguy, Blackfoot, Bruce Dickinson, Gary Moore, Q5, Slaughter, Sons of Liberty, The Dead Daisies, ZZ Top, Tom Morello & The Nightwatchmen, Status Quo, Tom petty, Biomechanical, Kiss, Ryan Adams, Dio, Alter Bridge, Ozzy Osbourne, (feat Zakk Wylde), Theory of a Deadman Mick Jagger, Limp Bizkit, Korn, Kid Rock, Stiff Little Fingers, Steve Jones, Joe Strummer, Nazareth, Megadeth, Parkway Drive, Asylum Kids, The Black Cat Bones, The L.A. A few weeks ago, one of my "lifer friends," Bob Gilmore, sent me a radio air check of a college radio show I did at my college in Vermont in 1980. My attention was grabbed by a song that I did not recognize. Worse yet, Shazam couldn't tell me what it was either! Leave it to a teenager to solve the mystery. Let me play DJ and spin that record for you. Plus, I'll read Chapter 1 of a wonderful book authored by Alex Price. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/andrebernier/support
