On this week's bonus episode of Lever Time Premium, The Lever's Nick Campbell speaks with music writer Robin James and drummer Greg Saunier from the band Deerhoof to discuss the shifting corporate landscape of the music industry, and the larger dynamics of our economy. The three zero in on a worrisome development: The online music platform Bandcamp was recently sold to the multinational music conglomerate Songtradr, leading to layoffs of 50 percent of Bandcamp's employees amid union contract negotiations, an ominous sign for the future of the last major independent music sales platform. In today's discussion, Nick, Robin, and Greg explore the exploitative practices making the industry harder for working-class musicians — and what an equitable music industry could actually look like.A transcript of this episode is available here.Links: The Future of Rock and Roll: 97X WOXY and the Fight for True Independence by Robin James (The University of North Carolina Press, 2023) Miracle–Level by Deerhoof (Joyful Noise Recordings, 2023) What 90s Alt Rock Radio, Woodstock 99, And The Telecome Act Have To Do With Contemporary Right-Wing Media (Robin James, 2022) If you'd like access to Lever Time Premium, which includes extended interviews and bonus content, head over to LeverNews.com to become a supporting subscriber. If you'd like to leave a tip for The Lever, click the following link. Good morning! Join us as pastor, Nick Campbell, brings a message titled, Do You Love Me?
Today's blog and podcast is a guest post by Nick Campbell of Christ Is the Cure. I introduce the post and podcast with my own words then read his thoughts addressing the social media discussion asking whether women can teach other women theology. Quick take: the answer to the title's question and conclusion is YES. I wrote that- The Bible says of itself, "All Scripture is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for rebuke, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man or woman of God may be fully capable, equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Limiting your sharing of His word with other women to just one or two verses is a rejection of God's proclamation of the usefulness of His own words. Nick Campbell plays the electric bass. He was born and raised in Los Angeles and like most members of the city's bountiful music scene he spent the majority of his youth in the annals of music education. It was here that Campbell developed his unique penchant for superimposing triadic patterns over static harmony (commonly referred to as “getting modal”).You may have seen him playing bass as a sideman with (but not limited to): Pomplamoose, Scary Pockets, Charlie Puth, Vulfpeck, Meghan Trainor, Raquel Rodriguez, Nigel Hall, Josh Smith, Kirk Fletcher, Lunchmoney Lewis, Michael Mayo and Moonchild and as a leader (or co-leader) with the bands: Shrek Is Love and Bear Attack. He currently writes music under the name “Nick Campbell Destroys.” Some people think that his music sounds like a deranged amalgam of Industrial Jazz-Funk and too many tri-tone substitutions, but he thinks it just sounds like Nihilism. Nick released his debut EP "Lo-fi Bass Music For Quarantine" on August 21st, 2020, which is a collection of arrangements of standards made in his bedroom during the Covid-19 lockdown. Keep an eye out for his debut LP of all original music sometime in the next year. Also, plz respect his art.

In today's episode, we have a guest whom you all likely know. Nick Campbell with Christ is the Cure will be joining me today to discuss his upcoming book “Holidays and the Feasts” that is now available for order. Claims regarding the supposed pagan origins of Christmas always creep up this time of year and Nick put all his research, historical and biblical, into this helpful book that not only shows that the origins of the holiday are not pagan, but also lays out the inconsistencies of the arguments used in attempts to make these claims. Our conversation is a great teaser for the Christmas section of the book, but there are also sections of the book we didn't get to touch on in this interview, namely a section on the supposed pagan origins of Easter and another on whether Christians are required to keep the biblical feasts. Here's the link where you can purchase Holidays and the Feasts by Nicholas Campbell. And here's the link to more information on the book on the Christ is the Cure website:http://christisthecure.org/holidaysandthefeasts/You can find Nick on his social media accounts under the name Christ is the Cure on Instagram and Facebook.Find us on Instagram:A Matter of TruthAnthonyAlex"Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing" words and music by John Wyeth, Robert Robinson© Words: Public Domain Music: Public DomainPerformed by Sea of Voices------#Christianity #christisthecurepodcast #amatteroftruth #christianpodcast #renewingyourmind #Bible #christianpodcasters #christmastree #christmasfeast #gracetoyou #johnMacArthur #Christian #christmastime #christianpodcasts #christianpodcaster #stnicholas #orthodoxchristian #christianteens #christianmen #christianwomen #theologymatters #christalone #christianyouth #christmas #holidayseason #holiday #holidays #heisthereasonfortheseason #christalone #amatteroftruthpodcast #amatteroftruth Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. This week I'm chatting to Los Angeles native, electric bass player, Nick Campbell who is reinventing the jazz genre for this generation. Flipping traditional conventions on their head, Nick's unique penchant for superimposing triadic patterns over static harmony has brought a modern twist to “getting modal,” creating a distinctive yet eccentric sound of his own. Mirroring the musical inclusivity of his work, Nick has taken the stage with music artists of all genres. From traditional jazz bands to pop music sensations, he can be seen performing with Pomplamoose, Scary Pockets, Charlie Puth, Vulfpeck, Meghan Trainor, Raquel Rodriguez, Nigel Hall, Josh Smith, Kirk Fletcher, Michael Mayo and Moonchild (to name a few) and composing original music with bands such as Shrek Is Love and Bear Attack. This episode is part 2 in a series on False Gospels. Considering this podcast is geared toward college students, why is it necessary to cover something like the Prosperity Gospel in a podcast? In this episode I am joined by Nick Campbell, General Manager of Practice Products at Xero. Nick and I worked together at Fraedom, that's expense management software, not the furniture store as some confuse. It has been a privilege to watch Nick grow with so much capability, both in his role at Fraedom and to now be in a dream role providing him with teams to bring his product vision, aligned to organisational strategy, to life. Nick has experienced that elusive mix many strive to achieve in their career, of development and promotion with role longevity, having worked in both NZ and the UK, a testament to his talent Now leading a team of around 120 at Xero, recruitment is part of his GM package. We had such a great time catching up and sharing around recruitment and career that I've broken our conversations into two episodes. This episode focuses mostly on Nick's experiences, the recruitment process he went through with Xero as a candidate and tips for others who want to take big leadership steps in their career, the all important CV tips and what to do to stand out from other candidates. The additional beacon in this share for me was his take on vulnerability, being so incredible and beautifully articulated. I'm sure you'll take many empowered insights away from our conversation. Nick, thanks again for being here and, welcome to the Rosey On Recruitment podcast! Deep in the heart of Texas there's a tiny canine sleuth on the case. I loved talking to Texas cozy mystery author Cat Clayton about her mystery series featuring dog groomer Steely Lamarr and her loyal companion, a Chihuahua named Cuff. The Steely and Cuff mysteries are perfect for mystery lovers who like a dash of romance and a splash of quirkiness in their books. Cat's interview is perfectly timed because I think we all need a dose of the comfort that comes from reading about dogs, their loving owners, and mysteries that have a tidy resolution! In the introduction, I mention some of my favorite comforting mystery novels, podcasts, TV shows and movies with the intention of providing suggestions for comfort if you need it in these challenging times. This week's mystery author Cat Clayton writes from somewhere deep in the heart of Texas, crafting a literary crossroads where mystery, humor, the paranormal, and a dash of romance intersect. She adores her family, spoils her (half-dozen +1) pets, is a self-proclaimed coffee snob, and a thrift store junky. When she’s not writing, she’s thinking about writing, and when she’s not doing either, she attempts CrossFit. Press play (above) to listen to the show, or read the transcript below. Remember you can also subscribe to the show on Apple Podcasts. And listen on Stitcher, Android, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, and Spotify. You can also click here to listen to the interview on YouTube. Excerpt from How to Leash a Thief I declared it pie o’clock somewhere and shoved a forkful of Very Berry Scrumptious in my mouth, as I attempted to decipher the troubled expression on my boyfriend’s face, while he spat hushed, clipped words into his cell phone. The same phone issued to him by the Buckleville Police Department. Even though I couldn’t hear anything, it didn’t take Sherlock to figure out the unidentified caller had delivered bad news. Trouble had arrived in Buckleville. To distract my curiosity, I dug in for another bite. The yummy combination of buttery crust and the yin-yang of sweet and tart touched my soul. In my book, pie made everything better. I leaned in, listening to Nick’s phone call. My cheeky Chihuahua, Cuff, sat perched on my lap. His head followed my fork back and forth, bulging amber eyes begging. Nick backed up a few paces—enough to evade my prying ears. Doggonit. Moments ago, we’d been arguing over the fact he’d caught me going through his things. Again. I couldn’t help myself. Recently, I’d found a receipt for a bouquet of long-stemmed red roses from the Crazy Daisy. A bouquet I’d never received. Nick’s Bull Mastiff, Trigger, snoozed in the kitchen. His massive body lay sprawled on the tile floor, drooling. Cuff had been a moment of weakness while driving out of the Buckleville Food’s parking lot. One glimpse at the older male pup caged in a rickety-wired monstrosity, and I melted. It was love at first sight. “Who is it?” I whispered to Nick. I set my pie plate down on the counter and put Cuff on the floor. He padded over next to Trigger and collapsed. He lowered his tiny muzzle between his two front paws and eyed me. With his cell phone glued to his ear, Nick scowled. I glanced over at the framed picture of us from last Christmas. I’d met Nick Campbell last winter at the downtown Holiday Stroll after he’d transferred to Buckleville PD. My first real, intimate relationship, and I intended to make it last. Before Nick, I was a 25-year-old virgin, a hopeless old-school romantic; it still happens. Despite “friendly advice” and “prayerful thought” from others, who thought we were moving too quickly, I tumbled head over boot heels in love. But our romance had taken a turn for bitter and questionable, like milk gone blinky. Glaring in my direction, Nick reached over and snatched the small notepad he carried while on duty. No stranger to trouble, I recognized the look.

Nick Campbell Destroys is on a mission. By infusing his offbeat sense of humor into his writing, bassist Nick Campbell seeks to destroy musical boundaries. Is it jazz? Is it pop? What is it? Does it matter? All these questions will come up during this episode. But, one thing is undeniable – Nick and his bandmates (Jacob Mann, keys and Christian Euman, drums) are extraordinary musicians who are at the center of a burgeoning improvisation scene in Los Angeles. Nick Campbell Destroys plays three songs live from the Joy Sounds studio: “Drinking Gin at Arby’s,” “Promise,” and “Tribal Violence is my Love Language.” Open your mind and ears and follow Nick @nickcampbelldestroys

As with anything, there’s a learning curve to 3D animation. There’s always more to learn and more ways for expertise to be honed. Knowing where to look for education and new skills can be tricky. Today’s guest knows this well and has created many resources that any 3D animator can start using right away. Nick and I also spoke about how to promote and market yourself as a motion designer. Nick Campbell is the owner of Greyscalegorilla where he’s been helping 3D artists for over ten years by creating trainings, 3D tools, plug-ins, and other materials that artists need to get the job done. Considering that Nick started Greyscalegorilla as a photo-blog, it’s truly impressive what it has become. In our chat today, Nick shares the story of how Greyscalegorilla organically developed into what it is today. We talk about using your background to develop skills that you are passionate about and where to turn to for valuable lessons and instruction. As Nick has discovered, many times, the best teachers are still students themselves. Nick is no stranger to negative criticism. He doesn’t let that stop him though. Sometimes its best to ignore it and other times it’s an opportunity to learn. We discuss the value of receiving all sorts of feedback and how it is an essential part of being an artist. I ask Nick what would say to 3D artists who are just starting their careers. His advice is to just work on developing your skills rather than trying to be groundbreaking. Just as any musician starts out playing covers of other musicians’ songs, new motion animators need to hone their craft before they worry about being original. Nick makes the point that marketing is not a bad thing. Many artists shun the idea of marketing. But in truth, all marketing needs to be is letting people know that you can solve the problem that they have and getting the word out that that is what you do. In this episode Combining your interests, skills, and passions into a single pursuit Who the best people to learn from really are Approaching negative feedback in a useful way Why animators should work on being good rather than original when they’re just starting out How to promote and market yourself as a motion designer Why it’s fine to be a generalist but your marketing should be niche Quotes “After Effects was such a piece of software that it opened my eyes to the possibility of what computers could do.” [7:02] “I have this theory that all the weird jobs that we had growing up prepare us for what we ultimately end up doing in our life, even if they’re not connected.”[11:42] “Don’t be afraid of critique. Don’t be afraid of feedback. By letting that happen, you’re actually building the tools you need to become a better artist.” [19:09] “All marketing is solving a problem that other people need to be solved. If you are able to solve that problem and you’re not letting them know about, that’s on you.” [37:33] Links Find Nick Campbell online at Greyscalegorilla Follow Nick on Twitter | Instagram | Facebook | YouTube Intro to Cinema 4d Freelance Contract Bundle Show Notes
