On this week's edition of the Flavors of Northwest Arkansas podcast, we're at Butterscotch in the Bentonville Square- you know the place- part bakery, part bar. We get into that, but first! FOOD NEWS! Applications are open for the Arkansas Food Hall of Fame... The original location of Slim Chickens is closed until summer, we think. We took video yesterday and, well, the original building is gone. Cobblestone Farms in Fayetteville is now reserving 2025 Spring/Summer CSA shares.... The 2nd annual NWA's shortest St. Patrick's Day parade has been announced. We have the particulars. Fayetteville's Spoon Fusion Korea Oh-K Dog on Dickson Street will temporarily close starting today and will re-open the 24th, according to their social media post. (*) Some sad news to report. Popular Fayetteville Food Truck Swag Banh Mi announced yesterday that they'll be closing down in 3 months. We'll hear why from a co-owner. Sam Gibson is the Director of Operations and Bar Manager of Butterscotch Bakery and Bar in the Bentonville Square. He's been there since he helped concept it with longtime friends and owners Sam and Larissa KcKenzie. He'll tell us why it's a bakery and bar, of course, a unique pairing.. Also, how did they wrangle prime real estate on the Bentonville square?!?! We'll hear that story as well. We'll talk about the bakery and what Sam wants to see on store shelves nation-wide from there, and he makes us some EXCEPTIONAL Butterscotch Old Fashions, I can say that it's the best Old Fashion that I've ever had... Sidenote- a bit of explicit language in this one, so plan accordingly. Thanks for listening- listen wherever you get your podcasts, and watch now on YouTube!

Jeff Mitchell, President of the Green Bay Gamblers and from Blue Green Events, joins to talk about the upcoming Old Fashioned Fest on September 21. Old Fashions can be made in many different ways (on bar wants to light one on fire). In addition to Old Fashions, the night includes light fare food and music at the Resch Center. Jeff tells Jim (after linens inevitably come up) to throw a Harvey Wallbanger party. Jim's already planning. Kristen Ambos from Point Mortgage Corporation joins to gives us a housing market update and the movement on rates. She says they are going in the right direction but SLOWLY. As long as rent stays high the demand to buy a home exists. Kristen tells us she has many parents coming to her talking about watching their kids work so hard and barely moving forward because of price increases and what options are available to help with housing or passing the house on. The world is obsessed with technology. The mortgage industry is obsessed too.Conversations centre around using technology, the latest and greatest CRM, chatbots and AI, video meetings, systems, process flows, automations, social media, digital marketing and more. The fintech sector is buzzing with 1001 things to make business and life easier. All valid and valuable topics by the way. Lots of useful products and solutions. Noargument there. But there is a problem with this.In fact there are two problems.First, the use of technology to avoid actually doing the work. For example, wanting ton use digital marketing and have hot, qualified leads magically appear… rather than going out, talking to people, building partnerships and selling yourself.Second, the use of technology as a replacement for what works. For example, building a successful mortgage business off the back of networking, partnerships and business development… then replacing that in favour of building a digital marketing strategy. We see both of these happening all the time, even with experienced and successful operators. In this episode of Mortgage Broker Acceleration, learn why technology is great and cannot be overlooked… but also why traditional tactics are just as great, cannot be overlooked, and often work better than the new shiny objects being chased.Accelerate FasterYou can visit Broker Ideas Group to learn more about us, access special events and download useful resources designed exclusively for mortgage brokers.Want to work with James, Ash and the BIG team to grow your mortgage business faster? Peak Centralization of Legacy Media & Old Fashion Beliefs It is a lot easier to control 3 news networks than 3,000 podcasts. Especially when those 3 outlets get government funding. You may have been taught that you have to get a college degree. Ask yourself, “If 150,000 College graduates can't even pay off their own school loans, what good is that degree?” We may have reached peak centralization. Now we are seeing decentralization in media, learning centers, and even in money. www.RealPowerFamily.com Info@ClearSkyTrainer.com 833-Be-Do-Have (833-233-6428)
My 2004 UGA Law School Classmate Erica Parson and her husband, Mark Stewart, join the podcast in a hilarious, information and feel good episode. We sampled some Old Fashions and had a great time. Raised in Montgomery, AL, Erica spent her undergraduate years at Auburn University studying English and French. She worked in the South of France at the Festival d’Avignon for a summer and once she came to terms with the fact that she likely would not achieve her lifelong dream of becoming Queen of England, she decided to take her talents for zealous advocacy to the University of Georgia School of Law. She was so devoted to UGA’s advocacy program that Erica (and her husband Mark) have the unique honor of being the only couple to ever be married in the Hatton-Lovejoy Courtroom at the law school. After graduating from UGA, Erica began her practice in coastal Alabama, but relocated to Atlanta where she spent nearly two decades in Atlanta focusing her practice on general liability and automobile insurance defense, bad faith and coverage litigation with several major defense firms in the city. She is licensed to practice in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee and has successfully litigated cases in both state and federal courts at the trial and appellate levels. In 2020, Erica and her husband relocated to Rabun County, where she worked remotely and began to reimagine her career. Inspired by the work he had done over the years, Erica reached out to Arman about embarking on a new chapter together. With two decades of litigation experience, Erica has developed a uniquely measured approach to the practice of law that centers on compassion, understanding, and integrity with a healthy dose of good humor and a touch of irreverence. Erica lives by the wise wisdom of Roadhouse’s James Dalton: ‘All you have to do is follow three simple rules. One, never underestimate your opponent. Expect the unexpected. Two, take it outside. Never start anything inside the bar unless it’s absolutely necessary. And three, be nice. . . until it’s time to not be nice.’” Erica recently moved to Auburn, Alabama with her husband Mark and three dogs Waylon, Jesse and Hank so they could all be closer to family. She set up shop in the Columbus office and, in addition to her Georgia cases, is handling the firm’s Alabama and Tennessee cases, usually with Waylon and/or Jesse in the office with her.
