No precisely about John Milton's "Paradise Lost", but a poetic interpretation of the Hip Hop landmark song: "Gansta's Paradise". A single by American rapper Coolio, which was released on August 1, 1995 by Tommy Boy, Warner Bros. and MCA. Interpolating or sampling Stevie Wonder's song "Pastime Paradise" (1976 -double album Songs In "The Key Of Life"). In addition, the composition features vocals from American singer [[L.V.]], won a Grammy Award, and was credited for changing the course of Hip Hop by bringing it to a wider audience, besides the song was commissioned for the soundtrack of the movie "Dangerous Minds" in which Michelle Pfeiffer played as teacher and ex-marine": "LouAnne Johnson" . "Gangsta's Paradise" became a protest song that criticized violence and life in the marginalized neighborhoods focusing on the need for social change. It is like "César Vallejo" coined: "Every brilliant voice comes from the people and returns to them." PS. Stevie Wonder's Pastime Paradise is a socially conscious track from his critically acclaimed 1976 album Songs in the Key of Life. Produced by Wonder himself, the song features a unique orchestration with a choir and a haunting melody driven by synthesizers. It tackles themes of social injustice and fleeting dreams, making it one of Wonder's most politically charged songs. The track gained further recognition when Coolio famously interpolated it for his 1995 hit Gangsta's Paradise, earning Grammy success. Bow Wow's Like You, featuring Ciara, was released in 2005 as part of his fourth studio album Wanted. Produced by Jermaine Dupri and Bryan-Michael Cox, the song is a smooth R&B/hip-hop ballad detailing a deep romantic connection. It became a major hit, peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the Hot Rap Songs chart. The track helped cement Bow Wow's transition from a child star to a serious artist in the industry. Welcome to the Weird Al vs. Everybody season of MASTAS! We're looking at a couple dozen Weird Al Yankovic songs and the originals that inspired him, and choosing a winner in each match-up -- starting with Coolio homage "Amish Paradise"! Before we get into self-serious videos for movies we think might be fake, cultural appropriation of pre-tech societies, and how Stevie Wonder feels about our swearing, we've got an important announcement about voting and future in-person events...but then we're back to discussing whether Weird Al-chemy turns "Gangsta's" into gold. Listen now, English! Our intro is by David Gregory Byrne; the WAvE theme-let is a mash-up of Oingo Boingo, Elvis Costello, Black Box, and Michael Buffer; and our outro is by The Primitives. Recorded over two years, the album is arguably Stevie's finest hour and is also one of the greatest albums of all time as it contains hit after hit. “Sir Duke”, “I Wish”, “Pastime Paradise”, “Isn't She Lovely”, “As” and “Another Star” are all included making this truly a masterpiece. To make an album that doesn't contain an average song is hard enough, let alone doing it on a double album as Stevie has done here. Read more about your favourite albums here: classicalbumsundays.com

It is a Grammy Award - winning hit single “Gangsta's Paradise”, as well as other singles like “Fantastic Voyage”, (1994) and “ C U When You Get There” (1997). I remember him most by the hit single “ Gangsta's Paradise”. Coolio had a message. Gangsta's Paradise is the second studio album released in Nov. 7, 1995. It is Coolio's best-selling album, with over two million copies sold in the U.S. The song released as single “Gangsta's Paradise” reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. His other two singles released were “1, 2, 3, 4 ( Sumpin New) and “Too Hot”.When I hear about all of the school shootings and shootings in the streets, I sometimes think of Coolio and his rap message, Gangsta's Paradise.Interpolating Stevie Wonder's 1976 song “Pastime Paradise” and featuring singer L.V., I remember when they all performed together on 1995 Billboard Awards. L.V. Known as Larry Sanders sang: Just start living your life - living for the future paradise … Ain't No gangstas living in paradise. The song Gangsta's Paradise was listed at number 85 on Billboard's Greatest Songs of All Time. The song was used in the 1995 film Dangerous Minds starring Michelle Pfeiffer. We lost Coolio on Sept. 28, 2022 at age 59. I hope to see him in the future paradise one day.I'm Gail Nobles. Thank you for listening. Tune in again next time.
We do something a little different this week. One of the biggest and most impactful songs of the 90s relied heavily on sampling and was subsequently significantly parodied. Both of those use the music of a nearby song to tell a new story, and it sheds some light on how the business of cover songs works. Gangsta's Paradise, originally by Coolio, sampled Pastime Paradise by Stevie Wonder, and parodied in Amish Paradise by Weird Al Yankovic. Outro music is Eat It, also by Weird Al Yankovic.

Rich Quick is The Everywhere Man just getting back from a tour in Europe and with his new album The Everywhere Man ready to drop! Connect with Rich Quick richmfnquick.com @RichMFNQuick It's always a great time when my man Rich Quick gets to stop by my studio. Last time we hung out was a little before he went on tour in Europe. He drove down from New England to co-host my 1 year anniversary show with me! We talk about his experience touring abroad as well as his new album that came out September 28th! You can order his album on iTunes here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2k1xFmWLEM https://soundcloud.com/richmfnquick/rich-quick-the-everywhere-man-prod-by-snowgoons More about Rich Quick Learning to play piano by ear, mimicking riffs and bass lines he heard on the radio and television; this was the beginning of Rich Quick's music career. At the age of 7 he obtained a copy of Coolio's “Gangsta's Paradise”. The CD had another track on it, the instrumental which sampled Stevie Wonder's “Pastime Paradise” from Songs In The Key Of Life Vol. 1. Quick spent hours penning rhymes to the instrumental as a child not knowing this was the start of a life long passion. Born and raised in Woodbury New Jersey, Quick spent his grade school years listening to music and learning how to write raps. In middle-school, Quick met two other young rap artists named Anthony “Loc” McCoy and Maurice “Moe Psalms” Junius, then known as Moe Cheeks. They set out to gather a super-group of best local emcee's. The group gradually grew to six members; Loc, Moesama, J-Wev, Patch, Shad Dook and of course, Rich Quick. They was known as Rag Tag due to their diverse and disorderly composition. In 2002 Rich Quick released his first solo project, “Get Rich Quick” which along with appearances on Rag Tag group projects helped build the buzz for his follow up LP “The Movement” in 2004. By late 2005 Rich had caught the attention of then Blakout Records President Ccelli. After Blakout Records dissolved Quick linked back with Ccelli and Jodie to join their roster at Exponent Entertainment, a Philadelphia based Hip-Hop management company. This introduced Rich to the Philadephia Hip Hop scene. He began building his buzz in the Philly area but performing at various high profile shows and appearing DJ NoPhrillz and Benja Styles mixtapes. In April 2012 Rich Quick released “I'm With The DJ” Hosted by DJ NoPhrillz and Benja Styles. The mixtape was deemed by critics as a tribute to the many art forms within the Hip Hop culture. Rich created a strong foundation for the tape by showing a well rounded view of the art of emceeing, experimenting with song structure, unique rhyme patterns and flows. The first 500 physical copies of the mixtape included 1 of 5 limited edition hand drawn Hip Hop themed Art Cards. Rich included the Art Cards as a testament to Hip Hop's influence on art and pop culture. The mixtape helped Rich get featured on websites like Allhiphop, TheSource, RapMusic and more. Rich also landed a whirlwind of interviews, cyphers, features and was propelled to doing more than 80 shows in 2012. During Rich's tour promoting “I'm With The DJ” Rich was asked to perform with notable New Jersey producer Mr. Green at event called Beats and Rhymes. This show was a turning point in Rich's career. It was that evening Quick began a conversation with Jeff Davis aka Stress the White Boy. Stress impressed by Rich's performance invited Rich to work on some records with his production group STREECE™, Stress and Chuck Treece. Once in the studio the artistic chemistry between Rich, Stress and Chuck become apparent and the three decided to work on an EP titled “Sad Songz”. Slated for release summer 2013 Sad Songz is sure to take Rich's career to next level. Episode 197

Stevie Wonder - Pastime Paradise I've been having Stevie Wonder flashbacks since I produced a Powerpoint slide show for my Aunt Mary's birthday a few weeks ago. (I used Isn't She Lovely with silly pictures of old ladies, and it was a hit.) So, keep it hush, since I don't want to be hunted down by the mean old RIAA or anything. Anyway... Back to Stevie. Songs In The Key Of Life (1976) is part of the holy trinity of magical Wonder albums, along with Innervisions and Talking Book, and I like to revisit it from time to time. Since it raked in Grammy Awards for Album Of The Year, and both Best Male Pop Vocal and Best Male R & B Vocal, it's a worthy flashback as we approach Grammy Sunday this weekend. I chose Pastime Paradise, since so many people remember the Coolio song, Gangsta's Paradise (also a Grammy winner,) but don't necessarily know just how much borrowing he did from Stevie's original. Most call it "sampling," but I'd call it a cover song. Coolio changed some lyrics and added that memorable bass line, giving the song more urgency, but it's still a cover.
