This week on Comfort Eating, Grace is joined by superstar DJ, King of Ibiza, and namesake of his own rhyming slang: it's Pete Tong MBE. Pete is one of the most influential figures in dance music; without him, house music and club culture would not be what they are today. He is about to go back on the road in the UK with his 10th year of Ibiza Classics – described as an event for the relapse raver. Born in Kent, Pete was raised on classic British 60s fare, and he remembers with fondness tins of baked beans and sausages, and recalls with horror the foods he endured at boarding school. Grace and he discuss wining and dining Run-DMC when he was trying to get them to sign to his label, and what Noel Gallagher's pet fish may or may not have eaten during the wild noughties running with the Primrose Hill set

In this episode we consider why it's so difficult to define a working person (as our government is finding out) and we consider if the days of PRs doing ‘dodgy' desk research is over. We'll discuss the praise Macdonald's has been enjoying in the way it handled the visit of one Donald Trump and how Airbnb has been going into Comms battle with the residents of Primrose Hill, or as it's better known ‘the place where Paddington Bear lives'. And of course, it would be remiss of us not to tackle this Autumnal topical episode without mentioning the Budget. Has this Budget been a process that has been more heavily trailed, discussed, dissected, and fought over than any before? This edition of The Little Questions is hosted by Apella partners Andrew Brown and Matt Young. Andrew Brown; formerly Director of Communications and Public affairs at Ageas Insurance, Andrew has more than ten years' experience leading the corporate affairs functions for global, listed, multifaceted firms across a range of regulated and unregulated sectors. He has considerable experience in issues, crisis and change management as well as reputation sentiment analysis and insight. Formerly Director of Communications at Drax Group plc and Group Corporate Affairs Director at Regus plc. Matt Young has 25 years of experience across media relations, public affairs, regulatory development, employee engagement, brand development, competition and CSR. Group corporate affairs director at Lloyds Banking Group, part of the senior team which rescued the bank and rebuilt its reputation following the financial crisis. Formerly communications director at Santander UK and board member of the BBA. You can get in touch by emailing podcast@apellaadvisors.com and please consider leaving us a review. Our story returns to London, and a dinner date on Primrose Hill.
During the Second World War, Bushy Park was home to a sprawling military base. This is where General Dwight D. Eisenhower came to work on a top-secret plan called ‘Operation Overlord'. On 6 June 1944, after months of preparation, the plan was ready – 156,000 Allied troops invaded Normandy, some landing on the beaches and others arriving by air. Now known as D-Day, this event ultimately led to the defeat of Nazi Germany. And so much of it was planned right here in the park. Listen on to learn more about this amazing piece of history. This episode tells the tale of when Chantal and Grainne took to the stage at the iconic London Venue, The Museum of Comedy with a double bill of brilliant shows. On this week's #MondayMile podcast, I have a lovely little chat with Olympian, sports broadcaster and all-round boss lady Dame @realdeniselewis. Denise is a legend of British athletics. She specialised in the Heptathlon, and became the first European to bring home the Gold medal at the Sydney Olympics in 2000. She's received numerous accolades in her lifetime, and became a Dame in the 2023 New Year Honours. We take a rainy walk around Primrose Hill and speak about this impressive career, starting from her humble beginnings in Wolverhampton, to competing at the highest level of athletics. These days you're more likely to find her in a studio than on the track, and we talk about it feels to commentate on those who have come after her. We also touch on representation, and how important it is to see diversity within sport. I ask Denise about her most satisfying physical challenge – an intense rowing excursion on the TV show ‘Don't Rock The Boat'. And of course, I couldn't resist asking the honour of receiving a Damehood. I do agree that Dames should get free parking - seems like a no-brainer. Denise is a pioneer and a complete inspiration to be around - I loved having her on the pod! Check it out on your favourite podcast platform! #mondaymilepodcast #deniselewis #athletics #olympics #heptathlon
She was a part of the Primrose Hill set, married to Jude Law, and friends with Kate Moss. The action-packed life of actress/producer/fashion designer Sadie Frost from the heady days of the nineties through 30 years in the entertainment industry, navigating media scandals, phone hacking, and a highly publicised divorce. On this week's episode of the On a Mission podcast, Sadie shares the lessons she's learned from 30 years in the entertainment industry and how she has built the strength and emotional resilience to pursue a life that's true to who she really is. Now, 30 years after her first starring role in Hollywood blockbuster Francis Ford Coppola's vampire classic, she is back on the big screen, taking the world by storm as a director and filmmaker. But it's been an incredible journey of self-discovery getting to this point. KEY TAKEAWAYS Sadie had a diverse upbringing, growing up in a hippie environment and being exposed to alternative practices such as yoga, meditation, and holistic healing from a young age. It was Sadie's raw ambition and drive to succeed in the entertainment industry which led to a scholarship at Italia Conti and a career in acting and modelling. Sadie definitely experienced the negative effects of fame and media scrutiny, including phone hacking and sensationalised stories, which impacted her mental health and relationships. We as a society of fame-watchers, must do better. Always focus on the importance of kindness, understanding, and support for those struggling with mental health issues, as well as the need to challenge societal norms and stereotypes. Sadie's journey towards wellness and self-care includes practices such as meditation, breathwork, grounding, and the companionship of a pet, which have helped her navigate challenges and find peace of mind. BEST MOMENTS "People just need to be thoughtful of how someone else is feeling and support people that are struggling." "I think the press like to kind of manufacture, they like to kind of create a kind of persona about people and things. Something would be written and it would be manipulated and changed." "I did get stronger, but I do resent the fact that I lost that time sometimes with the children and I couldn't have the normal things that you want to do with your kids." - Interviewee "You could very easily get a picture of someone blinking and say they're drunk!" Could a “super-hub” planned for the high-speed London-to-Birmingham rail link once the Cameron-Osborne government's flagship transport project be headed for the buffers?Because a four-and-a-half mile stretch crucial for getting passengers into central London from HS2's planned Old Oak Common interchange, near Wormwood Scrubs, is on ice as Euston project costs rocket from £2.6 billion to £4.8 billion. Now the Department for Transport's delaying the Euston project until the 2040s - that's a decade later than planned - as construction costs spiral and designers struggle to make the new HS2 station fit with the existing terminus.Nearby Camden residents have already suffered years of anxiety from the disruption - now they're in limbo living near a vast crater of a building site, with many fearing for their property values, structural integrity from tunnelling and mental health. The Leader podcast speaks with freelance journalist Ella Jessel, who's been investigating the project for the Standard's Homes & Property.Plus, how residents in Primrose Hill have seen their property prices fall and daily lives disrupted, with actress and local campaigner Annabel Leventon. Remember when we were all obsessed with the car keys in the bowl and the partying ways of London's Primrose Hill? The likes of Kate, Sadie, Pearl and that guy from Supergrass were rarely off the front pages of UK tabloids with their non-stop wild lifestyles. We were all glued to the exploits of the darlings of the scene, Jude Law and Sienna Miller, and it would seem for this week's fantastic guest, comedian Harriet Kemsley, this era is her Vietnam, as she never really left. Grainne and Chantal revel in the mess and mayhem of the bright young things of the mid-noughties and you'll be right back with them too, so get the skinny jeans and tassels out of storage, mama's got a date on the hill! Heathenry is a general term for a variety of Anglo-Saxon religions. Many accounts describe the Druids of this ancient era in a plethora of contradicting ways.
