This week, we're leaving the guitar-smashing world of Blur behind and stepping into the strange, animated universe of Gorillaz with their massive 2000s classic “Feel Good Inc.” Diallo & LUXXURY break down how Damon Albarn went from Britpop frontman to the voice behind one of the most original bands of the era — and how a song built on a nasty bassline, eerie laughter, acoustic strums, and De La Soul's unforgettable feature became impossible to pin down and even harder to forget. The guys get into Demon Days, Jamie Hewlett's wild Gorillaz concept, the genius of turning a “band” into a whole fictional world, and why “Feel Good Inc.” feels like a party record, a cartoon transmission, and a weird little warning all at once. Along the way, they trace the early bridge from Blur to Gorillaz, unpack the song's strange mix of hip-hop, alt-rock, and pop, and talk about how this record keeps finding new life with listeners who weren't even there the first time around. Klein. In. Oil! Klein's been working on his body all spring and today was the big reveal of his summer bod. He lathered himself in shimmering body oil and paraded himself around the studio just as a bunch of guests were arriving. You gotta check out today's YouTube livestream to see it for yourself. Gorillaz' Jamie Hewlett finally sent us a package as a thank you for the jacket Klein gave him last time he stopped by the studio. We also got another big deliver: our KAS branded burger bibs from Burger 3000! And speaking of burgers... Three high end burger spots stopped by the studio today to celebrate burger week. They cooked up burgers in our company kitchen and brought in some of the best burgers we've ever seen. In order to earn the right to eat them, Jake had to do a blind smell test and correctly identify the burgers. It went haywire in the end because Johnny is a massive idiot. We also heard from Ally's wife today during Lezbihonest. The question was: is katie turned on by Ally's pregnancy boobs? Her answer revealed a plot twist none of us saw coming... Plus we learned what annoying thing you're doing at grocery checkouts during Clickbait, uncovered a scam our company was trying to pull on us, and challenged Jake to travel somewhere new to combat his early onset agoraphobia. Hertogenbosch, here we come!
Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett were born 10 days apart from each other... Then, their dads both died within 10 days of each other... They have always been close, but the duo behind the Gorillaz sharing such an intimate experience seems nothing less than cosmically ordained. To deal with their grief, they went on an adventure to India, with it's profound acceptance of death and it's gods and reincarnations. Together, while coming to terms with their loss, they created one of the most beautiful and intimate works that Gorillaz has ever done. Some are saying it's the next Plastic Beach... I'd say it's more like Plastic Beach—reincarnated.

Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett — the architects of the Grammy-winning, multi-platinum band Gorillaz — are back with their 9th studio record, The Mountain. It might be the group's most personal record yet, as it follows a fictional story inspired by real events. After Damon and Jamie both lost their fathers, they decided to travel to India where they gained a new understanding of death and family. The Mountain was the result of that journey. Damon and Jamie join guest host Talia Schlanger to open up about the album and the personal loss that fuelled it.

Torna l'MCU con Captain America: Brave New World. Link Utili:Patreon Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. Over the course of his 35-year career, Damon Albarn has reached international fame with two very different bands. In 1988, Damon created the rock band Blur with four friends in his native London. Blur started out as what Damon calls a “classic art school band” before quickly moved to the forefront of the ‘90s Britpop explosion along with their formal rivals, Oasis. After a series of successful albums with Blur, Damon started Gorillaz in 1998 with cartoonist Jamie Hewlett. Dubbed as the world's first virtual band, the Gorillaz rotating lineup includes collaborations with De La Soul, Stevie Nicks, Bobby Womack and Lou Reed. The band pulls influence from electronic music, hip-hop and world music, and over the last 25 years, Gorillaz has been wildly successful—selling over 30 million albums worldwide. Despite having found such success, Damon has never stopped exploring his artistic potential. He's written an opera, released solo and side projects, and recently, he reunited with Blur to release the band's latest album called The Ballad Of Darren. On today's episode Leah Rose talks to Damon Albarn about what it's like for Blur to headline international music festivals in 2023. Damon also reveals how Gorillaz are about to undergo a major paradigm shift. And he explains how, according to family lore, John Lennon and Yoko Ono first met at his dad's counterculture art gallery in London.

This episode we are giving ourselves a little summer break and throwing it back to one of our favorites, Banksy! Happy Summer Everyone! In today's episode, Zack has 30 minutes to become an "expert" on... Banksy! Who is Banksy? Okay, we didn't actually figure out Banksy's true identity in this episode, but we did learn a whole lot about the anonymous street artist. In today's world, it's pretty rare to maintain true anonymity in spite of worldwide fame, but somehow Banksy has managed it. This is a really visual episode for obvious reasons, so definitely check out our instagram @30minuteexpertpodcast to see all of the cool works of art Zack so eloquently describes. Including: A teddy bear throwing a molotov cocktail! Princess Diana on English currency! Steve Jobs as a Syrian migrant! And more! Banksy has a lot to say, and a really creative way of saying it. Whether he's Mr. Brainwash, Robert Del Naja from Massive Attack, Jamie Hewlett of the Gorillaz, or random man Robin Gunnigham, he's an impressive and always surprising fellow. Fight the power along with him (and us) and listen! Highlights include: - A Spontaneously Shredded $1.37 Million-Dollar Work of Art - Original Banksys on sale for $60 at a hot dog stand - Banksy's TRUE IDENTITY (just kidding) Donate to the ACLU: https://action.aclu.org/give/donate-to-aclu-multistep Donate to the NAACP: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/naacp-1 Follow on instagram @30minuteexpertpodcast and twitter @30minexpertpod Send us your expertise at 30minuteexpertpodcast@gmail.com And please rate and review!
