Rusijai tęsiant karą prieš Ukrainą, ekspertai įspėja apie bręstančią aplinkosaugos katastrofą. Aplinkosaugininkai teigia, kad Ukrainos gamtai daroma žala – nuo bombardavimų sukeliamų miškų gaisrų iki atakų prieš gamyklas, iš kurių išsilieja teršalai - gali prilygti karo nusikaltimams. Negana to, įsisiūbavęs karas didina išmetamųjų dujų kiekį, o Rusijos energetikai sankcijas įvedusios valstybės didina investicijas ne į žaliąją energetiką, o į alternatyvius iškastinio kuro šaltinius. Business to Government and Democratization of Space with Jason Held, CEO of Saber Astronautics

The next business frontier, in terms of physical spaces, is not one you can physically walk on. I'm talking about outer space, and I'm talking about it today with my friend, Jason Held, CEO of Saber Astronautics. I got to know Jason a few years back by chance, and immediately was captivated by his story, his passion, and his ground-breaking work in the space industry. Based in Boulder, Colorado, and in Sydney, Australia, Jason and his team are creating access to new areas of the space industry through better game-like user interfaces. Navigating business ‘friendly-enemy' relationships in the industry and operating in the complex world of business to government relationships is no small feat, but Jason saw an opportunity as a new graduate and couldn't say no. “Business to government, if you know how to play that game, is really lucrative. Fast forward, I did my Ph.D. in Australia, this was about 2007 when I was graduating, and there was a new category of satellites called CubeSats. If you think about the size of a spacecraft back then for an industry-level mission and things that are doing satellite communications or, or earth observation, things that produce large amounts of money, these historically are half a billion-dollar spacecraft, massive infrastructure required to do something like that. Well, the new category was what had just been embedded between 2005/2007 and they were the size of a toaster. The cost for starting your space company was less than half the cost of a juice bar range.”Lowering that financial barrier to entering the space industry was all it took for Jason to dive in. In this episode, he walks us through his process of disrupting the space industry by creating Saber Astronautics. He talks about the complexities of their business model working with both governments, and businesses. Jason shares about how their innovative PIGI software was created,  and the rise of downstream space industry service companies and micro-industries like this. He's predicting cool things for the future in space - all this up next on Marketing Trends. Main Takeaways:Business to Government Model: It's not one talk about a lot on this show but it creates some fun challenges in every aspect of the business. Biggest words of wisdom are, be ready to fight. The contracts are lucrative which means there's some fierce competition for them. When you get into government contract work, know that the voices of doubt won't just be coming from inside of your head; the government contracting industry is cut-throat. Space Traffic Regulation Is Coming: The amount of space debris, and operating satellites spinning constantly over our heads is increasing every day, and therefore so is the need for regulation and safety policies. Who should set these, what exactly they should be, and how they would be enforced are all up for debate in the community at this point, as companies and governments alike race to capitalize on the next ‘gold-rush' of business opportunity. Space For All: What Space Democratization Means: For the space industry, and for business, the creation of CubeSats removed a massively prohibitive cost barrier to both businesses operating in the industry and students learning how to work in it. Companies like Jason's could raise a normal business-sized amount of capital to start building out software, which they have done. Key Quotes:“It was a fistfight. We competed against companies that were 20 to 100 times our size, two of the largest defense contractors in Australia were our primary competitors, and they led up to, everybody said we couldn't do it. I was getting calls at two in the morning from our competitors saying, ‘what are you doing? You're never gonna make it.' And we persevered and we made it there. “We have a very strong product and very strong brand in that part of the world and everybody recognized that. We were told by the companies we were talking to that we had to prove that we were good enough and that's how the conversation went. So there wasn't a lot of incentive for partnering in that case. The other part was we started getting a lot of calls from people asking us if we were bidding. The volume got high enough and we said, let's go for it.”“Business to government, if you know how to play that game, is really lucrative. The cost for starting your space company was less than half the cost of a juice bar range.“Historically space tools are bespoke. It's like the matrix. You've got a whole bunch of words on a screen and operators trying to figure out what is going on. ‘We said, why don't you turn that into a video game?' It's easy to use this human interface, this user interface, modern UI UX design, and reduce the barrier to entry to actually make space as easy as flying a car is our goal. So normally, like you need a Ph.D. or a Masters 15 years experience to get trusted with, with the satellite. We've got undergraduate interns, 20-21 years old, and first time we sit down, have a go.”“There is no space traffic solution globally. The U.S. military has been running it for most of the Western world, but they want to be space warriors, not space traffic cops. So much more material is coming out there. We've got 7,500 satellites that are active in space today and I think that's going to grow to 40,000 by the end of the decade. Some people are predicting a hundred thousand satellites and for every satellite, you've got 10 times more in pieces of debris floating around and it's all traveling at eight kilometers a second. If you get hit by one of those, that'll ruin your day. We do a lot of work in that field.”“We need someone to do it [patrol space traffic.] It can't be military; can't be a single government; it has to be a consortium of governments. I think it should be a public-private partnership because right now a lot of companies like Saber are competing for tools to be a part of that next gold rush. It's a hard thing to justify because it's related to the safety of flight.”“PIGI is our mission control software. We use it for entry-level design. With it, you're able to design all of your orbits and plan any orbit from it, pretty much any planet in the solar system, and use the outputs of that to plan your business. Students use it for their student projects but we really made this useful for entrepreneurs, people who want to start their own space businesses someday. They use it to calculate the addressable market for their mission plan.” Bio:Jason is a space engineer with 20 years of experience in spacecraft, operations, mission control, and team leadership. Space is a personal passion of his. He founded Saber Astronautics as the mechanism to contribute to this industry. For the last 10 years, this has been a practical application of machine learning and 3d graphics making space easy to control and to solve operational problems such as flight diagnostics, swarm control, space weather, orbital dynamics, etc. Saber now sells to the US Air Force, Australian Air Force, and a growing range of commercial satellite owners. Before founding Saber Astronautics, he was a US Army Major for USSTRATCOM (Space Command) and deployed internationally during wartime. He taught at the Interservice Space Fundamentals Course and served as an active duty engineer at Army Space and Missile Command Battle Lab. Military service also includes 5 years in the field of artillery deployed to a range of hazardous duty locations. As a civilian, he wrote flight software for the Hubble Space Telescope (Wide Field Camera 3) and testing for the International Space Station. As an academic, he lectured for the IRS Space Station Design Workshop, University of New South Wales, and International Space University. He led a research expedition in the high Canadian Arctic and is actively growing the "NewSpace" community co-founding teams such as the Delta-V SpaceHub Accelerator and the University of Sydney space engineering laboratory. He served on the Australian Government “Expert Reference Group” designing their Space Agency and is also active with international think tanks Global Access Partners, NSI, and the Economist, and I'll occasionally provide expertise to Australian News programs. Both through active teaching and through Saber's internship program brought over 250 people into the industry.---Marketing Trends podcast is brought to you by Salesforce. Throughout my working life across four decades, I have had a couple okey-dokey bosses, and only one who was truly superb. All the rest you can meet in much of what I write throughout my blog. If, though, you are like most of humanity, you have had a bevy of bad bosses in your past and present. If you are a boss, chances are that you are a less-than-stellar boss to some degree. Sorry. It's not me, it's statistics, but feel free to defy the stats. Someone has to be above average, and according to the report I linked, women are more likely to be so than men (but not always, so don't rest on that either). Among the myriad effects bad bosses have on their organizations is the tendency of the employees to sort themselves into dysfunctional classes in order to protect themselves and advance their interests. Most of us as employees, whatever our titles, have occupied more than one of these classes in response to changing jobs and circumstances. Perhaps you can locate yourself on this list. Or maybe I missed a category. I'd love to hear from you whatever the case. Feel free to leave a comment. If you are currently a boss, try to see how your employees settle into these classes. Pro Tip: if such categories are easily identifiable, rigid, and widespread, you have some work to do as a boss. If, on the other hand, as a boss you cannot identify these classes among your employees, look again and look again and look again. Self-deception is all too easy. For this analysis I am calling on help from my good friend Bob Dylan and his weird Old Testamenty kids' song, “Man Gave Names to All the Animals.” In it, Dylan sings about “man” (presumably Adam) encountering different creatures in order to assign them an appropriate moniker, albeit in English. I present the verses here out of sequence to suit my purposes, but you can read the complete lyrics here.He saw an animal leavin' a muddy trailReal dirty face and a curly tailHe wasn't too small and he wasn't too big“Ah, think I'll call it a ___”PIGI start with the pig class because they are the most productive and seemingly functional employees in a dysfunctional environment. They are pigs not because they are covered in filth and reek, though that may be, but because as pigs, they toil relentlessly and often mindlessly it seems. This class consists of those who's work ethic itself is a dodge of workplace dysfunction. They put their heads down and rut through the daily muck hoping no one will bother them. When talk of workplace politics breaks out around them, the pig's response ranges from reluctant acknowledgement to contemptuous denial, but they will always take the first opportunity to scramble back to their rutting. Ironically, their very dedication gives cover to their crappy boss, who just takes them for granted.Next animal that he did meetHad wool on his back and hooves on his feetEating grass on a mountainside so steep“Ah, think I'll call it a _____”SHEEP Similar to the pigs are the sheep class. Both groups use denial and avoidance to cope with a dysfunctional workplace, but sheep appear to be allergic to negativity. Some may even deny the obvious and pretend that everything is wonderful, smiling and blithely bleating in the presence of brutal dysfunction. They often display a woolly-headed cognitive dissonance that renders them barely effectual as employees and barely tolerable as colleagues. They would happily follow the flock to slaughter. Nonetheless, their seemingly amiable demeanor, rounded out by their perpetual simper, protects them from the scrutiny of their overseers who tolerate and use but rarely respect the sheep class. A not unlikely outcome is for the sheep to get shorn. He saw an animal that liked to growlBig furry paws and he liked to howlGreat big furry back and furry hair“Ah, think I'll call it a ____”BEARThe bear class can be mighty and fierce seeming, but bears tend to flee uncomfortable situations after their big show of ferocity. Bears would rather run than fight or even just stand there and witness. At a great distance, a bear can easily be mistaken for a sheep and may even, through the magical power of deep denial, transmogrify into one, but as bears they threaten loudly before stealing away from the dysfunction roiling around them. The only time a bear may deign to put up a resistance is when someone threatens something they value, and even then it is mostly just bluster and posturing.A bear will be most excellent at pretending to be valuable and productive but really could just disappear into a cave for months, and no one would notice. He saw an animal that liked to snortHorns on his head and they weren't too shortIt looked like there wasn't nothin' that he couldn't pull“Ah, think I'll call it a ____”BULLPity the bull class. Workplace bulls may be few in number, but they are far from elite. These are the employees who save every email, take notes to memorialize meetings, and keep their resume updated in order to protect themselves although at times they may foolishly put themselves at risk to protect others. Bulls fancy themselves the most clear-eyed denizens of the workplace, able to see through the BS, but in reality their depth perception can be quite limited.A bull's productivity will vary, but they can be highly effective when they are devoted to their work. Unlike pigs, though, they frequently charge up their own paths to progress, which adds another source of friction.Of all the workplace fauna, the bull is the most likely to get roasted. He saw an animal as smooth as glass Slithering his way through the grass Saw him disappear by a tree near a lakeSSSSSSThe snake class is ubiquitous in the dysfunctional workplace. Every sucky boss fosters the flourishing of at least one scurrilous, slithering snake. This small and supercilious class constitutes the collaborationists. Snakes flick their tongues to lick up to the boss or do so by selling out those who may menace or are simply bothersome. They use sycophancy, self-praise, snitching, and slander to please the boss. The most insidious snakes will slither into a singular intimacy with their simpleminded boss so as to foster a constrictive codependency.Snakes may be constructive employees but usually in extremely deleterious ways. Still, they almost always assert their status as the hardest-slaving, most indispensable employees, but their results never match their self-hype. If you run across a self-sainted and supercilious workplace martyr, you are usually in the presence of a snake. In return for the snake's insidious service, the boss provides them with outsized license and praise. Snakes, in contrast, harbor a secret scorn for the boss, hissing behind their back and ready to strike in every direction. As I mentioned before, employees sort themselves in order to protect their position or advance their interests in the face of rank dysfunction. Needless to say, though, all this bestial sorting and behavior distracts from and severely limits productivity and employee wellbeing. Fortunately there is a solution, a way of eliminating these categories from your work life and preventing them from ever plaguing your workplace again. It is remarkably simple, elegant even, in its economy. If you are a boss, be a better boss.If you are the victim of a bad boss, one way or another, get a good boss. Better yet, become your own boss. In this episode: We meet Jason Held, CEO of Saber Astronautics, a mission control operations software and services company, with locations in Sydney, Australia, and Boulder, Colorado, USA. Prior to founding Saber, Jason was a Major in the U.S. Army's USSTRATCOM (Space Command) during which time he served as an active-duty engineer at Army Space and Missile Command Battle Lab. Later, as a civilian, he wrote flight software for the Hubble Space Telescope and testing for the International Space Station. He has lectured for the IRS Space Station Design Workshop, the University of New South Wales, and the International Space University. He also led a research expedition in the high Canadian Arctic, and he has served on the Australian government's Expert Reference Group designing their space agency. In this conversation Jason explains how his passion for space began in childhood, yet he felt space jobs were inaccessible due to his academic struggles. He details how he believes that the perceived hurdles to space jobs can be overcome to achieve the democratization of space. He also discusses the capabilities of Saber's PIGI satellite tracking software, and how Saber partnered with an Australian craft brewery to create a recipe and drinking vessel that allows beer to be consumed in space. In describing his feelings about the democratization of space, Jason says, “Space is something that anybody can do. You know, if someone like myself, with the history I had on the academic side can pull into it, I think anybody can... So, the more exposure that you have to it at a young age, the more you’re going to be ready for the markets that are going to come up, and the space jobs that are going to come up in 10 to 20 years’ time.” To learn more about Saber Astronautics, visit saberastro.com. 2015 En Mai, fais ce qu'il te plaît French Proverb meaning “In May, do what pleases you”… Where I use the orphans on my hard drive. Claude Nougaro, Phil Collins, Eric Clapton, Grace Jones doing Edith Piaf, a Rolling Stones sampled cover, a twisted take of EBTG’s and lo and behold a 2015 remix of Neil Young/Nicolette Larson’s Lotta Love.. How is that for eclectic? Every year at about the time of my Taurean birthday, I try to put together a playlist of odd tunes, jams that never get a chance to make it to a set due to the filtering process I use. Either they are not quite five stars, do not fit into any strict genres or are jams I feel I may like but depart from a true house format. But it is that time of the year again and whilst I was on an extended trip to China and before embarking on a progressive house new journey, I propose you the 2015 version of “En Mai, fais ce qu'il te plaît”. It is eclectic, starting with a French flavour with the late Claude Nougaro, an old French jazz/rock artist, from my hometown of Toulouse, following is a little medley of Grace Jones using the current “Frenchie Thing” tune as a recall, before jumping into no less than Phil Collins and Eric Clapton.. All this with a definite House flavour. The set is different and might put off some listeners but once again remember: ”In May, do what pleases you”.   Playlist: 2014 Nougayork (Dimitri from Paris Full Vocal Remix vs Night Dubbin’ in 2014). Claude Nougaro 2015 The Frenchie Thing [Xtian Paroles Edit]. Reboot         2012 La Vie en Rose (djGiel's la Vie Remix). Grace Jones     2014 Call Me Maybe (OtherSoul Remix). Carly Rae Jepsen 2012 I Cannot Believe It's True. (MikenandTess Booty Funk Edit). Phil Collins 2014 Hey, Hey (OtherSoul Illegal Remix). Dennis Ferrer 2012 Here Comes Every day (MikeandTess Mash up ). Steven Stone feat. Kim English            2012 It’s Like That (Original Mix). Professor X        2012 Miss You (Andy & Dave Club Mix). Disco Enemy feat. Danny Losito, The Rolling Stones 2009 Needin U (DJ Wady Ibiza Mix). Mark Brown, Adam Shaw, The Face 2008 Higher and Higher (2008 Club Mix). Milk & Sugar        2010 Just Won't Do (Pirupa & Pigi Remix). Analog People In A Digital World, Tim Deluxe, Sam Obernik, Pirupa, Pigi        2013 Cocaine (iLicris Remix). Eric Clapton               2015 Wrong (Jolyon Petch Club Mix). eSQUIRE & PETCH, Jolyon Petch, Esquire 2013 The Music Sounds Better With You (Carl Hanaghan Remix). Speedboats, Big Explosions 2015 Lotta Love (Alaia Gallo Remix) .Vintage Lounge Orchestra 2014 Let the Music Play (Neo funk Mix). Rob Hayes Private Collection   Highlights:   This set is different but I do not infer it is particularly good. I sometimes find it highly entertaining to listen to classics being “housified”… This being said, do not miss the Dimitri from Paris take on Claude Nougaro’s “Nougayork”! Claude Nougaro was a immensely talent French jazz/rock artist and poet from my hometown of Toulouse. I remember as a student seeing him getting wasted in bars on a daily basis. On day he went to NY and and bluffed the local studio talent royalty by sitting down in the recording room, jammin’ with them and within 30 days release the perfect album. It is a pity that most of you may not understand French because the lyrics are both an ode and a wink to America, from someone who theoretically would have had his musical roots there but was so far removed from the Yankee culture. Finally Claude Nougaro wrote the most beautiful song on his/my hometown “Toulouse”.. I am providing the link down-below. The lyrics are poetry of the highest order and I can’t hear this song without a massive homesick feeling.. Reboot’s Frenchie Thing.. As soon as I heard the track, I recognized the sample and knew that I would try to present alongside the original. It took me a while to find a remix of Grace Jones’ classic that would marry well. Found it on SoundCloud, impressive work. The original Grace Jones cover of Piaf “La Vie en Rose” will remain a house classic for times to come. Kudos to Reboot to have had a play with it. Phil Collins.. How lame as it may be, there are two or three Collins’ albums I love. The sound, the production, the funk, right or wrong I will it is analogue house music without the label… “Miss You”.. Had to have a Rolling Stones in there.. The remix is very allusive but the basic swagger of the original tune is there. “Needin’ U” and “Higher & Higher”: I went to see David Morales last month.. Loved it and thought I would re-listen to his classics.. Immense artist and great DJ. I felt he was sticking a bit too much to one format ( 1 Studio 54 track, 1 soulful, 1 semi-tech, 1 sexy and back to Studio 54 to close the loop). It worked perfectly at the start but got a bit tedious. But it was perfectly executed. I think what through me out was when he dropped the second Gloria Gaynor in one hour. “Just Won’t Do”, a remix Tim Deluxe classic, which will take the old clubbers who follow back a decade at least.. Clapton’s “Cocaine”… A friend of mine Lisa, at every party I play, once she is fired up has always the same request “Christian, please drop Cocaine”. Be it in the middle of a soulful set, trance, the request is always there.. Well, Lisa I have now not one but two usable remix of Cocaine, which I will gladly drop in order for you to toe that narrow line.. The eSQUIRE & PETCH remix of EBTG’s “Wrong”.. I love EBTG and hearing a new jackin’ remix of “Wrong” was a treat I could not pass. “Lotta Love”.. I remember my brother playing the original from Neil Young and Nicolette Larson.. Had to put that one in. Realizing at this stage that I could have put a Beatles tu8ne to close the loop… Well it will have to come next year, for the next session of “En Mai, fais ce qu'il te plaît”. Just about to embark in a long progressive series.. I will see you on the other side. Already mixed a couple, therefore the wait will not be too long.   Hope you enjoy this one. Soory I could not fit it into a CD length format by I was O/S and/or on a plane whilst mixing it..   A bientôt   Xtian
