This week, in our annual summer bonus episode, we're joined once again by Mr. Hale "Satan" Appleman, of stage, screen, "The Magicians," "American Horror Story," Teeth, and more. Our assignment: Longlegs, Osgood Perkins' insidiously stylish brain-twister featuring off-the-hook performances by Maika Monroe, Alicia Witt, and a barely recognizable Nicolas Cage. Also along for the fun, in the next installment of our "Campus Radio" segment, is Mr. Marcus Dunstan, director of the new film #AMFAD All My Friends Are Dead. Intro, Math Club & Debate Society, Campus Radio, To Sir With Love (spoiler-free): 00:00-29:04Honor Roll and Detention (spoiler-heavy): 29:05-1:06:40Superlatives (spoiler-heavier): 1:06:41-1:21:39 Screenplay/Direction Osgood PerkinsFeaturing Nicolas Cage, Michelle Choi-Lee, Maika Monroe, Kiernan Shipka, Blair Underwood, Alicia Witt Hale Appleman is perhaps best known for playing Eliot in “The Magicians,” currently streaming on Netflix, and Tobey in the Sundance horror comedy Teeth. Genre fans have seen him in the eleventh season of “American Horror Story,” and he's appeared in the NBC series “Smash,” AppleTV's “Truth Be Told,” and in the films Beautiful Ohio, Pedro, and Private Romeo. He is also an accomplished stage actor whose credits include the Roundabout Theatre Company, ART, the Berkshire Theater Festival, and The Old Globe. Hale can be heard on the L.A. Theatre Works recording of Sam Shepard's Buried Child. Marcus Dunstan's screenwriting with his partner, Patrick Melton, include such horror films as Feast 1-3, Saw IV-V-VI and Saw 3D The Final Chapter, Pirahna, Pacific Rim, God Of War, Final Destination 6, and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. #AMFAD All My Friends Are Dead marks Dunstan's sixth feature as a director. Dunstan's previous directing credits include The Collector, The Collection, The Neighbor, Blumhouse's Pilgrim, and 2022's Blumhouse Presents: Unhuman. He is a producer of The Candidate, and executive producer of 2022's horror-thriller Take Back the Night. Fall 2023 saw the release of the Dunstan-directed, Clio Award-winning Jack In The Box horror short film Feeding Time. Currently, Dunstan and Melton are collaborating on Saw XI for Director Kevin Greutert and Lionsgate, an animated take on Gris Grimley's Frankenstein, as well as the horror film Escape: Halloween with Live Nation and Insomniac. This fall, Dunstan returns behind the camera for production of the horror-thriller film Death Valley, co-written by Melton and Dunstan. Our theme music is by Edward Elgar and Sir Cubworth. Music from Longlegs by Elvis Perkins. For more information on this film, writing by your hosts (on our blog), and other assorted bric-a-brac, visit our website, scareupod.com. James Cameron's sci-fi time travel masterpiece is also an iconic monster movie for horror fans. Listen to us discuss the OG Terminator. Synopsis The Terminator is about a machine that terminates. But it's not bugs like you'd think, it's people. But not people now in the future from when the Terminator is from, but from the present in the past. It kills present day people from the past, by traveling from the future present. Also sent from the now future is Kyle Reece, who needs to save his bosses mom from the Terminator and also generally just be a bummer. Review of The Terminator The Terminator as a film is much like it's titular monster. Slick, focused, and effective. The tone is bleak, and unlike other time travel movies, is stripped of all humor inherent the premise. The script is tight and communicates that the future is a nightmare, and needs to be stopped at all cost. Arnold Schwartzenegger gets the role that further pushes him into stardom with his iconic lines like “I'll be back”,and “Hey, I'm Terminating here!” James Cameron, in his second feature film, second only to Pirahna 2, creates a fully realized sci-fi masterpiece. The special effects of the Stan Winston Studio and the music of the Brad Fiedel augment what is really just a low budget slasher movie. The Terminator operated off of a budget of only 6.5 mil. Compare that to The Ice Pirates that came out the same year, that had a budget of 9 million, which was also considered low. Score 10/10

Greetings, and welcome back to Horror Business! We have got one creepy crawly episode in store you guys. As always thank you for listening and we hope you enjoy the episode! First and foremost we want to give a shoutout to our sponsors over at Lehigh Valley Apparel Creations, the premiere screenprinting company of the Lehigh Valley. Chris Reject and his merry band of miscreants are ready to work with you to bring to life your vision of a tshirt for your business, band, project, or whatever else it is you need represented by a shirt, sweater, pin, or coozy. Head on over to www.xlvacx.com to check them out. Thanks! This episode we are CONCLUDING our multi-episode series on the concept of animal horror, with 1988’s Slugs and 1972’s Frogs We begin by talking about what horror related things we had done lately. Liam talks about catching Lady .45 at the Mahoning Drive In’s Lethal Ladies event and watching Cooties. Justin discusses his experiences at Monster Mania Con in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Woo! Up first we talk about 1988’s Slugs. We open up by talking about the lunacy that is the fact that this is based on a novel. We give a basic outline of the film. We discuss the difficulty in making the titular animals threatening and how the film oftentimes fails to believably do so. We talk about the strange language barrier often found in films in the English language written by people who do not consider English their primary language. We talk about the surprising effectiveness of some of the films special effects and how the ending suffers from the same problem that Pirahna suffered from. The pointlessness of the near rape that occurs towards the end is examined in depth. Next is 1972’s Frogs. We discuss this movie possibly being the quintessential ‘when animals attack’ film. We talk about the variety of animals attacking people in the film that aren’t frogs, and how the island the film takes place on harbors an insane variety of wildlife. The social/racial/economic implications of the film are dissected in depth i.e. how the film portrays capitalism and offers a rather bleak version of a capitalist view on the environment. The films depiction of a wealthy white family being a far more accurate representation of the voting base for Trump is examined. The fx and over quality of the film are discussed, as is Sam Elliott’s lack of a mustache. We end by talking about Victor Salva, the convicted pedophile who is known for creating the Jeepers Creepers franchise and whose name has resurfaced with the upcoming release of Jeepers Creepers 3. Do not support Victor Salva, and if you want to watch some fun cheesy horror films, instead of going to see Jeepers Creepers 3, just watch these movies. Or see It twice. Or do literally anything other than support Victor Salva. As always thanks to everyone and anyone who checked this episode out, or shared a tweet/shared a post on FB/gave us love by recommending us to someone. We love you forever for listening. Any questions, comments, suggestions for movies and guests, or if you yourself want to join us for a movie viewing or even an episode, can be sent to thehorrorbiz@gmail.com.
