He was marked for pain and suffering by an internet douchebag. He's fought and bled to build his business, only to watch it cough and die in his arms. But through all that, Joe Ploof is still a believer. He still wants to make beer and sell it to people. He scraped his shit together and 8 months after his closure he reopened as a contract brewery. He shares how he restructured his distribution footprint, reworked his recipes and even hired one of those fancy social media people. In this episode he shares why he did it and why he believes he's on the pathway to purpose in his life. It's too early to tell if he'll be more or less profitable than the tired old brick and mortar brewery model. But by the end of my time with Joe I found myself wanting to believe. He's a great guy who makes great beer and I appreciate the Hell out of everything he shared with us. The hills were on fire. It was the spring of 1877, windy and dry. In West Jay, Vermont, Mitchell Ploof was at work in his clearing when he smelled smoke and heard a rustling in the undergrowth. Rabbits. They poured out of the forest, “whole droves” of them running, and there were other animals too, squirrels and chipmunks. The fire followed, ten minutes behind.

We couldn’t be more excited to bring in Nottingham Cellars Director of Winemaking, Craig Ploof. We created this show to highlight the many talented people in the Livermore Valley, but we didn’t want it all about NC. The show wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t give Craig a listen. Craig cut his teeth in the LV wine industry as a part time tasting room associate at Steven Kent Winery. This is where he gained his passion and sparked what would ultimately become a complete career change.  Craig’s hunger for knowledge and experience eventually got him some time helping Steven Mirrasou and Tom Stutz in blending and production. After a few years helping on the side, he quit his job to become Assistant Winemaker for SK and La Rochelle. After a few years he went over to Nottingham Cellars to continue his growth in the industry.  Craig is a talented winemaker and is passionate about seeing the region get the credit it deserves. His efforts at NC have helped them achieve new heights in quality and the best is yet to come!
