Music journalist Martin Popoff provides an intimate and scholarly look into the life and times of Iron Maiden. From their humble beginnings in the dingy clubs of East London to headlining arenas and festivals worldwide, the band's story is one of resilience, creativity, and unrelenting dedication to remaining prolific and vital in the present day. Dive deep into their music, stage performances, and the iconic figure of Eddie, their undead mascot. Readers will discover the stories behind all their albums-such as Killers, The Number of the Beast, and Powerslave, through to their most recent, Senjutsu (and all solo releases)-as well as the inspiring creative and commercial resurgence that the band experienced beginning with the return of Bruce Dickinson to the fold in 1999. Anchored by the author's 1995-2024 interviews with all band members, this book is framed most pertinently as an analysis of each Iron Maiden album, one per chapter, every song discussed musically and at the literary end, along with the album covers and the finer points of the recording process. All told, Hallowed by Their Name is the most voluminous and career-spanning reference-level book on Iron Maiden ever written. And with an explosion of photographic images as well, it's sure to have fans scurrying back to the sacred texts-Iron Maiden's beloved records-for additional and enriching reconsiderations of the many essential metal songs this band has given us over the years. This is a must-read for any music enthusiast, a tribute to the indomitable spirit of Iron Maiden, and a celebration of the band's enduring six-decade legacy in the realm of heavy metal. ** Through Time: Iron Maiden's Last 50 Years** Iron Maiden, one of the most iconic bands in heavy metal history, has had a remarkable journey over the last five decades. Formed in 1975 by bassist Steve Harris in London, the band quickly rose to prominence, becoming a cornerstone of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) movement. The Rise to Fame (1975-1980) Iron Maiden's self-titled debut album was released in 1980, showcasing a raw energy that captivated fans. Their distinct sound, characterized by intricate guitar melodies and powerful vocals, garnered critical acclaim. The release of "Killers" (1981) and the landmark album "The Number of the Beast" (1982) solidified their place in rock history, introducing classic tracks like “Hallowed Be Thy Name” and “Run to the Hills.” The Iconic 80s and 90s Throughout the 1980s, Iron Maiden continued to release successful albums, including "Piece of Mind" (1983), "Powerslave" (1984), and "Somewhere in Time" (1986). Their elaborate live shows featured stunning pyrotechnics and their legendary mascot, Eddie, quickly becoming synonymous with the band's identity. The 1990s brought challenges, including lineup changes and a more experimental sound. However, albums like "Brave New World" (2000) saw the return of lead singer Bruce Dickinson and marked a revival of their classic sound. The New Millennium and Beyond Entering the 21st century, Iron Maiden embraced evolving music technologies and fan engagement, notably through their extensive world tours and innovative use of social media. Albums like "A Matter of Life and Death" (2006) and "The Book of Souls" (2015) showcased their ability to evolve while staying true to their roots. The band also ventured into other media, including video games and documentaries, further cementing their legacy. Legacy and Influence As of 2024, Iron Maiden remains a powerful force in the music world, continuing to sell out arenas and connect with fans across generations. Their dedication to their craft and unwavering passion for heavy metal have inspired countless bands and artists worldwide. As they gear up for new projects and tours, fans eagerly anticipate what the next chapter holds for this legendary band. In conclusion, Iron Maiden's last 50 years is a testament to their resilience, creativity, and enduring influence, a true saga of the evolution of heavy metal music.

After a grueling 100+ date tour to support their Piece Of Mind album, no one would blame the boys in Iron Maiden for taking some well deserved time off. Instead, after 3 weeks off they went back to start writing and rehearsing for their next album, Powerslave, which would prove to be HUGELY important in breaking them in the US, South America and all around the world. Thanks to having the same lineup as the last album for the first time and a work ethic driven by Iron Maiden's eternal leader Steve Harris, the boys produced an album with the imagery and songs that would propel them to global superstardom. Derek Riggs artwork was at its finest for the Egyptian themed cover and would also be the backdrop of the incredible stage setup of one of the most epic tours ever. On almost 200 dates in 11 months covering 28 countries including going behind the Iron Curtain, the tour nearly broke every member of the band at some point. However, with radio friendly hits like Aces High and 2 Minutes 2 Midnight, Maiden got on the UK charts. But it was their proggy epics like the title track and Rime Of The Ancient Mariner that solidified IM as a unique act in the heavy metal world. Plus, Maiden would record their timeless live album and home video Live After Death at the Long Beach Arena in California on this tour which introduced millions to the band around the world. As it turns 40, The Wolf & Action Jackson go track x track and relive some fond memories from Powerslave. Hear that? There goes the siren that warns of the air raid – or maybe that's just Bruce Dickinson's voice. This week, Mike continues his quest to make Discord & Rhyme more metal with the album Powerslave by Iron Maiden. In the popular consciousness, Maiden are known for their goofy album covers and hits like “Bring Your Daughter … to the Slaughter.” But if you dig just a little deeper, they were vanguards of the new wave of British heavy metal, with a seven-album run in the ‘80s that ranks among the greatest winning streaks of the album era, metal or otherwise. Powerslave is arguably their peak, boasting some of their greatest compositions and brainiest lyrics, with subjects running the gamut from The Prisoner to the military-industrial complex to the dawn of British Romanticism. But most importantly, it rocks, and Mike has invited Phil, John, and Rich to discuss eight amazing songs that will put you at a losfer words.Cohosts: Mike DeFabio, Phil Maddox, John McFerrin, Rich BunnellComplete show notes: https://discordpod.com/listen/137-iron-maiden-powerslave-1984Discord & Rhyme's merch store: http://tee.pub/lic/discordpodSupport the podcast! https://www.patreon.com/discordpod

El álbum contenía canciones clásicas como "Phantom of the Opera" y "Running Free". En 1982, el tercer álbum, "The Number of the Beast", catapultó a Iron Maiden a la fama internacional. El álbum incluía éxitos como "Run to the Hills" y la canción principal, "The Number of the Beast". En 1999, Bruce Dickinson y Adrian Smith regresaron a Iron Maiden, y la banda lanzó álbumes exitosos como "Brave New World" (2000) y "Dance of Death" (2003). Álbumes posteriores incluyen "The Final Frontier" (2010), "The Book of Souls" (2015) y "Senjutsu" (2021).
September 29, 1986: By this point in time, nearly 2 years had passed since the release of Powerslave and nearly a year had passed since Live After Death was released, commemorating the World Slavery Tour of 1984-1985 that cemented IRON MAIDEN as one of the most legendary bands in all of metal. And just like with any other advancements forward impacting time and technology, SOMEWHERE IN TIME, their 6th studio album (and the first to include, wait for it: guitar synths) proved to be a quantum leap forward into the future sound of their brand of progressive metal, with enough ambiance and atmosphere to give the album a sound that feels very futuristic and modern, yet also sounds perfectly at home in 1986. Always remember to take an “insurance pee” before engaging in any time travel activities and be sure to “slow down” and take a moment to “pump your own gravy” (even if you felt “barely bothered” to do so at the time) and JOIN US as we dive into one of the most “timeless” albums in Maiden's history, complete with guitar synthesizers and more multi-layered guitar harmonies than you could shake an interdimensional scepter at as we dive into the wormhole of metal and travel elsewhere (and elsewhen) with IRON MAIDEN, SOMEWHERE IN TIME. On this week's edition, Blev and Sam get in to the weeds of the songs on Powerslave and ask the big questions, like does an album really need two songs about sword-fighting? (Spoiler: no)
Alright, now we're getting to the good stuff. Back to the albums proper. This week, Blev and Sam delve in to the background behind one of Maiden's most iconic albums, Powerslave.
On this episode, we talk about some metal news, discuss our spotlight album, Powerslave by Iron Maiden, and then get into our picks for the Top 6 Colorfully Titled Songs.
IRON MAIDEN's 3rd release with Bruce Dickinson (and 5th release overall), POWERSLAVE, might very well have been the most progressive heavy metal album of 1984. In fact, it is easily the most progressive metal album of the early Dickinson era, with ½ the songs from this album being included on their 1985 “World Slavery Tour” concert souvenir, Live After Death. It's time to find “the emergency lane before the off ramp” and discover which “really weird question” might be “good for you!” and prompt you to stop yelling at “mumble rapping 10-year-olds” while playing Call of Duty. Metal Blade Records founder Brian Slagel and Merlin Alderslade from Metal Hammer return to rank Iron Maiden opening songs! They've got their Top 10 selected and count them down in a spirited debate that's filled with great trivia about songwriting, recording, and concerts. Do any songs from the Blaze Bayley era make the cut? And how did the return of Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith affect their respective lists? Where do you think songs like “Invade,” “Aces High,” “The Number Of The Beast,” “Piece of Mind,” and “Powerslave” rank? They guys also discuss Maiden live shows and set lists, and make some predictions about what might be included in Maiden's upcoming “The Future Past Tour.” Thank you for supporting our sponsors!FanDuel: download the FanDuel app & use promo code JERICHO to get up a “No Sweat First Bet” up to $1,000 dollars.Urban Stems: Go to https://urbanstems.com/ and use promo code JERICHO for 15% off.PajamaGram: Go to https://www.pajamagram.com/ and use promo code NUDE for 25% off and FREE gift wrappingPandora: Find a gift as unique as your love! This week we're upping the irons as we pick The Best & Worst of 80's Iron Maiden! Joining us for this talk is Chris Dunnett of Powerslave (The Iron Maiden Experience). Chris has been a die-hard Iron Maiden fan since the early days. His fandom has led him on a cool path that includes not only his great tribute band but two opportunities to actually appear on stage with Iron Maiden themselves! In this episode, we're focusing on the formative years of the band. We start with the two Paul Di'Anno-fronted albums Iron Maiden (1980) and Killers (1981). From there, we go over the Bruce Dickinson era including Number of the Beast (1982), Piece of Mind (1983), Powerslave (1984), Somewhere in Time (1986), and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (1988). For each of these albums, we'll share our thoughts and memories on them and pick what we think are the best and worst tracks. Will we agree? Will we disagree and start yelling at each other? Will our picks infuriate you? You'll have to listen to find out!We also cover the upcoming Powerslave/Rock United show taking place this weekend at Bowies in Nashville. It's gonna be a great night of rock and metal music. What are YOUR favorite/least favorite tracks from the 80's Iron Maiden albums? List your choices in the comments below! We hope you enjoy The Best & Worst of 80's Iron Maiden and SHARE with a friend!Decibel Geek is a proud member of the Pantheon Podcasts family.Contact Us!Rate, Review, and Subscribe in iTunesJoin the Facebook Fan PageFollow on TwitterFollow on InstagramE-mail UsSubscribe to our Youtube channel!Support Us!Buy a T-Shirt!Donate to the show!Stream Us!Stitcher RadioSpreakerTuneInBecome a VIP Subscriber!Click HERE for more info!Comment BelowDirect Download
