Last week started well for the Fire, with a dominant 4-1 win on the road against Charlotte FC powered by two goals and an assist for Brian Gutierrez. It ended Sunday with a 1-0 lead that turned into a 3-1 loss to NYCFC at Yankee Stadium in large part due to Gutierrez elbowing an opponent in the face and being sent off. This will be the second time he's been suspended this season, and by the end of the suspension he will have missed seven matches due to either suspension, injury or national team duty. Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse.Atlanta United scored first, but lost control of the match with Nashville afterwards. Following the goal, Nashville outshot Atlanta 10-2 and had 70% possession. They eventually found an equalizer and the match finished in an unfulfilling 1-1 draw. Atlanta is back in action next Saturday in Chicago against the Fire, who will be missing their goalkeeper Chris Brady following his red card in the first half of the Fire's 0-0 draw with Orlando.LA Galaxy lost last night in Kansas City 1-0 even though they didn't concede a shot, the goal was an own goal in the 13th minute. The Galaxy also lost both of their star wingers, Joseph Paintsil and Gabriel Pec, due to injury. Other MLS highlights of note include Vancouver going unbeaten in 10 games after a 2-1 win over RSL, Miami bouncing back from two home losses with a win over Red Bulls, and New England keeping their hot streak going since putting Carles Gil into a free role in their 3-5-2 shape.Parity is alive and well in the NWSL as the top 8 teams are separated by 4 points. Kansas City and Orlando are tied for the top spot with 15 points so far in the season.A verdict is expected tomorrow by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in the Club Leon case against FIFA over their spot in the Club World Cup. If FIFA's ruling is upheld, then we'll see the playoff game between LAFC and Club America go ahead. The winner of that would start the tournament here in Atlanta against Chelsea on June 16. Harry Kane has finally won a trophy after almost 700 games as a pro for club and country. Of course it wasn't straightforward... Bayern drew to RB Leipzig 3-3 on a late goal from the opposition and needed Leverkusen to slip up in their game later in the day, which ended 2-2 giving Bayern the title. Two big promotions, Pisa in Italy and Paris FC in France. Pisa hasn't been in Serie A since 1991 while Paris FC hasn't played in Ligue 1 for 46 years. Nothing beats Burnley's celebrations for getting back to the Premier League, they had Natasha Bedingfield on hand to sing the unofficial promotion anthem for them "Unwritten". She sang it for the fans at Turf Moor and the squad sang it with her in the locker room.Playoffs are set in Mexico and Argentina, they'll start next weekend. Champions League in Europe returns this week with Barcelona and Inter hopeful on injury returns while PSG and Arsenal try to shake off league losses over the weekend.More Espresso Tuesday on the SDH Network, presented by Oglethorpe University.

Episode 67: Leaders Start with Why Questions to Ponder:  Have you ever been asked to do something by a leader and not fully understood why?  Have you, as a leader, ever asked your team to do something without explaining the task's true purpose? 1. Leaders Start with "Why" BOOK: Start with Why, by Simon Sinek  Knowing the vision and direction as a leader is paramount. BOOK: Leadership Lessons from the Age of Fighting Sail, by Chris Brady Leaders who possesses a clear and unwavering belief in their vision become a beacon of inspiration for their team.  You need to know where you are headed and why it matters.  This fosters a  sense of authenticity and credibility that is inherently persuasive.  Team members are naturally drawn to leaders who can articulate What How Why  BOOK: StrengthsFinder 2.0, Gallup and Tom Rath A leader's ability to get others to believe in and follow her isn't solely dependent on the vision itself, but also on their ability to effectively communicate and share it.  A leader must convey the "why" in a way that resonates with her team.listening,  understanding,  and empathizing  A leader's consistent actions, integrity, and accountability play a pivotal role in earning and maintaining the trust and respect of their team.  2. Leaders Pinpoint Essentials Effective leadership involves several crucial elements. resilience in the face of failure.  “Major on the majors and minor on the minors.”  Focus on the big picture. Transparent communication is key.  QUESTION: Are you a communicative person, whether it is with your family at home or with those at work?  QUESTION: What is it that I can do, that nobody else can do all the time?  Your people want to do what they are good at. Get out of their way and let them do it.  Leaders Empower with Purpose Empower through a clear sense of purpose. By explaining the "why" behind actions and decisions, leaders encourage their teams to take ownership of their responsibilities.  Work during the day to make a living. Work during the night to make a life.  If you are not happy where you work, work hard enough to earn your way out.  MO's Final Thoughts If you want people to follow you, you need to know why you are doing what you are doing. You need to give your people the reason to follow you. Don't ever be upset if someone isn't following you. There are no bad teams, only bad leaders. You need to be willing to put the work in. People want to follow someone who is passionate and knows what they are doing. Get out there, work hard enough and find your why. Live in the why! Hey, Fire fans! The Chicago Fire are coming off a mid-week match at BMO Field, and unfortunately are coming off another draw. While a draw at Eastern Conference power New England may have felt like progress, the draw against Toronto FC certainly felt like a loss. The Fire changed up their formation, moved players around (Koutsias to the wing? Never again!) and would have ended up with a much worse result if not for the likes of goalkeepers Chris Brady and Spencer Richey. It looked like the Fire were playing for a draw in the second half and already thinking about their next US Open Cup match. But they can't overlook FC Cincinnati! The Men in Red travel to the Queen City (yes, another city with that nickname) to take on the top team in Major League Soccer right now. I don't think Brandon Vazquez will miss like he did in the first meeting between these squads, and Lucho Acosta certainly won't be a late sub for the orange and blue. This could be an ugly game for the Fire, who will have to rely on turnovers and quick counter-attacks if they are to have any chance at a result. Twitter - Facebook - Spotify - YouTube
