Ondo InsurTech PLC CEO Craig Foster talked with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the company's continued expansion in the US, following the latest agreement with Privilege Underwriters Reciprocal Exchange (PURE). The high-net-worth insurer has expanded its use of Ondo's LeakBot technology beyond its pilot in New York into six more states—Indiana, North Carolina, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Washington. Foster explained that PURE initially wanted to test the company's customer service capabilities, given its clientele of affluent homeowners. He noted that Ondo has already proven its ability to meet high standards, having worked with UK-based high-net-worth insurers such as Hiscox. Discussing the broader US expansion, Foster highlighted that this marks the latest partnership to scale up since Nationwide expanded LeakBot into 16 states. Ondo follows a state-by-state expansion model, securing lead partners in each new region before adding more insurers to drive further adoption. Looking ahead, Foster will travel to Tennessee for a key industry think tank, a strategy inspired by Whisker Labs' success in growing its own home safety technology across the US. Foster emphasized that the company faces no direct competition in a $17 billion market, presenting a major opportunity for growth.  Customer Mindset and Priorities in 2025 (01:47)The current climate of geopolitical and economic uncertainty is driving the need for speed and agility when delivering value to customers. Google Cloud customer projects that do just that include improving logistics at UPS, enhancing search functionality, and boosting customer service at Hanesbrands and Macy's. "Uncertainty means the great CEOs want action," Kurian says. "You control the controllable, and you do that by improving speed in your organization." Kurian also discusses significant AI integrations, such as Google Cloud's collaboration with Samsung on its phones and Snap's in-app coach, which are shaping the future of customer interaction.Cloud and AI as a Continuum (04:08)Kurian explains that cloud services actually simplify the deployment and management of AI because they provide models and accelerators as services, reducing the complexity of managing AI systems. In turn, AI helps to streamline cloud services by enabling faster and more efficient application development. Customer examples of how cloud and AI work together to deliver innovative offerings can be found in AI-driven risk calculations at Hiscox, tailored advertising for Puma and Radisson, and content discovery for Warner Brothers Discovery.AI's Impact on Business and Productivity (07:48)AI is no longer confined to IT departments but is now influencing a wide range of business functions. It's improving productivity by streamlining operations, such as facilitating live patient handoffs at hospitals. "Allowing the nurses to do live handoff to another nurse means more time at the bedside. It means more productivity."AI is also enhancing product development by enabling customers to articulate complex needs, which AI can then translate into tailored recommendations. Furthermore, AI's role in call center automation is improving efficiency by handling high volumes of customer inquiries and providing superior service.Customer Service and AI Integration (13:01)Google Cloud's approach to integrating AI with customer service helps businesses create more cohesive and efficient customer experiences by improving reach, understanding, and interactions across multiple channels. Kurian discusses innovations such as the self-service retail search at InterContinental Hotels and digital concierge services for Orange. AI agents manage customer queries, upsell products, and improve service efficiency in call centers.Cost Optimization and Efficiency in AI (15:52)There are several ways in which Google Cloud is addressing the challenges of AI tool affordability. Kurian outlines initiatives aimed at improving the efficiency of AI, such as new software capabilities and optimizations to AI models. In the last six months, Google Cloud has significantly reduced costs, with model costs dropping by more than 10 times. Additionally, improvements in latency and the reduction of AI response iterations are also helping to make AI more efficient and cost-effective.Customer Acknowledgment (18:46)In closing, Kurian expresses his gratitude to Google Cloud's customers, partners, and all those who have supported the company's journey. "To every customer, every partner, everyone who gave us a shot, you were the reason that all of our people worked so hard. Thank you."

What if the way we approach change is broken? Would you try something new?  Or stick to what you know? In this episode of Leveraging Thought Leadership, host Peter Winick sits down with Heather Hiscox, founder and CEO of Pause for Change and author of No More Status Quo: A Proven Framework to Change the Way We Change the World. Heather shares her journey of transforming frustration into a groundbreaking approach that's helping changemakers address tough challenges in the nonprofit, government, and philanthropic sectors. Heather's insights began with a simple yet powerful question: "Why aren't we working differently?" Years of seeing wasted efforts and weak results in the social sector pushed her to experiment. The result? The Pause framework—a tool for disrupting the status quo and creating meaningful impact. Her approach focuses on relationships, active listening, and rapid iteration, all built on a foundation of empathy and learning. Heather discusses how entrepreneurs often miss key listening skills, and how fear of "not being ready" keeps leaders from publishing ideas and moving forward. Instead, she encourages taking risks, learning in real-time, and embracing new methods to achieve different outcomes. Her clients—nonprofits, local governments, and philanthropic organizations—typically approach her for one of two reasons: something's broken, or they're unsure what's possible next. Heather uses her framework to guide them through the uncertainties, asking the right questions and driving real change. When it comes to marketing, Heather's strategy is driven by relationships and word of mouth. She's not just waiting for clients to find her—she's actively engaging them through LinkedIn, her online show The Possibility Project, and by knowing when to walk away from those who aren't ready to embrace her message. Heather's work is a call to action for leaders ready to stop settling for the status quo and start making the impact they've always envisioned. Three Key Takeaways: • Embrace new methods to create change: Heather emphasizes that traditional approaches in the social sector often fall short. To make real impact, leaders must ask different questions and take risks with new methods, like her Pause framework. • Relationships and listening are essential: Success hinges on building strong relationships and honing active listening skills. Whether in business or social change, empathetic listening and rapid iteration are key to solving complex problems. • Don't fear imperfection: Many leaders hesitate to publish content or make moves because it "isn't ready." Heather advocates for moving forward despite uncertainty, learning in real-time, and refining as you go. Heather has years of helping clients change how they think and work.  If you are a thought leader, speaker, or author is your work creating sustainable change?  Explore the topic more in this article by Peter Winick.

“When you hire for specific experience, then you're always going to have to hire for somebody within the industry”, says Nicola. “When you break it down to what are the specific jobs to be done, what are the skills that are required to do those jobs, often those skills are industry agnostic. There are clearly some examples where that's not the case, but there are many examples where it is the case, and if we can start to do that, then that opens a whole world of new opportunities to new and different talent. But it takes intentional effort.”On this episode of the Insurance Coffee House Podcast, Nicola talks about her not planning her career journey and saying ‘yes' to exciting opportunities. Having significant industry experience in pharmaceuticals and private banking, including 17 years at ING, Nicola joined Hiscox in September 2022. Headquartered in Bermuda and with 3,500 employees in 14 countries, Nicola explains that she was hired to transform the HR function, to make it scalable, to elevate it, to become a more strategic partner to the business. “We're guardians of the employment proposition, of the culture and therefore the experience that each of those 3,500 colleagues has while working here. It's a real privilege. One of the first things I did when I joined was to change the title from HR to People. People are humans, they shouldn't simply be considered as resources. Language really matters.”Nicola describes the company's growth ambitions in the US under the stewardship of recently appointed CEO, Mary Boyd. She also highlights how her own career experiences have shaped her passion for people and inclusivity, as well as how leadership set the tone. “Ensuring we've got the best talent in position, means being an inclusive company. One which values diversity and ensures people feel psychologically safe to fully contribute. We know this type of environment is when people do their best work and there's real evidence linking it to business performance. But my experience of living and working abroad has taught me that it's really nice to believe these things, but it takes intentional effort to make them a reality for people.”Nicola shares how getting diverse talent is one thing, but setting them up for success is another. She emphasizes the key role data plays in DEI strategies and how it can help identify specific issues in delivering it, as well as why she's a huge believer in transition planning and rapid support around diverse talent. Nicola explains how Hiscox is investing in 6 employee network groups, why she believes they need to be inclusive and engage with allies, and how the business is building up its own diverse junior talent pipelines through apprenticeships and early careers initiatives. Highlighting the need to build diversity into all of Hiscox's processes and tooling, Nicola says, “We need to make it easy for people. The shortlists and the panels, our talent acquisition colleagues just need to make sure those processes are in place and hiring managers don't even need to think about it.”Nicola gives her advice to insurance leaders coming to interview at Hiscox and encourages her insurance industry peers to cast the net wide when looking for the best insurance talent. “Start before you need to so that you're not in that crisis, urgent rush situation and also be very specific about the jobs to be done in the role and matching the skills needed to those jobs.” She concludes by sharing the importance of trust when working with an insurance executive search partner and the one lesson her career has taught her, she wants everyone to learn. “You cannot think your way in to new behaviours. You have to take action. There's a book called ‘Act fast and fix it', but that is such great advice. I would take progress over perfection every day.” Connect with Nicola...
