As leaders, we often have an idea of how we think things should go. Joe Atang joins us today and reminds us to trust ourselves and take action. This teaches us to be better even when we currently aren’t where we want to be. Joe Atang says he is literally your "average joe" who has an incredible passion for people and branding. He is from Houston, Tx (born and raised) but currently living in the Indianapolis IN area. He is the Father of 2 Beautiful Children (Twins: Boy & Girl - Jude + Josslyn) and his partner is Courtney (Whom many of the gang knows). His family is from West Africa - Cameroon to be exact. Thanks to the Houston Rockets winning back to back championships, he fell in love with basketball and was fortunate to accomplish his goal/dream of playing all four years of collegiate basketball. He thought it would be cool to play basketball overseas, but realized it's cooler to join his mom in business. She is a cosmetologist in the beauty industry and started her salon company in 2009. He graduated from university with a bachelor's degree in business/marketing (thanks to his dad), and immediately began working full-time at Innovative Looks Hair Salon. Since 2011 He has been on a mission to figure out how major companies branded/marketed themselves. Thanks to Garyvee, he was able to get a better education than he did in university on how to practically brand. In short, because of his influence, he stumbled across tik tok and has built an audience of over 60k friends. His mission at this point of his career is to leverage his platform to bring awareness to the multiple brands he will be promoting, including innovative looks. His ultimate goal in life outside of just being happy and enjoying life is to become best friends with Garyvee. He reminds us of the importance of high standards and self-development, while teaching us that it isn’t out of our grasp. Skylar Lewis is 34 years old, was born in Los Angeles and grew up in a small town, Hemet California. He strives to make a positive impact with his team members and the people he encounters daily. Skylar lives the “Have It All” lifestyle. He is happily married with 2 boys, 4 and 7. He focuses his time on being balanced in his faith, fitness, family and business. He has built multiple million dollar businesses within the last 12 years. He is currently running a $9,000,000 organization with a culture he is proud of. All this would not have happened without God and also life’s “negative” turns. Skylar struggled in business for multiple years until getting it right. At the age 23, he filed bankruptcy and lost everything, including close relationships. This led to alcohol abuse and excessive partying. At his lowest point, he met the love of his life, Jessica. In his desire to be the best man he could for her, he started his next business by borrowing $1,000… from Jessica. He turned that $1,000 into a multi million dollar sales organization selling debt relief products. After significant success in this business, Skylar decided to dive head first into personal development. He realized that changing and improving his mindsets/ways of thinking was going to be the key to abundant success in all areas of life. Skylar later sold his debt relief company to his manager and started Superior Restoration. He has been running Superior Restoration for the last 10 years. Monica Olsen and Steve Nygren go into detail about the pivotal moment in Steve and Serenbe’s beginning. Steve and his daughter, Garnie, came upon a bulldozer taking out trees while they were running trails on their 300 acres. Steve worried about urban sprawl in their paradise and immediately made calls to land owners in Chattahoochee Hills, asking them to call if they ever decided to sell. The three largest parcels that touched the Nygren farmhouse had to sell for different reasons, and in 5 weeks, Steve had another 600 acres under contract. He’d seen rural land turn to suburban neighborhoods when growing up in Boulder, Colorado, where generations of his family had farmed land. Steve knew he couldn’t keep showing up at real estate closings to keep the same thing from happening to his home, and that there had to be a balance between land preservation and economic return. His close friend Ray C. Anderson connected him with thought leaders and institutions to assemble a charrette on the state of Chattahoochee Hills in 2000. They discussed how global issues could be relevant locally, but realized there was no one in the development world who could come in to figure out how to do what they’d imagined. Environmentalism had not even been a part of the development discussion yet. There was a need for housing after World War II, which spawned the current development model that is not sustainable. He saw examples at Prairie Crossing near Chicago, then quickly realized it was still a magnet for development. There was no countryside outside the community, and no commercial within the community. They had expected everyone around them to develop in the same way, but it didn’t happen that way because people like to put housing next to open fields rather than creating their own open fields. This has created suburban neighborhoods where people have everything inside their homes, which keeps them from each other and from nature, causing all sorts of problems with food systems and health. Steve realized he wasn’t thinking large enough; that he’d have to affect legislation. He then brought 500 Chattahoochee Hill Country landowners together to change the zoning, thus changing how this area would be developed.Questions Asked:What was the pivotal moment that involved a bulldozer? How many acres did you have before you saw the bulldozer? Why did seeing a bulldozer make you think of a housing development and sprawl? How did opening a restaurant in Roswell influence your decision to buy additional land? When you were purchasing Chatt Hills land, did you know what you were going to do with it? Are people’s preconceived notions about how a development works and the traditional constructs of a community development a part of the problem? Why do you think people weren’t developing in an environmentally-friendly way (like Serenbe)? What are some of the global policies developers weren’t thinking about?
Sometimes the groove we’re in is actually a rut. That’s how Steve Nygren describes his feelings when he decided to step off the corporate treadmill and make the move to Chattahoochee Hill Country. Steve also discusses opening a bed & breakfast, now known as The Inn at Serenbe, during the 1996 Olympics.Questions Asked: What did a typical day, week or month look like for you and your family living in the heart of the city in Atlanta, Georgia? Mike Agugliaro talks to Mandie and Ian Hagan about how they’ve built up their business, their experience in the Warrior program, and how their life and business has transformed since joining the program. Questions Asked: What was it like for the last five years before you joined CEO Warrior? How did you find CEO Warrior? How did you feel the first day of the Service Business Edge event? What services did you do before? What do you do now? How about your relationship as a couple? What is the CEO Warrior family like? What would you tell someone who is struggling right now? Key Lessons Learned: Growing Pains When Mandie was a kid, she started off answering phones in the family business so she has pretty much always been involved. Ian joined the business after moving back to New Hampshire to help grow the business and they’ve been at it for the past 15 years. The Hagan’s business grew steadily each year but eventually they got to the point where they began asking themselves if they were doing the right thing. Without a mentor, they felt lost. Leadership skills were one thing Mandie and Ian were missing before joining CEO Warrior. CEO Warrior Mandie first saw Mike a couple of years ago at a seminar he gave, within the 45 minute seminar she knew that she needed to work with Mike. She had to make a tough decision between investing in CEO Warrior and taking a trip to Napa Valley for her birthday, good thing she made the right choice! The first day of the SBE event felt like the first day of school. They learned so much they went back to their hotel room at the end of the day and wondered how they managed to stay in business for so long. That day they knew that CEO Warrior was exactly what they needed. When Mandie and Ian joined the program they were doing roughly a million dollars in sales, two years later they are on track to do six million in sales. They originally did plumbing work before joining CEO Warrior, now they do electrical, septic, remodeling, pipe relining, plumbing, and a number of other kinds of work. They now have the confidence to add whatever lines they need to in order to grow their business. One of the most rewarding things they managed to achieve is the team Mandie and Ian has put together. As a couple, Mandie and Ian are now in alignment with each other and their goals. They’ve learned how to be more present in the moment with their kids and each other. When you are surrounded by like minded, passionate, and engaged people it doesn’t feel like work. The Warrior group has helped them eliminate the learning curve and save tens of thousands of dollars. Freedom is going to work knowing that Mandie and Ian have a whole team that has their back. Before they had no one they could really rely on, now they can walk away and the business will run smoothly without falling apart. Bringing in their CSR’s to the Phone Warrior training showed how much Mandie and Ian believed in their ability to achieve greater results. The main focus for the next couple of years is to keep up the pace of growth while also dialing in the systems and processes that will allow them to scale up even further. If you’re struggling now, you can’t afford to not join CEO Warrior and transform your life and your business.
