In recent days, BizNews was on the ground with both Palestinians and Israelis whose lives have to be balanced on the pretty non-negotiable differences in ideology and religion. These voices include Dr. Sabri Saidam of Fatah's Central Committee (in Ramallah, West Bank); political analyst Haviv Gur (in Jerusalem); Lieutenant-Colonel Eyal Dror, Commander of the Reserve Forces in the Golan Heights (on the border with Syria); Lieutenant-Colonel Sarit Zehavi, Founder of the Alma Research Centre on the war with Hezbollah (on the border with Lebanon); Orit Tzedikovitch, spokesperson of Kibbutz Kfar Azza (on the border with Gaza) one of the hardest hit in the October 7 terror attack; Nova Festival massacre survivor Rita Yedid (at the memorial park for the slain); Ruth Wasserman-Lande, former Knesset member, on Iran's grand strategy (in Tel Aviv); as well Israeli history expert and private travel guide Daniel Cedar on how the war has devastated the tourism industry in the region.

“The reality is that the only way change comes is when you lead by example.” -Anne WojcickiWith over 200 years of proud heritage and rich tradition, the United States Army is one of the largest, most sophisticated organizations in the world today. The 1.1 million person Army Force, comprised of Active Duty, the National Guard and Reserve Forces, is approximately 16% women and 30% racial minorities. Changing anything inside a bureaucracy this large is an undertaking that requires grit, willpower, and an indominable spirit—and that's exactly what one determined woman brought to bear to change the Army for the better. In this episode of the “Leading from Purpose” podcast, Nick Craig, talks with Dr. Andrea Peters—Army Lieutenant Colonel and West Point Assistant Professor whose purpose is “to be the rocky jawed, gap spanning amp” that amplifies the voices of those who can't to provide them a bridge to their future. Listen to hear how she overcame serious illness, bureaucratic machinations, and deeply entrenched government policy to change Army regulation 670-1—Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms and Insignia. Through diligence and determination, Lieutenant Colonel Peters—a second generation soldier—marshalled women leaders from across the Army to bring the military grooming standards more on line with social norms to help women—women of color in particular—express themselves more fully and feel a stronger sense of belonging in today's all volunteer force. If you want to hear how one person's dogged leadership by example overcame 40 years of history, listen in to this engaging episode.

From an early age, Michael Waltz was drawn to history, devouring every history book he could get his hands on at the local library. Raised by a single mother, who worked her way up the corporate ladder from clerk to executive vice president for Prudential Securities, Waltz had plenty of inspiration to draw from. That, coupled with his deep knowledge of history, led him to want to serve his country, where the path his mother took was possible. He ended up graduating from the Virginia Military Institute, and eventually earning his Green Beret after leaving active duty and returning to the Reserve Forces to continue serving. After the Q Course, Waltz served multiple combat tours in Afghanistan, the Middle East, and Africa. He has also served as a White House and Pentagon policy advisor, coupling his on-the-ground combat knowledge with strategic policy formulation and direction. He is now a U.S. Congressman, representing Florida’s 6th congressional district, and advocating for more servant leadership in government and a national service program. Dr. Dudley has an incredibly inspiring conversation with US Senator Tammy Duckworth. Senator Tammy Duckworth gives leadership principles from the perspective of one of the nations first combat pilots and Illinois' Junior Senator who took President Obama Senate Seat. Her persistence to lead after getting a second chance on life after being shot down by a RPG and losing both legs and full function in her right arm is powerful lessons!BIOSenator Tammy Duckworth is an Iraq War Veteran, Purple Heart recipient and former Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs who was among the first handful of Army women to fly combat missions during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Duckworth served in the Reserve Forces for 23 years before retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 2014. She was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2016 after representing Illinois's Eighth Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives for two terms. In 2004, Duckworth was deployed to Iraq as a Blackhawk helicopter pilot for the Illinois Army National Guard. On November 12, 2004, her helicopter was hit by an RPG and she lost her legs and partial use of her right arm. Senator Duckworth spent the next year recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where she quickly became an advocate for her fellow Soldiers. After she recovered, she became Director of the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs, where she helped create a tax credit for employers that hire Veterans, established a first-in-the-nation 24/7 Veterans crisis hotline and developed innovative programs to improve Veterans' access to housing and health care.In the U.S. House, Duckworth served on the Armed Services Committee and was an advocate for working families and job creation, introducing bills like her bipartisan Friendly Airports for Mothers (FAM) Act to ensure new mothers have access to safe, clean and accessible lactation rooms when traveling through airports, which is now law. She helped lead passage of the bipartisan Clay Hunt SAV Act, which enhanced efforts to track and reduce Veteran suicides. She also passed the Troop Talent Act to help returning Veterans find jobs in the private sector and worked to cut waste and fraud at the Pentagon and throughout government, including passing a common-sense provision that was projected to save taxpayers $4 billion by reducing redundancy in military uniforms. In the U.S. Senate, Duckworth advocates for practical, common-sense solutions needed to move our state and country forward like rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure, protecting Illinoisans from lead poisoning, growing manufacturing jobs while supporting minority-owned small businesses, investing in communities that have been ignored for too long and making college more affordable for all Americans. She co-founded the Senate's first-ever Environmental Justice Caucus and also continues her lifelong mission of supporting, protecting and keeping the promises we've made to our Veterans as well as ensuring that we stand fully behind the troops our nation sends into danger overseas. In 2018, after Duckworth became the first Senator to give birth while serving in office, she sent a message to working families across the country about the value of family-friendly policies by securing a historic rules change that allows Senators to bring their infant children onto the Senate floor. This month’s podcast guest Dr. Simon Gallier shares with us his unique journey through life and his ground-breaking approach to applying the principles of the John Lewis Partnership into dental practice ownership. After leaving Manchester Grammar School for Manchester Dental School, Simon became an army cadet and this led him from the Army Dental Corps to becoming part of an elite group within the Parachute Regiment. Not your every-day dental career pathway. Having moved from the military back to Civvie Street (although he continued for 10 years in the Reserve Forces), Simon soon started buying practices including two dental and one aesthetic clinic in Harley Street but it wasn’t long before he was looking at retail high-street dentistry, many years before Boots and others considered this distribution method. He pioneered the use of lasers in UK dentistry and became Clinical Director of a major corporate before returning to his independent search for excellence. Along the way came a fascination with the vision that had taken John Lewis from one store to the company they are today and their philosophy of making all employees “partners” in the growth of the organisation. Today he is CEO of Future Health Partnership, a revolutionary micro-corporate who embrace the employee partnership philosophy. As well as hearing all about Simon’s extraordinary journey, we will hear some of his guiding principles, based on what he learned in the military, in retail and in corporate life - messages for all owners and managers about what makes elites successful - and how to play at the top of your game whilst serving your community. You will learn how to transform a workforce who turn over at 20% per annum into a team who stay with you for 20 years. P.S. a medal of valour for Ashley, who came to this interview the day after Manchester City had clinched their second Premier League title and two reds interviewed a true blue!

"Meadowlark Lemon was one of the finest and most decent people I’ve ever known. Like most of my era, I remember, as a boy, my father taking me to see the “Clown Prince of Basketball” and the Harlem Globetrotters. However, it will be Meadowlark “The Man” that I was fortunate to get to know later in life and whom I will always remember. Meadowlark Lemon was a man of faith who loved people, and believed in giving back. Born in Lexington, South Carolina, Meadowlark and his family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, where he grew up. After playing basketball at Florida A&M and a stint in the US Army, it was on to the Harlem Globetrotters. Meadowlark quickly emerged as the most famous Globetrotter at a time when they could defeat almost any NBA team. We think of Meadowlark for his on-court antics, but he was a great basketball player and an even greater person. Speaking to inner-city youth at a Salvation Army event I was involved in a few years ago, Meadowlark told the kids that, “There’s no excuse in missing a free throw shot. It’s free. They’re giving it to you. Take it!” Meadowlark knew what he was talking about. His lifetime free throw percentage of 97 percent is the best of anyone who has ever played the game. Meadowlark had his own Christian ministry and it touched many. He prayed with President Ronald Reagan in the Oval Office and he witnessed to and prayed with Alabama Governor George Wallace at his bedside."
