Border Vigil in Eagle Pass has been holding monthly vigils to remember the immigrants who have drowned trying to cross the Rio Grande. The group's members have recently been receiving training in recovering human remains at the border.

Today is World Drowning Prevention Day. Given the day that is in it, the Irish Coast Guard, RNLI and Water Safety Ireland have come together to reflect on the lives lost to drowning and to issue a vital safety message. So far in 2025, 42 people have drowned in Irish waters—ten more than this time last year. “I want peace so bad that it hurts.”  Master Sergeant Richard Fiske served in the Marines during World War II as a bugler. He was stationed on the USS West Virginia during the attack on Pearl Harbor, and watched as the Japanese planes dropped the first torpedoes. He also served in the Battle of Iwo Jima. "'By God,' he says, "This is a hell of a way to start a damn war.'He says, ‘Why don't they tell us first?'" After World War II he got his pilot license and joined the Air Force.
