Today Ali and Asif discuss the recent hit Netflix special ‘The Roast of Tom Brady' (2:31). Asif starts off by asking Ali if Tom Brady was a good candidate for a roast. They then chat about the hosting duties of Kevin Hart and some of the controversy related to one of the jokes from ‘Roastmaster General' Jeff Ross.  The guys discuss the various roasters; they go over the athletes who spoke and how some of their jokes were good and how many fell flat.  They praise the many of the comedians involved, especially Nikki Glaser. They discuss her breakout performance and how some of her material was written by former DvsC guest Dan St. Germain. As a fan of comedy roasts, I eagerly tuned in to the Tom Brady Roast, hoping for an evening of sharp wit and hilarious jabs. While the roast delivered some memorable moments thanks to the incomparable Jeff Ross, it was unfortunately overshadowed by the lackluster hosting of Kevin Hart. Jeff Ross, known as the Roastmaster General, brought his A-game to the stage, delivering one blistering insult after another with his trademark razor-sharp humor. His timing was impeccable, and his ability to riff off the other roasters ensured that there was never a dull moment. However, the same cannot be said for Kevin Hart, whose hosting duties fell short of expectations. While Hart has found success in the entertainment industry, his performance as the host of the Tom Brady Roast left much to be desired. His jokes felt forced, his delivery was often grating, and his constant attempts to steal the spotlight grew tiresome quickly. One can't help but wonder how someone like Kevin Hart rose to fame in the comedy world. While humor is subjective, his style seems to rely more on volume and energy than genuine wit or cleverness. In a lineup of seasoned comedians, his presence felt out of place and ultimately detracted from the overall enjoyment of the event. In the modern era of roasting, made popular by the Comedy Central Roasts, comedian Jeffrey Ross has taken on the symbolic title of Roastmaster General and run with it at a blazing speed. Never afraid of going too far (as long as the targets are in on it, of course), Ross has made a living roasting the likes of Hugh Hefner, William Shatner, Pamela Anderson, and Charlie Sheen. Besides the television appearances, however, he's performed extensively for U.S. troops overseas and appeared on many TV shows (CSI, Children's Hospital, The Sarah Silverman Program). Of course, a stand-up comic's real work is hitting the road, and Ross has been doing just that with his Jeff Ross Roasts America tour beginning last year. The tour takes a detour north with Jeff Ross Roasts Canada, courtesy of Just for Laughs. Paul Little got the chance to chat with Jeff last week, and they spoke about his start in comedy, the Comedy Central (and Friar's Club) roasts, what Canadians can expect when they come out to see his show, and a lot more.
