TRUE HOUSE STORIES® W/ MELBA MOORE # 102 Melba Moore began her recording career in 1967, cutting the track "Magic Touch" which was left unreleased until 1986. In later years it became an enormous track on the Northern Soul Scene, eventually leading to Moore performing it live in 2009 at the Baltic Soul Weekender 3 in Germany north of Hamburg. In 1967 she began her performing career as Dionne in the original cast of the musical Hair along with Ronnie Dyson, Paul Jabara and Diane Keaton. In 1975 Melba Moore signed with Buddha Records and released the critically successful R&B album, Peach Melba, which included the minor hit, "I Am His Lady". The following year she scored her first significant hit with the Van McCoy penned “This Is It “, which reached the Billboard Hot 100, the top-20 position on the R&B chart, and top-10 in the UK, becoming her biggest success in that country. In 1976 she scored her third Grammy nomination with the R&B ballad "Lean on Me", which had been recorded originally by Vivian Reed and later by Moore's idol Aretha Franklin who recorded the song as a B-side to her 1971 hit “Spanish Harlem". The song is most notable for Moore's extended long note at the end. In 1983 she re-recorded the song as a tribute to McCoy, who had died four years earlier. Throughout the rest of the 1970s, Moore struggled to match the success of "This Is It" with minor R&B/dance hits. However, her hit 'Pick Me Up, I'll Dance' released in May 1979 produced by McFadden and Whitehead and released on Epic Records did have considerable UK disco success, reaching UK chart position 48, along with a further hit that same year, also produced by McFadden and Whitehead with a cover version of the Bee Gees' hit “You Stepped Ito My Life”, which reached the top 20 on the R&B charts and 47 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 1982 Moore signed with Capitol Records and reached the top 5 on the R&B charts with the dance-pop / funk single "Love's Comin' at Ya”, which also hit the top 20 in the UK (on EMI America EA 146) and became a sizable hit in some European countries for its post-disco sound and followed by "Mind Up Tonight", which was another top 40 hit in the UK reaching position number 22. A string of R&B hits followed, including 1983's "Keepin' My Lover Satisfied" and "Love Me Right", 1984's "Livin' for Your Love", 1985's "Read My Lips"—which later won Moore a third Grammy nomination (for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance), making her just the third black artist after Donna Summer and Michael Jackson to be nominated in the rock category—and 1985's "When You Love Me Like This”. Moore has been married once and has a daughter. Melba Moore was engaged in a four-year relationship with television star Clifton Davis during the early 1970s. Davis later admitted that the relationship failed due to his drug abuse and mistreatment of Moore. In September 1974, Moore married record manager and business promoter Charles Huggins. Moore and Huggins divorced after 17 years of marriage in 1991. In 1999, Huggins filed suit against Moore claiming that she had publicly defamed him by stating that he abused her economically. Brown also had a way of crafting funky tunes for her own with the highly influential “Family Tree,” a massive hit in England's Northern Soul scene.Her true shining moment, however, came unexpectedly in the form of a newspaper ad, looking for a “tall, black, willowy-voiced female” to cut a track in the recording studio. That track became “I Specialize In Love,” a slice of early 80s post-disco that perfectly blended R&B, electronics and the emerging sounds of Hip-Hop.“Specialize” traveled far and wide throughout the European continent before it found its way back to the States, where it became a sizable hit in the dance charts and clubs. Not currently available for sale.This forgotten classic is one of the last gasps of great Soul music, before it was swallowed up by Funk, Disco, and the bland style I refer to as "Modern Soul." Interestingly, although it falls way down the list of Ronnie Dyson's big hits on the Billboard Hot 100, it was his biggest hit on the Black/RnB chart. It also surprises me that the track isn't more sought after by fans of Northern Soul, since it would undoubtedly be drop-dead brilliant on the dance floor! The uptempo B side is also well worth seeking out. Note: This beautiful copy has light storage wear that lowers the Label grade to Near Mint. The wax and audio are pristine.

This single had two great sides, and Cotillion released promos for both. This was the first promo (and the better of the two sides, IMHO), and shortly thereafter a promo for "Heart To Heart" was released. Have a listen to the mp3 "snippet" of this delightful Philly Soul-style dancer. As on the stock release, this promo 45 record has a specially edited version of a 4:10 album track. Note: This beautiful 45 has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio).

  Butch is well-known for his accomplishments on the basketball court but he has been much morre successful in the music arena with Gold, Platinum and Diamond recording with Biggie Smalls ‘Life after death’ album.  After initially getting into the music business to help his four brothers with their career as the family band, "Ingram", Butch found he could make a living by producing many well-known acts like Ronnie Dyson, Barbarba Mason, Blue Magic, Roz Ryan, Major Harris and Odyssey, to name just a few. Sharon Brown - I Specialize In Love (PetkoTurner Edit) Sharon Brown is an American singer-songwriter and musician who was born in Harlem, New York, US. She is the niece of songwriter Phil Medley, who co-wrote the song "Twist and Shout". She is also the daughter of drummer William Brown, who played with musicians such as The Isley Brothers and Cannonball Adderley. Brown co-wrote and sang backup vocals on the 1976 release of CBS Rock Band "Blood Sweat & Tears" Mirror's Image " LP song titled "Love Looks Good On You" former lead vocalist for "Rare Earth" Jerry La Croix. In addition to starting her own music publishing company, Tshaym music publishing company BMI, she has also worked with acts such as Ronnie Dyson from the Broadway hit play Hair singing "Aquarius". Sharon Brown also acted as musical coordinator and songwriter worked alongside Todd Rundgren.

Terry Burrus studied with Sticks Evans his musical mentor teacher in Junior High School and it was there where Terry put together his Junior High School band as a guitarist which he got quite proficient on and also as a keyboardist. The band would play locally in New York including the prestigious Lincoln Center Performing Arts Center, performing jazz,soul,r&b and Broadway classics. He attended the La Guardia School of Music And Art in New York City diving further into jazz and formal studies and absorbing the concepts of arrangement and counterpoint, he excelled so fast as a musician that by the time he was sixteen he was touing with Jean Carne, Lenny White, Michael Urbaniak, Tom Browne, Melba Moore and others...
