The deplaning playlist, the matter of subtraction, and forgoing the visual aspect of the television show “Succession.” Aaron Frazer (Durand Jones & The Indications, Aaron Frazer, Okonski) Aaron Frazer - Full Performance (LIVE on 88.5FM The SoCal Sound)- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uj6xrZpMsaA&t=1201s "“Into The Blue is the clearest portrait of who I am as an artist. It's me through and through,” says multi-instrumentalist Aaron Frazer. Following his acclaimed 2021 debut, Into the Blue is expansive- a daring blend of soul, psychedelia, spaghetti western, disco, gospel and hip-hop, representing the impressive range of Frazer's sonic talents. Frazer maintains the unmistakable falsetto and classic songwriting he's known for, but plants Into the Blue firmly in the now with a hip-hop mentality at its core, weaving together genres and production techniques to form something new. The opener, “Thinking of You,” is harmony-laden soul drawing inspiration from legendary Harlem trio Black Ivory over a bed of strings. “Lonely nights like this, still I feel your kiss,” Frazer coos nostalgically in his high register. Later, on “Time Will Tell,” he plaintively considers the end of a relationship, “trying to figure out // how love went from sweet to sour.” Into The Blue was conceived, like so many classic records, out of heartbreak. Following the end of a long relationship, Frazer moved cross-country from Brooklyn to Los Angeles and embarked on a journey that's reflected in the album's themes of grief, loneliness, and searching for healing. “Into The Blue really means heading into the unknown. That has been the last year of my life and I'm still in the blue,” Frazer explains. “But there are also songs here that celebrate love and the giddiness of a new relationship and all that. That's part of a breakup to me, processing the whole thing, remembering the things that were right as much as the things that were wrong.” The title track, “Into The Blue”, is a haunting, resolute anthem, combining cinematic strings and tough-as-nails breakbeats as Frazer heads west. “Here I go, to a place where the broken heart knows,” he sings. “It's all I can do. Back into the blue.” Frazer wrote on every track and played several live instruments on the album. “Payback” is an explosive dancefloor heater, featuring shimmering tambourines and driving" Excerpt from https://aaronfrazermusic.com Aaron Frazer: Bandcamp: https://aaronfrazermusic.bandcamp.com/album/introducing Instagram: @aaron_frazer Website: https://aaronfrazermusic.com Records: https://www.coleminerecords.com/collections/aaron-frazer Merch: https://shop.aaronfrazermusic.com Durand Jones & The Indications Bandcamp: https://durandjonesandtheindications.bandcamp.com/merch Instagram: @durandjonesandtheindications Website: https://durandjonesandtheindications.com Records: https://www.secretlystore.com/private-space-durand-jones-and-the-indications Merch: https://store.durandjonesandtheindications.com The Vineyard: Instagram: @thevineyardpodcast Website: https://www.thevineyardpodcast.com Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSn17dSz8kST_j_EH00O4MQ/videos

Tribute to NYC based 'underground disco' super-producer Patrick Adams. His bio is impressive…and spans from playing, songwriting, producing, arranging, engineering… to managing and running labels. Adams got his start in music… up in Harlem. In the E70s after his success with managing and producing the band Black Ivory, he landed a job at Today records. By the time he left Perception in ‘74 he was one of the mainstays of the New York recording scene. In the M70s…he made quick transition into disco and boogie. B/W ‘77 and ‘82 he made more than 20 projects for Prelude records and other labels. During that time, Patrick Adams really shined in the releases he made for now legendary and highly collectable P&P label which was owned by NYC based record promoter Peter Brown. At P&P, Adams started creating a proto-house music that he called “underground disco”....he had int'l success with the bands Cloud One and Universal Robot Band….which are highly collectable. After the end of the disco era, Adams continued producing boogie-funk acts and started working behind-the-scenes with the rising stars of New York's hip-hop scene. It is all vinyl dance-floor filler show… so turn the volume up and enjoy it... Cheers... George

“Un caffè per favore!”. Quante volte al giorno pronunciamo o ascoltiamo questa frase? Decine! Ma sapete cosa vi si nasconde dietro? Non vi preoccupate… State per scoprirlo!

All they know is that it stinks and they feel sick. The factory, New Sky Metal, is part of a thriving e-waste industry across Southeast Asia, born of China's decision to stop accepting the world's electronic refuse, which was poisoning its land and people. Thailand in particular has become a center of the industry even as activists push back and its government wrestles to balance competing interests of public safety with the profits to be made from the lucrative trade. Last year, Thailand banned the import of foreign e-waste. Yet new factories are opening across the country, and tons of e-waste are being processed, environmental monitors and industry experts said. “E-waste has to go somewhere,” said Jim Puckett, executive director of the Basel Action Network, which campaigns against trash dumping in poor countries, “and the Chinese are simply moving their entire operations to Southeast Asia.” “The only way to make money is to get huge volume with cheap, illegal labor and pollute the hell out of the environment,” he added. Each year, 50 million tons of e-waste are produced globally, according to the United Nations, as consumers grow accustomed to throwing away last year's model and acquiring the next new thing. The notion of recycling these gadgets sounds virtuous: an infinite loop of technological utility. But it is dirty and dangerous work to extract the tiny quantities of precious metals — like gold, silver and copper — from castoff phones, computers and televisions. For years, China took in much of the world's electronic refuse. Then in 2018, Beijing closed its borders to foreign e-waste. Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia — with their lax enforcement of environmental laws, easily exploited labor force and cozy nexus between business and government — saw an opportunity. “Every circuit and every cable is very lucrative, especially if there is no concern for the environment or for workers,” said Penchom Saetang, head of Ecological Alert and Recovery Thailand, an environmental watchdog. Larry Ernest Blackmon (born May 24, 1956) is an American vocalist and musician who gained acclaim as the lead singer and founder frontman of the funk and R&B band Cameo. Starting the band "East Coast", Blackmon formed the "New York City Players" as a compliment to the Ohio Players. Having to rename the group because of a conflict, Blackmon later called the group Cameo. Blackmon lived in Harlem and played drums on several hits for the band Black Ivory. He is the son of Lee Black, a former boxer.Along with his unique vocal style, Blackmon's other personal touches included sporting an elaborate hi-top fade haircut and a codpiece over his pants. His signature "Ow!" was used as the intro for some of the band's songs.Blackmon appeared as a backing vocalist on Ry Cooder's 1987 album "Get Rhythm" and Cyndi Lauper's 1989 album A Night to Remember. He also had co-producer credits on Eddie Murphy's 1989 album So Happy. The snare drum sound that Blackmon created for "Word Up!" and "Candy" was duplicated on releases by a wide range of artists.[1] The group Cameo appeared at Adventureland Palace sponsored by Black Pride Inc., on April 26, 1978.Atlanta-based funk quartet CA$HFLOW, which had a hit with "Mine all Mine" in 1986, was founded by Blackmon. One of his sons is heavily involved in the New York political scene,[2] while another son is currently involved in the hip hop music industry.[citation needed] See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

I am an Egyptian-born Sudanese artist. My childhood was composed of two environments: the Cairene street and the Sudanese home. The relationship, and sometimes tension, between the two, strongly influenced my view of both cultures. The need to express this dual perspective led me to make art initially and has informed my work since. My work discusses the relationship between the included and the excluded, and open dialogue on issues of identity and politics. By working with forgotten historical events and current state policies. I raise questions of power dynamics between the individual and authority on a social and political level. My recent work is based on research and documentation of ignored historical events, especially colonial history and rereading it from the perspective of the native. On today's episode I talk to songwriter, arranger and record producer Patrick Adams. Originally from Harlem, Patrick has applied his magic touch to more than four decades of music, earning thousands of credits for contributions to disco, boogie, soul and hip-hop releases both genre-defining and criminally underrated. In addition to mentoring Leroy Burgess and his seminal soul group Black Ivory, Patrick was a key contributor to innumerable disco LPs and hits like Musique's “In The Bush,” and Inner Life's “I'm Caught Up (In A One Night Love Affair).” Nicknamed the “Prince of Soft Soul”, Patrick has earned 32 gold and platinum records and worked with or wrote for countless R&B, disco and hip hop groups including Eric B. & Rakim, R. Kelly, Sister Sledge, Keith Sweat, Salt-N-Pepa, Teddy Riley, Herbie Mann, Gladys Knight, Rick James, and many, many more. March 17th marked the date of our second broadcast and since we are not the green beer drinking type, the crew and I decided to celebrate by inviting one of the most prolific record producer, songwriter, musical arranger and musicians to the show, MR. PATRICK ADAMS! Much to our delight he accepted! AND MARCH 17TH IS HIS BIRTHDAY!!!! If you don't know who Patrick is, you will be amazed at the amount of beautiful music this man has given to the world! He has 32 gold and platinum records and has over 1300 songs under his belt he has either written or been involved with producing. I have embedded a few songs Patrick was involved with here that we didn't have time to include in the interview. Among the artists Patrick has worked with and projects he has been involved with are Sister Sledge, Loleatta Holloway, Main Ingredient, Shannon, Cares, Thomas &Taylor,Ace Spectrum, Inner Life, Leroy Burgess, The Spinners, Gladys Knight, Skipworth & Turner, Candi Staton, Eddie Kendricks, Herbie Mann, Debbie Taylor, Bumblebee Unlimited, Universal Robot Band, Narada Michael Walden, Rick James, Chatelaine, C# Sharp, Center Stage, Cloud One,Inner Life, Mark IV, Musique, Patrick Adams Initiative, Phreek, Rainbow Brown, Sandy's Gang, The P.A. He is responsible for one of my favorite records of all time, the Paradise Garage version of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" by Inner Life and engineered the epic album "Paid in Full" from Eric B. and Rakim. I was so nervous but the interview went off without a hitch, despite both OP! and I having bronchitis, we only managed to cough up a lung off mic. We all learned a lot although I wished we had double the time to chat - what a fountain of information he was! I really hope that the young cats coming up can access some of the wealth of knowledge this man has. Patricks more recent tribute to Thom Bell above. Beautiful tune! Patrick Adams was an amazing guest and is a fascinating person and true artist. We hope you enjoy the interview. He is truly a treasure and we wish him many more of the happiest birthdays to come! The Sweet Spot crew had an incredible evening with the great Patrick Adams! Sirena Soul, OP! Baby K, Patrick Adams and Kyle McNeill.

LAINI MATAKAWanda Robinson better known as Laini Mataka was born and raised in Baltimore, Md., one of 10 children, and was raised by her Grandmother. She's been writing poetry since the age of thirteen. Her first paid writing gig was composing letters, at a quarter apiece, for girls whose boyfriends were being sent to Vietnam. She wrote about, she says, "things I knew nothing about": "it was all about love- 'oh, he broke my heart!'"As the war progressed and she entered college, her work became more political. After hearing R&B singer Arthur Prysock's poetry-based 1969 album, "This Is My Beloved," she decided to set some of her poems to music. She read poems into a tape recorder with a stereo playing in the background, then she played the finished product for her classmates at the Community College of Baltimore. A local DJ, Anthony Davis played some of her work on his show. Soon after, she got a call from Perception Records which invited the 20 year old if she would like to come to NYC to cut a record. When Laini (named for a settlement in Kenya's central Province) was picking music for her album, the label opened it's library up to her. "They said to use any music I wanted - they owned the rights to everything," she remembers. She selected a great deal of material from Black Ivory, a soul trio from Harlem- and then walked into what she describes as a sort of disorganized, never-ending party. She remembers label folks keeping artists working however they could. "Whatever you wanted, they would get it for you," Mataka says. Laini wanted nothing was what she told them! After recording her album "Black Ivory" in 1971, performing doggedly to promote the record - at a beauty pagent, on an episode of Soul Train she never saw - Laini fled, feeling overworked and underpaid. "I hid," she says. "I said i'd never give my work to white people again to exploit me, and I didn't."She went home to Baltimore, where she put in time at the CSX railroad, in libraries and in a warehouse. She didn't want to deal with labels, agents or producers anymore, but, encouraged by friends, met with a guy who'd worked with Maya Angelou. They took a cab ride, he disrespected her, she got out and didn't take any more meetings. In the meantime, Laini says, "Me And A Friend," was cobbled together from tracks she recorded for Black Ivory. Although she's never listened to the whole recording, she did once read the lyric sheet. "They didn't know what I was saying," she says. "They misspelled a lot of words."Still the disc has done a lot to maintain her profile among crate-diggers. DJ Shadow, the British electronica duo Pressure Drop and New York house producer Floppy Sounds have all sampled Laini's work. And those are just the "Credited uses." No doubt since Perception records went bankrupt and the catalog was purchased, she probably could regain some of the ownership of her work.In the mid - 70s, Mataka met Paul Coates, owner of Baltimore's Black Classic Press. Once he began the process of starting a publishing house, he told her that is she waited for him that his company would publish everything she wrote. Coates made good on that promise. In 1988 "Never As Strangers, In 1994 "Restoring The Queen." And, in 2000 Bein A Strong Black Woman Could Get You Killed," were all published by Black Classic Press.Laini Mataka is the real deal. Even 30 years ago her voice was uniquely original and still is even today! She would even like to sing. "I want to mix it up," she says, "start a song, then stop in the middle, like a jazz musician (her favorite music) run a poem, then pick up on the other side."But for now, she's continuing to work with young writers, constantly composing poems and trying to finish up a novel about a childhood boyfriend who was killed. That last project, she admits, is giving her some trouble. "It needs a happy ending," she says, "and I don't know anyone who's having one right now."To purchase the work of Laini Mataka CLICK HERETo catch Laini Mataka on Facebook CLICK HEREListen to Spotlight On jazz and Poetry's "Spotlight Conversations with Laini Mataka" hosted by Clayton "Bigtrigger" Corley, Sr.
